Pole-skipping refers to the special phenomenon that the pole and the zero of a retarded two-point Green's function coincide at certain points in momentum space. We study the pole-skipping phenomenon in holographic Green's functions of boundary operators that are dual to massive $p$-form fields and the dRGT massive gravitational fields in the AdS black hole background. Pole-skipping points for these systems are computed using the near horizon method. The relation between the pole-skipping points of massive fields and their massless counterparts is revealed. In particular, as the field mass $m$ is varied from zero to non-zero, the pole-skipping phenomenon undergoes an abrupt change with doubled pole-skipping points found in the massive case. This arises from the breaking of gauge invariance due to the mass term and the consequent appearance of more degrees of freedom. We recover the gauge invariance using the Stueckelberg formalism by introducing auxiliary dynamical fields. The extra pole-skipping points are identified to be associated with the Stueckelberg fields. We also observe that, as the mass varies, some pole-skipping points of the wave number $q$ may move from a non-physical region with complex $q$ to a physical region with real $q$., Comment: 50 pages, 1 figure

We investigate a new proposal connecting the geometry at various radial scales in asymptotic AdS spacetime with entanglement structure at corresponding real-space length scales of the boundary theory. With this proposal, the bulk IR geometry encodes the long-scale entanglement structure of the dual quantum system. We consider two distinct types of IR geometries, namely the spherical case and the hyperbolic case, which are intimately related to the physics of differential entropy and brane-world holography separately. We explore the corresponding change in the dual long-scale entanglement structures, utilizing the tools of the Ryu-Takayanagi formula, conditional mutual information, and partial entanglement entropy. The results indicate that modifying the IR geometry leads to a redistribution of entanglement at scales longer than a critical length determined by the location of the IR region, with the two modified IR geometries corresponding to two opposite ways of redistribution. We introduce a holographic model that exhibits a coexistence state of the Weyl semimetal and the topological nodal line state, providing us with a valuable tool to investigate the system's behavior in the strong coupling regime. Nine types of bulk solutions exhibiting different IR behaviors have been identified, corresponding to nine different types of boundary states. These nine states include four distinct phases, namely the Weyl-nodal phase, the gap-nodal phase, the Weyl gap phase and the gap-gap phase, four phase boundaries, which are the Weyl-Dirac phase, the gap-Dirac phase, the Dirac-gap phase and the Dirac-nodal phase, and finally a double critical point. A phase diagram is plotted that exhibits qualitative similarity to the one obtained in the weak coupling limit. The anomalous Hall conductivity, which serves as an order parameter, and the free energy are calculated, with the latter showing the continuity of the topological phase transitions within the system. We show that a reference frame transformation could turn a topologically trivial Dirac fermion into a topologically nontrivial Weyl semimetal. This is elucidated by the transformation of the Dirac equation into the equation for Weyl semimetals through specific infinitesimal local Lorentz transformations of the orthonormal basis. This kind of transformation, interpreted as a change of reference frame, could induce an observational effect that an axial gauge field and/or a vector U(1) gauge field appears effectively, which are in fact inertial forces in the non-inertial frame.The precise local Lorentz transformations and the movement of observers needed to realize the two additional fields are provided respectively. We investigate the bipartite and multipartite quantum entanglement structure in gravity and the dual holographic field theory based on the generalized Rindler wedge formalism. We deduce a separation theorem, which asserts that for subregions satisfying a certain geometric condition, the bipartite/multipartite squashed entanglement or the conditional entanglement of multipartite information vanishes, indicating that these subregions represent separable states with no quantum entanglement among them. We interpret this fact from the observer perspective in gravity and show how to probe the entanglement structure further in this framework by introducing a time cutoff in the gravitational spacetime. We investigate the entanglement between the eternal black hole and Hawking radiation. For this purpose, we utilize the doubly holographic theories and study the entanglement entropy of the radiation to find the Page curve consistent with the unitarity principle. Doubly holographic theories introduce two types of boundaries in the AdS bulk, namely the usual AdS boundary and the Planck brane. In such a setup, we calculate the entanglement entropy by examining two extremal surfaces: the Hartman-Maldacena (HM) surface and the island surface. The latter surface emerges when the island appears on the Planck brane. In this paper, we provide a detailed analysis of dyonic black holes with regard to the Page curve in the context of the doubly holographic setup. To begin with, we ascertain that