The stochastic gravitational wave background (SGWB) consists of an incoherent collection of waves from both astrophysical and cosmological sources. To distinguish the SGWB from noise, it is essential to verify its quadrupolar nature, exemplified by the cross-correlations among pairs of pulsars within a pulsar timing array, commonly referred to as the Hellings-Downs curve. We extend the concept of quadrupolar correlations to pairs of general gravitational wave detectors, classified by their antenna responses. This study involves space-based missions such as the laser interferometers LISA, Taiji, and TianQin, along with atom interferometers like AEDGE/MAGIS. We calculate modulations in their correlations due to orbital motions and relative orientations, which are characteristic markers for identifying the quadrupolar nature of the SGWB. Our findings identify optimal configurations for these missions, offer forecasts for the time needed to identify the quadrupolar nature of the SGWB, and are applicable to both space-space and space-terrestrial correlations., Comment: 19 pages, 6 figures

AI-based systems possess distinctive characteristics and introduce challenges in quality evaluation at the same time. Consequently, ensuring and validating AI software quality is of critical importance. In this paper, we present an effective AI software functional testing model to address this challenge. Specifically, we first present a comprehensive literature review of previous work, covering key facets of AI software testing processes. We then introduce a 3D classification model to systematically evaluate the image-based text extraction AI function, as well as test coverage criteria and complexity. To evaluate the performance of our proposed AI software quality test, we propose four evaluation metrics to cover different aspects. Finally, based on the proposed framework and defined metrics, a mobile Optical Character Recognition (OCR) case study is presented to demonstrate the framework's effectiveness and capability in assessing AI function quality.

Astrometric surveys offer us a method to search for elusive cosmic signatures, such as ultralight dark photon dark matter and gravitational waves, by observing the deflection to the apparent positions of the stars. The detection capabilities of such surveys rapidly decrease at low frequencies, because the signals become hardly distinguishable from the background motion of stars. In this work, we find that the background motion can be well described by a linear model over time, based on which we propose a linear background subtraction scheme. Compared to the conventional quadratic subtraction, the advantage of linear subtraction emerges within the frequency range below $6 \times 10^{-9}~{\rm Hz}$. Taking dark photons with purely gravitational interactions, dark photons with additional $U(1)_{B}$ or $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge interactions, and low-frequency gravitational waves as examples, we illustrate that the linear subtraction scheme can result in an enhancement of more than one order of magnitude in the exclusion limits of Gaia-like experiments in the low-frequency range., Comment: 18 pages, 2 figures, accepted by APJ

We introduce a block encoding method for mapping discrete subgroups to qubits on a quantum computer. This method is applicable to general discrete groups, including crystal-like subgroups such as $\mathbb{BI}$ of $SU(2)$ and $\mathbb{V}$ of $SU(3)$. We detail the construction of primitive gates -- the inversion gate, the group multiplication gate, the trace gate, and the group Fourier gate -- utilizing this encoding method for $\mathbb{BT}$ and for the first time $\mathbb{BI}$ group. We also provide resource estimations to extract the gluon viscosity. The inversion gates for $\mathbb{BT}$ and $\mathbb{BI}$ are benchmarked on the $\texttt{Baiwang}$ quantum computer with estimated fidelities of $40^{+5}_{-4}\%$ and $4^{+5}_{-3}\%$ respectively., Comment: 12 pages, 10 figures

