- Abstract
This book fills an important gap in studies on D. D. Kosambi. For the first time, the mathematical work of Kosambi is described, collected and presented in a manner that is accessible to non-mathematicians as well. A number of his papers that are difficult to obtain in these areas are made available here. In addition, there are essays by Kosambi that have not been published earlier as well as some of his lesser known works. Each of the twenty four papers is prefaced by a commentary on the significance of the work, and where possible, extracts from technical reviews by other mathematicians.

- Abstract
This book is an autobiographical interview with Chinese Academician Yuan Wang on his experience in mathematical research. The book looks back on Wang's collaboration with his teacher Hua Loo-Keng and younger scholars, offering insights into fruitful cooperation in mathematical research. In this book, Yuan Wang's path of studying Goldbach conjecture is revealed in detail from motivation to method. Then his work on algebraic number theory is traced back in a separate chapter. The book ends with two chapters which introduce Wang's interest in history of mathematics and his hobbies outside of mathematical research. Wang shows how a mathematician can in the same time be a historical and popular science writer and, in particular, a well-received calligrapher. The book is intended for undergraduate and graduate students studying number theory. Researchers who are willing to learn from the experience of an established mathematician, as well as math amateurs and general audience who are interested in Yuan Wang's life story might also find this book appealing.

- Abstract
This book presents a selection of papers presented to the Second Inter national Symposium on Semi-Markov Models: Theory and Applications held in Compiegne (France) in December 1998. This international meeting had the same aim as the first one held in Brussels in 1984 : to make, fourteen years later, the state of the art in the field of semi-Markov processes and their applications, bring together researchers in this field and also to stimulate fruitful discussions. The set of the subjects of the papers presented in Compiegne has a lot of similarities with the preceding Symposium; this shows that the main fields of semi-Markov processes are now well established particularly for basic applications in Reliability and Maintenance, Biomedicine, Queue ing, Control processes and production. A growing field is the one of insurance and finance but this is not really a surprising fact as the problem of pricing derivative products represents now a crucial problem in economics and finance. For example, stochastic models can be applied to financial and insur ance models as we have to evaluate the uncertainty of the future market behavior in order, firstly, to propose different measures for important risks such as the interest risk, the risk of default or the risk of catas trophe and secondly, to describe how to act in order to optimize the situation in time. Recently, the concept of VaR (Value at Risk) was'discovered'in portfolio theory enlarging so the fundamental model of Markowitz.

- Abstract
In response to a growing interest in Total Least Squares (TLS) and Errors-In-Variables (EIV) modeling by researchers and practitioners, well-known experts from several disciplines were invited to prepare an overview paper and present it at the third international workshop on TLS and EIV modeling held in Leuven, Belgium, August 27-29, 2001. These invited papers, representing two-thirds of the book, together with a selection of other presented contributions yield a complete overview of the main scientific achievements since 1996 in TLS and Errors-In-Variables modeling. In this way, the book nicely completes two earlier books on TLS (SIAM 1991 and 1997). Not only computational issues, but also statistical, numerical, algebraic properties are described, as well as many new generalizations and applications. Being aware of the growing interest in these techniques, it is a strong belief that this book will aid and stimulate users to apply the new techniques and models correctly to their own practical problems.

- Abstract
This book was originally compiled for a course I taught at the University of Rochester in the fall of 1991, and is intended to give advanced graduate students in statistics an introduction to Edgeworth and saddlepoint approximations, and related techniques. Many other authors have also written monographs on this sub ject, and so this work is narrowly focused on two areas not recently discussed in theoretical text books. These areas are, first, a rigorous consideration of Edgeworth and saddlepoint expansion limit theorems, and second, a survey of the more recent developments in the field. In presenting expansion limit theorems I have drawn heavily on notation of McCullagh (1987) and on the theorems presented by Feller (1971) on Edgeworth expansions. For saddlepoint notation and results I relied most heavily on the many papers of Daniels, and a review paper by Reid (1988). Throughout this book I have tried to maintain consistent notation and to present theorems in such a way as to make a few theoretical results useful in as many contexts aS possible. This was not only in order to present as many results with as few proofs as possible, but more importantly to show the interconnections between the various facets of asymptotic theory. Special attention is paid to regularity conditions. The reasons they are needed and the parts they play in the proofs are both highlighted.

