Punch biopsy is a useful and low-cost technique for obtaining skin samples and diagnosing skin lesions. A cylindrical scalpel is used to extract a skin fragment 2 to 8 mm in length and 7 to 9 mm in depth. Before performing the technique, informed consent from the patient and sterile material are required. After the biopsy, follow-up is done to monitor the wound and remove the stitches. This technique is especially useful in primary care for the diagnosis and treatment of skin lesions. Additionally, hypercarotenemia is mentioned, a benign condition that causes yellow-orange hyperpigmentation in the skin due to carotene deposition. It is important to differentiate it from jaundice.