The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) has revolutionized our ability to study black holes by providing unprecedented spatial resolution and unveiling horizon-scale details. With advancements leading to the next-generation EHT, there is potential to probe even deeper into the black hole's dark region, especially the inner shadow characterized by low-intensity foreground emissions from the jet, thanks to a significant enhancement in dynamic range by two orders of magnitude. The recent detection of gravitational waves from a binary merger involving a potential low-mass gap black hole (LMBH) by LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA (LVK) Collaboration motivates investigations into mechanisms beyond conventional stellar evolution theories to account for their existence. We study a mechanism in which dark matter (DM), through its capture and accumulation inside main sequence stars, induces the formation of black holes within the mass range of $[3, 5]M_\odot$. We examine the distribution of these LMBHs as a function of galaxy halo mass, particularly when paired with neutron stars. This gives a distinct signature that can be tested with future gravitational wave observations. Dark photons, aside from constituting non-relativistic dark matter, can also be generated relativistically through the decay or annihilation of other dark matter candidates, contributing to a galactic dark photon background. The production of dark photons tends to favor specific polarization modes, determined by the microscopic coupling between dark matter and dark photons. We leverage data obtained from previous searches for dark photon dark matter using a superconducting radio-frequency cavity to explore galactic dark photon fluxes. The interplay of anisotropic directions and Earth's rotation introduces a diurnal modulation of signals within the cavities, manifesting distinct variation patterns for longitudinal and transverse modes. Our findings highlight the efficacy of superconducting radio-frequency cavities, characterized by significantly high-quality factors, as powerful telescopes for detecting galactic dark photons, unveiling a novel avenue in the indirect search for dark matter through multi-messenger astronomy., Comment: 16 pages, 3 figures

We simultaneously study gravitational waves (GWs) and free axions emitted from axionic string-wall networks in the early universe using advanced 3D lattice simulations. Our simulations start before the Peccei-Quinn phase transition and end with the destruction of string-wall networks below the QCD scale. The axion dark matter (DM) relic abundance radiated from string-wall networks are updated and refined for the scenarios of $N_{\rm DW}>1$. In this scenario, we observe that the GW spectrum is almost independent of the bias term and $N_{\rm DW}$, and $\Omega_{\rm GW}h^2\propto f^{1.29}(f^{-0.43})$ in the IR and middle-frequency regions. After considering the constraints from DM relic abundance, we found that the QCD axion model predicts undetectable GW emissions, and the axion-like particles model allows for a detectable GW signal in the nano-Hertz to the milli-Hertz frequency range corresponding to axion masses range from KeV to TeV. Electromagnetic resonant systems, such as cavities or LC circuits, have emerged as powerful detectors for probing ultralight boson dark matter and high-frequency gravitational waves. However, the limited resonant bandwidth of conventional single-mode resonators, imposed by quantum fluctuations, necessitates numerous scan steps to cover broad unexplored frequency regions. The incorporation of multiple auxiliary modes can realize a broadband detector while maintaining a substantial signal response. The broadened sensitive width can be on the same order as the resonant frequency, encompassing several orders of the source frequency for heterodyne detection, where a background cavity mode transitions into another. Very recently, several pulsar timing array collaborations, including CPTA, EPTA, and NANOGrav, reported their results from searches for an isotropic stochastic gravitational wave background (SGWB), with each finding positive evidence for SGWB. In this work, we assessed the credibility of interpreting the Hellings-Downs correlated free-spectrum process of EPTA, PPTA, and NANOGrav as either the result of supermassive black hole binary mergers or various stochastic SGWB sources that originated in the early Universe, including first-order phase transitions, cosmic strings, domain walls, and large-amplitude curvature perturbations. Atomic spin-wave (SW) memory is a building block for quantum repeater. However, due to decoherence caused by atomic motions and magnetic-field gradients, SW retrieval efficiency decays with storage time. Slow magnetic-field fluctuations (SMFFs) lead to shot-to-shot phase noises of SWs, but have not been considered in previous repeater protocols. Here, we develop a SW model including a homogeneous phase noise caused by SMFFs, and then reveal that such phase noise induces decoherence of single-excitation entanglement between two atomic ensembles in a repeater link. For verify this conclusion, we experimentally prepare single-excitation entanglement between two SWs in a cold atomic ensemble and observe entanglement decoherence induced by SMFFs. Limited by SMFFs, the evaluated lifetime of the single-excitation entanglement over a repeater link is ~135 ms, even if the link uses optical-lattice atoms as nodes. Dark photons have emerged as promising candidates for dark matter, and their search is a top priority in particle physics, astrophysics, and cosmology. We report the first use of a tunable niobium superconducting radio-frequency cavity for a scan search of dark photon dark matter with innovative data analysis techniques. We mechanically adjusted the resonant frequency of a cavity submerged in liquid helium at a temperature of $2$ K, and scanned the dark photon mass over a frequency range of $1.37$ MHz centered at $1.3$ GHz. Our study leveraged the superconducting radio-frequency cavity's remarkably high quality factors of approximately $10^{10}$, resulting in the most stringent constraints to date on a substantial portion of the exclusion parameter space on the kinetic mixing coefficient $\epsilon$ between dark photons and electromagnetic photons, yielding a value of $\epsilon < 2.2 \times 10^{-16}$., Comment: 14 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication in PRL

