Goal-conditioned reinforcement learning is a powerful way to control an AI agent's behavior at runtime. That said, popular goal representations, e.g., target states or natural language, are either limited to Markovian tasks or rely on ambiguous task semantics. We propose representing temporal goals using compositions of deterministic finite automata (cDFAs) and use cDFAs to guide RL agents. cDFAs balance the need for formal temporal semantics with ease of interpretation: if one can understand a flow chart, one can understand a cDFA. On the other hand, cDFAs form a countably infinite concept class with Boolean semantics, and subtle changes to the automaton can result in very different tasks, making them difficult to condition agent behavior on. To address this, we observe that all paths through a DFA correspond to a series of reach-avoid tasks and propose pre-training graph neural network embeddings on "reach-avoid derived" DFAs. Through empirical evaluation, we demonstrate that the proposed pre-training method enables zero-shot generalization to various cDFA task classes and accelerated policy specialization without the myopic suboptimality of hierarchical methods.

Background. Fully automatic analysis of myocardial perfusion MRI datasets enables rapid and objective reporting of stress/rest studies in patients with suspected ischemic heart disease. Developing deep learning techniques that can analyze multi-center datasets despite limited training data and variations in software and hardware is an ongoing challenge. Methods. Datasets from 3 medical centers acquired at 3T (n = 150 subjects) were included: an internal dataset (inD; n = 95) and two external datasets (exDs; n = 55) used for evaluating the robustness of the trained deep neural network (DNN) models against differences in pulse sequence (exD-1) and scanner vendor (exD-2). A subset of inD (n = 85) was used for training/validation of a pool of DNNs for segmentation, all using the same spatiotemporal U-Net architecture and hyperparameters but with different parameter initializations. We employed a space-time sliding-patch analysis approach that automatically yields a pixel-wise "uncertainty map" as a byproduct of the segmentation process. In our approach, a given test case is segmented by all members of the DNN pool and the resulting uncertainty maps are leveraged to automatically select the "best" one among the pool of solutions. Results. The proposed DAUGS analysis approach performed similarly to the established approach on the internal dataset (p = n.s.) whereas it significantly outperformed on the external datasets (p < 0.005 for exD-1 and exD-2). Moreover, the number of image series with "failed" segmentation was significantly lower for the proposed vs. the established approach (4.3% vs. 17.1%, p < 0.0005). Conclusions. The proposed DAUGS analysis approach has the potential to improve the robustness of deep learning methods for segmentation of multi-center stress perfusion datasets with variations in the choice of pulse sequence, site location or scanner vendor., Comment: Accepted for publication in JCMR, 2024

This paper investigates the geometric structures and properties of 8-dimensional manifolds with Spin(7)-holonomy. We focus on the characterization and implications of 4-planes within these manifolds, which are endowed with an almost symplectic structure compatible with the Spin(7)-structure. We provide a detailed analysis of the differential forms defining these structures, including the Cayley 4-form and its stabilization under the Spin(7) group actions. Furthermore, we explore the concept of mirror duality within the context of exceptional holonomy, elucidating the relationship between dual structures and their topological constraints. By examining the conditions under which mirror duality arises, we enhance the understanding of the interplay between Spin(7)-structures and symplectic geometry. The binary star NY Hya is a bright, detached, double-lined eclipsing system with an orbital period of just under five days with two components each nearly identical to the Sun and located in the solar neighbourhood. The objective of this study is to test and confront various stellar evolution models for solar-type stars based on accurate measurements of stellar mass and radius. We present new ground-based spectroscopic and photometric as well as high-precision space-based photometric and astrometric data from which we derive orbital as well as physical properties of the components via the method of least-squares minimisation based on a standard binary model valid for two detached components. Classic statistical techniques were invoked to test the significance of model parameters. Additional empirical evidence was compiled from the public domain; the derived system properties were compared with archival broad-band photometry data enabling a measurement of the system's spectral energy distribution that allowed an independent estimate of stellar properties. We also utilised semi-empirical calibration methods to derive atmospheric properties from Str\"{o}mgren photometry and related colour indices. We update the ephemerides of 16 transiting exoplanets using our ground-based observations, new TESS data, and previously published observations including those of amateur astronomers. All these light curves were modeled by making use of a set of quantitative criteria with the EXOFAST code to obtain mid-transit times. We searched for statistically significant secular and/or periodic trends in the mid-transit times. We found that the timing data are well modeled by a linear ephemeris for all systems except for XO-2 b, for which we detect an orbital decay with the rate of -12.95 $\pm$ 1.85 ms/yr that can be confirmed with future observations. We also detect a hint of potential periodic variations in the TTV data of HAT-P-13 b which also requires confirmation with further precise observations., Comment: 23 pages, 17 figures

This article reveals a significant connection in geometry: when the Lee form $\theta$ is normal to an almost Hermitian manifold $N$, it implies that $N$ possesses a nearly K\"ahler structure. Investigating locally conformally Spin(7) manifolds with 2-vector fields, our study provides a concise yet rigorous proof of this relationship.

