This edited collection presents the complex theory of kitsch from aesthetic and artistic points of view, transposed into managerial and organisational fields. In the spirit of management aesthetics, on the ground of humanistic management, the central aim of the volume is to show that kitsch is a common phenomenon not only in art and culture but also in management, and its conscious perception and mindful use may be beneficial for achieving organisational and managerial goals efficiently. Due to the diverse research problems covered by particular chapters, no unified methodology is applied in the book; every author applied an optimal method for the selected topic. However, due to the complex and metaphysical character of the kitsch phenomenon, the only common fundament of all chapters is using the kitsch experience theory (Szostak and Sułkowski, 2020). The dominant analytical approach is qualitative, with extensive use of case studies, comparative analyses, and ethnographic focus. Despite this, some chapters also include the application of the quantitative approach for the hypotheses'verification. This book makes a giant step ahead of its competitors by implementing the kitsch theory, especially the kitsch experience theory in a broad spectrum of managerial and organisational fields like marketing, advertising, brand management, business communication, entrepreneurship, leadership, decision-making, human resource management, corporate social responsibility, city space management, management of technology and innovation, and organisational culture. This book explores how the development of innovative urban agricultural businesses is creating social innovation and changing the perception and behavior of urban residents, with a focus on Shanghai, China, a global city that has achieved economic growth amid rapid urbanization. Latent class analysis, cognitive map analysis, and structural equation modeling were introduced in this research to evaluate the results of a questionnaire survey of urban residents'sense of community and community garden initiatives. Qualitative analyses such as the trajectory equifinality model were applied to cases of social entrepreneurs in urban agriculture as a creative class. The analytical results revealed that urban agriculture can contribute to the quality of urban life. In addition, the results made clear that diverse strategies are implemented in urban agriculture, bringing about changes in the urban sociocultural environment, such as the interaction among social entrepreneurs and stakeholders, including urban residents and policy makers. The government should implement policies and measures that transform the socio-cultural environment, encompassing gender issues, in order to achieve the well-being of urban residents. It is extremely important for policy makers to understand residents'true needs and their diversity, and to effectively reflect them in urban planning and project implementation.

Dafür mangelt es jedoch oft noch an Konzepten und Formaten. Das gilt auch für die Sportwissenschaft im Allgemeinen und die Sportpädagogik im Besonderen. Vor diesem Hintergrund werden mit dem Band Grundlagen, Themen und Formate sportpädagogischer Transferaktivitäten zusammengetragen und systematisiert.

The book will explore, using multiple perspectives from multiple contributors, two main aspects for circular economy (CE) business and technology (B&T): systems and value perspectives. Going beyond a linear-economic perspective--the traditional perspective--CE needs to develop intentional and integrated paths to help restore physical resources and regenerate the functions of natural and anthropic systems, creating greater economic and social opportunities, with environmentally positive outcomes. Whether this is feasible and possible within the context of CE and B&T is something that will be central to the contributions made in this book. A major objective of the book is to deliver practical and fundamental knowledge of B&T CE insights combining a systems perspective and value creation for socio-technical innovation leading to sustainable transitions and effective transformations. Based on those key aspects, the book is structured in two parts, one from a more theoretical and conceptual basis in Part 1, and a more applied perspective in Part 2. The chapters in Part 1 are presented through the lens of business and systems transitions. In Part 2, the chapters present the opportunities and the journeys from real case studies of companies engaged in circular business strategies, processes, practices, and technologies.

