This book, entitled Collected Papers: Financial Regulation in Estonia, Poland and Latvia within the Context of European Union Membership, brings together five papers that the author wrote during the course of his career. The first and the last are short articles on general topics – with the former being written approximately ten years earlier than the latter. Both are constructed around defining events – the first the enactment of the Lisbon Treaty, which can be seen with the benefit of hindsight as a time of unity and promise within the European Union, and the other the process of the United Kingdom leaving the European Union – a time at which both the unity and the promise have withered. The second and the third are substantive items – the former examining the extent to which laws of the then-new Member States of the European Union Estonia, Poland and Latvia comply with that Union's free movement of capital rules, and the latter reporting the results of a survey of company executives within those three countries on their views as to the degree to which their businesses are affected by national limitations on the free movement of capital. The fourth paper investigates the extent to which accession to the European Union has affected regulation of the retail banking sector in those three states.

A David and Goliath battle for truth A specialist in GM foods and pesticides, the biologist Gilles-Éric Seralini has studied their toxicity and effects on people's health for many years. In September 2012, for the first time in a major scientific journal (Food and Chemical Toxicology), he published a study showing the effect on the liver and kidneys of two of Monsanto's flagship products: Roundup weedkiller and the GM foods created to absorb it. Images from the study of tumor-ridden rats fed with GM foods and Roundup went viral. The study was a PR disaster for Monsanto. The multinational soon bounced back and did everything in its power to cover up the study—leaning on the publishers to retract the findings. The Federalist Papers are a collection of eighty-five articles and essays written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay in favor of ratifying the United States Constitution. Public interest surrounding celebrity writers had exploded by the late twentieth century, and as Placing Papers illustrates, even the best funded institutions were forced to contend with the facts that acquiring contemporary literary archives had become cost prohibitive and increasingly competitive.

Paper Bullets, first published in 1946, is an overview of some of the propaganda methods used by the Allied and Axis countries in World War II. This “psychological warfare,” highly effective in many cases, was used to demoralize the enemy, spread falsehoods, influence soldiers to surrender, serve as “safe-conduct” passes, provide a source of reliable news, and warn civilians of impending bombardments. Thousands of lives were likely saved by the use of leaflets, dropped from airplanes or sent over enemy lines via specially designed artillery shells. The book also examines Nazi and Japanese propaganda aimed at U.S. audiences. Included are 50 pages of propaganda examples used during the war by the Americans, Germans, and Japanese. This book is a useful reference for those interested in the late Georgian Navy and focusses on one of the leading Admirals of its day. Admiral Sir Philip Charles Henderson Calderwood Durham's illustrious thirty-eight-year career included being flag-officer he commanded the Leeward Islands and Portsmouth. He however survived the capsizing of the Royal George in 1882 and he was captain of a ship of the line at Trafalgar, where he had two enemy ships surrender to him. Durham was born in 1763 overlooking the Firth of Forth in Scotland. He entered the Navy in 1777, and soon had a reputation as a daring young master and commander. He was one of the most distinguished and colourful officers of the late Georgian Navy. and was widely considered to be one of its luckiest officers. Durham's record of prize-taking was extremely impressive, and correspondingly lucrative. He saw service in the North American Station and the West Indies. He died in 1845. An earlier biography published a year after his death omitted several important events and this book sets out to rectify this. This collection of his papers consists mainly of letters and despatches relating to his service in the Channel Fleet, the Mediterranean, and the Leeward Islands.
