This paper applies bibliometric and integrative review approaches to examine the pattern of growth, conceptual and social structure of hospitality and tourism internship research using 167 articles retrieved from Scopus database published between 1986 and 2020. The contribution of journals, scholars, institutions, and countries in the production of hospitality and tourism internship research was assessed. Descriptive statistics of the bibliographic data was conducted using "Bibliometrix" tool whiles VOSviewer software was used for network analysis. Findings indicate that hospitality and tourism internship research is about three decades old however, the knowledge domain remains underdeveloped. Busby G, University of Queensland and the USA are the most productive author, institution and country, respectively in hospitality and internship research. Research efforts have focused on internships and students' attitudes toward hospitality work, benefits of internships to students, industry and institutions, and internship satisfaction. Periodontal diseases are oral inflammatory diseases affecting the tissues supporting and surrounding the teeth and include gingivitis and periodontitis. Oral pathogens may lead to microbial products spreading into the systemic circulation and reaching distant organs, while periodontal diseases have been related to low-grade systemic inflammation. Gut and oral microbiota alterations might play a role in the pathogenesis of several autoimmune and inflammatory diseases including arthritis, considering the role of the gut–joint axis in the regulation of molecular pathways involved in the pathogenesis of these conditions. In this scenario, it is hypothesized that probiotics might contribute to the oral and intestinal micro-ecological balance and could reduce low-grade inflammation typical of periodontal diseases and arthritis. This literature overview aims to summarize state-of-the-art ideas about linkages among oral–gut microbiota, periodontal diseases, and arthritis, while investigating the role of probiotics as a potential therapeutic intervention for the management of both oral diseases and musculoskeletal disorders. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most prevalent liver pathology worldwide. Meanwhile, liver cancer represents the sixth most common malignancy, with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) as the primary, most prevalent subtype. Due to the rising incidence of metabolic disorders, NAFLD has become one of the main contributing factors to HCC development. However, although NAFLD might account for about a fourth of HCC cases, there is currently a significant gap in HCC surveillance protocols regarding noncirrhotic NAFLD patients, so the majority of NAFLD-related HCC cases were diagnosed in late stages when survival chances are minimal. However, in the past decade, the focus in cancer genomics has shifted towards the noncoding part of the genome, especially on the microRNAs (miRNAs) and long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs), which have proved to be involved in the regulation of several malignant processes. This review aims to summarize the current knowledge regarding some of the main dysregulated, noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) and their implications for NAFLD and HCC development. A central focus of the review is on miRNA and lncRNAs that can influence the progression of NAFLD towards HCC and how they can be used as potential screening tools and future therapeutic targets. Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that exist within the human gut, and which are also present in different food products and supplements. They have been investigated for some decades, due to their potential beneficial impact on human health. Probiotics compete with pathogenic microorganisms for adhesion sites within the gut, to antagonize them or to regulate the host immune response resulting in preventive and therapeutic effects. Therefore, dysbiosis, defined as an impairment in the gut microbiota, could play a role in various pathological conditions, such as lactose intolerance, gastrointestinal and urogenital infections, various cancers, cystic fibrosis, allergies, inflammatory bowel disease, and can also be caused by antibiotic side effects. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short non-coding RNAs that can regulate gene expression in a post-transcriptional manner. miRNAs are biochemical biomarkers that play an important role in almost all cellular signaling pathways in many healthy and disease states. We report a fatal case of cytomegalovirus (CMV) ischemic colitis in a renal transplant recipient. The disease was manifested with fever of unknown origin for 27 days followed by progressive right lower abdominal pain. The clinical condition deteriorated rapidly with development of disseminated intravascular coagulopathy and internal bleeding despite right hemicolectomy and antiviral therapy. The patient died 11 days after the onset of abdominal pain. We conclude that the possibility of CMV ischemic colitis should be suspected if a patient presents with lever and abdominal pain in the early months after transplantation, and that early viral detection by CMV polymerase chain reaction can be lifesaving.
