Mills' book is an extensive montage of the incredible number of foundational industries which had their beginnings in the Greenwich Peninsula. It is impossible to do justice here to the depth and breadth of the industries investigated by Mills for the book but I can recommend it to anyone who knows or is visiting the area, or is interested in how industries get started and develop. What had been nothing but a marsh area with only those industries directly relating to wetland flora and fauna, such as reed-gathering, from the 16th century gradually developed into a built-up area crammed with any number of large and small industries.