Ultralight dark photons constitute a well-motivated candidate for dark matter. A coherent electromagnetic wave is expected to be induced by dark photons when coupled with Standard-Model photons through kinetic mixing mechanism, and should be spatially correlated within the de Broglie wavelength of dark photons. Here we report the first search for correlated dark-photon signals using a long-baseline network of 15 atomic magnetometers, which are situated in two separated meter-scale shield rooms with a distance of about 1700 km. Both the network's multiple sensors and the shields large size significantly enhance the expected dark-photon electromagnetic signals, and long-baseline measurements confidently reduce many local noise sources. Using this network, we constrain the kinetic mixing coefficient of dark photon dark matter over the mass range 4.1 feV-2.1 peV, which represents the most stringent constraints derived from any terrestrial experiments operating over the aforementioned mass range. We explore the possibility that domain wall networks generate the stochastic gravitational wave background (SGWB) observed as a strong common power-law process in the Data Release-2 of Parkes Pulsar Timing Array. We find that a broad range of parameters, specifically wall tension around $\sigma_{\textrm{DW}} \sim (29-414 , \textrm{TeV})^3$ and wall-decay temperature within $T_d \sim 20-257 , \textrm{MeV}$, can explain this phenomenon at a $68\%$ credible level. Meanwhile, the same parameters could ease the Hubble tension if particles from these domain wall networks decay into dark radiation. We establish a direct analytical relationship, $\Omega_{\textrm{GW}}(f_p,T_0) h^2 \sim \Omega_{\textrm{rad}} h^2 ( \Omega_\nu \Delta N_{\textrm{eff}})^2$, to illustrate this coincidence, underlining its importance in the underlying physics and potential applicability to a wider range of models and data. We present the explicit construction of the effective field theory (EFT) of standard model mass eigenstates. The EFT, which is invariant under $U(1)_{\text{e.m.}}\times SU(3)_c$, is constructed based on the on-shell method and Young Tableau technique. This EFT serves as a new formulation of the Higgs EFT (HEFT), which can describe the infrared effects of new physics at the electroweak symmetry-breaking phase with greater conciseness. The current HEFT operator basis has a clear physical interpretation, making it more accessible for research in phenomenology. A complete list of HEFT operator bases for any-point vertices up to any dimension could be provided, and three- and four-point bases are provided as examples. Additionally, this framework realized as a Mathematica program can be used to construct the EFT of any type of dark matter or particles with any spin.

