In dieser 3-bändigen Monographie wird erstmals der Versuch unternommen, die Entwicklung der Physik im Zusammenwirken mit der Mathematik und mit den aus ihr hervorgegangenen Teildisziplinen der Nachbarwissenschaften an der Universität Leipzig seit ihrer Gründung und in ihrem wissenschaftlichen Umfeld nachzuzeichnen. Diese lokale Physikgeschichte wird im Kontext der Entwicklung der Physik als Fachdisziplin und mit Blick auf die sächsische Geschichte beschrieben.