We have applied a machine learning algorithm to predict the emergence of environment-induced spontaneous synchronization between two qubits in an open system setting. In particular, we have considered three different models, encompassing global and local dissipation regimes, to describe the open system dynamics of the qubits. We have utilized the $k$-nearest neighbors algorithm to estimate the long time synchronization behavior of the qubits only using the early time expectation values of qubit observables in these three distinct models. Our findings clearly demonstrate the possibility of determining the occurrence of different synchronization phenomena with high precision even at the early stages of the dynamics using a machine learning-based approach. Moreover, we show the robustness of our approach against potential measurement errors in experiments by considering random errors in qubit expectation values. We believe that the presented results can prove to be useful in experimental studies on the determination of quantum synchronization., Comment: 13 pages, 10 figures

Dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI) is a widely used modality for diagnosing myocardial blood flow (perfusion) abnormalities. During a typical free-breathing DCE-CMRI scan, close to 300 time-resolved images of myocardial perfusion are acquired at various contrast "wash in/out" phases. Manual segmentation of myocardial contours in each time-frame of a DCE image series can be tedious and time-consuming, particularly when non-rigid motion correction has failed or is unavailable. While deep neural networks (DNNs) have shown promise for analyzing DCE-CMRI datasets, a "dynamic quality control" (dQC) technique for reliably detecting failed segmentations is lacking. Here we propose a new space-time uncertainty metric as a dQC tool for DNN-based segmentation of free-breathing DCE-CMRI datasets by validating the proposed metric on an external dataset and establishing a human-in-the-loop framework to improve the segmentation results. In the proposed approach, we referred the top 10% most uncertain segmentations as detected by our dQC tool to the human expert for refinement. This approach resulted in a significant increase in the Dice score (p<0.001) and a notable decrease in the number of images with failed segmentation (16.2% to 11.3%) whereas the alternative approach of randomly selecting the same number of segmentations for human referral did not achieve any significant improvement. Our results suggest that the proposed dQC framework has the potential to accurately identify poor-quality segmentations and may enable efficient DNN-based analysis of DCE-CMRI in a human-in-the-loop pipeline for clinical interpretation and reporting of dynamic CMRI datasets., Comment: Accepted for publication in MICCAI 2023

The 2023 M7.8 Kahramanmara\c{s}/Pazarcik earthquake was larger and more destructive than what had been expected. Here we analyzed near-field seismic records and developed a dynamic rupture model that reconciles different currently conflicting inversion results and reveals spatially non-uniform propagation speeds in this earthquake, with predominantly supershear speeds observed along the Narli fault and at the southwest (SW) end of the East Anatolian Fault (EAF). The model highlights the critical role of geometric complexity and heterogeneous frictional conditions in facilitating continued propagation and influencing rupture speed. We also constrained the conditions that allowed for the rupture to jump from the Narli fault to EAF and to generate the delayed backpropagating rupture towards the SW. Our findings have important implications for understanding earthquake hazard and guiding future response efforts and demonstrates the value of physics-based dynamic modeling fused with near-field data in enhancing our understanding of earthquake mechanisms and improving risk assessment.

Advancements in simulation and formal methods-guided environment sampling have enabled the rigorous evaluation of machine learning models in a number of safety-critical scenarios, such as autonomous driving. Application of these environment sampling techniques towards improving the learned models themselves has yet to be fully exploited. In this work, we introduce a novel method for improving imitation-learned models in a semantically aware fashion by leveraging specification-guided sampling techniques as a means of aggregating expert data in new environments. Specifically, we create a set of formal specifications as a means of partitioning the space of possible environments into semantically similar regions, and identify elements of this partition where our learned imitation behaves most differently from the expert. We then aggregate expert data on environments in these identified regions, leading to more accurate imitation of the expert's behavior semantics. We instantiate our approach in a series of experiments in the CARLA driving simulator, and demonstrate that our approach leads to models that are more accurate than those learned with other environment sampling methods., Comment: 8 pages, under review

We investigate whether there is a variation in the orbital period of the short-period brown dwarf-mass KELT-1\,b, which is one of the best candidates to observe orbital decay. We obtain 19 high-precision transit light curves of the target using six different telescopes. We add all precise and complete transit light curves from open databases and the literature, as well as the available TESS observations from sectors 17 and 57, to form a transit timing variation (TTV) diagram spanning more than 10 years of observations. The analysis of the TTV diagram, however, is inconclusive in terms of a secular or periodic variation, hinting that the system might have synchronized. We update the transit ephemeris and determine an informative lower limit for the reduced tidal quality parameter of its host star of Q$_{\star}^{\prime} > (8.5 \pm 3.9) \times 10^{6}$ assuming that the stellar rotation is not yet synchronised. Using our new photometric observations, published light curves, the TESS data, archival radial velocities and broadband magnitudes, we also update the measured parameters of the system. The identification of a deterministic finite automaton (DFA) from labeled examples is a well-studied problem in the literature; however, prior work focuses on the identification of monolithic DFAs. Although monolithic DFAs provide accurate descriptions of systems' behavior, they lack simplicity and interpretability; moreover, they fail to capture sub-tasks realized by the system and introduce inductive biases away from the inherent decomposition of the overall task. In this paper, we present an algorithm for learning conjunctions of DFAs from labeled examples. Our approach extends an existing SAT-based method to systematically enumerate Pareto-optimal candidate solutions. We highlight the utility of our approach by integrating it with a state-of-the-art algorithm for learning DFAs from demonstrations. This study introduces a new chemical method for controlling the strain in methylammonium lead iodide (MAPbI3) perovskite crystals by varying the ratio of Pb(Ac)2 and PbCl2 in the precursor solution. To observe the effect on crystal strain, a combination of piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) is used. The PFM images show an increase in the average size of ferroelastic twin domains upon increasing the PbCl2 content, indicating an increase in crystal strain. The XRD spectra support this observation with strong crystal twinning features that appear in the spectra. This behaviour is caused by a strain gradient during the crystallization due to different evaporation rates of methylammonium acetate and methylammonium chloride as revealed by time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectroscopy (ToF-SIMS) and grazing incidince x-ray diffraction (GIXRD) measurements. Additional time-resolved photoluminescence (TRPL) show an increased carrier lifetime in the MAPbI3 films prepared with higher PbCl2 content, suggesting a decreased trap density in films with larger twin domain structures. The results demonstrate the potential of chemical strain engineering as an easy method for controlling strain-related effects in lead halide perovskites.

