Abstract

The astrochemistry of CO2 ice analogues has been a topic of intensive investigation due to the prevalence of CO2 throughout the interstellar medium and the Solar System, as well as the possibility of it acting as a carbon feedstock for the synthesis of larger, more complex organic molecules. In order to accurately discern the physico-chemical processes in which CO2 plays a role, it is necessary to have laboratory-generated spectra to compare against observational data acquired by ground- and space-based telescopes. A key factor which is known to influence the appearance of such spectra is temperature, especially when the spectra are acquired in the infrared and ultraviolet. In this present study, we describe the results of a systematic investigation looking into: (i) the influence of thermal annealing on the mid-IR and VUV absorption spectra of pure, unirradiated CO2 astrophysical ice analogues prepared at various temperatures, and (ii) the influence of temperature on the chemical products of electron irradiation of similar ices. Our results indicate that both mid-IR and VUV spectra of pure CO2 ices are sensitive to the structural and chemical changes induced by thermal annealing. Furthermore, using mid-IR spectroscopy, we have successfully identified the production of radiolytic daughter molecules as a result of 1 keV electron irradiation and the influence of temperature over this chemistry. Such results are directly applicable to studies on the chemistry of interstellar ices, comets, and icy lunar objects and may also be useful as reference data for forthcoming observational missions., Comment: Published in the 'Journal of Molecular Spectroscopy'. 22. Enhanced radial growth of Mg doped GaN nanorods: A combined experiment and first-principles based analysis

Abstract

We discuss the microstructural origin of enhanced radial growth in magnesium (Mg) doped gallium nitride (GaN) nanorods (NRs) using electron microscopy and \textit{first-principles} Density Functional Theory calculations. Experimentally, we find the Mg incorporation increases surface coverage of the grown samples and the height of NRs decreases as a consequence of an increase radial growth rate. We also observed the coalescence of NRs becomes prominent and the critical height of coalescence decreases with the increase in Mg concentration. From \textit{first-principles} calculations, we find the surface free energy of Mg doped surface reduces with increasing Mg concentration in the samples. The calculations further suggests a reduction in the diffusion barrier of Ga adatoms along [11$\overline{2}$0] on the side wall surface of the NRs, possibly the primary reason for the observed enhancement in the radial growth.

Abstract

The main idea of this paper is to represent shopping items through vectors because these vectors act as the base for building em- beddings for customers and shopping carts. Also, these vectors are input to the mathematical models that act as either a recommendation engine or help in targeting potential customers. We have used exponential family embeddings as the tool to construct two basic vectors - product embeddings and context vectors. Using the basic vectors, we build combined embeddings, trip embeddings and customer embeddings. Combined embeddings mix linguistic properties of product names with their shopping patterns. The customer embeddings establish an understand- ing of the buying pattern of customers in a group and help in building customer profile. For example a customer profile can represent customers frequently buying pet-food. Identifying such profiles can help us bring out offers and discounts. Similarly, trip embeddings are used to build trip profiles. People happen to buy similar set of products in a trip and hence their trip embeddings can be used to predict the next product they would like to buy. This is a novel technique and the first of its kind to make recommendation using product, trip and customer embeddings., Comment: Cicling 2017

This paper describes the game, design decisions in the form of elements that support learning, preliminary play-testing results, and future work.
