Economic Dispatch Problems (EDP) refer to the process of determining the power output of generation units such that the electricity demand of the system is satisfied at a minimum cost while technical and operational constraints of the system are satisfied. This procedure is vital in the efficient energy management of electricity networks since it can ensure the reliable and efficient operation of power systems. As power systems transition from conventional to modern ones, new components and constraints are introduced to power systems, making the EDP increasingly complex. This highlights the importance of developing advanced optimization techniques that can efficiently handle these new complexities to ensure optimal operation and cost-effectiveness of power systems. This review paper provides a comprehensive exploration of the EDP, encompassing its mathematical formulation and the examination of commonly used problem formulation techniques, including single and multi-objective optimization methods. It also explores the progression of paradigms in economic dispatch, tracing the journey from traditional methods to contemporary strategies in power system management. The paper categorizes the commonly utilized techniques for solving EDP into four groups: conventional mathematical approaches, uncertainty modelling methods, artificial intelligence-driven techniques, and hybrid algorithms. It identifies critical research gaps, a predominant focus on single-case studies that limit the generalizability of findings, and the challenge of comparing research due to arbitrary system choices and formulation variations. This paper presents an improved arithmetic optimization algorithm that incorporates hybrid elite pool strategies to address the limitations of the arithmetic optimization algorithm (AOA). In AOA, the linear mathematical optimization acceleration (MOA) function cannot balance global exploitation and local exploration well. Therefore, the accuracy and convergence speed of the algorithm cannot be guaranteed. To improve the performance of AOA, this paper reconstructed a nonlinear MOA function, which is expected to balance the exploitation and the exploration of AOA. Furthermore, four hybrid elite pool strategies are integrated to enhance the ability to escape local optima. The proposed algorithm inherits the fast convergence of AOA and develops the performance of escaping local optima. Numerical experiment results on benchmark functions and engineering problems show that the proposed algorithm outperforms other compared meta-heuristic algorithms in terms of convergence speed and accuracy. The domain of material science has made great strides in recent years, especially in the fields of metallurgy and ceramic materials and the production of highly trustworthy, cost-effective and economically useful components for use in many industries. For the production of contours and intricate forms in conductive materials, Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) is by far the most versatile and cost-effective alternative to standard machining processes. In-depth discussion and analysis of the following topics may be found throughout this review paper study. Surface topography and machining properties are investigated in this literature review to determine the impact of mechanical, chemical, electrochemical, and thermal material removal techniques. Different characteristics of dielectric mediums are also covered. Non-conductive and conductive ceramic composite performance characteristics, surfacetexture, mechanical and electrical qualities and geometrical tolerances are investigated as a function of electrode material. Through the perspective of composite materials, a variety of electrical discharge devices' performance metrics and properties are compared and contrasted. The performance metrics and characteristics of a wide variety of electrical discharge machines are compared and contrasted in light of the composite materials in order to identify their distinguishing characteristics. EDM research is being conducted on a variety of sophisticated conductive materials, to explore their unpredictable effects on EDM and their specialized applications. Methods for optimizing the study of composite material and their effects on EDM's numerous aspects include Design of Experiments, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Response Surface Methodology, Taguchi with Grey Relational Analysis, and so on. Tunicate Swarm Algorithm (TSA) is a new bio-based optimization technique that has proven not only to be able to compete with other methods but has also shown successful performance in classic design engineering problems/benchmark test problems. However, like some population-based methods, TSA tends to be trapped in local optima, converging to global optima in a long time, unbalanced exploitation/exploration, and the inability to effectively solve high-capacity engineering problems. In this paper, the M-TSA, which is a Modified version of the TSA, is proposed to overcome such problems. M-TSA was developed in three steps. The first is the new movement strategy that improves the movement of tunicates with a spiral movement, the second is the new herd strategy that improves the herd movement of tunics with the Levy movement, and the third is the consideration of the FAD effect. In this study, the efficiency and robustness of the M-TSA algorithm is tested on the CEC'17 test suite, six real-life design engineering problems, and two complex power system engineering problems. The test results were compared with other techniques reported in the literature and with the original TSA. Comparing the results from the M-TSA technique with other techniques proves the effectiveness of M-TSA with better exploration/exploitation balance and optimal solution finding. The mathematical side of applied problems in multiple subject areas (biology, pattern recognition, etc.) is reduced to the problem of discrete optimization in the following mathematical method. We were provided a network and graphs in its leaves, for which we needed to find a rearrangement of graphs by non-leaf nodes, in which the given functional reached its minimum. Such a problem, even in the simplest case, is NP-hard, which means unavoidable restrictions on the network, on graphs, or on