With my opening remarks, I think you can see that I feel the book is an excellent addition to teaching fire science and combustion phenomena, and to communicating observed flame/combustion behavior to our community. Even then, there is enough clarity for just about all the images in the book to clearly convey various combustion images. In conclusion, the book can just be a coffee table book for leafing through, but, I think it would make a great teaching book to educate combustion and flame phenomena to students, graduate students, and those new to the fire sciences. Dow Chemical subsidiary Dow Corning has launched silicone-based Dow Corning® 43-821 Additive, a new flame retardant synergist designed to overcome the mechanical performance degradation and corrosivity problems caused by high loadings of conventional phosphorus-based flame retardants in filled polyamide (PA) compounds. Used at low levels (1–2%), the new synergist can cut the total amount of organic phosphorus additive needed in PA6 and PA66 compounds by 40%, while still providing high levels of flame retardancy, the company claims.