- Abstract
Knowledge acquisition is one of the most important aspects influencing the quality of methods used in artificial intelligence and the reliability of expert systems. The various issues dealt with in this volume concern many different approaches to the handling of partial knowledge and to the ensuing methods for reasoning and decision making under uncertainty, as applied to problems in artificial intelligence. The volume is composed of the invited and contributed papers presented at the Workshop on Mathematical Models for Handling Partial Knowledge in Artificial Intelligence, held at the Ettore Majorana Center for Scientific Culture of Erice (Sicily, Italy) on June 19-25, 1994, in the framework of the International School of Mathematics'G.Stampacchia'. It includes also a transcription of the roundtable held during the workshop to promote discussions on fundamental issues, since in the choice of invited speakers we have tried to maintain a balance between the various schools of knowl edge and uncertainty modeling. Choquet expected utility models are discussed in the paper by Alain Chateauneuf: they allow the separation of perception of uncertainty or risk from the valuation of outcomes, and can be of help in decision mak ing. Petr Hajek shows that reasoning in fuzzy logic may be put on a strict logical (formal) basis, so contributing to our understanding of what fuzzy logic is and what one is doing when applying fuzzy reasoning.

- Abstract
The present volume contains a selection of papers presented at the Eighth Conference of the International Federation of Classification Societies (IFCS) which was held in Cracow, Poland, July 16-19, 2002. All originally submitted papers were subject to a reviewing process by two independent referees, a procedure which resulted in the selection of the 53 articles presented in this volume. These articles relate to theoretical investigations as well as to practical applications and cover a wide range of topics in the broad domain of classifi cation, data analysis and related methods. If we try to classify the wealth of problems, methods and approaches into some representative (partially over lapping) groups, we find in particular the following areas: • Clustering • Cluster validation • Discrimination • Multivariate data analysis • Statistical methods • Symbolic data analysis • Consensus trees and phylogeny • Regression trees • Neural networks and genetic algorithms • Applications in economics, medicine, biology, and psychology. Given the international orientation of IFCS conferences and the leading role of IFCS in the scientific world of classification, clustering and data anal ysis, this volume collects a representative selection of current research and modern applications in this field and serves as an up-to-date information source for statisticians, data analysts, data mining specialists and computer scientists.

- Abstract
This volume provides a unique collection of mathematical tools and industrial case studies in digital manufacturing. It addresses various topics, ranging from models of single production technologies, production lines, logistics and workflows to models and optimization strategies for energy consumption in production. The digital factory represents a network of digital models and simulation and 3D visualization methods for the holistic planning, realization, control and ongoing improvement of all factory processes related to a specific product. In the past ten years, all industrialized countries have launched initiatives to realize this vision, sometimes also referred to as Industry 4.0 (in Europe) or Smart Manufacturing (in the United States). Its main goals are • reconfigurable, adaptive and evolving factories capable of small-scale production • high-performance production, combining flexibility, productivity, precision and zero defects •energy and resource efficiency in manufacturing None of these goals can be achieved without a thorough modeling of all aspects of manufacturing together with a multi-scale simulation and optimization of process chains; in other words, without mathematics. To foster collaboration between mathematics and industry in this area the European Consortium for Mathematics in Industry (ECMI) founded a special interest group on Math for the Digital Factory (M4DiFa). This book compiles a selection of review papers from the M4DiFa kick-off meeting held at the Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics in Berlin, Germany, in May 2014. The workshop aimed at bringing together mathematicians working on modeling, simulation and optimization with researchers and practitioners from the manufacturing industry to develop a holistic mathematical view on digital manufacturing. This book is of interest to practitioners from industry who want to learn about important mathematical concepts, as well as to scientists who want to find out about an exciting new area of application that is of vital importance for today's highly industrialized and high-wage countries.