the pertinent topological terms must be included in the Planck brane to describe the systems at finite density and magnetic field. Furthermore, we also develop a general numerical method to compute the time-dependent HM surface and achieve excellent agreement between the numerical results and analytical expressions. Utilizing numerical methodology, we find that the entanglement entropy of dyonic black holes exhibits unitary evolution over time, wherein it grows in early time and reaches saturation after the Page time. The initial growth can be explained by the HM surface, while the saturation is attributed to the island surface. The $n$-partite information (nI) is formulated as a measure of multi-partite entanglement. Field theory computation revealed that the sign of nI is indefinite for $n\geq 3$, while holographic studies conjectured a sign property that holographic nI is non-negative/non-positive for even/odd $n$, with tripartite information (TI, $n=3$) proved. We investigate the aspects of nI with holographic duality in hyperscaling violating geometry. We confirm the conjectured sign property for strips of equal length with equal separation distance, and disprove this conjecture for $n>3$ with general configurations. Therefore, nI in field theories and holography exhibits compatibility except for $n=3$. We also discuss other properties of holographic nI with analytic computation: the monotonicity, linearity, relation to hyperscaling violating parameters, temperature and UV cutoff effects, and the physical implications. It is doubtful that nI is an effective measure of entanglement considering the indefinite sign, non-monotonicity, and quasi-linearity of its holographic dual. Effective relativistic field theory models capable of realizing various gapless topological states are presented in this work. We study the topological phase transitions of the Weyl and nodal line semimetal states in effective field theories. When the one form field giving rise to the Weyl nodes lie perpendicular to the plane where the nodal ring lives, the nodal ring and Weyl nodes could coexist as the mirror symmetry responsible for the nodal ring is not broken. New phases including a three-node state and a triple degenerate state exist. The nodal ring is immediately destroyed when the one form field lies in the plane of the ring. However, we show that in an eight-component spinor model, Weyl nodes and nodal rings could still coexist even when the one form field is parallel to the plane, due to the expanded symmetry. Topological invariants are calculated which confirm the interesting nontrivial topology of the three-node state and the triple-degenerate node. We study the most general horizons of accelerating observers and find that in a general spacetime, only spacelike surfaces satisfying a global condition could become horizons of well-defined accelerating observers, which we name the Rindler-convexity condition. The entanglement entropy associated with a Rindler-convex region is proportional to the area of the enclosing surface. This observer physics provides a novel perspective to define a well-defined subregion in spacetime, named the generalized Rindler wedge, whose degrees of freedom should be fully encoded within the subregion. We propose the holographic interpretation of generalized Rindler wedges and provide evidence from the observer correspondence, the subregion subalgebra duality, and the equality of the entanglement entropy, respectively. The holographic superconductor is one of the most popular models in the context of applied holography. Despite what its name suggests, it does not describe a superconductor. On the contrary, the low temperature phase of its dual field theory is a superfluid with a spontaneously broken U(1) global symmetry. As already observed in the previous literature, a bona fide holographic superconductor can be constructed using mixed boundary conditions for the bulk gauge field. By exploiting this prescription, we study the near-equilibrium collective dynamics in the Higgs phase and reveal the characteristic features of the Anderson-Higgs mechanism. We show that second sound disappears from the spectrum and the gauge field acquires a finite energy gap of the order of the plasma frequency. We observe an overdamped to underdamped crossover for the Higgs mode which acquires a finite energy gap below $\approx T_c/2$, with $T_c$ the superconducting critical temperature. Interestingly, the energy gap of the Higgs mode at low temperature is significantly smaller than $2\Delta$, with $\Delta$ the superconducting energy gap. In the field of multimodal sentiment analysis (MSA), a few studies have leveraged the inherent modality correlation information stored in samples for self-supervised learning. However, they feed the training pairs in a random order without consideration of difficulty. Without human annotation, the generated training pairs of self-supervised learning often contain noise. If noisy or hard pairs are used for training at the easy stage, the model might be stuck in bad local optimum. In this paper, we inject curriculum learning into weakly supervised modality correlation learning. The weakly supervised correlation learning leverages the label information to generate scores for negative pairs to learn a more discriminative embedding space, where negative pairs are defined as two unimodal embeddings from different samples. To assist the correlation learning, we feed the