Beneficial Microbes for Sustainable Agriculture under Abiotic Stress: Funtional Traits and Regulation highlights the potential for microbe-mediated stress phytolerance to be improved by presenting multiple scenarios of application and results. In most research and studies, abiotic stress is applied singularly to specific plants inoculated with a bioinoculum or a bacterial consortium to isolate specific plant-microbe responses. However, in reality, plants are continually exposed to a multitude of different stresses simultaneously occurring. This book presents bacteria functional traits and bacteria-mediated plant responses under both specific or combined stress conditions. Collectively, it provides insights into bacterial functional traits and bacteria-mediated plant responses in a wide range of conditions, providing foundational understanding of their potential benefits, and inspiring further research. The book centers on specific bacterial strains and groups which have been shown to effectively promote stress tolerance, and which could be utilized to boost agricultural production under stress conditions. Their potential utilization in stress affected lands not just improves crop production but could also be in line with sustainable agriculture. With the advancement of tools such as Omics related technologies, emerging information on bacterial functional traits and regulations on bacteria mediated phytotolerance will also allow us to develop relevant biotechnologies harnessing potentials of plant-bacteria interactions under stress conditions. Cotton is one of the most important fiber and cash crops throughout the world, and it plays a dominant role in the industrial and agricultural economies of many countries. Flooding is one of the most frequent and severe disasters in Hoi An City. The analysis of flood events in Hoi An revealed the impacts of flooding on many aspects of human life in this area including severe health risk. However, through literature review, the research showed that few studies about health risk assessment were performed in Vietnam in general and in Hoi An City specifically. Therefore, assessment of the health risk due to flooding is conducted in this research. The goal of this study is to develop a method to assess human health risk due to flooding with a focus on communicable diseases. It also aims to reduce health risk due to flooding by exploring areas that are most at risk. The methodology consists of (i) creating the health susceptibility map based on the Health Susceptibility Index (HSI); (ii) integration of health susceptibility with exposure information into vulnerability information; (iii) spatial analysis of health risk by the combination between health vulnerability and flood hazard information; (iv) evaluating the research results with the incidence of diseases in reality. The health risk map is the first holistic map of its kind for defining the spatial distribution of risk areas in Hoi An City.

The Chinese economic miracle is happening despite, not because of, China's 900 million peasants. They are missing from the portraits of booming Shanghai, or Beijing. Many of China's underclass live under a feudalistic system unchanged since the fifteenth century. They are truly the voiceless in modern China. They are also, perhaps, the reason that China will not be able to make the great social and economic leap forward, because if it is to leap it must carry the 900 million with it. Chinese journalists Wu Chuntao and Chen Guidi returned to Wu's home province of Anhui, one of China's poorest, to undertake a three-year survey of what had happened to the peasants there, asking the question: Have the peasants been betrayed by the revolution undertaken in their name by Mao and his successors? The result is a brilliant narrative of life among the 900 million, and a vivid portrait of the petty dictators that run China's villages and counties and the consequences of their bullying despotism on the people they administer. Told principally through four dramatic narratives of particular Anhui people, Will the Boat Sink the Water? gives voice to the unheard masses and looks beneath the gloss of the new China to find the truth of daily life for its vast population of rural poor.
