This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 6th Workshop on Uncertainty for Safe Utilization of Machine Learning in Medical Imaging, UNSURE 2024, held in conjunction with MICCAI 2024, Marrakesh, Morocco, on October 10, 2024. The 20 full papers presented in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 28 submissions. They are organized in the following topical sections: annotation uncertainty; clinical implementation of uncertainty modelling and risk management in clinical pipelines; out of distribution and domain shift identification and management; uncertainty modelling and estimation.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 5th Workshop on Uncertainty for Safe Utilization of Machine Learning in Medical Imaging, UNSURE 2023, held in conjunction with MICCAI 2023 in Vancouver, Canada, in October 2023. For this workshop, 21 papers from 32 submissions were accepted for publication. The accepted papers cover the fields of uncertainty estimation and modeling, as well as out of distribution management, domain shift robustness, Bayesian deep learning and uncertainty calibration.

The conference was hybrid event held from Singapore. For this workshop, 13 papers from 22 submissions were accepted for publication. They focus on developing awareness and encouraging research in the field of uncertainty modelling to enable safe implementation of machine learning tools in the clinical world.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Third International Workshop on Uncertainty for Safe Utilization of Machine Learning in Medical Imaging, UNSURE 2021, and the 6th International Workshop on Preterm, Perinatal and Paediatric Image Analysis, PIPPI 2021, held in conjunction with MICCAI 2021. The conference was planned to take place in Strasbourg, France, but was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.For UNSURE 2021, 13 papers from 18 submissions were accepted for publication. They focus on developing awareness and encouraging research in the field of uncertainty modelling to enable safe implementation of machine learning tools in the clinical world. PIPPI 2021 accepted 14 papers from the 18 submissions received. The workshop aims to bring together methods and experience from researchers and authors working on these younger cohorts and provides a forum for the open discussion of advanced image analysis approaches focused on the analysis of growth and development in the fetal, infant and paediatric period.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Second International Workshop on Uncertainty for Safe Utilization of Machine Learning in Medical Imaging, UNSURE 2020, and the Third International Workshop on Graphs in Biomedical Image Analysis, GRAIL 2020, held in conjunction with MICCAI 2020, in Lima, Peru, in October 2020. The workshops were held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.For UNSURE 2020, 10 papers from 18 submissions were accepted for publication. They focus on developing awareness and encouraging research in the field of uncertainty modelling to enable safe implementation of machine learning tools in the clinical world. GRAIL 2020 accepted 10 papers from the 12 submissions received. The workshop aims to bring together scientists that use and develop graph-based models for the analysis of biomedical images and to encourage the exploration of graph-based models for difficult clinical problems within a variety of biomedical imaging contexts.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the First International Workshop on Uncertainty for Safe Utilization of Machine Learning in Medical Imaging, UNSURE 2019, and the 8th International Workshop on Clinical Image-Based Procedures, CLIP 2019, held in conjunction with MICCAI 2019, in Shenzhen, China, in October 2019. For UNSURE 2019, 8 papers from 15 submissions were accepted for publication. They focus on developing awareness and encouraging research in the field of uncertainty modelling to enable safe implementation of machine learning tools in the clinical world. CLIP 2019 accepted 11 papers from the 15 submissions received. The workshops provides a forum for work centred on specific clinical applications, including techniques and procedures based on comprehensive clinical image and other data.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-workshop proceedings of the International Workshop on Medical Computer Vision, MCV 2016, and of the International Workshop on Bayesian and grAphical Models for Biomedical Imaging, BAMBI 2016, held in Athens, Greece, in October 2016, held in conjunction with the 19th International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer-Assisted Intervention, MICCAI 2016. The 13 papers presented in MCV workshop and the 6 papers presented in BAMBI workshop were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. The goal of the MCV workshop is to explore the use of'big data” algorithms for harvesting, organizing and learning from large-scale medical imaging data sets and for general-purpose automatic understanding of medical images. The BAMBI workshop aims to highlight the potential of using Bayesian or random field graphical models for advancing research in biomedical image analysis.

Partners in Literacy describes the process, research, relationships, and theories that guided a three-year partnership between the Purdue University Writing Lab and two community organizations in Lafayette, Indiana: the Lafayette Adult Resource Academy and WorkOne Express. This partnership resulted in a new section of the globally known Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL) and the Community Writing and Education Station (CWEST), which featured adult literacy resources in the areas of GED preparation, English as a Second Language, and workplace and job search literacy. Using an empirical and iterative design process, the authors worked closely with their community partners to develop, test, revise, and launch these resources. In Partners in Literacy, the authors argue that writing centers can be effective spaces from which to work with the community and that writing centers'missions of sustainability, outreach, and research-driven practice can offer valuable philosophies for civic engagement. To support this argument, the book discusses the research methods and findings, the process behind developing and sustaining the three-year engagement project, and the personal relationships that ultimately held the project together.

This book gives a very timely account of recent - partly unpublished - research on the development of gram-positive bacteria as vaccine delivery vehicles for mucosal immunization. The practical and theoretical considerations are discussed and the basic concepts behind the different approaches are compared by giving specific examples of the use of different non-pathogenic bacteria as vaccine vehicles.