We establish a systematic construction of the on-shell amplitude/operator basis for Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) in $D=4$ spacetime dimensions and with an arbitrary number of flavors $N_f$. For kinematic factors, we employ spinor-helicity variables to construct the soft blocks, which are local amplitudes satisfying the Adler's zero condition, as well as to take into account the reduction in the kinematic basis due to the Gram determinant, which arises at $O(p^{10})$ when the number of multiplicity $N$ in an amplitude becomes large: $N>D$. For flavor factors, we include group-theoretic relations at small $N_f$, $N_f\le N$, which decreases the flavor basis. The result is obtained by adapting the Young tensor method of constructing the operator basis for generic effective field theories to the case of non-linearly realized symmetries. Working in the massless quark limit, we present purely mesonic operators for both even- and odd-parity at $O(p^6)$ and $O(p^8)$ for $N=6$ and arbitrary $N_f$, and establish a direct correspondence between the amplitude basis and the operator basis. An axion cloud surrounding a supermassive black hole can be naturally produced through the superradiance process. Its existence can be examined by the axion induced birefringence effect. It predicts an oscillation of the electric vector position angle of linearly polarized radiations. Stringent constraints of the existence of the axion in a particular mass window has been obtained based on the recent Event Horizon Telescope measurement on M87$^\star$. The future Very-Long-Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) observations will be able to measure the vicinity of many supermassive black holes, thus it opens the possibility to search for the existence of axions in a wide mass regime. In this paper, we study how different black hole properties and accretion flows influence the signatures of the axion induced birefringence. We include the impacts of black hole inclination angles, spins, magnetic fields, plasma velocity distributions, the thickness of the accretion flows. We pay special attention to characterize the washout effects induced by the finite thickness of the accretion flows and the lensed photons. We search for stochastic gravitational wave background emitted from cosmic strings using the Parkes Pulsar Timing Array data over 15 years. While we find that the common power-law excess revealed by several pulsar timing array experiments might be accounted for by the gravitational wave background from cosmic strings, the lack of the characteristic Hellings-Downs correlation cannot establish its physical origin yet. The constraints on the cosmic string model parameters are thus derived with conservative assumption that the common power-law excess is due to unknown background. Two representative cosmic string models with different loop distribution functions are considered. We obtain constraints on the dimensionless string tension parameter $G\mu<10^{-11}\sim10^{-10}$, which is more stringent by two orders of magnitude than that obtained by the high-frequency LIGO-Virgo experiment for one model, and less stringent for the other. The results provide the chance to test the Grand unified theories, with the spontaneous symmetry breaking scale of $U(1)$ being two-to-three orders of magnitude below $10^{16}$ GeV. The pulsar timing array experiments are thus quite complementary to the LIGO-Virgo experiment in probing the cosmic strings and the underlying beyond standard model physics in the early Universe., Comment: 10 pages, 8 figures, 4 tables. The W Mass determination at the Tevatron CDF experiment reported a deviation from the SM expectation at 7$\sigma$ level. We discuss a few possible interpretations and their collider implications. We perform electroweak global fits under various frameworks and assumptions. We consider three types of electroweak global fits in the effective-field-theory framework: the $S$-$T$, the $S$-$T$-$\delta G_F$, and the eight-parameter flavor-universal one. We discuss the amounts of tensions between different $m_W$ measurements reflected in these fits and the corresponding shifts in central values of these parameters. With these electroweak fit pictures in hand, we present a few different classes of models and discuss their compatibility with these results. We find that while explaining the $m_W$ discrepancy, the single gauge boson extensions face strong LHC direct search constraints unless the $Z'$ is fermiophobic (leptophobic) which can be realized if extra vector fermions (leptons) mix with the SM fermions (leptons). Vector-like top partners can partially generate the needed shift to the electroweak observables. The compatibility with top squark is also studied in detail. We find non-degenerate top squark soft masses enhance the needed operator coefficients, enabling an allowed explanation compatible with current LHC measurements. Detection of a gravitational-wave signal of non-astrophysical origin would be a landmark discovery, potentially providing a significant clue to some of our most basic, big-picture scientific questions about the Universe. In this contribution to the Snowmass 2021 process we review theoretical developments in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) with a focus on effects at the dimension-8 level and beyond. We review the theoretical advances that led to the complete construction of the operator bases for the dimension-8 and dimension-9 SMEFT Lagrangians. We discuss the possibility of obtaining all-orders results in the $1/\Lambda$ expansion for certain SMEFT observables as well as the current status of renormalization group running and implications for positivity, and briefly present the on-shell approach to constructing SMEFT amplitudes. We fully solve the long-standing problem of operator basis construction for fields with any masses and spins. Based on the on-shell method, we propose a novel method to systematically construct a complete set of lowest dimensional amplitude bases at any given dimension through semi-standard Young tableaus of Lorentz subgroup $SU(2)_r$ and global symmetry $U(N)$ ($N$ is the number of external legs), which can be directly mapped into physical operator bases. We first construct a complete set of monomial bases whose dimension is not the lowest and a redundant set of bases that always contains a complete set of amplitude bases with the lowest dimension. Then we decompose the bases of the redundant set into the monomial bases from low to high dimension and eliminate the linear correlation bases. Finally, the bases with the lowest dimension can be picked up. We also propose a matrix projection method to construct the massive amplitude bases involving identical particles. The operator bases of a generic massive effective field theory can be efficiently constructed by the computer programs. The nature of dark matter remains obscure in spite of decades of experimental efforts. The mass of dark matter candidates can span a wide range, and its coupling with the Standard Model sector remains uncertain. All these unknowns make the etection of dark matter extremely challenging. Ultralight dark matter, with $m \sim10^{-22}$ eV, is proposed to reconcile the disagreements between observations and predictions from simulations of small-scale structures in the cold dark matter paradigm, while remaining consistent with other observations. Because of its large de Broglie wavelength and large local occupation number within galaxies, ultralight dark matter behaves like a coherently oscillating background field with an oscillating frequency dependent on its mass. If the dark matter particle is a spin-1 dark photon, such as the $U(1)_B$ or $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge boson, it can induce an external oscillating force and lead to displacements of test masses. Such an effect would be observable in the form of periodic variations in the arrival times of radio pulses from highly stable millisecond pulsars. In this study, we search for evidence of ultralight dark photon dark matter (DPDM) using 14-year high-precision observations of 26 pulsars collected with the Parkes Pulsar Timing Array. While no statistically significant signal is found, we place constraints on coupling constants for the $U(1)_B$ and $U(1)_{B-L}$ DPDM. Compared with other experiments, the limits on the dimensionless coupling constant $\epsilon$ achieved in our study are improved by up to two orders of magnitude when the dark photon mass is smaller than $3\times10^{-22}$~eV ($10^{-22}$~eV) for the $U(1)_{B}$ ($U(1)_{B-L}$) scenario., Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures

We construct the general partial wave amplitude basis for the $N\to M$ scattering, which consists of Poincar\'e Clebsch-Gordan coefficients, with Lorentz invariant forms given in terms of spinor-helicity variables. The inner product of the Clebsch-Gordan coefficients is defined, which converts on-shell phase space integration into an algebraic problem. We also develop the technique of partial wave expansions of arbitrary amplitudes, including those with infrared divergence. These are applied to the computation of anomalous dimension matrix for general effective operators, where unitarity cuts for the loop amplitudes, with an arbitrary number of external particles, are obtained via partial wave expansion., Comment: 6 pages, 1 figure, 1 table

We develop formalisms for a network of vector sensors, sensitive to certain spatial components of the signals, to identify the properties of a light axion or a dark photon background. These bosonic fields contribute to vector-like signals in the detectors, including effective magnetic fields triggering the spin precession, effective electric currents in a shielded room, and forces on the matter. The interplay between a pair of vector sensors and a baseline that separates them can potentially uncover rich information of the bosons, including angular distribution, polarization modes, source localization, and macroscopic circular polarization. Quantum interfaces (QIs) that generate entanglement between a multimode atomic memory and a photon forms a multiplexed repeater node and hold promise to greatly improve quantum repeater rates. Recently, the temporal multimode spin-wave memory that is entangled with a photon has been demonstrated with cold atoms. However, due to additional noise generated in multimode operation, the fidelity of spin-wave-photon entanglement significantly decreases with the mode number. So far, the improvement on temporal-multimode entanglement fidelity via suppressing the additional noise remains unexplored. Here, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a scheme that can suppress the additional noise of a temporally-multiplexed QI. The scheme uses an asymmetric channel to collect the photons coming and retrieving from the temporally-multiplexed QI. For making comparisons, we also set up a QI that uses symmetric channel for the photon collections. When the QIs store 14 modes, the measured Bell parameter S for the QIs using the asymmetric and the symmetric photon-collection channels are 2.36+/-0.03 and 2.24+/-0.04, respectively, showing that the QI using the asymmetric channel gives rise to a 3% increase in entanglement fidelity, i.e., a 1.7-fold decrease in the additional noise, compared with the QI using the symmetric one. On the other hand, the 14-mode entanglement QIs that use the asymmetric and symmetric collections preserve the violation of a Bell inequality for storage times up to 25 us and 20 us, respectively, showing that the asymmetric QI has a higher entanglement storage performance.