training pairs to the model according to difficulty by the proposed curriculum learning, which consists of elaborately designed scoring and feeding functions. The scoring function computes the difficulty of pairs using pre-trained and current correlation predictors, where the pairs with large losses are defined as hard pairs. Notably, the hardest pairs are discarded in our algorithm, which are assumed as noisy pairs. Moreover, the feeding function takes the difference of correlation losses as feedback to determine the feeding actions (`stay', `step back', or `step forward'). Within the framework of holography, the Einstein-Maxwell action with Dirichlet boundary conditions corresponds to a dual conformal field theory in presence of an external gauge field. Nevertheless, in many real-world applications, e.g., magnetohydrodynamics, plasma physics, superconductors, etc. dynamical gauge fields and Coulomb interactions are fundamental. In this work, we consider bottom-up holographic models at finite magnetic field and (free) charge density in presence of dynamical boundary gauge fields which are introduced using mixed boundary conditions. We numerically study the spectrum of the lowest quasi-normal modes and successfully compare the obtained results to magnetohydrodynamics theory in $2+1$ dimensions. Surprisingly, as far as the electromagnetic coupling is small enough, we find perfect agreement even in the large magnetic field limit. We study the $(d+2)$-dimensional Hyperscaling Violating (HV) geometries in the presence of both a finite temperature $T$ and a UV cutoff $r_c$. This gravitational system is conjectured to be dual to $T\bar{T}$ like deformed HV QFTs. We consider the representative quantum entanglement quantity in holography, i.e. the entanglement entropy $S(A)$, and perform a complete analysis in all possible parameter ranges of the hyperscaling violation exponent $\theta$ and the critical dynamical exponent $z$ to study the effect of the temperature and the cutoff. We find that the temperature has a universal effect independent of the parameters: it enhances $S(A)$ in the small cutoff limit, while it is irrelevant in the large cutoff limit. For the cutoff effect, we find that the cutoff monotonically suppresses $S(A)$ where its behavior depends on the parameter range. As an application of the finite temperature analysis, we study the first law of entanglement entropy, $S_{T}-S_{T=0}\sim\ell^{\lambda}$, in the small subsystem size $\ell$ limit. We find that $\lambda$ interpolates between $\lambda=1+z$ in the small cutoff and $\lambda=3$ in the large cutoff, independent of the parameter range. We investigate the properties of the holographic entanglement entropy of the systems in which the $U(1)$ or the translational symmetry is broken \textit{spontaneously}. For this purpose, we define the entanglement density of the strip-subsystems and examine both the first law of entanglement entropy (FLEE) and the area theorem. We classify the conditions that FLEE and/or the area theorem obey and show that such a classification may be useful for characterizing the systems. We also find universalities from both FLEE and the area theorem. In the spontaneous symmetry breaking case, FLEE is always obeyed regardless of the type of symmetry: $U(1)$ or translation. For the translational symmetry, the area theorem is always violated when the symmetry is weakly broken, independent of the symmetry breaking patterns (explicit or spontaneous). We revisit the magneto-hydrodynamics in (2+1) dimensions and confirm that it is consistent with the quasi-normal modes of the (3+1) dimensional dyonic black holes in the most general set-up with finite density, magnetic field and wave vector. We investigate all possible modes (sound, shear, diffusion, cyclotron etc.) and their interplay. For the magneto-hydrodynamics we perform a complete and detailed analysis correcting some prefactors in the literature, which is important for the comparison with quasi-normal modes. For the quasi-normal mode computations in holography we identify the independent fluctuation variables of the dyonic black holes, which is nontrivial at finite density and magnetic field. As an application of the quasi-normal modes of the dyonic black holes we investigate a transport property, the diffusion constant. We find that the diffusion constant at finite density and magnetic field saturates the lower bound at low temperature. Based on previous work that topologically nontrivial gapless modes in relativistic hydrodynamics could be found by weakly breaking the energy momentum conservation, in this paper, we study the holographic system which produces the same hydrodynamic modes. In the hydrodynamic system, one possibility to obtain the energy momentum non-conservation is to couple the system to external gravitational fields, i.e. to observe the system in a special non-inertial frame. Similar to what happens in the hydrodynamic system, a non-inertial frame version of holography indeed produces the same topologically nontrivial gapless hydrodynamic modes. We also generalize the study of topological modes in relativistic hydrodynamics to the case with one extra U(1) current and find that more complicated topological phase diagrams could exist when we consider more possibilities of the mass terms. We investigate the upper bound of charge diffusion constant in holography. For this purpose, we apply the conjectured upper bound proposal related to the