the functional. In this publication, this problem is addressed in the case of all graphs being so-called "structures", meaning directed-loaded graphs consisting of paths and cycles, and the functional as the sum (over all edges in the network) of distances between structures at the endpoints of every edge. The distance itself is equal to the minimal length of sequence from the fixed list of operations, the composition of which transforms the structure at one endpoint of the edge into the structure at its other endpoint. The list of operations (and their costs) on such a graph is fixed. Under these conditions, the given discrete optimization problem is called the reconstruction problem. This paper presents novel algorithms for solving the reconstruction problem, along with full proofs of their low error and low polynomial complexity. For example, for the network, the problem is solved with a zero error algorithm that has a linear polynomial computational complexity; and for the tree the problem is solved using an algorithm with a multiplicative error of at most two, which has a second order polynomial computational complexity. This paper is concerned with the design of a dual-loop control system for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). An improved linear extended state observer (LESO) with excellent estimation capability is employed to develop an improved linear active disturbance rejection control (LADRC) suitable for PMSM speed regulation, achieving outstanding disturbance suppression in PMSM speed control. The use of an internal model control scheme to initialize the parameters of the proportional-integral- (PI-) based current controller simplifies the search space of the control system parameter optimization. An improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is applied to optimize the controller parameters, thereby enhancing the overall system performance. Sixth-generation wireless systems not only have more demanding communication requirements, they are also expected to have high-precision sensing capabilities and sufficient computing power. Integrated sensing, communication, and computation (ISCC) can meet the above system requirements and save spectrum resources. In this paper, we build a resource allocation and offloading decision problem in an ISCC scenario that makes considerations for user mobility and partial offloading policies. The established problem minimizes the average task cost when given constraints such as the typical sensing failure rate and task completion delay. We use Lyapunov optimization theory to transform the proposed problem and propose a two-level optimization algorithm based on matching theory to offer a solution for the transformed problem. The inner layer obtains the task offloading ratio through theoretical derivation, and the outer layer determines the base station access and channel assignment based on the inner layer results. Abstract: In this paper, we focus on the proposed algorithms to solve a linear programming problem with the convex combination of the max–min and the max–average composition and the max–star composition, respectively. They have been proposed by Ghodousian and Khorram [A. Ghodousian, E. Khorram, Solving a linear programming problem with the convex combination of the max–min and the max–average fuzzy relation equations, Appl. Math. Comput. 180 (2006) 411–418] and Khorram et al. [E. Khorram, A. Ghodousian, A. Abbasi Molai, Solving linear optimization problems with max–star composition equation constraints, Appl. Math. Comput. 179 (2006) 654–661], respectively. Firstly, we show that the “Tabular method algorithm” in the first paper and the “First procedure” in the second paper may not lead to the optimal solutions of the two models in some cases. Secondly, we generalize the proposed algorithm by Abbasi Molai and Khorram [A. Abbasi Molai, E. Khorram, A modified algorithm for solving the proposed models by Ghodousian and Khorram and Khorram and Ghodousian, Appl. Math. Comput. 190 (2007) 1161–1167] to solve the two models. SUMMARY The present study deals with a comprehensive thermodynamic modeling of a combined heat and power (CHP) system in a paper mill, which provides 50 MW of electric power and 100 ton h−1 saturated steam at 13 bars. This CHP plant is composed of air compressor, combustion chamber (CC), Air Preheater, Gas Turbine (GT) and a Heat Recovery Heat Exchanger. The design parameters of this cycle are compressor pressure ratio ( rAC), compressor isentropic efficiency ( ηAC), GT isentropic efficiency ( ηGT), CC inlet temperature ( T3), and turbine inlet temperature ( T4). In the multi-objective optimization three objective functions, including CHP exergy efficiency, total cost rate of the system products, and CO2 emission of the whole plant, are considered. The exergoenvironmental objective function is minimized whereas power plant exergy efficiency is maximized using a Genetic algorithm. To have a good insight into this study, a sensitivity analysis of the results to the interest rate as well as fuel cost is performed. The results show that at the lower exergetic efficiency, in which the weight of exergoenvironmental objective is higher, the sensitivity of the optimal solutions to the fuel cost is much higher than the location of the Pareto Frontier with the lower weight of exergoenvironmental objective. In addition, with increasing exergy efficiency, the purchase cost of equipment in the plant is increased as the cost rate of the plant increases. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Among the ready-to-implement quantum algorithms, Variational Quantum Circuits (VQCs) play a key role in several applications, including machine learning. Their strength lies in the use of a parameterized quantum circuit that is trained by means of an optimization algorithm run on a classical computer. In such a scenario, there is a strong need to design appropriate classical optimization schemes that deal efficiently with VQCs and pave the way for quantum advantage in machine learning. Among possible optimization schemes, those based on evolutionary computation are finding increasing interest, given the unconventional and nonanalytical nature of the problem to be solved. This paper proposes to apply memetic algorithms to train VQCs used as quantum classifiers and shows the benefits of exploiting this evolutionary optimization technique through a comparative experimental session. The convergence rate has been widely accepted as a performance measure for choosing a better metaheuristic algorithm. So, we propose a novel technique to improve the performance of the existing Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) algorithm in terms of its convergence rate. The proposed approach also prioritizes the test cases that are obtained after executing the input benchmark programs. This paper has three technical contributions. In our first contribution, we generate test cases for the input benchmark programs. Our second contribution prioritizes test cases using an improved version of the existing GWO algorithm (CGWO). Our third contribution analyzes the obtained result and compares it with state-of-the-art metaheuristic techniques. This work is validated after running the proposed model on six benchmark programs. The obtained results show that our proposed approach has achieved 48% better APFD score for the prioritized order of test cases than the non-prioritized order. In large-scale multi-objective optimization problems (LSMOPs), multiple conflicting objectives and hundreds even thousands of decision variables are contained. Therefore, it is a great challenge to address LSMOPs due to the curse of dimensionality. To tackle LSMOPs, this paper proposes a resource allocation-based multi-objective optimization evolutionary algorithm. In the proposed algorithm, decision variables are firstly divided into convergence-related variables and diversity-related variables by the proposed layer thickness-based variable classification (LTVC) method. Then, a resource allocation-based convergence optimization strategy is introduced for the convergence-related variables, which can allocate more computational resource to the sub-component with the best contribution. For the diversity-related variables, diversity optimization technique is adopted. Aquila optimizer (AO) is an efficient meta-heuristic optimization method, which mimics the hunting style of Aquila in nature. However, the AO algorithm may suffer from immature convergence during the exploitation stage. In this paper, two strategies are elegantly employed into conventional AO, such as random opposition-based learning and nonlinear flexible jumping factor, which can efficiently enhance the performance of conventional AO. Experiments on 1 7 benchmark functions and image segmentation demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. The integration of demand response programs (DRPs) into the energy management (EM) system of microgrids (MGs) helps in improving the load characteristics by allowing consumers to interoperate for achieving techno-economic advantages. In this paper, an improved algorithm is called LINFO is proposed for modifying search ability of the original weIghted meaN oF vectOrs (INFO) algorithm as well as avoiding its weaknesses like trapping in a local optima. The improved algorithm's efficiency is confirmed by comparing its results with those obtained by the original INFO and other optimization techniques using different standard benchmark test functions. Moreover, this improved algorithm and the original version are applied for solving the EM problem with the aim of optimizing the operation cost of the MGs in the presence DRPs. They are used to solve day-ahead EM problem for optimal operation of renewable energy resources, the optimal generation from a conventional diesel engines (DEs); taking into account the participation of customers in DRP for minimizing MG operating cost, which includes the cost of DEs fuel and the power transactions cost with the main grid. A wireless sensor network (WSN) consists of an extensive number of low-power sensor nodes to gather information from their environment and monitor physical activities. This makes node localization a crucial aspect in most WSN applications since measurement data is worthless unless the location from where the data is acquired is known precisely. The majority of localization solutions rely on anchor nodes for estimating the node locations with different localization accuracy, complexity, and hence different applicability. But, the cost and complexity in the localization of large-scale WSNs are not significantly reduced. In this paper, a novel Hybridized Dragonfly and Jaya Optimization technique (HyDAJ) is introduced for improving localization accuracy and performance of mobile WSNs. The proposed hybrid technique combines the advantages of Dragonfly algorithm and Jaya algorithm to localize the sensor nodes in a more efficient way and overcomes the limitations of the original algorithm. The hybrid algorithm verifies that all target nodes are precisely localized with higher accuracy. Simulation results reveal that HyDAJ outperforms existing methods under multiple metrics including localization efficiency, mean localization error, computation time, and energy consumption. Summary: Multi‐user multiple‐input multiple‐output (MU‐MIMO) system has the capability of delivering optimal system capacity that provides the simultaneous service to a large number of users using dirty paper coding (DPC) scheme. However, the DPC scheme is quite difficult to be implemented in the real‐time scenario as the computational complexity is very high and the process cannot be accomplished within the duration of few coherence periods. In this paper, we have adopted a newly developed binary spider monkey optimization (binary SMO) algorithm for the joint user and antenna scheduling (JUAS) problem to maximize the achievable system sum‐rate performance. It has been shown that JUAS with binary SMO achieves nearly 99% of system throughput achieved by the extensive search algorithm (ESA) using DPC. Also it is compared with binary flower pollination algorithm (binary FPA) to check which of the two gives better result. It is observed that the binary SMO in JUAS achieves a globally optimal solution quite rapidly, to remain well within the modern‐day packet data communication interval. The proposed binary SMO shows low computational complexity and computation time as compared to ESA (i.e., DPC). Also when it is compared with binary FPA, it shows quite a significant improvement in