Boosted dark particles of astrophysical origin can lead to nonstandard nuclear or electron recoil signals in direct detection experiments. %It has been shown that this interpretation successfully explains the excess of keV electron recoil events recently observed by the XENON1T experiment, and that a daily modulation of the signal in the detector is expected. We conduct an investigation of the daily modulation feature of a potential future signal of this type. A cosmological first-order phase transition is expected to produce a stochastic gravitational wave background. If the phase transition temperature is on the MeV scale, the power spectrum of the induced stochastic gravitational waves peaks around nanohertz frequencies, and can thus be probed with high-precision pulsar timing observations. We search for such a stochastic gravitational wave background with the latest data set of the Parkes Pulsar Timing Array. We find no evidence for a Hellings-Downs spatial correlation as expected for a stochastic gravitational wave background. Therefore, we present constraints on first-order phase transition model parameters. Our analysis shows that pulsar timing is particularly sensitive to the low-temperature ($T \sim 1 - 100$ MeV) phase transition with a duration $(\beta/H_*)^{-1}\sim 10^{-2}-10^{-1}$ and therefore can be used to constrain the dark and QCD phase transitions., Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures, 2 tables

The measurement of gravitational waves produced by binary black-hole mergers at the Advanced LIGO has encouraged extensive studies on the stochastic gravitational wave background. Recent studies have focused on gravitational wave sources made of the same species, such as mergers from binary primordial black holes or those from binary astrophysical black holes. In this paper, we study a new possibility -- the stochastic gravitational wave background produced by mergers of one primordial black hole and one astrophysical black hole. Such systems are necessarily present if primordial black holes exist. We study the isotropic gravitational wave background produced through the history of the Universe. We find it is very challenging to detect such a signal. The hitherto unprecedented angular resolution of the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) has created exciting opportunities in the search for new physics. Recently, the linear polarization of radiation emitted near the supermassive black hole M87$^\star$ was measured on four separate days, precisely enabling tests of the existence of a dense axion cloud produced by a spinning black hole. The presence of an axion cloud leads to a frequency-independent oscillation in the electric vector position angle (EVPA) of this linear polarization. For a nearly face-on M87$^\star$, this oscillation in the EVPA appears as a propagating wave along the photon ring. In this paper, we leverage the azimuthal distribution of EVPA measured by the EHT to study the axion-photon coupling. We study the possibility of probing new physics accounting for $(g-2)_\mu$ anomaly and gravitational waves with pulsar timing array measurements. The model we consider is either a light gauge boson or neutral scalar interacting with muons. We show that the parameter spaces of dark $U(1)$ model with kinetic mixing explaining $(g-2)_\mu$ anomaly can realize a first-order phase transition, and the yield-produced gravitational wave may address the common red noise observed in the NANOGrav 12.5-yr dataset., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, comments welcome!