We study the transit timings of 10 exoplanets in order to investigate potential Transit Timing Variations (TTVs) in them. We model their available ground-based light curves, some presented here and others taken from the literature, and homogeneously measure the mid-transit times. We statistically compare our results with published values and find that the measurement errors agree. However, in terms of recovering the possible frequencies, homogeneous sets can be found to be more useful, of which no statistically relevant example has been found for the planets in our study. We corrected the ephemeris information of all ten planets we studied and provide these most precise light elements as references for future transit observations with space-borne and ground-based instruments. We found no evidence for secular or periodic changes in the orbital periods of the planets in our sample, including the ultra-short period WASP-103 b, whose orbit is expected to decay on an observable timescale. Therefore, we derive the lower limits for the reduced tidal quality factors (Q$^{\prime}_{\star}$) for the host stars based on best fitting quadratic functions to their timing data. Recent advances in generative adversarial networks have shown that it is possible to generate high-resolution and hyperrealistic images. However, the images produced by GANs are only as fair and representative as the datasets on which they are trained. In this paper, we propose a method for directly modifying a pre-trained StyleGAN2 model that can be used to generate a balanced set of images with respect to one (e.g., eyeglasses) or more attributes (e.g., gender and eyeglasses). Our method takes advantage of the style space of the StyleGAN2 model to perform disentangled control of the target attributes to be debiased. Our method does not require training additional models and directly debiases the GAN model, paving the way for its use in various downstream applications. Our experiments show that our method successfully debiases the GAN model within a few minutes without compromising the quality of the generated images. All-inorganic lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) show potential in optoelectronic devices, though their stability and efficiency have yet to improve. In this work, we explore the effect of bivalent metal site doping on the optoelectronic properties of CsPbX$_3$ (X = Br, Cl) perovskite NCs. First, the Pb$^{2+}$ ions in pristine CsPbBr$_3$ NC are partially substituted by Mn$^{2+}$ ions, and the alkaline earth metal strontium is then doped on both pristine and Mn$^{2+}$-substituted particles. The structural and photophysical properties of the pristine and the three doped NC variants have been investigated experimentally as well as exploiting first principles calculations. We found that a small percentage of Sr$^{2+}$-doping improved the photoluminescence quantum yield of the pristine particle by 8%, while it improved the Mn$^{2+}$-state emission by 7%. Perovskite NC film/poly(methyl methacrylate) composites with all four NC variants were used in a white light-emitting diode (WLED) and again both Sr$^{2+}$ doped NCs were found to increase the luminous efficiency of the WLED by ca 4 %. We attribute this performance enhancement to a reduced defect density as well as an attenuated microstrain in the local NC structure.

We study the most precise light curves of the planet-host HAT-P-36 that we obtained from the ground primarily with a brand-new 80 cm telescope very recently installed at Ankara University Kreiken Observatory of Turkey and also from the space with Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite. The main objective of the study is to analyze the Transit Timing Variations (TTV) observed in the hot-Jupiter type planet HAT-P-36 b, a strong candidate for orbital decay, based on our own observations as well as that have been acquired by professional and amateur observers since its discovery. HAT-P-36 displays out-of-transit variability as well as light curve anomalies during the transits of its planet due to stellar spots. We collected and detrended all the complete transit light curves we had access to from these anomalies, which we modeled with EXOFAST and measured the mid-transit times forming a homogeneous data set for a TTV analysis. We found an increase in the orbital period of HAT-P-36 b at a rate of 0.014 s per year from the best fitting quadratic function, which is only found in the TTV constructed by making use of the mid-transit times measured from detrended light curves, against an expectation of an orbital decay based on its parameters. We refined the values of these system parameters by modeling the Spectral Energy Distribution of the host star, its archival radial velocity observations from multiple instruments, and most precise transit light curves from the space and the ground covering a wide range of wavelengths with EXOFASTV2. We also analyzed the out-of-transit variability from TESS observations to search for potential rotational modulations through a frequency analysis. We report a statistically significant periodicity in the TESS light curve at 4.22 +/- 0.02 d, which might have been caused by instrumental systematics but should be tracked in the future observations of the target., Comment: 20 pages, 6 figures, 4 tables, accepted to Acta Astronomica in November 2021