system throughput. When the meta-heuristic algorithm solves the joint resource allocation problem of multi-beam satellites, the computational complexity increases and the algorithm is difficult to converge due to the time delay constraint and capacity constraint. This paper introduced a penalty mechanism in the objective function, and added a penalty value to the objective function of the invalid solution, so that the optimized solution adaptively satisfied these two constraints. Based on this, this paper proposed a joint resource allocation algorithm based on quantum-behaved particle swarm optimization. Simulation results show that the introduction of the penalty strategy solves the problem of difficulty in handling the delay constraint and capacity constraint when applying the meta-heuristic algorithm. The quantum-behaved particle swarm optimization algorithm with penalty mechanism outperforms the existing joint allocation algorithm in terms of allocation fairness index and total system capacity. Clean and renewable energy is the only way to achieve sustainable energy development, with considerable social and economic benefits. As a key technology for clean and renewable energy, it is very important to research the reliability optimization of microgrids. This paper reviews the research progress in microgrid reliability optimization. This paper first classifies and summarizes the existing research on microgrid control strategies and reliability assessment. Then, the system reliability optimization framework is summarized in terms of both microgrid systems and optimization objectives. Next, we summarize the most commonly used optimization algorithms for microgrid reliability for different microgrid systems. Finally, we provide a bibliometric analysis of the literature on the reliability research of microgrids. This paper considers the physical-layer security of information transmission in an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) multi-user communication system, where a UAV communicates with multiple users on the ground, with the presence of an eavesdropper on the ground trying to intercept the confidential information sent from the UAV to the users. The channels between the UAV and all ground nodes are modeled as more accurate probabilistic LoS (line-of-sight) channels. This paper studies maximizing the minimum average secrecy rate of all users by jointly designing the three-dimensional (3D) trajectory of the UAV and the user scheduling, under the constraints of UAV fight conditions and the discrete user scheduling parameters. To solve the optimization design problem for the UAV secure communication system under the probabilistic LoS channel model, it first decoupled it into three sub-problem, then solved the three sub-problems one by one, by using the integer relaxation and successive convex approximation methods, and finally obtained the 3D flight trajectory of UAV by using the block coordinate descent method. Based on the instantaneous channel state information obtained during the UAV’s flight, it further proposed a real-time optimization algorithm for UAV speed and user scheduling. This algorithm formulated the optimization problem into a linear programming problem and solved it by using the interior point method. Simulation results show that compared to the existing benchmark algorithms, the trajectory optimization of UAV based on the probabilistic LoS channel model can significantly improve the secrecy rate of the system, and the proposed real-time optimization algorithm for speed and user scheduling can further improve the secrecy rate performance. To improve the local mining and global search ability of quantum-behaved particle swarm optimization algorithm ( QPSO), this paper proposed an improved QPSO algorithm( DSQPSO). DSQPSO algorithm introduced the double strategies co-evolution to adjust the particle position update formula. Firstly, in order to fully reflect the advantage of individual exploration and the characteristic of collective guidance, this paper put forward two kinds of ideas of attraction points to achieve better integration of individuals and the swarm as well as information exchange. Secondly, it redefined the search scope of the particle through considering the relationship between the optimal average position and the global optimum and individual's historical optimum respectively. Moreover, in the iterative process, DSQPSO used the random perturbation mechanism to adjust the global optimal position in order to help the diversity of the swarm to be preserved. Based on 18 test functions, this paper compared DSQPSO with PSO, QPSO, RQPSO and LQPSO in convergence accuracy and robustness. Furthermore, in terms of the optimization results, it compared the improved algorithm with eight intelligent algorithms on two practical engineering optimization problems. Aiming at the problems that the sparrow search algorithm (SSA) is prone to fall into local optimum and the optimization accuracy is low in the optimization process, this paper proposed a hybrid strategy improved sparrow search algorithm (MSSA). Firstly, in order to enable individual sparrows to fully search in the search space and increase the accuracy of algorithm optimization, it introduced an archiving stage in the algorithm optimization process to receive the residual position information that might be captured by sparrow producers when they moved to the safe area. Secondly, in the iterative process of the algorithm, it performed an adaptive neighborhood search operation on the current optimal individual, and fully explored the location information around the high-quality individual to enhance the algorithm's ability to jump out of the local optimum. This paper used 9 benchmark functions to evaluate the MSSA with SSA, and other four improved SSA, which were chaotic sparrow search optimization algorithm (CSSOA), mixed strategy improved sparrow search algorithm (MSSSA), improved sparrow search algorithm(ISSA), and enhanced sparrow search algorithm (ESSA). Experiment result illustrates that MSSA can achieve better convergence accuracy and stability on nearly 80% of the benchmark functions, and MSSA is also ranked first in the Friedman test. This paper also applied MSSA to optimize wireless sensor network( WSN) coverage in an obstacle