- Abstract
This volume contains the majority of the papers presented at the 5th Inter national Workshop on Model-Oriented Data Analysis held in June 1998. This series started in March 1987 with a meeting on the Wartburg, Eisenach (Germany). The next three meetings were in 1990 (St Kyrik monastery, Bulgaria), 1992 (Petrodvorets, StPetersburg, Russia) and 1995 (Spetses, Greece). The main purpose of these workshops was to bring together lead ing scientists from'Eastern'and'Western'Europe for the exchange of ideas in theoretical and applied statistics, with special emphasis on experimen tal design. Now that the separation between East and West has become less rigid, this dialogue has, in principle, become much easier. However, providing opportunities for this dialogue is as vital as ever. MODA meetings are known for their friendly atmosphere, leading to fruitful discussions and collaboration, especially between young and senior scien tists. Indeed, many long term collaborations were initiated during these events. This intellectually stimulating atmosphere is achieved by limiting the number of participants to around eighty, by the choice of location so that participants can live as a community, and, of course, through the care ful selection of scientific direction made by the Programme Committee.

The organizers of the 12th International Conference on Multiple Cri teria Decision Making (MCDM) held June 19-23, 1995 in Hagen received the second time the opportunity to prepare an international conference on MCDM in Germany; the first opportunity has been the 3rd International Conference on MCDM in Konigswinter, 1979. Quite a time ellapsed since then and therefore it might be interesting to compare some indicators of the development of the International Society on MCDM, which has been founded in Konigswinter. Stanley Zionts has been elected first president and all 44 participants of that Conference became founding members. Today our Society has over 1200 members and its own Journal (MCDM World Scan). In Hagen, 1996, we had 152 participants from 34 countries. It is interesting to mention that also other Groups established their organi zation, like the European Working Group on Multiple Criteria Decision Aid, the German Working Group on Decision Theory and Applications, the Multi Objective Programming and Goal Programming Group, ESIGMA, and some others. It is also interesting to note that the intersection of members of all these Groups and Societies is not empty and there is quite a cooperation among them.

- Abstract
The papers collected in this volume are contributions to T.I.Tech./K.E.S. Conference on Nonlinear and Convex Analysis in Economic Theory, which was held at Keio University, July 2-4, 1993. The conference was organized by Tokyo Institute of Technology (T. I. Tech.) and the Keio Economic Society (K. E. S.), and supported by Nihon Keizai Shimbun Inc.. A lot of economic problems can be formulated as constrained optimiza tions and equilibrations of their solutions. Nonlinear-convex analysis has been supplying economists with indispensable mathematical machineries for these problems arising in economic theory. Conversely, mathematicians working in this discipline of analysis have been stimulated by various mathematical difficulties raised by economic the ories. Although our special emphasis was laid upon'nonlinearity'and'con vexity'in relation with economic theories, we also incorporated stochastic aspects of financial economics in our project taking account of the remark able rapid growth of this discipline during the last decade. The conference was designed to bring together those mathematicians who were seriously interested in getting new challenging stimuli from economic theories with those economists who were seeking for effective mathematical weapons for their researches. Thirty invited talks (six of them were plenary talks) given at the conf- ence were roughly classified under the following six headings : 1) Nonlinear Dynamical Systems and Business Fluctuations,. 2) Fixed Point Theory, 3) Convex Analysis and Optimization, 4) Eigenvalue of Positive Operators, 5) Stochastic Analysis and Financial Market, 6) General Equilibrium Analysis.

- Abstract
The Strunk and White of statistics team up to help the average person navigate the numbers in the news Drawing on their hugely popular BBC Radio 4 show More or Less, journalist Michael Blastland and internationally known economist Andrew Dilnot delight, amuse, and convert American mathphobes by showing how our everyday experiences make sense of numbers. The radical premise of The Numbers Game is to show how much we already know and give practical ways to use our knowledge to become cannier consumers of the media. If you've ever wondered what'average'really means, whether the scare stories about cancer risk should convince you to change your behavior, or whether a story you read in the paper is biased (and how), you need this book. Blastland and Dilnot show how to survive and thrive on the torrent of numbers that pours through everyday life.