WASP-43 b is one of the most important candidates for detecting an orbital decay. We investigate pieces of evidence for this expectation as variations in its transit timings, based on the ground and space observations. The data set includes the transit observations at the TUBITAK National Observatory of Turkey and Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). We present a global model of the system, based on the most precise photometry from space, ground, and archival radial velocity data. Using the homogenized data set and modeled light curves, we measure the mid-transit times for WASP-43 b. Our analysis agrees with a linear ephemeris for which we refine the light elements for future observations of the system. However, there is a negative difference between the transit timings derived from TESS data in two sectors (9 and 35) and a hint of an orbital period decrease in the entire data set. Both findings are statistically insignificant due to the short baseline of observations, which prevents us from drawing firm conclusions about the orbital decay of this ultra-short-period planet. However, assuming the effect of this decrease of the period in the planet's orbit, we derive a lower limit for the reduced tidal quality factor as Q'_* > (4.01 +_ 1.15). 10^5 from the best-fitting quadratic function. Finally, we calculate a probable rotational period for this system as 7.52 days from the out-of-transit flux variation in the TESS light curves due to spot modulation., Comment: 32 pages, 7 figures, 6 tables, accepted in the Astronomical Journal

In this study, the transit observations of HAT-P-16b and TrES-3b exoplanets were carried out at \c{C}\"U UZAYMER Observatory with a 50 cm Ritchey Chretien type telescope. By analyzing the light curves of both exoplanets, system parameters have been obtained with acceptable models. Some of these parameters for HAT-P-16 systems were found to be: M$_{P}$=4.172$\pm$0.163 M$_{J}$, R$_{P}$=1.309$\pm$0.111 R$_{J}$, a/R$_{*}$=7.1922$\pm$0.0017 and b=0.1003$\pm$0.1533 which are consistent with the values given in \cite{2010ApJ...720.1118B}. Also, for the TrES-3 system, the same parameters were calculated as M$_{P}$=1.959$\pm$0.111 M$_{J}$, R$_{P}$=1.320$\pm$0.169 R$_{J}$, a/R$_{*}$=6.0656$\pm$ 0.4899 and b=0.7892$\pm$0.0700. These values are also consistent with the values given in \cite{2007ApJ...663L..37O}. No significant Transit Timing Variations (TTV) was found as a result of the Lomb-Scargle (LS) periodogram for HAT-P-16b by using the transit times obtained from the transit light curves (False Alarm Probabilities -- FAP) = \%96). However, a significant periodicity was found at 32.38 days and a secondary periodicity was found at 41.07 days were determined as a result of the LS periodogram obtained from the TrES-3b data. We interpret that these periods with FAP of 3.41 \% and 1.88 \%, respectively, are close to the rotation period of the host star. The Sari\c{c}i\c{c}ek howardite meteorite shower consisting of 343 documented stones occurred on 2 September 2015 in Turkey and is the first documented howardite fall. Cosmogenic isotopes show that Sari\c{c}i\c{c}ek experienced a complex cosmic ray exposure history, exposed during ~12-14 Ma in a regolith near the surface of a parent asteroid, and that an ca.1 m sized meteoroid was launched by an impact 22 +/- 2 Ma ago to Earth (as did one third of all HED meteorites). SIMS dating of zircon and baddeleyite yielded 4550.4 +/- 2.5 Ma and 4553 +/- 8.8 Ma crystallization ages for the basaltic magma clasts. The apatite U-Pb age of 4525 +/- 17 Ma, K-Ar age of ~3.9 Ga, and the U,Th-He ages of 1.8 +/- 0.7 and 2.6 +/- 0.3 Ga are interpreted to represent thermal metamorphic and impact-related resetting ages, respectively. Petrographic, geochemical and O-, Cr- and Ti- isotopic studies confirm that Sari\c{c}i\c{c}ek belongs to the normal clan of HED meteorites. Petrographic observations and analysis of organic material indicate a small portion of carbonaceous chondrite material in the Sari\c{c}i\c{c}ek regolith and organic contamination of the meteorite after a few days on soil. Video observations of the fall show an atmospheric entry at 17.3 +/- 0.8 kms-1 from NW, fragmentations at 37, 33, 31 and 27 km altitude, and provide a pre-atmospheric orbit that is the first dynamical link between the normal HED meteorite clan and the inner Main Belt. Spectral data indicate the similarity of Sari\c{c}i\c{c}ek with the Vesta asteroid family spectra, a group of asteroids stretching to delivery resonances, which includes (4) Vesta. Dynamical modeling of meteoroid delivery to Earth shows that the disruption of a ca.1 km sized Vesta family asteroid or a ~10 km sized impact crater on Vesta is required to provide sufficient meteoroids <4 m in size to account for the influx of meteorites from this HED clan.

