The article discusses the responsibilities of a U.S. fire department's engineer as of February 2013, including information on the first engine-due's driver and his or her daily tasks which include a thorough inspection of the fire engine, familiarization with the territories associated with the various fire engines, as well as the location of fire hydrants and the use of hydrant marking systems. On-scene fire apparatus placement and fire nozzle operation are also addressed.
