Agriculture is the oldest occupation in both India and the world. In India, more than 620 million tons of agricultural waste are produced annually, out of which only 25-30 percent is utilized for livestock feeding and energy production. Most of the Indian farmers, especially in the north-western region of India, are using crop residue burning practices to clear the field in the rice-wheat cropping system for timely sowing of the next crop. Burning crop residues releases harmful gases like CO2, CH4, N2O, H2S, O3, and smog. Human activities are also continuously increasing the concentration of greenhouse gases (GHGs) in the atmosphere. As a result, air pollution and a significant warming of the earth's surface are happening. Due to the increasing population growth rate over the last few decades, agriculture wastes are also increasing day by day. Most of these wastes are misused either by burning or disposing without applying appropriate methods. This not only wastes potentially valuable resources but also increases the GHG emission in the atmosphere. Therefore, proper utilization and management of agricultural waste in an eco-friendly and sustainable manner will help mitigate the emission of GHGs and the harmful impacts of climate change. There are some traditional and modern methods for reuse, recycling, and recovery of agricultural waste. However, exploring new and alternative methods for utilizing these potentially valuable resources is very necessary for the benefit of humans and the environment.

The Korean American community is one of the major Asian ethnic subgroups in the United States. Though considered among one of the model minority groups, excelling academically and professionally, members in this community are plagued by unaddressed mental health obstacles. In Understanding Korean Americans'Mental Health: A Guide to Culturally Competent Practices, Program Developments, and Policies, the editors, Anderson Sungmin Yoon, Sung Seek Moon, and Haein Son, examine a variety of mental health issues in the Korean American community, including depression, suicide, substance abuse, and trauma, and convincingly connect these challenges to cultural stigma and racial prejudice.The editors argue that this population and its mental health needs are neglected by current approaches in mainstream mental health services. Alarmingly, the very cultural values that help make up the Korean American community are contributing to its members'reluctance to seek care, counting both familial and communal shame among the most pressing culprits. In Calmodulin: Structure, Mechanisms and Functions, the authors consider small and poorly-studied groups of plant calcium-dependent protein kinases that directly interact with calmodulin molecules. In plants, Ca2+ activates calmodulin-like domain kinases that do not require calmodulin or phospholipids. Thus these kinases differ from both CaMK and PKC families prevalent in mammalian cells. Next, various strategies of purification of recombinant proteins using CaM-based purification systems are reviewed and discussed. Protein purification is a crucial process in biotechnology industries and life science research laboratories. Amongst these purification strategies, affinity purification has garnered a lot of attention due to its higher speed and selectivity, leading to enhanced purity in fewer steps. In the closing chapter, the authors describe atomic-level structures of Ca2+-bound CaM (Ca2+/CaM) bound to the PSD-95 N-terminal domain. The N-lobe of CaM forms a cap that binds to the N-terminus of PSD-95 and sterically blocks the palmitoylation of PSD-95 at Cys3 and Cys5. The CaM C-lobe forms hydrophobic contacts with PSD-95 residue Y12, and the Y12E mutation abolishes Ca2+-induced postsynaptic release of PSD-95.

The production of biodiesel is often criticized because of the use of eatable oils like palm oil, soybean oil or rape seed oil. Therefore, researchers from Austria, South Korea, and Germany investigated waste oils from different production processes. In detail, fish oil and rubber tree oil were transesterified with methanol to produce biodiesel. These highly unsaturated biodiesels were tested in a single cylinder diesel engine with respect to their regulated and non-regulated emissions and their health effects. Additionally, the biodiesels were partly hydrogenated to improve the oxidation stability.

With the Twentieth Symposium, we continued the tradition of pro­ viding an informal, congenial atmosphere that our participants find condu­ cive to pursuing technical discussion of program topics. The technical program consisted of 35 oral presentations, a roundtable forum, two spe­ cial topic discussions, and a poster session of 133 posters. Wyman, Dartmouth College professor, Thayer School of Engineering, Hanover, New Hampshire. This award is named in honor of Dr. Charles D. Scott, the founder of this Symposium and its chair for the first ten years.

The increased attendance required concurrent sessions for the 48 oral presentations and 190 submitted posters (for more details see Website: www.ct.ornl.gov/symposium). Attendees came from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hungary, India, Japan, Korea, Mexico, The Netherlands, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, and Ven­ ezuela, as well as from the United States. This international perspective was continued in a Special Topic Ses­ sion sponsored by the International Energy Agency (lEA) Bioenergy Pro­ gram on Biofuels and chaired by Jack Saddler and David Gregg from the University of British Columbia. Several of the 10 member countries in this network are approaching Demonstrations of the Biomass-to-Ethanol pro­ cess and have a range of more fundamental projects that look at various aspects of pretreatment, enzymatic hydrolysis, fermentation, and lignin utilization. Presenters from several of the participating countries described their country's biomass-to-ethanol projects, and differential factors such as the type of biomass available, the maturity of the wood or agricultural processing industry, and the willingness of government to bear the risk/ cost of development and demonstration.

ISES Solar World Congress is the most important conference in the solar energy field around the world.