We announce the discovery of GPX-1 b, a transiting brown dwarf with a mass of $19.7\pm 1.6$ $M_{\mathrm{Jup}}$ and a radius of $1.47\pm0.10$ $R_{\mathrm{Jup}}$, the first sub-stellar object discovered by the Galactic Plane eXoplanet (GPX) survey. The brown dwarf transits a moderately bright ($V$ = 12.3 mag) fast-rotating F-type star with a projected rotational velocity $v\sin{ i_*}=40\pm10$ km/s. We use the isochrone placement algorithm to characterize the host star, which has effective temperature $7000\pm200$ K, mass $1.68\pm0.10$ $M_{\mathrm{Sun}}$, radius $1.56\pm0.10$ $R_{\mathrm{Sun}}$ and approximate age $0.27_{-0.15}^{+0.09}$ Gyr. GPX-1 b has an orbital period of $\sim$1.75 d, and a transit depth of $0.90\pm0.03$ %. We describe the GPX transit detection observations, subsequent photometric and speckle-interferometric follow-up observations, and SOPHIE spectroscopic measurements, which allowed us to establish the presence of a sub-stellar object around the host star. GPX-1 was observed at 30-min integrations by TESS in Sector 18, but the data is affected by blending with a 3.4 mag brighter star 42 arcsec away. GPX-1 b is one of about two dozen transiting brown dwarfs known to date, with a mass close to the theoretical brown dwarf/gas giant planet mass transition boundary. The phenomenon of localization usually happens due to the existence of disorder in a medium. Nevertheless, certain quantum systems allow dynamical localization solely due to the nature of internal interactions. We study a discrete time quantum walker which exhibits disorder free localization. The quantum walker moves on a one-dimensional lattice and interacts with on-site spins by coherently rotating them around a given axis at each step. Since the spins do not have dynamics of their own, the system poses the local spin components along the rotation axis as an extensive number of conserved moments. When the interaction is weak, the spread of the walker shows subdiffusive behaviour having downscaled ballistic tails in the evolving probability distribution at intermediate time scales. However, as the interaction gets stronger the walker gets exponentially localized in the complete absence of disorder in both lattice and initial state. Using a matrix-product-state ansatz, we investigate the relaxation and entanglement dynamics of the on-site spins due to their coupling with the quantum walker. Surprisingly, we find that even in the delocalized regime, entanglement growth and relaxation occur slowly unlike marjority of the other models displaying a localization transition., Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures

Detuned systems can spontaneously achieve a synchronous dynamics and display robust quantum correlations in different local and global dissipation regimes. Beyond the Markovian limit, information backflow from the environment becomes a crucial mechanism whose interplay with spontaneous synchronization is unknown. Considering a model of two coupled qubits, one of which interacts with a dissipative environment, we show that non-Markovianity is highly detrimental for the emergence of synchronization, for the latter can be delayed and hindered because of the presence of information backflow. Some of the most scientifically valuable transiting planets are those that were already known from radial velocity (RV) surveys. This is primarily because their orbits are well characterized and they preferentially orbit bright stars that are the targets of RV surveys. The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite ({\it TESS}) provides an opportunity to survey most of the known exoplanet systems in a systematic fashion to detect possible transits of their planets. HD~136352 (Nu$^2$~Lupi) is a naked-eye ($V = 5.78$) G-type main-sequence star that was discovered to host three planets with orbital periods of 11.6, 27.6, and 108.1 days via RV monitoring with the HARPS spectrograph. We present the detection and characterization of transits for the two inner planets of the HD~136352 system, revealing radii of $1.482^{+0.058}_{-0.056}$~$R_\oplus$ and $2.608^{+0.078}_{-0.077}$~$R_\oplus$ for planets b and c, respectively. We combine new HARPS observations with RV data from Keck/HIRES and the AAT, along with {\it TESS} photometry from Sector 12, to perform a complete analysis of the system parameters. The combined data analysis results in extracted bulk density values of $\rho_b = 7.8^{+1.2}_{-1.1}$~gcm$^{-3}$ and $\rho_c = 3.50^{+0.41}_{-0.36}$~gcm$^{-3}$ for planets b and c, respectively, thus placing them on either side of the radius valley. Given a global exponent $E$ for a black box group $\mathsf{Y}$ encrypting ${\rm SL}_2(\mathbb{F})$, where $\mathbb{F}$ is an unknown finite field of unknown odd characteristic, we construct, in probabilistic time polynomial in $\log E$, the isomorphisms \[ \mathsf{Y} \longleftrightarrow {\rm SL}_2(\mathsf{K}), \] where $\mathsf{K}$ is a black box field encrypting $\mathbb{F}$. Our algorithm makes no reference to any additional oracles. We also give similar algorithms for black box groups encrypting ${\rm PGL}_2(\mathbb{F})$, ${\rm PSL}_2(\mathbb{F})$.