environment. The pursuit of achieving total power network observability in smart grids using Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) carries a significant promise of real-time Wide-Area Monitoring, Protection, and Control (WAMPAC). PMU applications eliminate periodical measurements, thereby increasing accuracy through a high sampling rate of the measured power systems quantities. The high costs of installation of PMUs for total power system observability presents a challenge in the implementation of PMUs. This is due to the expensive costs of PMU devices. This has led to a prominent optimal PMU placement (OPP) problem that researchers tirelessly aim to solve by ensuring a complete power network observability while using the least installed PMU devices possible. In this paper, a novel Binary Firefly Algorithm (BFA) based on the node degree centrality scores of each bus is proposed to minimize PMU installations. The BFA solves the OPP problem in consideration of the effect of Zero Injection Buses (ZIBs) under normal operation and single PMU outage (SPO). There is a trend to deploy neural network on edge devices in recent years. While the mainstream of research often concerns with single edge device processing and edge-cloud two-layer neural network collaborative computing, in this paper, we propose partitioning multi-layer edge network for neural network collaborative computing. With the proposed method, sub-models of neural network are deployed on multi-layer edge devices along the communication path from end users to cloud. Firstly, we propose an optimal path selection method to form a neural network collaborative computing path with lowest communication overhead. Secondly, we establish a time-delay optimization mathematical model to evaluate the effects of different partitioning solutions. To find the optimal partition solution, an ordered elitist genetic algorithm (OEGA) is proposed. The experimental results show that, compared with traditional cloud computing, single-device edge computing and edge-cloud collaborative computing, the proposed multi-layer edge network collaborative computing has a smaller runtime delay with limited bandwidth resources, and because of the pipeline computing characteristics, the proposed method has a better response speed when processing large number of requests. Meanwhile, the OEGA algorithm has better performance than conventional methods, and the optimized partitioning method outperforms other methods like random and evenly partition. In this paper, a heuristic approach to doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) protection and low voltage ride through (LVRT) is carried out. DFIG-based wind systems are rapidly penetrating the power generation section. Despite their advantages, their direct coupling grid makes them highly sensitive to symmetrical faults. A well-known solution to this is the crowbar method of DFIG protection. This paper provides a method to determine the optimal crowbar resistance value, to ensure a strong trade-off between the rotor current and DC voltage transients. Further, since the crowbar method requires disconnection from the grid, the linear quadratic regulator (LQR) is applied to the system. This is to ensure fault ride through compliance with recent grid code requirements. The well-known PSO, as well as the recently developed African vultures optimization algorithm (AVOA), was applied to the problem. The first set of results show that for severe symmetrical voltage dips, the AVOA provides a good option for crowbar magnitude optimization, whereas PSO performed better for moderately severe dips. Secondly, when the LQR was optimized via the AVOA, it exhibited superiority over the conventional PSO-based PI controller. This superiority was in terms of rotor current transient magnitude, DC voltage transient magnitude, and reactive power steady-state ripple and were in the order of 67.5%, 20.35%, and 37.55%, respectively. When comparing the crowbar method and the LQR, it was observed that despite the LQR exhibiting superiority in terms of transient performance, the crowbar method offered a unanimously superior settling time. Unconstrained continuous large-scale global optimization (LSGO) is still a challenging task for a wide range of modern metaheuristic approaches. A cooperative coevolution approach is a good tool for increasing the performance of an evolutionary algorithm in solving high-dimensional optimization problems. However, the performance of cooperative coevolution approaches for LSGO depends significantly on the problem decomposition, namely, on the number of subcomponents and on how variables are grouped in these subcomponents. Also, the choice of the population size is still an open question for population-based algorithms. This paper discusses a method for selecting the number of subcomponents and the population size during the optimization process ("on fly") from a predefined pool of parameters. The selection of the parameters is based on their performance in the previous optimization steps. The main goal of the study is the improvement of coevolutionary decomposition-based algorithms for solving LSGO problems. In this paper, we propose a novel self-adapt evolutionary algorithm for solving continuous LSGO problems. We have tested this algorithm on 15 optimization problems from the IEEE LSGO CEC'2013 benchmark suite. The main objective of this paper is to present an improved neural network algorithm (INNA) for solving the reliability-redundancy allocation problem (RRAP) with nonlinear resource constraints. In this RRAP, both the component reliability and the redundancy allocation are to be considered simultaneously. Neural network algorithm (NNA) is one of the newest and efficient swarm optimization algorithms having a strong global search ability that is very adequate in solving different kinds of complex optimization problems. Despite its efficiency, NNA experiences poor exploitation, which causes slow convergence and also restricts its practical application of solving optimization problems. Considering this deficiency and to obtain a better balance between exploration and exploitation, searching procedure for NNA is reconstructed by implementing a new logarithmic spiral search operator and the searching strategy of the learner phase