Lung cancer is one of the most common oncogenic diseases worldwide, which can be divided into small cell (SLCLS) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The detection of gene fusions in tumour cells is getting increasingly important for the choice of therapy. Fusions result in a rearrangement of the DNA (deoxyribo-nucleic acid), which leads to the activation or inactivation of certain functionally relevant genes. At the Institute of Pathology Feldkirch, residual material from human tumour samples were examined as part of the verification on the Idylla™ GeneFusion Panel (Biocartis NV) based of the qRT-PCR (qualitative real time PCR). The results were compared with the immunohistochemistry (IHC) and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS). After completion of the analyses the inclusion of this method in diagnostics is currently being discussed.