We explore the environment-induced synchronization phenomenon in two-level systems in contact with a thermal dissipative environment. We first discuss the conditions under which synchronization emerges between a pair of two-level particles. That is, we analyze the impact of various model parameters on the emergence of (anti-)synchronization such as the environment temperature, the direct interaction between the particles, and the distance between them controlling the collectivity of the dissipation. We then enlarge the system to be composed of three two-level atoms to study the mutual synchronization between different particle pairs. Remarkably, we observe in this case a rich synchronization dynamics which stems from different possible spatial configurations of the atoms. Particularly, in sharp contrast with the two-atom case, we show that when the three atoms are in close proximity, appearance of anti-synchronization can be obstructed across all particle pairs due to frustration., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures. We have been carrying out a program for over five years to observe transits of selected exoplanets with 1-meter Turkish Telescope, T100 (Ba\c{s}t\"urk et al. 2014, 2015), by making use of the well-established defocusing technique (Southworth et al. 2009) to achieve high photometric precision. In this contribution, we review the results of our observing program in timing perspective. The basic idea behind defocusing technique is to have the advantage of posing the detector for longer duration in the observations of bright stars, otherwise observed within very short integration times. Then the effect of the photon noise is diminished, which dominates in the short cadence observations. Longer exposures also help in reducing the noise contribution of the atmospheric scintillation. Noise contributions of the imperfect tracking and flat-fielding are mitigated by integrating over a larger area on the detector as well. Although fewer images can be acquired in a given time, we argue that the timing precision is improved because of better photometric precision. We update the fundamental physical and orbital properties of the transiting hot-Saturn type exoplanet HAT-P-19b and its host star HAT-P-19 as a result of the global modeling of our high-precision transit light curves, an archive spectrum, radial velocity observations, brightness values from broadband photometry in different passbands, and the precise distance of the system derived from its Gaia parallax. We collected all the light curves obtained with ground-based photometry by amateur and professional observers, measured mid-transit times, analyzed their differences from calculated transit timings based on reference ephemeris information, which we update as a result. We haven't found any periodicity in the residuals of a linear trend, which we attribute to the accumulation of uncertainties in the reference mid-transit time and the orbital period. We discuss the potential origins of the variation in transit timings briefly and find stellar activity as the most likely cause. Transiting planets provide a unique opportunity to search for unseen additional bodies gravitationally bound to a system. It is possible to detect the motion of the center-of-mass of the observed transiting planet-host star duo due to the gravitational tugs of the unseen bodies from the Roemer delay. In order to achieve the goal, determination of the mid-times of the transits of the planets in high precision and accuracy and correct them for the orbital motion of the Earth is a primary condition. We consider higher-dimensional massive Brans-Dicke theory with Ricci-flat internal space. The background model is perturbed by a massive gravitating source which is pressureless in the external (our space) but has an arbitrary equation-of-state parameter $\Omega$ in the internal space. We obtain the exact solution of the system of linearized equations for the perturbations of the metric coefficients and scalar field. For a massless scalar field, relying on the fine-tuning between the Brans-Dicke parameter $\omega$ and $\Omega$, we demonstrate that (i) the model does not contradict gravitational tests relevant to the parameterized post-Newtonian parameter $\gamma$, and (ii) the scalar field is not ghost in the case of nonzero $|\Omega|\sim O(1)$ along with the natural value $|\omega|\sim O(1)$. In the general case of a massive scalar field, the metric coefficients acquire the Yukawa correction terms, where the Yukawa mass scale $m$ is defined by the mass of the scalar field. For the natural value $\omega\sim O(1)$, the inverse-square-law experiments impose the following restriction on the lower bound of the mass: $m\gtrsim 10^{-11}\,$GeV. The main purpose of our paper is to construct a viable Kaluza-Klein model satisfying the observable constraints. To this end, we investigate the six-dimensional model with spherical compactification of the internal space. Background matter is considered in the form of a perfect fluid with non-linear equations of state both in the external/our and internal spaces and the model is set to include an additional bare cosmological constant $\Lambda_6$. In the weak-field approximation, the background is perturbed by pressureless gravitating mass that is a static point-like particle. The non-linearity of the equations of state of a perfect fluid makes it possible to solve simultaneously a number of problems. The demand that the parameterized post-Newtonian parameter $\gamma$ be equal to 1 in this configuration, first, ensures compatibility with gravitational tests in the Solar system (deflection of light and time delay of radar echoes) at the same level of accuracy as General Relativity. Second, it translates into the absence of internal space variations so that the gravitational potential coincides exactly with the Newtonian one, securing the absence of the fifth force. In this paper, we focus on the design and verification of timed automata (TA). We introduce a new method for assisting construction and verification of TA models along with a tool implementing the proposed method, i.e., ATAC: Automated Timed Automata Construction. Our method provides two main functionalities, i.e., construction of TA models from descriptions and generation of temporal logic queries from specifications. Both description and specification sentences shall follow our well-defined structured natural language definition. TA models constructed from descriptions and temporal logic queries generated from specifications can be imported to UPPAAL, a verification tool for TA models. The goal is to accelerate the design phase for real-time systems by assisting the construction and verification of a formal model. In this paper, we prove various results on the topology of the Grassmannian of oriented 3-planes in Euclidean 6-space and compute its cohomology ring. We give self-contained proofs. We reveal the emergence of environment-induced spontaneous synchronization between two spin-1/2 quantum objects in a collision model setting. In particular, we determine the conditions for the dynamical establishment of synchronous evolution between local spin observables of a pair of spins undergoing open-system dynamics in the absence of an external drive. Exploiting the versatility of the collision model framework, we show that the formation of quantum or classical correlations between the principal spin pair are of no significant relevance to the manifestation of spontaneous quantum synchronization between them. In this paper, we introduce the classification of equivariant principal bundles over the 2-sphere. Isotropy representations provide tools for understanding the classification of equivariant principal bundles. We consider a $\Gamma$-equivariant principal $G$-bundle over $S^2$ with structural group $G$ a compact connected Lie group, and $\Gamma \subset SO(3)$ a finite group acting linearly on $S^2.$ We prove that the equivariant 1-skeleton $X \subset S^2$ over the singular set can be classified by means of representations of their isotropy representations. Then, we show that equivariant principal G-bundles over the $S^2 $ can be classified by a $\Gamma$-fixed set of homotopy classes of maps, and the underlying $G$-bundle $\xi$ over $S^2$ can be determined by first Chern class., Comment: 16 pages, 3 figures

