- Abstract
This book offers fresh perspectives on childhood, adolescence, human diversity, and learning. With novel theoretical backing of Indian research studies that confirm, bolster, extend, or challenge established theories, it explores connections between prevailing ideas in educational psychology and the issues relevant to young learners of today.Authored by leading scholars and practitioners of Indian education, the volume covers a wide range of topics, including early childhood care and education, sociocultural, philosophical, and psychological perspectives on childhood and adolescence, contemporary lifestyle changes, and concerns about diversity. These concerns range from multilingualism and gender to intelligence and the development of self and identity. Structured in terms of historical progression, each chapter offers a theoretical context, emphasizing contemporary perspectives within the specific area of focus. Additionally, independent research studies are integrated into the chapters to provide a comprehensive framework of the addressed issues rather than existing as standalone research papers.A valuable resource relevant to multiple disciplines, this book caters to educators, researchers, and teacher trainers, as well as students of Education, Psychology, Counselling, Development Studies, Social Work, and Sociology. It's also a useful tool for parents, policymakers, and governmental and non-governmental organizations involved in education.

- Abstract
The Pandemic, the wars, the crisis of political institutions, and the expansion of the intensive use of social networks have impacted the elaboration of phantoms and fantasies that emerge from the modifications of the politics of the bodies and politics of emotions: today—what more than never?—the sensibilities are changing on a global scale. Emotions and politics of sensibilities registered in the current process of colonization of the inner planet imply the urgency of relieving the forms that its impacts acquire in the daily life of a global scale that becomes trans-globalization. Trans-globalization is characterized by the modification of three basic features of the structuring processes on a planetary scale: (a) the unnoticed acceptance of the global extension of the banalization of the good, the politics of perversion, and the logic of waste; (b) the return of the question/tension/paradox of sovereignty as a physical device for international mediation of virtual transnational commodification; and (c) the acceleration of the so-called energy transition.

- Abstract
Early Christian prose writers of the Latin West (2nd–5th c. AD) have long been studied predominantly from theological and historical perspectives. Hence, there is a conspicuous scarcity of comprehensive studies approaching these texts from stylistic and literary angles. This volume will be an important step towards filling this substantial gap in recent scholarship. It will include chapters on selected Latin Christian writers such as Tertullian, Arnobius, Lactantius, Firmicus Maternus, Ambrose, Jerome, and Augustine. It aims at investigating, on the one hand, ways in which these texts can be appreciated as literary texts in their own right, by exploring the style and imagery employed in them; and, on the other, the intricate and meaningful modes in which these writers interact, develop, and transform phraseology, topoi, concepts, and techniques found in Classical literature. This volume will offer a paradigmatic overview as to the usefulness of approaching early Christian writers through a literary lens, thus opening up new paths of research across various disciplines including Classics, Literary Studies, Theology, and (Social) History.

- Abstract
This book analyses late antique historiography and epideictic texts, focusing on how divine knowledge of imperial futures safeguarded the legitimacy of Roman emperors. It begins with Constantine and his tetrarchic colleagues (A), before moving to Constantius II and Julian (B), then Valens (C), and ending with Theodosius and Honorius (D).The impact of future knowledge in these texts could be felt both in the present circumstances of their composition and in perpetuity, as visions of the future reflect either the confidence or boastful arrogance of history's protagonists, their divine inspiration or doom, and ultimately, their place in imperial memory.

This work explores the procedures, norms, doctrines, and implications of episcopal elections in Christian churches. The evolution of episcopal elections reveals the political and social tensions and dynamics that influence the selection of bishops. The text analyses how such elections reflect the complexity of ecclesiastical structure from its origins in the New Testament to the present day. Election procedures never followed a fixed pattern, but were influenced by pre-existing traditions and contingent needs. The history of episcopal elections highlights the need for authority and consensus in the Christian community, exploring specific instances and historical developments that have shaped the current practice.

- Abstract
This book provides a state-of-the-art review of the current models and typologies of olive landscapes and related farming systems in the Mediterranean. It also explores potential prospects for monitoring and enhancing their sustainability standards. Olive groves are an essential component of the historical landscape that largely drive the cultural, ecological and socio-economic character of the region. Agronomic intensification and mechanization, market globalization and delocalization, and financialization are affecting these ancient farming systems in certain olive landscapes, whereas others are threatened by abandonment and financial loss. This complex set of processes is resulting in a heterogeneous mosaic of olive landscapes when examined across nested spatial-temporal scales and institutional levels. In alignment with such complexity, multiple challenges are arising linked to sustainability standards and targets. Sustainability has actually been the subject of much public discussion and yet of not nearly enough scientific evidence-gathering that is both robust and comparable across geographic contexts and scales. This is where this book is expected to provide a meaningful contribution. Ultimately, the main objective of this book is to establish a base-line sustainability picture of the complex mosaic of olive landscapes across the Mediterranean region. The book is structured along a series of national /regional and thematic reviews and syntheses, which lead to joined-up reflections on current and future challenges, opportunities and trajectories for enhancing the sustainability of olive landscapes across the Mediterranean. The book will be of interest to academics and researchers, policy-makers, the farming community, and market agents alike. We expect that they will find in this book an overall picture of the sector´s current situation and plausible pathways for achieving enhanced sustainability standards, whilst also permitting the reader to gain depth on the contingent characteristics of the different drivers, components and typologies of these dynamic and valuable landscapes.

