This article examines individualism and memory in Robert Frost's A Boy's Will (1913) and Tanure Ojaide's The Beauty I have seen (2010). The paper adopts existentialism as a critical approach. Previous studies on these poets, especially Ojaide, have neglected the individualistic nature of their poetry and stereotyped the poets. This article, thus, brings a new approach to the critical debates and scholarship on these poets. The aim of the article is to show the individualistic and existentialist nature of the poetry of Frost and Ojaide. In the analysis, individualism is examined at the level of form and content; starting with the use of the lyric form and poet-persona inclusion in the poems to the thematisation of gloom and the importance of memory, among others. The paper shows that, truly, these poets are largely individualistic in outlook, and they have expressed existentialist philosophy in their poetry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Although Longino and Solomon are interested in what social conditions will produce better science, neither philosopher has provided a sufficient analysis of the social character of science. For instance, neither considers the social character of discovery as well as that of justification, or that an individual scientist's social status and social relations may be important for understanding her role in both processes. The contributors to Schmitt's volume are interested in whether the terms that refer to social entities can be reduced to or eliminated in favor of terms referring to individuals. Their analyses, which proceed largely by testing their intuitions against imaginary examples, could benefit from paying more attention to actual social science and real-world social problems. Ideally, these social metaphysicians should be engaged with philosophers of science in a joint effort to investigate whether a social account of scientific knowledge can explain something that an individualist account leaves out. Oscar Wilde's novel The Picture of Dorian Gray (1891) becomes especially interesting when one analyzes it through the hermeneutical lenses of The Garden of Eden complex. The comparison between Dorian's decreation and the Fall of Adam and Eve was not yet researched taking into consideration the Hegelian-Kierkegaardian insights about "lost innocence" and "revolutionary freedom". I have also investigated the ideal of "total existence" proposed by Lord Henry Wotton and his Symbolist eulogy of Beauty. Moreover, the Jungian concept of the shadow was used to explain the dynamics between the two main characters of the novel. The destruction of ethics, which reminds us of Nietzsche and Rimbaud and the final Kierkegaardian collapse of aestheticism transforms Oscar Wilde into a complex author who deserves a thorough philosophical analysis. Underlying Monica Ali’s endorsement of liberalism in her novel Brick Lane is a critique of the culturally relativistic views promoted by advocates of postcolonialism and multiculturalism in the West. Stressing the universality of the desire for freedom and autonomy, Ali’s liberal point of view seeks to shed light on the predicament of less powerful members of non-Western cultures, such as women, who are oppressed by the customs and traditions of their cultures. By employing a liberal perspective, however, Ali not only oversimplifies the cultural concerns of the Bangladeshi immigrants in England but also reproduces a problematic and stereotypical picture of Bangladesh. Thus, she vindicates postcolonial arguments regarding the inadequacies of liberal perspectives in understanding non-Western societies and cultures. Espousing different perceptions of cultures and individual agency, Ali and her postcolonial critics also stand for two distinct sets of concerns, experiences, and aspirations.