- Abstract
This is a history of parametric statistical inference, written by one of the most important historians of statistics of the 20th century, Anders Hald. This book can be viewed as a follow-up to his two most recent books, although this current text is much more streamlined and contains new analysis of many ideas and developments. And unlike his other books, which were encyclopedic by nature, this book can be used for a course on the topic, the only prerequisites being a basic course in probability and statistics. The book is divided into five main sections: • Binomial statistical inference; • Statistical inference by inverse probability; • The central limit theorem and linear minimum variance estimation by Laplace and Gauss; • Error theory, skew distributions, correlation, sampling distributions; • The Fisherian Revolution, 1912-1935. Throughout each of the chapters, the author provides lively biographical sketches of many of the main characters, including Laplace, Gauss, Edgeworth, Fisher, and Karl Pearson. He also examines the roles played by DeMoivre, James Bernoulli, and Lagrange, and he provides an accessible exposition of the work of R.A. Fisher. This book will be of interest to statisticians, mathematicians, undergraduate and graduate students, and historians of science.

- Abstract
This book tells the story of the probability integral, the approaches to analyzing it throughout history, and the many areas of science where it arises. The so-called probability integral, the integral over the real line of a Gaussian function, occurs ubiquitously in mathematics, physics, engineering and probability theory. Stubbornly resistant to the undergraduate toolkit for handling integrals, calculating its value and investigating its properties occupied such mathematical luminaries as De Moivre, Laplace, Poisson, and Liouville. This book introduces the probability integral, puts it into a historical context, and describes the different approaches throughout history to evaluate and analyze it. The author also takes entertaining diversions into areas of math, science, and engineering where the probability integral arises: as well as being indispensable to probability theory and statistics, it also shows up naturally in thermodynamics and signal processing. Designed to be accessible to anyone at the undergraduate level and above, this book will appeal to anyone interested in integration techniques, as well as historians of math, science, and statistics.

- Abstract
This book presents new computation schemes for the sensitivity of options using the binomial tree and introduces readers to the discrete Malliavin calculus. It also shows that applications of the discrete Malliavin calculus approach to the binomial tree model offer fundamental tools for computing Greeks. The binomial tree approach is one of the most popular methods in option pricing. Although it is a fairly traditional model for option pricing, it is still widely used in financial institutions since it is tractable and easy to understand. However, the book shows that the tree approach also offers a powerful tool for deriving the Greeks for options. Greeks are quantities that represent the sensitivities of the price of derivative securities with respect to changes in the underlying asset price or parameters. The Malliavin calculus, the stochastic methods of variations, is one of the most popular tools used to derive Greeks. However, it is also very difficult to understand for most students and practitioners because it is based on complex mathematics. To help readers more easily understand the Malliavin calculus, the book introduces the discrete Malliavin calculus, a theory of the functional for the Bernoulli random walk. The discrete Malliavin calculus is significantly easier to understand, because the functional space of the Bernoulli random walk is realized in a finite dimensional space. As such, it makes this valuable tool far more accessible for a broad readership.

It is proved that the NSP is physically wrong, and the solution to the NSP does not exist on ℝ+ (except for the case when the initial velocity and the exterior force are both equal to zero; in this case, the solution (, ) to the NSP exists for all ≥ 0 and (, ) = 0). It is shown that if the initial data 0() ≢ 0, (,) = 0 and the solution to the NSP exists for all ϵ ℝ+, then 0() := (, 0) = 0. This Paradox proves that the NSP is physically incorrect and mathematically unsolvable, in general. Uniqueness of the solution to the NSP in the space 21(ℝ3) × C(ℝ+) is proved, 21(ℝ3) is the Sobolev space, ℝ+ = [0, ∞). Theory of integral equations and inequalities with hyper-singular kernels is developed. The NSP is reduced to an integral inequality with a hyper-singular kernel.

- Abstract
Computational analysis of natural science experiments often confronts noisy data due to natural variability in environment or measurement. Drawing conclusions in the face of such noise entails a statistical analysis. Parametric statistical methods assume that the data is a sample from a population that can be characterized by a specific distribution (e.g., a normal distribution). When the assumption is true, parametric approaches can lead to high confidence predictions. However, in many cases particular distribution assumptions do not hold. In that case, assuming a distribution may yield false conclusions. The companion book Statistics is Easy, gave a (nearly) equation-free introduction to nonparametric (i.e., no distribution assumption) statistical methods. The present book applies data preparation, machine learning, and nonparametric statistics to three quite different life science datasets. We provide the code as applied to each dataset in both R and Python 3. We also include exercises for self-study or classroom use.