equilibration scales ($\omega_{\text{eq}}, k_{\text{eq}}$) to the Einstein-Maxwell-Axion model. ($\omega_{\text{eq}}, k_{\text{eq}}$) is defined as the collision point between the diffusive hydrodynamic mode and the first non-hydrodynamic mode, giving rise to the upper bound of the diffusion constant $D$ at low temperature $T$ as $D = \omega_{\text{eq}}/k_{\text{eq}}^2$. We show that the upper bound proposal also works for the charge diffusion and ($\omega_{\text{eq}}, k_{\text{eq}}$), at low $T$, is determined by $D$ and the scaling dimension $\Delta(0)$ of an infra-red operator as $(\omega_{\text{eq}}, \, k_{\text{eq}}^2) \,=\, (2 \pi T \Delta(0) \,, \omega_{\text{eq}}/D)$, as for other diffusion constants. However, for the charge diffusion, we find that the collision occurs at real $k_{\text{eq}}$, while it is complex for other diffusions. In order to examine the universality of the conjectured upper bound, we also introduce a higher derivative coupling to the Einstein-Maxwell-Axion model. This coupling is particularly interesting since it leads to the violation of the \textit{lower} bound of the charge diffusion constant so the correction may also have effects on the \textit{upper} bound of the charge diffusion. We present effective field theories for the weakly coupled Weyl-$\mathrm{Z}_2$ semimetal, as well as the holographic realization for the strongly coupled case. In both cases, the anomalous systems have both the chiral anomaly and the $\mathrm{Z}_2$ anomaly and possess topological quantum phase transitions from the Weyl-$\mathrm{Z}_2$ semimetal phases to partly or fully topological trivial phases. We find that the topological phase transition is characterized by the anomalous transport parameters, i.e. the anomalous Hall conductivity and the $\mathrm{Z}_2$ anomalous Hall conductivity. These two parameters are nonzero at the Weyl-$\mathrm{Z}_2$ semimetal phase and vanish at the topologically trivial phases. In the holographic case, the different behavior between the two anomalous transport coefficients is discussed. Link prediction for knowledge graphs aims to predict missing connections between entities. Prevailing methods are limited to a transductive setting and hard to process unseen entities. The recent proposed subgraph-based models provided alternatives to predict links from the subgraph structure surrounding a candidate triplet. However, these methods require abundant known facts of training triplets and perform poorly on relationships that only have a few triplets. In this paper, we propose Meta-iKG, a novel subgraph-based meta-learner for few-shot inductive relation reasoning. Meta-iKG utilizes local subgraphs to transfer subgraph-specific information and learn transferable patterns faster via meta gradients. In this way, we find the model can quickly adapt to few-shot relationships using only a handful of known facts with inductive settings. Moreover, we introduce a large-shot relation update procedure to traditional meta-learning to ensure that our model can generalize well both on few-shot and large-shot relations. We evaluate Meta-iKG on inductive benchmarks sampled from NELL and Freebase, and the results show that Meta-iKG outperforms the current state-of-the-art methods both in few-shot scenarios and standard inductive settings., Comment: under review

We investigate the Page curve for a non-standard black hole which is asymptotically non-flat/AdS/dS. For this purpose, we apply the island prescription to the charged linear dilaton black holes and analyze, in detail, the entanglement entropy of Hawking radiation for both the non-extremal case and the extremal case. In the non-extremal case, we find the Page curve consistent with the unitarity principle: at early times the entanglement entropy grows linearly in time without the island and at late times it is saturated double of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy in the presence of the island. We observe the Page time is universal for all different models studied by our method: $t_{\text{Page}}=\frac{3}{ \pi c}\frac{S_{\text{BH}}}{T_H}.$ For the extremal case, the island prescription provides the well defined entanglement entropy only with the island, which can not be obtained from the continuous limit of the non-extremal case. We investigate the breakdown of magneto-hydrodynamics at low temperature ($T$) with black holes whose extremal geometry is AdS$_2\times$R$^2$. The breakdown is identified by the equilibration scales ($\omega_{\text{eq}}, k_{\text{eq}}$) defined as the collision point between the diffusive hydrodynamic mode and the longest-lived non-hydrodynamic mode. We show ($\omega_{\text{eq}}, k_{\text{eq}}$) at low $T$ is determined by the diffusion constant $D$ and the scaling dimension $\Delta(0)$ of an infra-red operator: $\omega_{\text{eq}} = 2\pi T \Delta(0), \, k_{\text{eq}}^2 = \omega_{\text{eq}}/D$, where $\Delta(0)=1$ in the presence of magnetic fields. For the purpose of comparison, we have analytically shown $\Delta(0)=2$ for the axion model independent of the translational symmetry breaking pattern (explicit or spontaneous), which is complementary to previous numerical results. We investigate the properties of pole-skipping of the sound channel in which the translational symmetry is broken explicitly or spontaneously. For this purpose, we analyze, in detail, not only the holographic axion model, but also the magnetically charged black holes with two methods: the near-horizon