Despite the strong economic growth of the last decades, our modern global society is facing the existential threat of climate change. It is now realized that the linear economic model is not sustainable in the long run and cannot sustain the life standards. The new circular economy approach that is already under discussion suggests the adjustment of our priorities and the re-orientation of the future infrastructure investments. In this context, we are looking for new, innovative and sustainable solutions to increase the resiliency of our societies, to protect and restore the ecosystems, and to maintain the necessary economic growth without further undermining the planet's boundaries. The well-being of coming generations will depend on our ability to adapt our economies to this challenge. In particular, transforming today's cities into sustainable cities is one of the main adaptations that will be necessary. A holistic approach looking at cities from a system's perspective is neededto achieve this goal. Nature-based solutions (NbS) serve exactly this ambitious and multi-factorial purpose due to their inherent ability not only to tackle climate change but also to provide a series of ecosystem services and social benefits. In the urban context, NbS can deal with main challenges such as urban heat islands, flooding, treatment of wastewater and runoff and food provision. At the same time, NbS can provide a series of ecosystem services beneficial for the environment and the society including clean water production, nutrient recovery, heavy metals retention and a broad range of plant-based materials. In the new circular economy paradigm, NbS can contribute to strategies for climate change adaptation and create a holistic resource management system for the urban biosphere. Thus, this book aims at providing a single reference that discusses the role and effectiveness of NbS in the urban environment and how these systems can contribute to the circular management of water, nutrients and resources towards resilient, sustainable and healthy cities. The scope of the book extends to various fields and disciplines such as the built environment, urban water and wastewater, resource recovery, urban farming, smart sensing, research and development, technology and innovation, society and governance. Research studies, pilot projects, and case studies are part of the book.

This book considers and examines the concept of a Smart City in the context of improving the quality of life and sustainable development in Central and Eastern European cities.The Smart City concept has been gaining popularity in recent years, with supporters considering it to be an effective tool to improve the quality of life of the city's residents. In turn, opponents argue that it is a source of imbalance and claim that it escalates the problems of social and economic exclusion. This book, therefore, assesses the quality of life and its unsustainability in Central and Eastern European cities within the context of the Smart City concept and from the perspective of key areas of sustainable development. This book argues that, given the complex nature of the urban environment, we cannot find one optimal solution to reducing environmental injustice, in part because there is no singular cause. Environmental injustice emerges in particular settings because of the combined and interdependent effects of a variety of different policy and community characteristics. The authors argue that addressing these interlinked problems requires an understanding of the clusters of community and contextual factors that combine in a variety of ways to both create problems and imply policy approaches to managing them. They argue for the use of complexity-informed methods to assist in making public policy choices, such as Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) and Agent-based Modeling (ABM), to enable us to better identify plausible solutions for specific contexts. This volume offers a new perspective for strategically managing urban policy that considers the risk of gentrification and gentrification-related displacement, with the ultimate goal of improving social justice. Environmental injustice, pollution remediation, gentrification, and displacement are interlinked problems, all of which impinge on social justice in US cities. However, public policy research, and often practice as well, has tended to separately consider urban policy issues such as environmental injustice, brownfields and other pollution remediation, how to redevelop neighborhoods, and how to contend with gentrification and displacement. In this book the authors take a new perspective to such intertwined urban policy issues, using complexity thinking and, more importantly, complex adaptive systems approaches, in order to develop context-sensitive policy approaches to managing these ongoing problems.

This book provides huge knowledge and data in the fields of geospatial sciences, earth environmental sciences, humanities, and social sciences, which target a diverse range of readers, such as academics, scientists, students, environmentalists, meteorologists, urban planners, remote sensing, and GIS experts. Earth environment (ecological envelope of geosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and cryosphere) faces a significant challenge from different risks and threats due to due to rapid changes in global land use, population increase and pollution. They might drastically impair the ecosystem's ability to maintain long-term service levels while bolstering the economic, social, and environmental pillars of sustainable development. Therefore, risk assessment (RA) has lately become a prominent research topic and a powerful mechanism for enforcing legal activities-related environmental restoration and health improvements to do sustainable development. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) first used the risk assessment approach in 1980, and since then, it has expanded and become standard practice in many areas of ecological research. Some practices are air quality assessment, land degradation assessment, natural hazards risk assessment, urban surface ecological health condition, wetland and forest health assessment and drinking water quality assessment. However, recently risk assessment alone is not sufficient to propose any sustainable management plans. Also, there is no universal strategy for conducting risk assessments, and insufficient expertise with the methodology may result in erroneous findings. Therefore, scientists are increasingly interested in developing resilience strategies with AI and geospatial-based risk assessment to lower environmental risk. Different resilience approaches make different assumptions about the system dynamics involved in resilience-based environmental risk and impact assessment. Therefore, this book seeks to showcase the most current advances in risk and hazards assessment of environments with resilience strategies to mitigate the prevailing environmental issues with the help of remote sensing, GIS, artificial intelligence, and state-of-the-art frameworks like PSR, VIOR, nature-based solutions.

