PARATUBERCULOSIS , *MYCOBACTERIUM avium paratuberculosis - Abstract
The article focuses on the need to develop a Johne's disease strategy in Great Britain to avoid the disease getting out of control. According to results from a study conducted by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), up to 42.5% of British dairy herds were infected with Mycobacterium paratuberculosis (MAP), the organism causing the disease, when sampled in 2006. The reason why the disease is difficult to manage is cited. Veterinarian Keith Curler notes that a variety of tests is available, but all of them lack sensitivity.