of teaching–learning-based optimization (TLBO) and an improved NNA has been developed in this paper. To demonstrate the performance of INNA, it is evaluated against seven well-known reliability optimization problems and finally compared with other existing meta-heuristics algorithms. Additionally, the INNA results are statistically investigated with the Wilcoxon sign-rank test and Multiple comparison test to show the significance of the results. To solve the problems of low convergence accuracy, slow convergence speed and easy to fall into local optimum of traditional particle swarm algorithm, this paper proposed an improved particle swarm algorithm with multistrategy fusion. Firstly, in order to accelerate the convergence speed of free particles, the improved algorithm used a method of updating the position of free particles based on the midperpendicular algorithm. secondly, the improved algorithm designed a strategy of generating exploding particles near the optimal particles to enhance the optimizationseeking accuracy and optimization-seeking speed of the algorithm, and the improved algorithm also designed a particle velocity updating strategy relying only on the global optimal particle position to accommodate the first two strategies. Large-scale numerical optimization problems arise from many fields and have applications in both industrial and academic contexts. Finding solutions to such optimization problems efficiently requires algorithms that are able to leverage the increasing parallelism available in modern computing hardware. In this paper, we review previous work on parallelizing algorithms for nonlinear optimization. To introduce the topic, the paper starts by giving an accessible introduction to nonlinear optimization and high-performance computing. This is followed by a survey of previous work on parallelization and utilization of high-performance computing hardware for nonlinear optimization algorithms. Finally, we present a number of optimization software libraries and how they are able to utilize parallel computing today. This study can serve as an introduction point for researchers interested in nonlinear optimization or high-performance computing, as well as provide ideas and inspiration for future work combining these topics. This paper presents an efficient method to improve the far-field radiation pattern of concentric circular antenna array (CCAA) design using two stochastic optimization algorithms known as social spider algorithm (SSA) and modified social spider algorithm (MSSA). Low side lobe level (SLL) plays a crucial role in reducing the interference with the other frequency components along the entire side lobes of the far-field radiation pattern. SSA and MSAA are the state-of-the-art evolutionary optimization techniques which are applied here to determine the optimal current amplitude and the inter-element distance between two consecutive antennae of the 3-ring CCAA. In this paper, the optimal results achieved by using SSA, MSSA for (4, 6, 8) elements and (8, 10, 12) elements 3-ring CCAAs, with and without centre elements are reported. This article considers a box-constrained global optimization problem for Lipschitz continuous functions with an unknown Lipschitz constant. The well-known derivative-free global search algorithm DIRECT (DIvide RECTangle) is a promising approach for such problems. Several studies have shown that recent two-step (global and local) Pareto selection-based algorithms are very efficient among all DIRECT-type approaches. However, despite its encouraging performance, it was also observed that the candidate selection procedure has two possible shortcomings. First, there is no limit on how small the size of selected candidates can be. Secondly, a balancing strategy between global and local candidate selection is missing. Therefore, it may waste function evaluations by over-exploring the current local minimum and delaying finding the global one. This paper reviews and employs different strategies in a two-step Pareto selection framework (1-DTC-GL) to overcome these limitations. A detailed experimental study has revealed that existing strategies do not always improve and sometimes even worsen results. Since 1-DTC-GL is a DIRECT-type algorithm, the results of this paper provide general guidance for all DIRECT-type algorithms on how to deal with excessive local refinement more efficiently. This paper presents the data description of the African buffalo optimization algorithm (ABO). ABO is a recently-designed optimization algorithm that is inspired by the migrant behaviour of African buffalos in the vast African landscape. Organizing their large herds that could be over a thousand buffalos using just two principal sounds, the /maaa/ and the /waaa/ calls present a good foundation for the development of an optimization algorithm. Since elaborate descriptions of the manual workings of optimization algorithms are rare in literature, this paper aims at solving this problem, hence it is our main contribution. It is our belief that elaborate manual description of the workings of optimization algorithms make it user-friendly and encourage reproducibility of the experimental procedures performed using this algorithm. Again, our ability to describe the algorithm's basic flow, stochastic and data generation processes in a language so simple that any non-expert can appreciate and use as well as the practical implementation of the popular benchmark Rosenbrock and Shekel Foxhole functions with the novel algorithm will assist the research community in benefiting maximally from the contributions of this novel algorithm. Considering that in the process of job scheduling, the cluster load should be prebalanced rather than remedied when the load is seriously unbalanced; therefore, in this paper, the task scheduling flow of the Hadoop cluster is analyzed deeply. On the Hadoop platform, a self-dividing algorithm is proposed for load balancing. An intelligent optimization algorithm is used to solve load balance. A dynamic feedback load balancing scheduling method is proposed from the point of view of task scheduling. In order to solve the shortcoming of the fair scheduling algorithm, this paper proposes two ways to improve the resource utilization and overall performance of Hadoop. When the mapping task