- Abstract
This is the second part of our book on continuous statistical distributions. It covers inverse-Gaussian, Birnbaum-Saunders, Pareto, Laplace, central ², , , Weibull, Rayleigh, Maxwell, and extreme value distributions. Important properties of these distribution are documented, and most common practical applications are discussed. This book can be used as a reference material for graduate courses in engineering statistics, mathematical statistics, and econometrics. Professionals and practitioners working in various fields will also find some of the chapters to be useful.Although an extensive literature exists on each of these distributions, we were forced to limit the size of each chapter and the number of references given at the end due to the publishing plan of this book that limits its size. Nevertheless, we gratefully acknowledge the contribution of all those authors whose names have been left out. Some knowledge in introductoryalgebra and college calculus is assumed throughout the book. Integration is extensively used in several chapters, and many results discussed in Part I (Chapters 1 to 9) of our book are used in this volume.Chapter 10 is on Inverse Gaussian distribution and its extensions. The Birnbaum-Saunders distribution and its extensions along with applications in actuarial sciences is discussed in Chapter 11. Chapter 12 discusses Pareto distribution and its extensions. The Laplace distribution and its applications in navigational errors is discussed in the next chapter. This is followed by central chi-squared distribution and its applications in statistical inference, bioinformatics and genomics. Chapter 15 discusses Student's distribution, its extensions and applications in statistical inference. The distribution and its applications in statistical inference appears next. Chapter 17 is on Weibull distribution and its applications in geology and reliability engineering. Next two chapters are on Rayleigh and Maxwell distributions and its applications in communications, wind energy modeling, kinetic gas theory, nuclear and thermal engineering, and physical chemistry. The last chapter is on Gumbel distribution, its applications in the law of rare exceedances.Suggestions for improvement are welcome. Please send them to rajan.chattamvelli@vit.ac.in.

- Abstract
This second edition textbook offers a practical introduction to probability for undergraduates at all levels with different backgrounds and views towards applications. Calculus is a prerequisite for understanding the basic concepts, however the book is written with a sensitivity to students'common difficulties with calculus that does not obscure the thorough treatment of the probability content. The first six chapters of this text neatly and concisely cover the material traditionally required by most undergraduate programs for a first course in probability. The comprehensive text includes a multitude of new examples and exercises, and careful revisions throughout. Particular attention is given to the expansion of the last three chapters of the book with the addition of one entirely new chapter (9) on'Finding and Comparing Estimators.'The classroom-tested material presented in this second edition forms the basis for a second course introducing mathematical statistics.

- Abstract
This text provides an introduction to the applications and implementations of partial differential equations. The content is structured in three progressive levels which are suited for upper–level undergraduates with background in multivariable calculus and elementary linear algebra (chapters 1–5), first– and second–year graduate students who have taken advanced calculus and real analysis (chapters 6-7), as well as doctoral-level students with an understanding of linear and nonlinear functional analysis (chapters 7-8) respectively. Level one gives readers a full exposure to the fundamental linear partial differential equations of physics. It details methods to understand and solve these equations leading ultimately to solutions of Maxwell's equations. Level two addresses nonlinearity and provides examples of separation of variables, linearizing change of variables, and the inverse scattering transform for select nonlinear partial differential equations. Level three presents rich sources of advanced techniques and strategies for the study of nonlinear partial differential equations, including unique and previously unpublished results. Ultimately the text aims to familiarize readers in applied mathematics, physics, and engineering with some of the myriad techniques that have been developed to model and solve linear and nonlinear partial differential equations.

Book V completes the discussion of the first four books by treating in some detail the analytic results in elliptic operator theory used previously. Chapters 16 and 17 provide a treatment of the techniques in Hilbert space, the Fourier transform, and elliptic operator theory necessary to establish the spectral decomposition theorem of a self-adjoint operator of Laplace type and to prove the Hodge Decomposition Theorem that was stated without proof in Book II. In Chapter 18, we treat the de Rham complex and the Dolbeault complex, and discuss spinors. In Chapter 19, we discuss complex geometry and establish the Kodaira Embedding Theorem.

