This book provides novel concepts and techniques for air traffic management (ATM) and communications, navigation, and surveillance (CNS) systems. The book consists of selected papers from the 6th ENRI International Workshop on ATM/CNS (EIWAC2019) held in Tokyo in October 2019, the theme of which was “Exploring Ideas for World Aviation Challenges”. Included are key topics to realize safer and more efficient skies in the future, linked to the integrated conference theme consisting of long-term visions based on presentations from various fields. The book is dedicated not only to researchers, academicians, and university students, but also to engineers in the industry, air navigation service providers (ANSPs), and regulators of aviation.

This volume comprises a selection of papers presented at the first International C- ference on Mathematics and Computation in Music – mcm2007. The conference took place at the Staatliches Institut für Musikforschung PK – National Institute for Music Research in Berlin during May 18–20, 2007 and was jointly organized by the National Institute for Music Research Berlin and the Society of Mathematics and Computation in Music. The papers were selected for the conference by the program committee and classfied into talks and posters. All papers underwent further selection, revision and elaboration for this book publication. The articles cover a research field which is heterogeneous with respect to content, scientific language and methodology. On one hand, this reflects the heterogeneity and richness of the musical subject domain itself. On the other hand, it exemplifies a t- sion which has been explicitly intended by both the organizers and the founders of the society, namely to support the integration of mathematical and computational - proaches to music theory, composition, analysis and performance. The subdivision into three parts reflects the original structure of the program. These parts are opened by invited papers and followed by talks and posters.

This book reports on advanced theories and cutting-edge applications in the field of soft computing. The individual chapters, written by leading researchers, are based on contributions presented during the 4th World Conference on Soft Computing, held May 25-27, 2014, in Berkeley. The book covers a wealth of key topics in soft computing, focusing on both fundamental aspects and applications. This book contains selected papers from the symposium'Operations Research 2010'which was held from September 1-3, 2010 at the'Universität der Bundeswehr München', Germany. The international conference, which also serves as the annual meeting of the German Operations Research Society (GOR), attracted more than 600 participants from more than thirty countries. The general theme'Mastering Complexity'focusses on a natural component of the globalization process. Financial markets, traffic systems, network topologies and, last but not least, energy resource management, all contain complex behaviour and economic interdependencies which necessitate a scientific solution. Operations Research is one of the key instruments to model, simulate and analyze such systems. In the process of developing optimal solutions, suitable heuristics and efficient procedures are some of the challenges which are discussed in this volume.

The papers presented in this open access book address diverse challenges in decarbonizing energy systems, ranging from operational to investment planning problems, from market economics to technical and environmental considerations, from distribution grids to transmission grids, and from theoretical considerations to data provision concerns and applied case studies. While most papers have a clear methodological focus, they address policy-relevant questions at the same time. The target audience therefore includes academics and experts in industry as well as policy makers, who are interested in state-of-the-art quantitative modelling of policy relevant problems in energy systems. The 2nd International Symposium on Energy System Optimization (ISESO 2018) was held at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) under the symposium theme “Bridging the Gap Between Mathematical Modelling and Policy Support” on October 10th and 11th 2018. ISESO 2018 was organized by the KIT,the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies (HITS), the Heidelberg University, the German Aerospace Center and the University of Stuttgart.

This proceedings volume gathers peer-reviewed, selected papers presented at the “Mathematical and Numerical Approaches for Multi-Wave Inverse Problems” conference at the Centre Internacional de Rencontres Mathématiques (CIRM) in Marseille, France, in April 2019. It brings the latest research into new, reliable theoretical approaches and numerical techniques for solving nonlinear and inverse problems arising in multi-wave and hybrid systems.Multi-wave inverse problems have a wide range of applications in acoustics, electromagnetics, optics, medical imaging, and geophysics, to name but a few. In turn, it is well known that inverse problems are both nonlinear and ill-posed: two factors that pose major challenges for the development of new numerical methods for solving these problems, which are discussed in detail.These papers will be of interest to all researchers and graduate students working in the fields of nonlinear and inverse problems and its applications.

This volume comprises selected, revised papers from the Joint CIM-WIAS Workshop, TAAO 2017, held in Lisbon, Portugal, in December 2017. The workshop brought together experts from research groups at the Weierstrass Institute in Berlin and mathematics centres in Portugal to present and discuss current scientific topics and to promote existing and future collaborations. The papers include the following topics: PDEs with applications to material sciences, thermodynamics and laser dynamics, scientific computing, nonlinear optimization and stochastic analysis.

This volume collects papers, based on invited talks given at the IMA workshop in Modeling, Stochastic Control, Optimization, and Related Applications, held at the Institute for Mathematics and Its Applications, University of Minnesota, during May and June, 2018. There were four week-long workshops during the conference. They are (1) stochastic control, computation methods, and applications, (2) queueing theory and networked systems, (3) ecological and biological applications, and (4) finance and economics applications. For broader impacts, researchers from different fields covering both theoretically oriented and application intensive areas were invited to participate in the conference. It brought together researchers from multi-disciplinary communities in applied mathematics, applied probability, engineering, biology, ecology, and networked science, to review, and substantially update most recent progress. As an archive, this volume presents some of the highlights of the workshops, and collect papers covering a broad range of topics.