is completed and the tasks to be reduced are assigned, the task assignment is based on the performance of the nodes to be reduced. It gives full play to the advantages of the ant colony algorithm and the hive colony algorithm so that the fusion algorithm can better deal with load balance. Then, three existing scheduling algorithms are introduced in detail: single queue scheduling, capacity scheduling, and fair scheduling. On this basis, an improved task scheduling strategy based on genetic algorithm is proposed to allocate and execute application tasks to reduce task completion time. Human facial analysis (HFA) has recently become an attractive topic for computer vision research due to technological progress and mobile applications. HFA explores several issues as gender recognition (GR), facial expression, age, and race recognition for automatically understanding social life. This study explores HFA from the angle of recognizing a person's gender from their face. Several hard challenges are provoked, such as illumination, occlusion, facial emotions, quality, and angle of capture by cameras, making gender recognition more difficult for machines. The Archimedes optimization algorithm (AOA) was recently designed as a metaheuristic-based population optimization method, inspired by the Archimedes theory's physical notion. Compared to other swarm algorithms in the realm of optimization, this method promotes a good balance between exploration and exploitation. The convergence area is increased By incorporating extra data into the solution, such as volume and density. Because of the preceding benefits of AOA and the fact that it has not been used to choose the best area of the face, we propose utilizing a wrapper feature selection technique, which is a real motivation in the field of computer vision and machine learning. The paper's primary purpose is to automatically determine the optimal face area using AOA to recognize the gender of a human person categorized by two classes (Men and women). In this paper, the facial image is divided into several subregions (blocks), where each area provides a vector of characteristics using one method from handcrafted techniques as the local binary pattern (LBP), histogram-oriented gradient (HOG), or gray-level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM). Two experiments assess the proposed method (AOA): The first employs two benchmarking datasets: the Georgia Tech Face dataset (GT) and the Brazilian FEI dataset. The second experiment represents a more challenging large dataset that uses Gallagher's uncontrolled dataset. The experimental results show the good performance of AOA compared to other recent and competitive optimizers for all datasets. Based on the theory and application, this paper discusses the optimization of art image segmentation algorithm based on FFNN (Feed Forward Neural Network). In this paper, residual units are used in the corresponding stages of encoder and decoder, and feature information of several convolution layers in each convolution stage of encoder is extracted at the same time. And the feature pyramid module is used to extract multiscale features from the feature map of the last convolution stage in the encoder. Finally, pixel by pixel additions combine the previously mentioned feature information into the corresponding layer of the decoder. Additionally, an improved weight adaptive algorithm based on feature preservation is suggested in this paper, which addresses the issue that the conventional image segmentation algorithm is noise-sensitive. The adaptive connection weight mechanism is also introduced. The accuracy and recall rates of this optimization algorithm can both reach 96.574%, according to the results of 50% cross-validation. All the segmentation performance evaluation indexes of this algorithm are higher than the existing main algorithms. Moreover, the algorithm takes a short time, does not need too much manual intervention, and can effectively segment artistic images. In this paper, a new Modified Meta-Heuristic algorithm is proposed. This method contains some modifications to improve the performance of the simulated-annealing algorithm (SA). Most authors who deal with improving the SA algorithm presented some improvements and modifications to one or more of the five standard features of the SA algorithm. In this paper, we improve the SA algorithm by presenting some suggestions and modifications to all five standard features of the SA algorithm. Through these suggestions and modifications, we obtained a new algorithm that finds the approximate solution to the global minimum of a non-convex function. The new algorithm contains novel parameters, which are updated at each iteration. Therefore, the variety and alternatives in choosing these parameters demonstrated a noticeable impact on the performance of the proposed algorithm. Furthermore, it has multiple formulas by which the candidate solutions are generated. Diversity in these formulas helped the proposed algorithm to escape a local point while finding the global minimizer of a non-convex function. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm is reported through extensive numerical experiments on some well-known test problems. The performance profiles are used to evaluate and compare the performance of our proposed algorithm against the other five meta-heuristic algorithms. The comparison results between the performance of our suggested algorithm and the other five algorithms indicate that the proposed algorithm is competitive with, and in all cases superior to, the five algorithms in terms of the efficiency, reliability, and effectiveness for finding the global minimizers of non-convex functions. Classic flower pollination algorithm（FPA） can be easily exposed to the shortcomings of local optimal solution and slow convergence velocity. In view of these shortcomings, this paper proposed an FPA with an enhanced lens imaging strategy and random neighborhood-based mutation strategy. The lens imaging strategy can help the algorithm avoid the shortcoming of local optimal solution by expanding the search space of FPA to increase the diversity of the solution. The introduction of random neighborhood-based mutation strategy can enhance the convergence accuracy and search speed of the algorithm