Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that predominantly affects the central face. The article discusses a study by a research team led by Suresh Valiyaveettil of the National University of Singapore that demonstrates how a key protein in turtle eggshells helps protect developing animals from mechanical stress and bacterial invaders. The study reveals that pelovaterin, an amino acid peptide from eggshells of Chinese turtles, resembles antimicrobial peptides from mammals and that it kills some bacteria in vitro.

The article reports on the development of antimicrobial peptide that reduces bacteria such as Bacillus anthracis that causes anthrax and Staphylococus, in the U.S. Researchers have found out that such peptide were able to limit the bacteria's resistance to the peptide. The finding was first discovered by the team of Gregory Stephanopoulos of the department of chemical engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology by using combination of amino acid grouping.
