Climatography for the Anthropocene: D. R. Coen: Climate in motion: science, empire, and the problem of scale. New sciences and new political orders are outcomes of co-production, if we follow the line of argument put in train by Shapin and Schaffer ([27]) and developed by the likes of Jasanoff ([15]), Miller ([22]) and Wynne ([31]). From the environmental, cultural and scientific palimpsest of the Habsburg monarchy emerged a science which formed much of the basis of modern dynamic climatology, as well as a science which sought to resolve the inherent scalar challenges of reckoning with climate - scientifically, politically and culturally. Nonetheless, in its emphasis on circulation and scaling, the book offers an historiographical model which is applicable far beyond the history of meteorology and climatology, and an analytical stance which will resonate far beyond history of science.
