Abstract

The article discusses a method and spreadsheet tool that can be used in providing operating pressure limits as a function of vessel-metal temperatures. It states that the limits can be utilized as part of a process hazard analysis (PHA) to establish operating pressure guidelines for process vessels that have the potential for certain low-temperature excursions. It explores auto-refrigeration which can occur during the depressurization of a vessel that contains light liquid hydrocarbons.
