A letter to the editor is presented in response to an article published in the October 13, 2014 issue related to an statement of the American Chemical Society on presence of chemical matter in lavender oil.

The article focuses on the resistance of France on the proposal of the European Union (EU) to label the essential oil as dangerous. Topics discussed include the notification given to European Chemicals Agency regarding the allergic reactions which can be caused by the essential oils in lavender, the antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties of lavender oil, and the argument of farmers concerning the classification of lavender oil as an agricultural product.