This edited book is dedicated to Professor N. U. Ahmed, a leading scholar and a renowned researcher in optimal control and optimization on the occasion of his retirement from the Department of Electrical Engineering at University of Ottawa in 1999. The contributions of this volume are in the areas of optimal control, non­ linear optimization and optimization applications. They are mainly the im­ proved and expanded versions of the papers selected from those presented in two special sessions of two international conferences. The first special session is Optimization Methods, which was organized by K. L. Teo and X. Q. Yang for the International Conference on Optimization and Variational Inequality, the City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, 1998. The other one is Optimal Control, which was organized byK. ~Teo and L. Caccetta for the Dynamic Control Congress, Ottawa, 1999. This volume is divided into three parts: Optimal Control; Optimization Methods; and Applications. The Optimal Control part is concerned with com­ putational methods, modeling and nonlinear systems. Three computational methods for solving optimal control problems are presented: (i) a regularization method for computing ill-conditioned optimal control problems, (ii) penalty function methods that appropriately handle final state equality constraints, and (iii) a multilevel optimization approach for the numerical solution of opti­ mal control problems. In the fourth paper, the worst-case optimal regulation involving linear time varying systems is formulated as a minimax optimal con­ trol problem.

Agent-based modeling/simulation is an emergent approach to the analysis of social and economic systems. It provides a bottom-up experimental method to be applied to social sciences such as economics, management, sociology, and politics as well as some engineering fields dealing with social activities. This book includes selected papers presented at the Seventh International Workshop on Agent-Based Approaches in Economic and Social Complex Systems held in Osaka, Japan, in 2012.At the workshop, 24 reviewed full papers were presented, and of those, 17 were selected to be included in this volume. The papers are divided into two groups as'Fundamentals of Agent-Based Modeling'and'Applications of Agent-Based Modeling'.

Operations research tools are ideally suited to providing solutions and insights for the many problems health policy-maker's face. Indeed, a growing body of literature on health policy analysis, based on operations research methods, has emerged to address the problems mentioned above and several others. The research in this field is often multi-disciplinary, being conducted by teams that include not only operations researchers but also clinicians, economists and policy analysts. The research is also often very applied, focusing on a specific question driven by a decision-maker and many times yielding a tool to assist in future decisions.The goal of this volume was to bring together a group of papers by leading experts that could showcase the current state of the field of operations research applied to health-care policy. There are 18 chapters that illustrate the breadth of this field. The chapters use a variety of techniques, including classical operations research tools, such as optimization, queuing theory, and discrete event simulation, as well as statistics, epidemic models and decision-analytic models. The book spans the field and includes work that ranges from highly conceptual to highly applied. An example of the former is the chapter by Kimmel and Schackman on building policy models, and an example of the latter is the chapter by Coyle and colleagues on developing a Markov model for use by an organization in Ontario that makes recommendations about the funding of new drugs. The book also includes a mix of review chapters, such as the chapter by Hutton on public health response to influenza outbreaks, and original research, such as the paper by Blake and colleagues analyzing a decision by Canadian Blood Services to consolidate services. This volume could provide an excellent introduction to the field of operations research applied to health-care policy, and it could also serve as an introduction to new areas for researchers already familiarwith the topic.The book is divided into six sections. The first section contains two chapters that describe several different applications of operations research in health policy and provide an excellent overview of the field. Sections 2 to 4 present policy models in three focused areas. Section 5 contains two chapters on conceptualizing and building policy models. The book concludes in Section 6 with two chapters describing work that was done with policy-makers and presenting insights gained from working directly with policy-makers.

The two-volume set LNCS 7951 and 7952 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 10th International Symposium on Neural Networks, ISNN 2013, held in Dalian, China, in July 2013. The 157 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. The papers are organized in following topics: computational neuroscience, cognitive science, neural network models, learning algorithms, stability and convergence analysis, kernel methods, large margin methods and SVM, optimization algorithms, varational methods, control, robotics, bioinformatics and biomedical engineering, brain-like systems and brain-computer interfaces, data mining and knowledge discovery and other applications of neural networks.

The present book fmds its roots in the International Conference on Methods and Applications of Multiple Criteria Decision Making held in Mons in May 1997. A small number of contributions to that conference were selected via a refereeing procedure and retained authors were requested to include in their final version their more recent results. This explains why some papers differ significantly from the original presentation. The introductory paper of Raynaud addresses the long range forecasts in Multiple Criteria Decision Making on the basis of a Delphi process that was run before and during the congress. In a second part, the French author explains how he and some of his partners could find the proof of an important conjecture : the iteration of a strongly monotonic choice function is not a strongly monotonic ranking function. The second part of the book covers methodological aspects of decision theory. The contribution of Bouyssou and Pirlot concerns the reformulation of classical conjoint measurement models that induce a complete and transitive preference binary relation on the set of alternatives which seem to be unrealistic when decision makers are asked to compare objects evaluated on several attributes. The authors propose to consider non transitive, non complete and non additive decomposable conjoint models. They define properties that characterize such models.

In the quest to understand and model the healthy or sick human body, re­ searchers and medical doctors are utilizing more and more quantitative tools and techniques. This trend is pushing the envelope of a new field we call Biomedical Computing, as an exciting frontier among signal processing, pattern recognition, optimization, nonlinear dynamics, computer science and biology, chemistry and medicine. A conference on Biocomputing was held during February 25-27, 2001 at the University of Florida. The conference was sponsored by the Center for Applied Optimization, the Computational Neuroengineering Center, the Biomedical En­ gineering Program (through a Whitaker Foundation grant), the Brain Institute, the School of Engineering, and the University of Florida Research & Graduate Programs. The conference provided a forum for researchers to discuss and present new directions in Biocomputing. The well-attended three days event was highlighted by the presence of top researchers in the field who presented their work in Biocomputing. This volume contains a selective collection of ref­ ereed papers based on talks presented at this conference.