We study a quantum walker on a one-dimensional lattice with a single defect site characterized by a phase. The spread and localization of discrete-time quantum walks starting at the impurity site are affected by the appearance of bound states and their reflection symmetry. We quantify the localization in terms of an effective localization length averaged over all eigenstates and an effective participation ratio after time evolution averaged over all initial states. We observe that the reduced coin system dynamics undergoes oscillations in the long-time limit, the frequencies of which are related to the unitary sublattice operator and the bound state quasi-energy differences. The oscillations give rise to non-Markovian evolution, which we quantify using the trace distance and entanglement based measures of non-Markovianity. Indeed, we reveal that the degree of the non-Markovian behavior is closely related to the emergence of bound states due to the phase impurity. We also show that the considered measures give qualitatively different results depending on the number and symmetries of supported bound states. Finally, comparing localization and non-Markovianity measures, we demonstrate that the degree of non-Markovianity becomes maximum when the walker is most localized in position space., Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures

Protecting quantum states from the decohering effects of the environment is of great importance for the development of quantum computation devices and quantum simulators. Here, we introduce a continuous dynamical decoupling protocol that enables us to protect the entangling gate operation between two qubits from the environmental noise. We present a simple model that involves two qubits which interact with each other with a strength that depends on their mutual distance and generates the entanglement among them, as well as in contact with an environment. The nature of the environment, that is, whether it acts as an individual or common bath to the qubits, is also controlled by the effective distance of qubits. Our results indicate that the introduced continuous dynamical decoupling scheme works well in protecting the entangling operation. The Kilodegree Extremely Little Telescope (KELT) project has been conducting a photometric survey for transiting planets orbiting bright stars for over ten years. The KELT images have a pixel scale of ~23"/pixel---very similar to that of NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS)---as well as a large point spread function, and the KELT reduction pipeline uses a weighted photometric aperture with radius 3'. At this angular scale, multiple stars are typically blended in the photometric apertures. In order to identify false positives and confirm transiting exoplanets, we have assembled a follow-up network (KELT-FUN) to conduct imaging with higher spatial resolution, cadence, and photometric precision than the KELT telescopes, as well as spectroscopic observations of the candidate host stars. The KELT-FUN team has followed-up over 1,600 planet candidates since 2011, resulting in more than 20 planet discoveries. The low-lying structures of the midshell $\nu g_{9/2}$ Ni isotopes $^{72}$Ni and $^{74}$Ni have been investigated at the RIBF facility in RIKEN within the EURICA collaboration. Previously unobserved low-lying states were accessed for the first time following $\beta$ decay of the mother nuclei $^{72}$Co and $^{74}$Co. As a result, we provide a complete picture in terms of the seniority scheme up to the first $(8^+)$ levels for both nuclei. The experimental results are compared to shell-model calculations in order to define to what extent the seniority quantum number is preserved in the first neutron $g_{9/2}$ shell. We find that the disappearance of the seniority isomerism in the $(8^+_1)$ states can be explained by a lowering of the seniority-four $(6^+)$ levels as predicted years ago. For $^{74}$Ni, the internal de-excitation pattern of the newly observed $(6^+_2)$ state supports a restoration of the normal seniority ordering up to spin $J=4$. This property, unexplained by the shell-model calculations, is in agreement with a dominance of the single-particle spherical regime near $^{78}$Ni.

This paper is a compressed summary of some principal definitions and concepts in the approach to the black box algebra being developed by the authors. We suggest that black box algebra could be useful in cryptanalysis of homomorphic encryption schemes, and that homomorphic encryption is an area of research where cryptography and black box algebra may benefit from exchange of ideas.