- Abstract
The intention of this collection agrees with the purposes of the homonymous mini-symposium (MS) at ICIAM-2019, which were to overview the essentials of geometric calculus (GC) formalism, to report on state-of-the-art applications showcasing its advantages and to explore the bearing of GC in novel approaches to deep learning. The first three contributions, which correspond to lectures at the MS, offer perspectives on recent advances in the application GC in the areas of robotics, molecular geometry, and medical imaging. The next three, especially invited, hone the expressiveness of GC in orientation measurements under different metrics, the treatment of contact elements, and the investigation of efficient computational methodologies. The last two, which also correspond to lectures at the MS, deal with two aspects of deep learning: a presentation of a concrete quaternionic convolutional neural network layer for image classification that features contrast invariance and a general overview of automatic learning aimed at steering the development of neural networks whose units process elements of a suitable algebra, such as a geometric algebra. The book fits, broadly speaking, within the realm of mathematical engineering, and consequently, it is intended for a wide spectrum of research profiles. In particular, it should bring inspiration and guidance to those looking for materials and problems that bridge GC with applications of great current interest, including the auspicious field of GC-based deep neural networks.

- Abstract
This book on counting statistics presents a novel copula-based approach to counting dependent random events. It combines clustering, combinatorics-based algorithms and dependence structure in order to tackle and simplify complex problems, without disregarding the hierarchy of or interconnections between the relevant variables. These problems typically arise in real-world applications and computations involving big data in finance, insurance and banking, where experts are confronted with counting variables in monitoring random events. In this new approach, combinatorial distributions of random events are the core element. In order to deal with the high-dimensional features of the problem, the combinatorial techniques are used together with a clustering approach, where groups of variables sharing common characteristics and similarities are identified and the dependence structure within groups is taken into account. The original problems can then be modeled using new classes of copulas, referred to here as clusterized copulas, which are essentially based on preliminary groupings of variables depending on suitable characteristics and hierarchical aspects. The book includes examples and real-world data applications, with a special focus on financial applications, where the new algorithms'performance is compared to alternative approaches and further analyzed. Given its scope, the book will be of interest to master students, PhD students and researchers whose work involves or can benefit from the innovative methodologies put forward here. It will also stimulate the empirical use of new approaches among professionals and practitioners in finance, insurance and banking.

- Abstract
A problem factory consists of a traditional mathematical analysis of a type of problem that describes many, ideally all, ways that the problems of that type can be cast in a fashion that allows teachers or parents to generate problems for enrichment exercises, tests, and classwork. Some problem factories are easier than others for a teacher or parent to apply, so we also include banks of example problems for users. This text goes through the definition of a problem factory in detail and works through many examples of problem factories. It gives banks of questions generated using each of the examples of problem factories, both the easy ones and the hard ones. This text looks at sequence extension problems (what number comes next?), basic analytic geometry, problems on whole numbers, diagrammatic representations of systems of equations, domino tiling puzzles, and puzzles based on combinatorial graphs. The final chapter previews other possible problem factories.

- Abstract
Uncertainty is an inseparable component of almost every measurement and occurrence when dealing with real-world problems. Finding solutions to real-life problems in an uncertain environment is a difficult and challenging task. As such, this book addresses the solution of uncertain static and dynamic problems based on affine arithmetic approaches. Affine arithmetic is one of the recent developments designed to handle such uncertainties in a different manner which may be useful for overcoming the dependency problem and may compute better enclosures of the solutions. Further, uncertain static and dynamic problems turn into interval and/or fuzzy linear/nonlinear systems of equations and eigenvalue problems, respectively. Accordingly, this book includes newly developed efficient methods to handle the said problems based on the affine and interval/fuzzy approach. Various illustrative examples concerning static and dynamic problems of structures have been investigated in order to showthe reliability and efficacy of the developed approaches.

- Abstract
This book collects peer-reviewed contributions on modern statistical methods and topics, stemming from the third workshop on Analytical Methods in Statistics, AMISTAT 2019, held in Liberec, Czech Republic, on September 16-19, 2019. Real-life problems demand statistical solutions, which in turn require new and profound mathematical methods. As such, the book is not only a collection of solved problems but also a source of new methods and their practical extensions. The authoritative contributions focus on analytical methods in statistics, asymptotics, estimation and Fisher information, robustness, stochastic models and inequalities, and other related fields; further, they address e.g. average autoregression quantiles, neural networks, weighted empirical minimum distance estimators, implied volatility surface estimation, the Grenander estimator, non-Gaussian component analysis, meta learning, and high-dimensional errors-in-variables models.