Krisen und Disruptionen in der Gesellschaft – ausgelöst etwa durch die Digitalisierung oder durch soziokulturelle, ökologische und politische Transformationsprozesse – verändern die kommunikative Sphäre der Öffentlichkeit grundlegend. Die Theoriebildung zur Öffentlichkeit reagiert allerdings nur bedingt auf diese Transformationen, was eine valide Analyse ihrer Probleme und Herausforderungen verhindert. Dieses Defizit will Martin R. Herbers mit seiner neuen Theorie der Öffentlichkeit, der'Post-Publics', beheben. Diese integriert die disruptiven Transformationen und wendet sich gegen ein Verständnis von Öffentlichkeit als einer statischen Sphäre der Kommunikation. This handbook conceptualizes sustainable digitalization and discusses the role of digitalization in addressing business and societal challenges. Divided into eight sections, the book opens by an introductory chapter examining the theoretical foundations of the field. Part 1 explores the first dimension of sustainable digitalization, namely digitalization for sustainability (DFS) or how digitalization could address several of the sustainable development goals. Part 2 addresses the second dimension of sustainable digitalization. Titled responsible digital (RD), it covers the potential risks of increased digitalization and outlines strategies for governing digitalization for sustainable development to avoid the risks summarized earlier in the book. Tying digitalization to such topics as smart agriculture, industry 4.0, education, ecological transition, climate, clean water, food production, and social well-being, this handbook provides a framework for the emerging field of sustainable digitalization.

This book presents a set of chapters produced by six research groups that developed the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) Thematic Project Environmental Governance of the São Paulo macrometropolis (SPMM) in the face of Climate Variability (2017–2022). It represents an academic experience based on the articulation of knowledge and interdisciplinary dialogue. For this publication, the individual research groups benefitted from internal expertise and interdisciplinary input, reflecting the collaborative process of the entire team.The SPMM is characterized by the diversity and complementarity of economic, social and environmental functions exercised in its territory, comprising 174 municipalities, with the capital city of São Paulo as its polarizing center. It is structured from a set of five metropolitan regions, two urban agglomerates and one micro-region—not institutionalized—in the State of São Paulo, sheltering around 34 million people who inhabit the richest and economically strongest region in Brazil. The SPMM, one of the urban territorial clusters of greatest expression in the southern hemisphere, is a strategic arena for the formulation and implementation of planning, governance and trans- and multi-scalar regional public policies.The English translation of this book from its Portuguese original manuscript was done with the help of artificial intelligence. A subsequent human revision of the content was done by the volume editors.

This open access book comes at an opportune time, with ‘land take'high on the EU policy agenda. It shows how over one million hectares in Europe became urbanized between 2000 and 2018, over eight times that which changed back to agriculture or nature. Die Qualität eines Unterrichts, der sich an den individuellen Voraussetzungen der Schulkinder orientiert, hängt maßgeblich mit der diagnostischen Kompetenz der Lehrkraft zusammen. Folglich ist die Entwicklung dieser eine grundlegende Aufgabe aller drei Phasen der Lehrkräftebildung. In der vorliegenden Studie wird das Praxissemester als struktureller Bestandteil der ersten Phase der Lehramtsausbildung fokussiert und die Wirkung auf die Entwicklung mathematikspezifischer diagnostischer Kompetenz untersucht. Den Kern der als mixed-method angelegten längsschnittlichen Evaluation stellen vier Videovignetten dar, zu denen die Studierenden aus dem Grundschullehramt in einer Online-Umfrage mit offenen Antwortformaten aufgefordert wurden, die Lösungswege von Kindern zur Addition und Subtraktion fachlich angemessen zu analysieren. Die Ergebnisse bestätigen einerseits die geringe Effektivität vor allem der schulischen Praxisphase. Anderseits werden auf Basis der vorliegenden Daten relevante Bedingungsfaktoren herausgearbeitet und Verbesserungsmöglichkeiten für die universitäre und schulische Phase des Praxissemesters diskutiert.