analysis and quasi-normal mode computations. We find that the pole-skipping points are related with the chaotic properties, Lyapunov exponent ($\lambda_L$) and butterfly velocity ($v_B$), independently of the symmetry breaking patterns. We show that the diffusion constant ($D$) is bounded by $D \,\geqslant\, v_{B}^2/\lambda_{L}$, where $D$ is the energy diffusion (crystal diffusion) bound for explicit (spontaneous) symmetry breaking. We study topological modes in relativistic hydrodynamics by weakly breaking the conservation of energy momentum tensor. Several systems have been found to have topologically nontrivial crossing nodes in the spectrum of hydrodynamic modes and some of them are only topologically nontrivial with the protection of reflection symmetries in two directions. The nontrivial topology for all these systems is further confirmed from a calculation of the topological invariant. Associated transport properties and second order effects have also been studied for these systems. The non-conservation terms of the energy momentum tensor could come from an external effective symmetric tensor matter field or a gravitational field which could be generated by a specific non-inertial reference frame transformation from the original inertial reference frame. Finally we introduce a possible holographic realization of one of these systems. We show that gapless modes in relativistic hydrodynamics could become topologically nontrivial by weakly breaking the conservation of energy momentum tensor in a specific way. This system has topological semimetal-like crossing nodes in the spectrum of hydrodynamic modes that require the protection of a special combination of translational and boost symmetries in two spatial directions. We confirm the nontrivial topology from the existence of an undetermined Berry phase. These energy momentum non-conservation terms could naturally be produced by an external gravitational field that comes from a reference frame change from the original inertial frame, i.e. by fictitious forces in a non-inertial reference frame. This non-inertial frame is the rest frame of an accelerating observer moving along a trajectory of a helix. This suggests that topologically trivial modes could become nontrivial by being observed in a special non-inertial reference frame, and this fact could be verified in laboratories, in principle. The holographic duality allows to construct and study models of strongly coupled quantum matter via dual gravitational theories. In general such models are characterized by the absence of quasiparticles, hydrodynamic behavior and Planckian dissipation times. One particular interesting class of quantum materials are ungapped topological semimetals which have many interesting properties from Hall transport to topologically protected edge states. We review the application of the holographic duality to this type of quantum matter including the construction of holographic Weyl semimetals, nodal line semimetals, quantum phase transition to trivial states (ungapped and gapped), the holographic dual of Fermi arcs and how new unexpected transport properties, such as Hall viscosities arise. Due to the enormous requirement in public security and intelligent transportation system, searching an identical vehicle has become more and more important. Current studies usually treat vehicle as an integral object and then train a distance metric to measure the similarity among vehicles. However, these raw images may be exactly similar to ones with different identification and include some pixels in background that may disturb the distance metric learning. In this paper, we propose a novel and useful method to segment an original vehicle image into several discriminative foreground parts, and these parts consist of some fine grained regions that are named discriminative patches. After that, these parts combined with the raw image are fed into the proposed deep learning network. We can easily measure the similarity of two vehicle images by computing the Euclidean distance of the features from FC layer. Two main contributions of this paper are as follows. Firstly, a method is proposed to estimate if a patch in a raw vehicle image is discriminative or not. Secondly, a new Part-based Multi-Stream Model (PMSM) is designed and optimized for vehicle retrieval and re-identification tasks. We study the behavior of fermion spectral functions for the holographic topological Weyl and nodal line semimetals. We calculate the topological invariants from the Green functions of both holographic semimetals using the topological Hamiltonian method, which calculates topological invariants of strongly interacting systems from an effective Hamiltonian system with the same topological structure. We show a holographic model of a strongly coupled topological nodal line semimetal (NLSM) and find that the NLSM phase could go through a quantum phase transition to a topologically trivial state. The dual fermion spectral function shows that there are multiple Fermi surfaces each of which is a closed nodal loop in the NLSM phase. The topological structure in the bulk is induced by the IR interplay between the dual mass operator and the operator that deforms the topology of the Fermi surface. We study odd viscosity in a holographic model of a Weyl semimetal. The model is characterised by a quantum phase transition from a topological semimetal to a trivial semimetal state. Since the model is axisymmetric