- Abstract
The subject of fractional calculus has gained considerable popularity and importance during the past three decades, mainly due to its validated applications in various fields of science and engineering. It is a generalization of ordinary differentiation and integration to arbitrary (non-integer) order. The fractional derivative has been used in various physical problems, such as frequency-dependent damping behavior of structures, biological systems, motion of a plate in a Newtonian fluid, λμ controller for the control of dynamical systems, and so on. It is challenging to obtain the solution (both analytical and numerical) of related nonlinear partial differential equations of fractional order. So for the last few decades, a great deal of attention has been directed towards the solution for these kind of problems. Different methods have been developed by other researchers to analyze the above problems with respect to crisp (exact) parameters. However, in real-lifeapplications such as for biological problems, it is not always possible to get exact values of the associated parameters due to errors in measurements/experiments, observations, and many other errors. Therefore, the associated parameters and variables may be considered uncertain. Here, the uncertainties are considered interval/fuzzy. Therefore, the development of appropriate efficient methods and their use in solving the mentioned uncertain problems are the recent challenge. In view of the above, this book is a new attempt to rigorously present a variety of fuzzy (and interval) time-fractional dynamical models with respect to different biological systems using computationally efficient method. The authors believe this book will be helpful to undergraduates, graduates, researchers, industry, faculties, and others throughout the globe.

- Abstract
This book gives a necessary and sufficient condition in terms of the scattering amplitude for a scatterer to be spherically symmetric. By a scatterer we mean a potential or an obstacle. It also gives necessary and sufficient conditions for a domain to be a ball if an overdetermined boundary problem for the Helmholtz equation in this domain is solvable. This includes a proof of Schiffer's conjecture, the solution to the Pompeiu problem, and other symmetry problems for partial differential equations. It goes on to study some other symmetry problems related to the potential theory. Among these is the problem of'invisible obstacles.'In Chapter 5, it provides a solution to the Navier‒Stokes problem in ℝ³. The author proves that this problem has a unique global solution if the data are smooth and decaying sufficiently fast. A new a priori estimate of the solution to the Navier‒Stokes problem is also included. Finally, it delivers a solution to inverse problem of the potential theory without the standard assumptions about star-shapeness of the homogeneous bodies.

- Abstract
This book provides an introduction to various aspects of Algebraic Statistics with the principal aim of supporting Master's and PhD students who wish to explore the algebraic point of view regarding recent developments in Statistics. The focus is on the background needed to explore the connections among discrete random variables. The main objects that encode these relations are multilinear matrices, i.e., tensors. The book aims to settle the basis of the correspondence between properties of tensors and their translation in Algebraic Geometry. It is divided into three parts, on Algebraic Statistics, Multilinear Algebra, and Algebraic Geometry. The primary purpose is to describe a bridge between the three theories, so that results and problems in one theory find a natural translation to the others. This task requires, from the statistical point of view, a rather unusual, but algebraically natural, presentation of random variables and their main classical features. The third part of the book can be considered as a short, almost self-contained, introduction to the basic concepts of algebraic varieties, which are part of the fundamental background for all who work in Algebraic Statistics.

- Abstract
The inverse obstacle scattering problem consists of finding the unknown surface of a body (obstacle) from the scattering (;;), where (;;) is the scattering amplitude, ; ² is the direction of the scattered, incident wave, respectively, ² is the unit sphere in the ℝ³ and k > 0 is the modulus of the wave vector. The scattering data is called non-over-determined if its dimensionality is the same as the one of the unknown object. By the dimensionality one understands the minimal number of variables of a function describing the data or an object. In an inverse obstacle scattering problem this number is 2, and an example of non-over-determined data is () := (;₀;₀). By sub-index 0 a fixed value of a variable is denoted. It is proved in this book that the data (), known for all in an open subset of ², determines uniquely the surface and the boundary condition on . This condition can be the Dirichlet, or the Neumann, or the impedance type. The above uniqueness theorem is of principal importance because the non-over-determined data are the minimal data determining uniquely the unknown . There were no such results in the literature, therefore the need for this book arose. This book contains a self-contained proof of the existence and uniqueness of the scattering solution for rough surfaces.