by guiding algorithm search with information in the neighborhood. A comparison of the improved FPA with four other improved algorithms on CEC2013 test function found that the improved multi-strategy FPA performs better than the comparison algorithms in both convergence accuracy and search speed. To study its practical utility, this paper applies the multi-strategy FPA into the automobile transmission parameter model and the results indicate that multi-strategy FPA is better than the comparison algorithm in optimization of automobile transmission parameters. With the increasingly widespread application of UAV intelligence, the need for autonomous navigation and positioning is becoming more and more important. To solve the problem that UAV cannot perform localization in complex scenes, a new multi-source fusion framework factor graph optimization algorithm is used for UAV localization state estimation in this paper, which is based on IMU/GNSS/VO multi-source sensors. Based on the factor graph model and the iSAM incremental inference algorithm, a multi-source fusion model of IMU/GNSS/VO is established, including the IMU pre-integration factor, IMU bias factor, GNSS factor, and VO factor. Mathematical simulations and validations on the EuRoC dataset show that, when the selected sliding window size is 30, the factor graph optimization (FGO) algorithm can not only meet the requirements of real time and accuracy at the same time, but it also achieves a plug-and-play function in the event of local sensor failures. Finally, compared with the traditional federated Kalman algorithm and the adaptive federated Kalman algorithm, the positioning accuracy of the FGO algorithm in this paper is improved by 1.5–2-fold, and can effectively improve autonomous navigation system robustness and flexibility in complex scenarios. The accurate model of the solar PV system is the principal organ that describes the performance of this resource. Several approaches based on optimizing algorithms were considered valuable tools to illustrate the I–V curve for improving the photovoltaic models. Their electrical parameters are estimated using optimization algorithms referring to the experimental database or manufacturer's datasheet. This paper proposes a novel developed a photovoltaic model based on improved arithmetic optimization algorithm (IAOA) to extract the solar cell parameters. Also, an experimental test bench is presented for obtaining the measured illustration of the I–V characteristics. Thus, the root mean square error value that describes the difference between measured and estimated results is considered the objective function for two different models, the simple-diode model and the one-diode model. The proposed IAOA results are compared with other research papers and optimization algorithms. Furthermore, the evaluation of the proposed IAOA has been discussed considering several statistical analysis tests. The presented results show that the effectiveness and accuracy of IAOA results are excellent, and their I–V characteristics coincide with experimental data. This paper considers a stochastic optimization problem over the fixed point sets of quasinonexpansive mappings on Riemannian manifolds. The problem enables us to consider Riemannian hierarchical optimization problems over complicated sets, such as the intersection of many closed convex sets, the set of all minimizers of a nonsmooth convex function, and the intersection of sublevel sets of nonsmooth convex functions. We focus on adaptive learning rate optimization algorithms, which adapt step-sizes (referred to as learning rates in the machine learning field) to find optimal solutions quickly. We then propose a Riemannian stochastic fixed point optimization algorithm, which combines fixed point approximation methods on Riemannian manifolds with the adaptive learning rate optimization algorithms. We also give convergence analyses of the proposed algorithm for nonsmooth convex and smooth nonconvex optimization. The analysis results indicate that, with small constant step-sizes, the proposed algorithm approximates a solution to the problem. Consideration of the case in which step-size sequences are diminishing demonstrates that the proposed algorithm solves the problem with a guaranteed convergence rate. This paper also provides numerical comparisons that demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms with formulas based on the adaptive learning rate optimization algorithms, such as Adam and AMSGrad. In edge computing, application components can be placed over a range of computational devices from cloud data centers to nodes at the network edge. Application placement can have significant impact on important metrics like latency and resource utilization. Thus, application placement is an important optimization problem. In edge computing, the characteristics of both the infrastructure and the application may change over time, which may require the dynamic re-optimization of the application placement. Most algorithms suggested so far for the dynamic re-optimization of edge application placement are centralized, i.e., they rely on one entity collecting information from the whole infrastructure and making decisions centrally. However, centralized approaches suffer from limited scalability and are vulnerable to failures. In this paper, we present a decentralized approach for the dynamic re-optimization of edge application placement. We adopt an algorithm of Malek et al. for distributed systems and modify it to make it applicable to edge computing. In this approach, each node makes decisions autonomously, using auctions for coordination. Our empirical results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is very effective in optimizing edge application placement. Summary: Distributed optimization algorithms have various advantages and wide applications, while the distributed nature also makes them flimsy in the face of external attacks. In this paper two Byzantine attack models are designed, in which the edge attack model is seldom considered before. A resilient distributed consensus algorithm based on the trusted nodes and edges is proposed to defend against the two attack models. The agreement and optimality of the proposed consensus algorithm are guaranteed with theoretical analysis.
