Women‘s participation in sport can create a substantial contribution to social life and tradition development. Throughout the history of sport, it has been known that the arena of sport is mainly male dominated. Since time immemorial, the society has constructed the order that it seems natural where man belongs to marketplace, woman belongs to household chores, woman the mistress of domesticity, man the master of all else, man the rational thinker, woman the guardian of morals, man dominant, and woman subordinate. Although it is believed that the status of women in North East India is comparatively better than that of mainstream India and since ancient times women have been playing a vital role in contributing to the peace and progress of the region. Many inspirational women from the region have been pioneers and leaders, breaking gender barriers and making considerable progress in diverse fields. The path towards success is no bed of roses for womenfolk especially when it comes to sports. Besides, one's racial or ethnic background greatly shapes the experience they may have in sport. One of such inspirational woman who has carved a niche is Mary Kom, hails from Manipur whose contribution is immense in the field of sports. Assam is unquestionably a beautiful state of India that upholds the real picture of 'Unity in Diversity. No one can deny the immense role played by Sankardeva's neo-Vaishnava movement in expediting the process of formation of a larger Assamese society in the right direction. In order to sow the seeds of unity and solidarity among the masses from different ethnic groups, they have to be brought to the same religious-social and cultural stage as said by Sankardeva. Simply by analysing the essence of Sankardeva's philosophy, we may understand the relevance of his teaching in modern Assamese society for its overall growth and development. The creative work of the great Srimanta Sankardeva has contributed to the social, cultural and spiritual development of Assamese society and has given impetus and scope to the national life of Assam. His thoughts and teachings have enriched the Assamese society from different angles. Therefore, it has been attempted by the writer to explore the religious and humanistic perspective in his teaching. The findings of this paper have been summarised that there is a pressing need to revive the teaching of Sankardeva in the modern Assamese society considering the rising religious intolerance and degradation of human values. India's high growth over the last fifteen years has inspired several recent books and papers to examine the growth's source and sustainability—the two-volume study by Arvind Virmani being a case in point. This paper evaluates these recent works. It is argued that the cause of the take-off does not fit into any easy ideological category as suggested by Virmani. The current high growth has been achieved in several steps, with distinct factors of propulsion behind each step. There is reason to expect the growth to be sustainable, although destabilizing political tensions will arise from the increasing inequality. The paper entitled "Negative impacts of Globalisation in Aravind Adiga's 'The White Tiger' attempts to explore the unequal results of globalization that is negative impact of globalization. The story entitled, "The Price of Bananas", captures the subtleties of class division succinctly. The story describes the negligent, mean attitude of the affluent towards the poor. Sarojini Naidu was a gifted artist, whose poetry is appreciated for its bird like quality and sophisticated style. The three volumes of her poems, The Golden Threshold (1905), The Bird of Time (1912) and The Broken Wing (1917), occupy a place of eminence in the history of Indo-Anglian poetry. Lyricism, symbolism, imagery, mysticism and native fervour, are the remarkable qualities of her poetry. She admired the beauty around her whether it was related to the world of nature or varied colours of Indian cultural heritage. Naidu's themes are indigenous as advised by Edmund Gosse and capture the spirit of India. Her major themes were nature, love, life and death, folk life, patriotism and mysticism. Present paper focuses on the mystical poems of Sarojini Naidu with flashes of comparison with the Mysticism of Sri. Aurobindo. The treatment by both the poets are different but reflect their Indian sensibility. This paper studies reproductive behaviour (ideal jamily size, completed family size and family planning acceptance) in a rural Indian area which was rapidly industrialising. Two castes and eleven villages were sampled. It was found that family planning was quite common and that fertility differentials among couples were related to the couples' unique socioeconomic characteristics as well as to two group level variables (caste and village). The latter result was shown to be statistically significant, for all three measures of reproductive behaviour, even after many unique socioeconomic characteristics and attitudes of each couple were accounted for statistically. The article focuses on the book "Social Mobility in the Caste System in India. An Interdisciplinary Symposium," edited by James Silverberg. In the book, author aim to further an understanding of the nature, extent and significance of social mobility in a caste system and to uncover the mechanisms and determinants involved. The book offers a review of the sociological concern with social mobility in the caste system as a general set of processes. A set of four papers presents and evaluates evidence concerning social mobility, based in three instances on recent first-hand observations and in the fourth on data extracted from the medieval period by the techniques of the historian. The first two papers are the products of anthropological field research in rural communities: a South Indian case by researcher Edward B. Harper, who combines ethnographic and ethnohistorical methods; a North Indian case by researcher William L. Rowe, who gathered his ethnographic data not only among the Caubans of the village in which he lived but also from their city-dwelling caste fellows, the politicians and other professionals whom he interviewed in Bombay, India and several urban centres of North India.

The article presents information on the book "Research in Family Planning," edited by Clyde V. Kiser. This book is a collection of papers presented at the conference on research in family planning, which was held at Carnegie International Centre in New York City from October 13-19, 1960. There are studies about India, Asiatic countries other than India and the Middle East, United States, Latin America and Europe. It includes research in methods of fertility control, about acceptability of methods, problems of measurement, problems of research design and problems of motivation and communication. On the whole the book is very comprehensive and useful. It is a step in the right direction and must be read by all those who are at present engaged in the implementation of family planning programmes with one caution that methods to be employed depend upon the culture and ethics of each country and in this field methods and programmes of other countries cannot be adopted without proper thinking and adjustment.

The article discusses the book "Peasants in History: Essays in Honor of Daniel Thorner," edited by E.J. Hobsbawm, W. Kulla, A. Mitra, K. N. Raj and I. Sachs. The article points out that the book is an impressive memorial to Daniel Thorner, a prolific scholar in the distinction of the contributors and the wide range of issues, which have been taken to be representative of Thorner's concerns. The collection is an interesting reflection not only of Thorner's interests, but also of the current state of the literature on peasants. The book is divided into different sections and the first section of the book contains papers relating to European peasantries. The second section focuses on India and Asia and the third section raises policy issues relating to economic development. Themes of peasants and capitalism, differentiation amongst the peasantry, reform, and peasants and socialism are also highlighted in the book. The book features the elimination of the peasantry in Scotland, the persistence of magnetization amongst Polish peasants during the second serfdom, the changing character of Indian villages and the long-term impact of land reform on peasants and landlords.
