The article examines the coal handling system upgrades implemented by North Omaha Power Station operated by Omaha Public Power district (OPPD) to deal with the characteristics of Powder River Basin (PRB) coal. While containing less sulfur, it is noted that PRB coal contains more water and has inherent properties prone to sudden, spontaneous combustion. It is stated that transfer chutes from Martin Engineering provide benefits of minimizing aeration and preventing buildup within the chute.