- Abstract
This book presents a methodology for assessing the advantages of microgrids from both a business and energy resilience perspective. Microgrids incorporate distributed generators and electrochemical energy storage systems within end-user facilities that have critical loads. By utilizing renewable energy sources and electrochemical energy storage, the life-cycle cost of energy within microgrids connected to the electrical grid can be significantly reduced. Moreover, the book explores how the design of microgrids can enhance the resilience of power supply to customers, as measured by the duration for which the microgrid can sustain an electrical consumer during an outage. This aspect is particularly crucial for buildings with critical loads. The book contains case studies from around the world that demonstrate these lessons. The book is of interest to researchers and graduate students in power and energy as well as professionals in the power industry.

- Abstract
Authored by over 500 internationally acclaimed expert editors and chapter authors from around the world. Completely updated and expanded with almost 40 new chapters. Significantly increased attention to the role of culture in all aspects of evaluation and care. New sections on Digital Mental Health Services and Technologies, Treatment Issues in Specific Populations and Settings, and on Prevention, Systems of Care, and Psychosocial Aspects of Treatment address key advances. This edition is the first comprehensive reference work to cover the entire field of psychiatry in an updateable format, ensuring access to state of the art information. Earlier editions were called “the best current textbook of psychiatry” by the New England Journal of Medicine, and “the gold standard” by the American Journal of Psychiatry. Tasman's Psychiatry, 5th Edition, builds on the initial vision in prior editions of approaching psychiatric evaluation and care from an integrative bio-psycho-social-cultural perspective. It is designed to be an essential and accessible reference for readers at any level of experience. This editorial approach encompasses the importance of the first encounter between patient and clinician, followed by the complex task of beginning to develop a therapeutic relationship and to develop and implement a treatment plan in collaboration with the patient. The importance of increasing attention to the role of culture and social determinants of mental health is reflected both in specific chapters and in components of many chapters throughout the book, especially in those pertaining to clinical evaluation, the therapeutic alliance, and treatment. The global scope of this edition is reflected throughout the book, including the section on psychiatric disorders where evaluation using both ICD 11 and DSM 5-TR is discussed. Most chapters are authored by experts from at least two different countries or continents, adding a critically important dimension which often is missing in major psychiatric textbooks. Tasman's Psychiatry, 5th Edition, is an essential reference for all medical professionals and students who need a trusted reference or learning tool for psychiatry, psychology, clinical research, social work, counseling, therapy, and all others.

- Abstract
Constantine the Great died on May 22nd in 337 AD, leaving behind three sons--Constantine II, Constantius II, and Constans--to face the challenge of how to rule the Roman Empire. Division of Empire follows the lives of these brothers, beginning with the death of their father, and traces how they first shared the empire as a triarchy, until one by one the heirs of Constantine fell to the sword. Constantine II was killed by his brother Constans in the civil war of 340, and Constans was murdered by a usurper in 350. Constantius was the last man standing of Constantine's sons, and he reunified the empire under the rule of a sole Augustus, like his father. However, the cracks were already starting to show, and his efforts at reunification would soon prove to be a failure. It is well known that the Roman Empire came to be divided into eastern and western halves in 395, but what is less known is that this was the culmination of a series of smaller fractures, divisions, and then attempts at reunifications that stretched across the fourth century. Division was a process, rather than a singular event, and it is a process that has, until now, received little scholarly attention. William Lewis uses this story of family massacres, civil wars, assassinations, usurpations, and desperate armed struggles for power as a case study for division and an original reappraisal of politics in the mid-fourth century.

