The article focuses on a contractual provision called force majeure clause, which excuses a party from performing its obligations upon the occurrence of certain events. It discusses the common law and statutory doctrines concerning the impossibility of performance, commercial impracticability and the Section 2-615 of the Uniform Commercial Code. It explores certain circumstances that are proposed as potential force majeure events. The author explains the general types of contracts that are commonly used by buyers and sellers of natural gas.