in three spatial dimensions there are two independent odd viscosities. Both odd viscosity coefficients are non-vanishing in the quantum critical region and non-zero only due to the mixed axial gravitational anomaly. It is therefore a novel example in which the mixed axial gravitational anomaly gives rise to a transport coefficient at first order in derivatives at finite temperature. We also compute anisotropic shear viscosities and show that one of them violates the KSS bound. Negative magnetoresistivity is a special magnetotransport property associated with chiral anomaly in four dimensional chiral anomalous systems, which refers to the transport behavior that the DC longitudinal magnetoresistivity decreases with increasing magnetic field. We calculate the longitudinal magnetoconductivity in the presence of backreactions of the magnetic field to gravity in holographic zero charge and axial charge density systems with and without axial charge dissipation. In the absence of axial charge dissipation, we find that the quantum critical conductivity grows with increasing magnetic field when the backreaction strength is larger than a critical value, in contrast to the monotonically decreasing behavior of quantum critical conductivity in the probe limit. With axial charge dissipation, we find the negative magnetoresistivity behavior. The DC longitudinal magnetoconductivity scales as $B$ in the large magnetic field limit, which deviates from the exact $B^2$ scaling of the probe limit result. We present a holographic model of a topological Weyl semimetal. A key ingredient is a time-reversal breaking parameter and a mass deformation. Upon varying the ratio of mass to time-reversal breaking parameter the model undergoes a quantum phase transition from a topologically nontrivial semimetal to a trivial one. The topological nontrivial semimetal is characterised by the presence of an anomalous Hall effect. Moderate length of time window can get the best accurate result in detecting the key incident time using extended spectral envelope. This paper presents a method to calculate the moderate length of time window. Two factors are mainly considered: (1) The significant vertical lines consist of negative elements of eigenvectors; (2) the least amount of interruption. The elements of eigenvectors are transformed into binary variable to eliminate the interruption of positive elements. Sine transform is introduced to highlight the significant vertical lines of negative elements. A novel Quality Index (QI) is proposed to measure the effect of different lengths of time window. A traffic incident analysis method based on extended spectral envelope (ESE) method is presented to detect the key incident time. Sensitivity analysis of parameters (the length of time window, the length of sliding window and the study period) are discussed on four real traffic incidents in Beijing. The results show that: (1) Moderate length of time window got the best accurate in detection. (2) The shorter the sliding window is, the more accurate the key incident time are detected. (3) If the study period is too short, the end time of an incident cannot be detected. Empirical studies show that the proposed method can effectively discover the key incident time, which can provide a theoretic basis for traffic incident management.

We study the magnetoconductivity induced by the axial anomaly via the chiral magnetic effect in strongly coupled holographic models. An important ingredient in our models is that the axial charge is non-conserved beyond the axial anomaly. We achieve this either by explicit symmetry breaking via a non-vanishing non-normalisable mode of an axially charged scalar or using a Stuckelberg field to make the AdS-bulk gauge field massive. The DC magnetoconductivites can be calculated analytically. They take a universal form in terms of gauge field mass at the horizon and quadratic dependence on the magnetic field. The axial charge relaxation time grows linearly with magnetic field in the large $B$ regime. Most strikingly positive magnetoconductivity is still present even when the relaxation times are short $\tau_5 \approx 1/(\pi T)$ and the axial charge can not be thought of as an approximate symmetry. In the $U(1)_A$ explicit breaking model, we also observe that the axial magnetic conductivity in the limit of strong symmetry breaking approaches the same universal value as for anomalous holographic superconductors in the zero temperature limit., Comment: 44 pages, 12 figures; v2: refs added, sec. 2.3 expanded

In four dimensions Weyl fermions possess a chiral anomaly which leads to several special features in the transport phenomena, such as the negative longitudinal magnetoresistivity. In this paper, we study its inverse, the longitudinal magnetoconductivity, in the case of a chiral anomalous system with a background magnetic field B using the linear response method in the hydrodynamic limit and from holography. Our hydrodynamic results show that in general we need to have energy, momentum and charge dissipations to get a finite DC longitudinal magnetoconductivity due to the existence of the chiral anomaly. Applying the formula that we get from hydrodynamics to the holographic system in the probe limit, we find that the result in the hydrodynamic regime matches that calculated from holography via Kubo formula. The holographic result shows that in an intermediate regime of B there is naturally a negative magnetoresistivity which decreases as 1/B. At small B direct calculations in the holographic system suggest that holography provides a new explanation for the small B positive magnetoresistivity behavior seen in experiment, i.e. the small B behavior comes from the quantum critical conductivity being affected by the chiral anomaly., Comment: 39 pages, 5 figures; v2: references added; v3: typos corrected, version to appear in JHEP