- Abstract
Few studies have explored the lives of imprisoned transgender women and none consider non-binary prisoners. Transgender and Non-Binary Prisoners'Experiences in England and Wales fills this gap by delving deep into their ordeals. Drawing on a three-year project of correspondence with nineteen trans women and four non-binary persons incarcerated in men's prisons as well as a critical analysis of the Prison Service policies and practices, Olga Suhomlinova and Saoirse Caitlin O'Shea bring to light the realities of these lives, in the prisoners'own words. Rich in inimitable detail, Transgender and Non-Binary Prisoners'Experiences in England and Wales documents the struggles against harassment and abuse, the challenges of access to transgender healthcare and feminine items, and the complexities of relationships with other prisoners and staff, revealing the strength of character required to maintain individual identity in a totalising institution. The participants'introductions and “Life in the Day” essays also offer a close-up of what it takes to be a trans prisoner. Steeped in unique empirical evidence, Transgender and Non-Binary Prisoners'Experiences in England and Wales acts as a timely intervention, voicing the concerns of these marginalised groups and suggesting ways to improve their conditions of confinement. The book is of interest to students and scholars in penology/criminology, sociology, and gender/transgender studies, prison policy makers and practitioners, and human rights activists.

Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery Techniques: Controversies and Evidence provides a roadmap for clinicians in addressing difficult decision-making by succinctly summarizing the evidence for surgical treatments in pediatric drug-resistant epilepsy. With the field of pediatric epilepsy surgery having expanded significantly over the last 10 years, combined with high variability in practice and several emerging technologies with expanding evidence, this volume addresses several dichotomies in decision-making, both in terms of surgical modalities as well as surgical techniques. Chapters compare DBS, VNS/RNS, resection and other modalities, as well as surgical methods, including vertical vs. lateral hemispherectomy, robotic-guided surgery, and laser vs. resection. With recent approval and application of several medical advances in epilepsy surgery over the last five years, this book provides readers the scientific literature and daily practice content they need for an evidence-based approach for surgical care. - Discusses state-of-the-art technology in the surgical treatment of pediatric drug-resistant epilepsy - Provides an up-to-date overview of current controversies, competing approaches, and their relative evidence, indications, advantages, and disadvantages for pediatric epilepsy surgery - Outlines evidence-based recommendations to guide decision-making in pediatric epilepsy surgery

- Abstract
Music therapy is an established profession that is recognized around the world. As a catalyst to promote health and wellbeing music therapy is both objective and explorative. The Oxford Handbook of Queer and Trans Music Therapy (QTMT) is a celebration of queer, trans, bisexual and gender nonconforming identities and the spontaneous creativity that is at the heart of queer music-making. As an emerging approach in the 21st century QTMT challenges perspectives and narratives from ethnocentric and cisheteronormative traditions, that have dominated the field. Raising the essential question of what it means to create queer and trans spaces in music therapy, this book presents an open discourse on the need for change and new beginnings. The therapists, musicians and artists included in this book collectively embody and represent a range of theory, research and practice that are central to the essence and core values of QTMT. This book does not shy away from the sociopolitical issues that challenge music therapy as a dominantly white, heteronormative, and cisgendered profession. Music as a therapeutic force has the potential to transform us in unique and extraordinary ways. In this book music and words are presented as innovative equals in describing and evaluating QTMT as a newly defined approach.

31. Zeremoniell und Herrschaft in der Spätantike : Die Rituale des Kaiserhofs in Konstantinopel

- Abstract

- Abstract
This volume considers “lived space” as a scholarly approach to the past, showing how spatial approaches can present innovative views of the world of Late Antiquity, integrating social, economic and cultural developments and putting centre stage this fundamental dimension of social life.Bringing together an international group of scholars working on areas as diverse as Britain, the Iberian Peninsula, Jordan and the Horn of Africa, this book includes burgeoning fields of study such as lived spaces in the context of ships and seafaring during this period. Chapters investigate the history, function and use of different spaces in their own right and identify the social and historical logic presiding over continuity and/or change. They also explore the fluidity of lived space in both its physical and conceptual dimensions, analysing issues like agency and intentionality as well as meaning and social relations. Space is the fundamental dimension of social life, the arena where it unfolds and the stage where social values and hierarchies are represented; analysis of space allows us to understand history through different means of shaping, occupying and controlling space. Considering Late Antiquity through a spatial perspective offers a complex and stimulating picture of this pivotal period, and this volume provides avenues for the development of further research and discussion in this area.Lived Spaces in Late Antiquity is a fascinating resource for students and scholars interested in space and spatiality in the late antique world, as well as archaeology, classical studies and late antique studies more generally.

- Abstract

- Abstract
Carolingian Medical Knowledge and Practice explores the practicality and applicability of the medical recipes recorded in early medieval manuscripts. It takes an original, dual approach to these overlooked and understudied texts by not only analysing their practical usability, but by also re-evaluating these writings in the light of osteological evidence. Could those individuals with access to the manuscripts have used them in the context of therapy? And would they have wanted to do so? In asking these questions, this book unpacks longstanding assumptions about the intended purposes of medical texts, offering a new perspective on the relationship between medical knowledge and practice.
