Depth Psychology and Climate Change: The Green Book is a clarion call to all humanity to wake up and work together toward both imagining and actualizing a viable ecological transformation before it's too late. Dale Mathers, editor of this thought-provoking volume, has recruited a talented team of Jungian analysts to help us understand the complexity of climate change denial as well as to offer suggestions as to what might be done to remedy this urgent ecological crisis. Thomas Cattoi and David M. Odorisio co-edit a volume of essays that explore where depth psychology and mysticism as well as mystical experiences find convergences and divergences. The richly varied essays are gathered under three territories: Part I: Methodological, Hermeneutic, & Inter-disciplinary Perspectives; Part II: Historical & Theoretical Approaches; and Part III: Self and No-Self, Knowing and Unknowing in Depth Psychology & Mysticism. One of the central aims of the study by scholars in both fields is to discern the outlines of a new hermeneutic to more fully illuminate both fields individually as well as where they meet together in conversation. The interdisciplinary approach opens areas of inquiry that might not surface in a separate study of each area individually. Another of its aims is to question current boundaries between the two disciplines and to ask where in each field may the assumptions and beliefs no longer hold up, where false dichotomies still exist, and where and under what conditions in each field is a concerted effort of revisioning due. Interest in Jung has never been confined to analysts. The anthologyJung in Effect: Jung’s Ideas in the Wider Worldintroduces readers to his influence on society and culture and to key ideas such as Jungian archetypes and synchronicity. Readers learn that Jung introduced theI Chingto Western audiences. His extensive discoveries about typology led, for example, to what has since become the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (www.myersbriggs.org). One contributor examines how Jung’s ideas may enrich literary criticism by applying them to the novels of Patrick White. Others look at how he may help us to understand the life and creative output of visual artists such as Jackson Pollock, musicians such as David Bowie, and film directors including Federico Fellini. The contributors discuss how these artists understood Jung’s impact on them and their work. The book explores how Jung’s ideas have made their way into the arts, business, and marketing by illustrating how producers of popular films have drawn on Jungian archetypes to engage mass audiences—a promising formula when presented in original ways. Meanwhile, marketers have sought to apply Jungian concepts, although with uneven results. Finally, the book discusses how reading Jung has helped to illuminate the inner journeys of people seeking religious or spiritual guidance. The Archetypal World of Nikola Tesla (2010), written by Prof. Dr. Ivan Nastovic, looks at the scientist Nikola Tesla in the light of the analytical psychology of C. G. Jung. Unlike psychoanalysis, which deals with research of the individual unconscious, that is, what is solely personal, Jung's analytical psychology allows us to comprehend what is found on the other side of the personal. Nastovic discusses several archetypes that shaped Tesla's world. He first points out the importance and the function of the Great Mother archetype and Tesla's white dove in order to fully understand his personality and his work. While introducing the reader to Tesla's opus, Nastovic explains the archetype of light, strongly present in Tesla's personality, the archetypal roots of Tesla's discovery of the rotating magnetic field, and the mysticism of his personality and his creativity. We propose an archetypical analysis of “Circe" and “Ciao, Verona" de Cortázar, by confronting the feminine personages and the images of femininity in both stories with the elements associated to the femme fatale archetype. We conclude, first, that, while “Circe" offers an actualized an urbanized version of the femme fatale, “Ciao, Verona" returns to the psychological origins of that tradition, representing the woman as a menace to a masculine world. Second, we conclude that the femme fatale of Cortázar is a multiple personage that combines several traditions and that so doing converts into a symbol of the eternal repetition and renovation of the femme fatale archetype.
