The concept of delivering Network as a Service (NaaS) is enabled mainly by three approaches, which combined are attracting more and more attention: Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Network Function Virtualization (NFV), and Software Defined Networking (SDN). This book addresses all of these three topics, and therefore is a timely work presenting up-to-date research areas. The book is divided into 16 chapters. The book is a valuable source of information about integration of SOA, NFV, and SDN regarding the development of the NaaS concept. Basic ideas, principles and architectures are carefully described for most of the aspects. Such preliminary information is often followed by practical considerations, optimization problems, or numerical results. A broad perspective of addressed aspects is another advantage of the book, making it an interdisciplinary work. The most important drawback of the book regards the fact that each chapter forms a separate work. Therefore, some basic ideas are presented more than once in the book. This especially concerns introductory sections of chapters. This book was written by leading experts in the field of 5G mobile communications. The contents are based on several deliverables of the European Union (EU) project, Mobile and Wireless Communication Enablers for the Twenty-Twenty Information Society (METIS), which was accomplished between 2012 and 2015 by 25 companies and institutions from all over Europe. After a short introduction in Chapter 1, the following 13 chapters reflect the results of the work packages of the METIS project. The book may be a good starting point to become acquainted with novel transmission techniques and networking solutions proposed for 5G system. Nearly 600 references will help the interested reader dive deeper into a specific topic.