We study fermion pairing and condensation towards an ordered state in strongly coupled quantum critical systems with a holographic AdS/CFT dual. On the gravity side this is modeled by a system of charged fermion interacting through a BCS coupling. At finite density such a system has a BCS instability. We combine the relativistic version of mean-field BCS with the semi-classical fluid approximation for the many-body state of fermions. The resulting groundstate is the AdS equivalent of a charged neutron star with a superconducting core. The spectral function of the fermions confirms that the ground state is ordered through the condensation of the pair operator. A natural variant of the BCS star is shown to exist where the gap field couples Stueckelberg-like to the AdS Maxwell field. We study the holographic dual of a finite density system with both bosonic and fermionic degrees of freedom. There is no evidence for a universal bose-dominated ground state. We study lattice effects in strongly coupled systems of fermions at a finite density described by a holographic dual consisting of fermions in Anti-de-Sitter space in the presence of a Reissner-Nordstrom black hole. The lattice effect is encoded by a periodic modulation of the chemical potential with a wavelength of order of the intrinsic length scales of the system. This corresponds with a highly complicated "band structure" problem in AdS, which we only manage to solve in the weak potential limit. The "domain wall" fermions in AdS encoding for the Fermi surfaces in the boundary field theory diffract as usually against the periodic lattice, giving rise to band gaps. However, the deep infrared of the field theory as encoded by the near horizon AdS2 geometry in the bulk reacts in a surprising way to the weak potential. The hybridization of the fermions bulk dualizes into a linear combination of CFT1 "local quantum critical" propagators in the bulk, characterized by momentum dependent exponents displaced by lattice Umklapp vectors. This has the consequence that the metals showing quasi-Fermi surfaces cannot be localized in band insulators. In the AdS2 metal regime, where the conformal dimension of the fermionic operator is large and no Fermi surfaces are present at low T/\mu, the lattice gives rise to a characteristic dependence of the energy scaling as a function of momentum. We predict crossovers from a high energy standard momentum AdS2 scaling to a low energy regime where exponents found associated with momenta "backscattered" to a lower Brillioun zone in the extended zone scheme. We argue that the electron star and the AdS Dirac hair solution are two limits of the free charged Fermi gas in AdS. Spectral functions of holographic duals to probe fermions in the background of electron stars have a free parameter that quantifies the number of constituent fermions that make up the charge and energy density characterizing the electron star solution. The strict electron star limit takes this number to be infinite. The Dirac hair solution is the limit where this number is unity. This is evident in the behavior of the distribution of holographically dual Fermi surfaces. As we decrease the number of constituents in a fixed electron star background the number of Fermi surfaces also decreases. Despite intense efforts during the last 25 years, the physics of unconventional superconductors, including the cuprates with a very high transition temperature, is still a controversial subject. It is believed that superconductivity in many of these strongly correlated metallic systems originates in the physics of quantum phase transitions, but quite diverse perspectives have emerged on the fundamentals of the electron-pairing physics, ranging from Hertz style critical spin fluctuation glue to the holographic superconductivity of string theory. Here we demonstrate that the gross energy scaling differences that are behind these various pairing mechanisms are directly encoded in the frequency and temperature dependence of the dynamical pair susceptibility. The electrical and optical response of a field-effect device comprising a network of semiconductor-enriched single-wall carbon nanotubes, gated with sodium chloride solution is investigated. Field-effect is demonstrated in a device that uses facile fabrication techniques along with a small-ion as the gate electrolyte - and this is accomplished as a result of the semiconductor enhancement of the tubes. The optical transparency and electrical resistance of the device are modulated with gate voltage. A time-response study of the modulation of optical transparency and electrical resistance upon application of gate voltage suggests the percolative charge transport in the network. Also the ac response in the network is investigated as a function of frequency and temperature down to 5 K. We construct holographic superconductors from Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity in 3+1 dimensions with two adjustable couplings $\alpha$ and the charge $q$ carried by the scalar field. For the values