- Abstract
This book explores the question “Why is the US Navy in the South China Sea at all?” It traces the history of diplomatic, economic, and military tensions among the People's Republic of China, the Soviet Union, the United States, and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, outlining the origins of the United States-Vietnam relationship during the immediate post-World War II period, the turmoil of the Vietnam War during which China supported North Vietnam against a US-backed South Vietnam, and the decision of the US government to open relations with China beginning in 1972. It shows how from 1945–1975, the US government used its relations with Vietnam to exert diplomatic, economic, and military pressure on China to open negotiations leading to full recognition and further discusses the surprising action of the US Navy in 1974 to allow the Chinese Navy to take the Paracel Islands by force, thereby denying control over these islands to a united Vietnam, closely allied with the Soviet Union, which was the common enemy of both China and the USA. Overall, the book demonstrates how the presence of the US Navy in the South China Sea is a crucial element in much wider, global US strategy.

- Abstract
This work is a comprehensive monograph of Cremanthodium Benth. (Asteraceae, Senecioneae), a typical high-alpine genus endemic to the Sino-Himalayan region. Two species and one variety are described as new, seven names are treated as synonyms, one new combination is proposed, the independent specific status of four species is reinstated, lectotypes of 39 names are designated, and infrageneric placement of 14 species at sectional or series levels are adjusted. In addition, the geographical distribution of most species and varieties is clarified. In total, 80 species and nine varieties are recognized in the genus. The taxonomic treatment of each entry comprises a full synonymy with bibliographic citations, details of nomenclatural types or necessary new typifications, a full description, information on phenology, habitats, altitudinal ranges, geographical distribution, etymology, chromosome number, conservation status, detailed taxonomic notes, a full citation of herbarium specimens examined, and a distribution map. Type specimens and color photographs of herbarium specimens and living plants are, when available, also given for most species and varieties. Historically, plants of Cremanthodium received relatively little attention. Although incomparable in reputation with those most well-known high-alpine genera, such as Gentiana, Meconopsis, Primula, and Rhododendron, Cremanthodium gains, however, more and more attention from botanists and alpine plant enthusiasts due to the loveliness and magnificence of plants of the genus, especially from those who are in deep love with plants in the Himalayan region. The publication of this book represents another important contribution by Chinese botanists to the field of plant taxonomy. The book should be of important value of reference for experts and scholars at research institutes, teachers and students from related fields in colleges, professionals, and amateurs in botany and horticulture, and those engaged in plant resource utilization and nature conservation.

- Abstract
Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are extensively used in consumer products, despite their high persistence and other hazards. The risks posed by this chemical class to human health and the environment, which are increasingly becoming understood, have triggered regulation and policy changes. However, safer alternatives to these technically effective materials and methods to discover and use those alternatives are still under development. Remediation of PFAS contaminated sites will not solve the growing worldwide pollution, but substitution with safer substances at the formulation and manufacturing phases will at least abate the flow of PFASs into our bodies and environment. Introducing safer alternatives to some of the PFASs of concern used in select industry sectors, this book informs the reader about the processes of chemical hazard and alternatives assessment that can foster innovation. It is a valuable resource for both green chemists and industrial chemists interested in how they can make their products safer without compromising on function.

- Abstract

- Abstract
This book explores the importance of cancer stem cells and their usage. Cancer is a serious health issue that affects people all over the world. Numerous studies back up the theory that stem cells play a role in cancer development. The population of cancer stem cells (CSCs) exhibits tumorigenic potential and possesses stem cell-specific markers and characteristics, such as self-renewal/proliferation and differentiation. Carcinogenesis may be significantly influenced by CSCs. Currently, treatment techniques concentrate on eliminating the CSC subpopulation using various methods, such as bypassing CSC resistance mechanisms or focussing on important biochemical pathways that govern these cells. New approaches are still required even though the negative effects of current treatment approaches are minimal. The information that has been gathered on the stem cell theory of carcinogenesis, the impact of dysregulated stem cell self-renewal on cancer transformation, and the functions of CSCs in cancer treatment are presented in this book. We also discuss how a deeper comprehension of the biology, behaviour, and environment of CSCs can advance the use of these cells in cancer therapy and lead to the development of more potent cancer treatment plans. Given its scope, Cancer Stem Cells and Cancer Therapy is an indispensable resource not only for researchers working in the field of human biology and cancer research but also for advanced students seeking an introduction to cancer stem cells and their therapeutic usage.

- Abstract
This book provides a detailed introduction to the characteristics of cerebral aneurysms and the current treatment methods. Cerebral aneurysms are not rare, and they have a high disability and mortality rate. Most patients are unaware that they have a cerebral aneurysm, with the most common being cerebral hemorrhage. The diagnosis and treatment of cerebral aneurysms have been ongoing for more than 100 years. We have achieved excellent results, but there are still many things that we do not know. An increasing number of unruptured cerebral aneurysms are accidentally discovered during neuroimaging examinations. The greatest risk of cerebral aneurysm is the risk of rupture. Due to the extremely high mortality rate, once these aneurysms are detected, systematic treatment is necessary. The earlier a patient is referred to a neurosurgeon or interventional neuroradiologist, the better the outcome will be compared to the patient experiencing rupture. The decision to treat is multifactorial.