The quantum permutation algorithm provides computational speed-up over classical algorithms in determining the parity of a given cyclic permutation. For its $n$-qubit implementations, the number of required quantum gates scales quadratically with $n$ due to the quantum Fourier transforms included. We show here for the $n$-qubit case that the algorithm can be simplified so that it requires only $O(n)$ quantum gates, which theoretically reduces the complexity of the implementation. In order to test our results experimentally, we utilize IBM's $5$-qubit quantum processor to realize the algorithm by using the original and simplified recipes for the $2$-qubit case. It turns out that the latter results in a significantly higher success probability which allows us to verify the algorithm more precisely than the previous experimental realizations. The Burr III distribution is used in a wide variety of fields of lifetime data analysis, reliability theory, and financial literature, etc. It is defined on the positive axis and has two shape parameters, say $c$ and $k$. These shape parameters make the distribution quite flexible. They also control the tail behavior of the distribution. In this study, we extent the Burr III distribution to the real axis and also add a skewness parameter, say $\varepsilon$, with epsilon-skew extension approach. When the parameters $c$ and $k$ have a relation such that $ck \approx 1 $ or $ck < 1 $, it is skewed unimodal. Otherwise, it is skewed bimodal with the same level of peaks on the negative and positive sides of real line. Thus, ESBIII distribution can capture fitting the various data sets even when the number of parameters are three. Location and scale form of this distribution are also given. Some distributional properties of the new distribution are investigated. The maximum likelihood (ML) estimation method for the parameters of ESBIII is considered. The robustness properties of ML estimators are studied and also tail behaviour of ESBIII distribution is examined. We investigate coherent transport over a finite square lattice in which the growth of bond percolation clusters are subjected to an Achlioptas type selection process, i.e., whether a bond will be placed or not depends on the sizes of clusters it may potentially connect. Different than the standard percolation where the growth of discrete clusters are completely random, clusters in this case grow in correlation with one another. We show that certain values of correlation strength, if chosen in a way to suppress the growth of the largest cluster which actually results in an explosive growth later on, may lead to more efficient transports than in the case of standard percolation, satisfied that certain fraction of total possible bonds are present in the lattice. In this case transport efficiency increases as a power function of bond fraction in the vicinity of where effective transport begins. It turns out that the higher correlation strengths may also reduce the efficiency as well. We also compare our results with those of the incoherent transport and examine the average spreading of eigenstates for different bond fractions. In this way, we demonstrate that structural differences of discrete clusters due to different correlations result in different localization properties., Comment: 15 pages, 3 figures

Multi-instance multi-label (MIML) learning is a challenging problem in many aspects. Such learning approaches might be useful for many medical diagnosis applications including breast cancer detection and classification. In this study subset of digiPATH dataset (whole slide digital breast cancer histopathology images) are used for training and evaluation of six state-of-the-art MIML methods. At the end, performance comparison of these approaches are given by means of effective evaluation metrics. It is shown that MIML-kNN achieve the best performance that is %65.3 average precision, where most of other methods attain acceptable results as well.

We introduce the Peierls substitution to a two-dimensional discrete-time quantum walk on a square lattice to examine the spreading dynamics and the coin-position entanglement in the presence of an artificial gauge field. We use the ratio of the magnetic flux through the unit cell to the flux quantum as a control parameter. For a given flux ratio, we obtain faster spreading for a small number of steps and the walker tends to be highly localized around the origin. Moreover, the spreading of the walk can be suppressed and decreased within a limited time interval for specific rational values of flux ratio. When the flux ratio is an irrational number, even for a large number of steps, the spreading exhibit diffusive behavior rather than the well-known ballistic one as in the classical random walk and there is a significant probability of finding the walker at the origin. We also analyze the coin-position entanglement and show that the asymptotic behavior vanishes when the flux ratio is different from zero and the coin-position entanglement become nearly maximal in a periodic manner in a long time range., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, sections 3 and 4 revised

We estimated the scale-length of the thin disc with the J and W1 magnitudes of the most probable Red Clump (RC) stars in the Galactic plane, $-0\overset{^\circ}.5 \leq b \leq +0\overset{^\circ}.5$, in 19 equal sized fields with consecutive Galactic longitudes which cover the interval $90^\circ \leq l \leq 270^\circ$. Our results are constrained with respect to the solar space density ($D^*=5.95$), which indicates that the radial variation of the density is lower for higher Galactocentric distances. The scale-length of the thin disc is 2 kpc for the fields in the Galactic anticentre direction or close to this direction, while it decreases continuously in the second and third quadrants reaching to a lower limit of $h$ = 1.6 kpc at the Galactic longitudes $l$ = 90$^\circ$ and $l$ = 270$^\circ$. The distribution of the scale-length in 19 fields is consistent with the predictions from the Galaxia model and its variation with longitude is probably due to the inhomogeneity structure of the disc caused by the accreted material or other features such as warp and flare., Comment: 12 pages, including 5 figures and 2 tables, accepted for publication in PASA

We propose a scheme for perfect transfer of an unknown qubit state via the discrete-time quantum walk on a line or a circle. For this purpose, we introduce an additional coin operator which is applied at the end of the walk. This operator does not depend on the state to be transferred. We show that perfect state transfer over an arbitrary distance can be achieved only if the walk is driven by an identity or a flip coin operator. Other biased coin operators and Hadamard coin allow perfect state transfer over finite distances only. The present paper proposes a new and systematic approach to the so-called black box group methods in computational group theory. Instead of a single black box, we consider categories of black boxes and their morphisms. This makes new classes of black box problems accessible. For example, we can enrich black box groups by actions of outer automorphisms. As an example of application of this technique, we construct Frobenius maps on black box groups of untwisted Lie type in odd characteristic (Section 6) and inverse-transpose automorphisms on black box groups encrypting ${\rm (P)SL}_n(\mathbb{F}_q)$. One of the advantages of our approach is that it allows us to work in black box groups over finite fields of big characteristic. Another advantage is explanatory power of our methods; as an example, we explain Kantor's and Kassabov's construction of an involution in black box groups encrypting ${\rm SL}_2(2^n)$. Due to the nature of our work we also have to discuss a few methodological issues of the black box group theory.