of $\alpha$ and $q$ we consider, there is always a critical temperature at which a second order phase transition occurs between a hairy black hole and the AdS RN black hole in the canonical ensemble, which can be identified with the superconducting phase transition of the dual field theory. We calculate the electric conductivity of the dual superconductor and find that for the values of $\alpha$ and $q$ where $\alpha/q$ is small the dual superconductor has similar properties to the minimal model, while for the values of $\alpha$ and $q$ where $\alpha/q$ is large enough, the electric conductivity of the dual superconductor exhibits novel properties at low frequencies where it shows a "Drude Peak" in the real part of the conductivity., Comment: 25 pages, 13 figures; v2, typos corrected; v3, refs added, to appear in JHEP

We calculate the shear viscosity of strongly coupled field theories dual to Gauss-Bonnet gravity at zero temperature with nonzero chemical potential. We find that the ratio of the shear viscosity over the entropy density is $1/4\pi$, which is in accordance with the zero temperature limit of the ratio at nonzero temperatures. We also calculate the DC conductivity for this system at zero temperature and find that the real part of the DC conductivity vanishes up to a delta function, which is similar to the result in Einstein gravity. We show that at zero temperature, we can still have the conclusion that the shear viscosity is fully determined by the effective coupling of transverse gravitons in a kind of theories that the effective action of transverse gravitons can be written into a form of minimally coupled scalars with a deformed effective coupling., Comment: 23 pages, no figure; v2, refs added; v3, more refs added; v4, version to appear in JHEP

We consider a higher derivative gravity theory in four dimensions with a negative cosmological constant and show that vacuum solutions of both Lifshitz type and Schr\"{o}dinger type with arbitrary dynamical exponent z exist in this system. Then we find an analytic black hole solution which asymptotes to the vacuum Lifshitz solution with z=3/2 at a specific value of the coupling constant. We analyze the thermodynamic behavior of this black hole and find that the black hole has zero entropy while non-zero temperature, which is very similar to the case of BTZ black holes in new massive gravity at a specific coupling. In addition, we find that the three dimensional Lifshitz black hole recently found by E. We consider z=4 Horava-Lifshitz gravity in both 3+1 and 4+1 dimensions. We find black hole solutions in the IR region for a kind of z=4 Horava-Lifshitz gravity which is inherited from the new massive gravity in three dimensions and an analog of the new massive gravity in four dimensions through the quantum inheritance principle. We analyze thermodynamic properties for the black hole solutions for z=4 Horava-Lifshitz gravity. In this note we investigate the generalized massive gravity in asymptotically $AdS_3$ spacetime by combining the two mass terms of topological massive gravity and new massive gravity theory. We study the linearized excitations around the $AdS_3$ background and find that at a specific value of a certain combination of the two mass parameters (chiral line), one of the massive graviton solutions becomes the left moving massless mode. It is shown that the theory is chiral at this line under Brown-Henneaux boundary condition. Because of this degeneration of the gravitons the new log solution which has a logarithmic asymptotic behavior is also a solution to this gravity theory at the chiral line. The log boundary condition which was proposed to accommodate this log solution is proved to be consistent at this chiral line. The resulting theory is no longer chiral except at a special point on the chiral line, where another new solution with log-square asymptotic behavior exists. In this note we study the boundary conditions for the new massive gravity theory in asymptotically $AdS_3$ spacetime. We find that the Brown-Henneaux boundary conditions are consistent with the new massive gravity for all any value of the mass parameter. At the critical point where the central charge vanishes, the conserved charges vanish, too. This provides further evidence that the theory may be trivial at the critical point under Brown-Henneaux boundary conditions. The log boundary conditions are also examined and we find that we can have three kinds of log boundary conditions for this new massive gravity theory, each of which could be consistent at the critical point, while for other value of the mass parameter, the log gravity boundary condition is not consistent., Comment: 18pages, no figure, version to appear in JHEP

In this note we study the properties of linearized gravitational excitations in the new massive gravity theory in asymptotically $AdS_3$ spacetime and find that there is also a critical point for the mass parameter at which massive gravitons become massless as in topological massive gravity in $AdS_3$. However, at this critical point in the new massive gravity the energy of all branches of highest weight gravitons vanish and the central charges also vanish within the Brown-Henneaux boundary conditions. The new massive gravity in asymptotically $AdS_3$ spacetime seems to be trivial at this critical point under the Brown-Henneaux boundary conditions if the Brown-Henneaux boundary conditions can be consistent with this theory.
