The article reports that chemists at Rutgers University in Camden, New Jersey have discovered a one-pot reaction in which 18 molecular components react sequentially to form a cavernous, covalent molecule that may encapsulate other, smaller molecules. Recent synthesis of covalent nanocontainer molecules is more atom-efficient thus, advantageous in applications such as drug delivery, separation science, catalysis and sensing. The discovery has been documented through a paper authored by Ralf Warmuth, a chemist at the university.
