Urban residents need to live in an ecologically sustainable way to mitigate and adapt to climate change. To discuss the model of urban ecological life, this paper focused on Satoyama landscapes and reviewed academic articles on the existing cases of Satoyama conservation by urban residents in the Greater Tokyo Area. We analyzed activities performed by participants, benefits to participants, and targeted and achieved ecosystems. Several findings were obtained from the review of published literature. First, the participants were mainly elderly men aged 60 years or older, who were not necessarily local people and who were motivated mostly by the need to conserve nature and improve their health. People with intellectual disabilities also enjoyed the benefits of Satoyama woodland management. Second, participants tended to recognize benefits in terms of health promotion, social cohesion, recreation, and resource utilization, rather than landscape and biodiversity conservation. Third, there were different directions of Satoyama conservation from the perspectives of nature and humans. The broader ecosystem beyond each site was not necessarily considered in Satoyama conservation. These findings show the potential of, and the necessity for, attracting other urban residents by including various activities that consist of not only vegetation conservation but also communal events based on different preferences. There is also a need for balancing environmental and socio-economic perspectives, and the targeted ecosystem should be further explored in collaboration with experts in ecology and landscape planning to make urban ecological life feasible. Thousands of children die each year as a result of unintentional injuries. Some of these deaths may be preventable. Given that there are different types of safety responses, a comprehensive review of the literature would provide information on important deficits and avenues for future research. The purpose of the present review was to evaluate the extant literature on procedures for teaching safety responses and provide suggestions and considerations for future research. Our review of the literature revealed that although many safety categories are well represented in the current literature, others still warrant investigation. Furthermore, there is a call for future researchers to provide a more systematic description of experimental procedures and participants in their papers to allow for future replications. Future research would also benefit from further evaluations into specific procedural modifications that will lead to better generalization of safety responses to naturalistic settings and long-term maintenance outcomes. Functional communication training (FCT) is one of the most common treatments for challenging behavior and is considered an empirically supported practice for children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, no previous systematic review has evaluated the quality of FCT for adults with ASD, and the empirical support for this practice among adults is unknown. The purpose of the current review was to synthesize the extant research, including a quality appraisal of the literature on the use of FCT to treat challenging behavior for adults with ASD. We identified 20 studies that evaluated the efficacy of FCT in reducing challenging behavior for adults with ASD. The quality of each article was evaluated based on the What Works Clearinghouse design and evidence standards. Following the quality and evidence evaluations, eight studies, including eight experiments, were found to have moderate or strong evidence of effectiveness. The current body of literature provides some evidence for the efficacy of FCT in reducing challenging behavior for adults with ASD, but additional research in this area is warranted. Staddon's I TNB i provides an alternative vision of what behavior analysis might have been had B. F. Skinner been a different scientist. Staddon's most salient scientific criticism of Skinner's work in I TNB i concerns Staddon's view of Skinner's epistemology. At its root, Staddon appears to have wished Skinner had proposed a different kind of theory of behaviorism, one that was decidedly different from Skinner's inductive version. Instead of considering that Skinner's strictures about theory may have been constructive in 1950 and that the field has developed since to the point where it is ready for theory, Staddon takes to bashing Skinner, lending the book a sadly negative tone.... Staddon's attack, like his portrayal of Skinner's view of theory, is often distorted and is much too harsh. Some of Staddon's concerns are legitimate, but it would have been appropriate for Staddon to acknowledge the considerable positive human contributions that have grown indirectly from Skinner's work, in addition to Skinner's hypothetical extensions.
