Abstract

Ultrawidefield-guided swept-source optical coherence tomography (UWF-guided SS-OCT) is a valuable diagnostic tool for evaluating and documenting retinal pathology. This technology combines UWF imaging and OCT in one platform, allowing clinicians to produce OCT images of any area of concern within the 200° field of view. UWF-guided OCT can be particularly useful for identifying peripheral lesions, determining the nature of retinal elevation, distinguishing atrophic retinal holes, assessing suspicious choroidal nevi, and documenting extramacular lesions. Recent research has validated the effectiveness of UWF-guided SS-OCT in detecting retinal detachment, vitreous adhesion, and differentiating between intraretinal microvascular abnormalities and neovascularization elsewhere. Additionally, UWF-guided SS-OCT has potential as a research tool for studying peripheral pathologies. [Extracted from the article]

Abstract

Clinical investigation of central retinal dysfunction in two cases of solar retinopathy. Two patients were examined for best corrected visual acuity (VA), fundus inspection, visual fields, multifocal electroretinography (mfERG) with a stimulus pattern of 241 hexagons and, at follow-up, also with optical coherence tomography (OCT). At the initial examination, mfERG revealed central retinal dysfunction, which had improved by the time of follow-up. In Case 1, a foveal oedema regressed over time, although VA remained slightly reduced. In Case 2, OCT showed spots of increased reflectivity corresponding to the patient's symptoms. Central retinal dysfunction due to solar retinopathy may improve over time. However, structural and functional changes may persist. This report illustrates that mfERG and OCT are useful tools for objective documentation of the pathology in solar retinopathy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