We first propose a general method to construct the complete set of on-shell operator bases involving massive particles with any spins. To incorporate the non-abelian little groups of massive particles, the on-shell scattering amplitude basis should be factorized into two parts: one is charged, and the other one is neutral under little groups of massive particles. The complete set of these two parts can be systematically constructed by choosing some specific Young diagrams of Lorentz subgroup and global symmetry $U(N)$ respectively ($N$ is the number of external particles), without the equation of motion and integration by part redundancy. Thus the complete massive amplitude bases without any redundancies can be obtained by combining these two complete sets. Some examples are presented to explicitly demonstrate this method. This method is applicable for constructing amplitude bases involving identical particles, and all the bases can be constructed automatically by computer programs based on it., Comment: 12 pages

We generalize the recently proposed $\mathcal{P T}$-symmetric axion haloscope to a larger array with more $\mathcal{P T}$-symmetric structures. By broadening the response bandwidth of the signal without increasing the readout noise, the optimized scan rate of the axion haloscope is significantly enhanced, as well as is the signal power. Furthermore, we show that the robustness of the detector towards the variations of the array coupling is the strongest when a binary tree structure is introduced which contains a largely enhanced $\mathcal{P T}$ symmetry. The multiple allowed probing sensors can further increase the scan rate by a factor of the sensors' number due to the correlation of the signals. This type of array can strongly boost the search for an axion compared to single-mode resonant detection. The enhancement to the scan rate becomes the most manifest when applied to the proposed detection using a superconducting radio-frequency cavity with an ac magnetic field where most of the parameter space of the QCD axion above kHz can be probed., Comment: 9 pages, 11 figures, published version in PRR

We show how current LIGO data is able to probe interesting theories beyond the Standard Model, particularly Dark Sectors where a Dark Higgs triggers symmetry breaking via a first-order phase transition. We use publicly available LIGO O2 data to illustrate how these sectors, even if disconnected from the Standard Model, can be probed by Gravitational Wave detectors. We link the LIGO measurements with the model content and mass scale of the Dark Sector, finding that current O2 data is testing a broad set of scenarios where the breaking of $SU(N)$ theories with $N_f$ fermions is triggered by a Dark Higgs at scales $\Lambda \simeq 10^8 - 10^9$ GeV with reasonable parameters for the scalar potential., Comment: v2: Affiliation corrected, references added.9 pages, 3 figures

We describe a general framework to depict the space of Lorentz invariant effective field theories, which we call the landscape, given any kind of gauge symmetry and field content. Various operator bases in the landscape can be systematically constructed, with the help of amplitude-operator correspondence, to emphasize different aspects: operator independence (y-basis), flavor relation (p-basis) and conserved quantum number (j-basis). The transformation matrices among the bases encode model-independent properties of the operators, such as implications on their UV origin. We study electroweak symmetry breaking in minimal composite Higgs models $SU(4)/Sp(4)$ with purely fermionic UV completions based on a confining Hypercolor gauge group and find that the extra Higgs potential from the underlying preon mass can destruct the correlation between the mass of Higgs and composite partners. Thus the composite partners can be very heavy for successful electroweak symmetry breaking without enhancing the separation between the new physical scale and Higgs VEV. So this kind of model can be easily realized by ordinary strong dynamics theories without artificial assumptions and more likely consistent with lattice simulations. The UV completion of partial compositeness predicts a light singlet Goldstone boson which interacts with QCD and electroweak gauge bosons through Wess-Zumino-Witten terms. It can be produced through gluon fusion at LHC and decay into gauge boson pairs. We briefly discuss its phenomenology and derive its bounds from LHC searches., Comment: 11 pages, four figures

Ultra-light bosons such as axions or axion-like particles (ALPs), are promising candidates to solve the dark matter problem. A unique way to detect such ALPs is to search for the periodic oscillation feature of the position angles of linearly polarized photons emitted from the regions where ALP dark matter forms a solitonic core. In this work, we use the high-resolution polarimetric measurements of the radiation near the super-massive black hole (SMBH) in the center of the Milky Way, i.e., Sagittarius A$^\star$ (Sgr A$^\star$), by a sub-array of the Event Horizon Telescope to search for the ultra-light ALPs. We derive upper limits on the ALP-photon coupling of $\sim 10^{-12}{\rm GeV^{-1}}$ for ALP masses of $m\sim (10^{-19}-10^{-18})$eV. Our results are stronger than that derived from the observations of SN1987A and a population of supernovae in the mass window of ($10^{-19}-10^{-17}$)eV. The XENON1T collaboration reported an excess of the low-energy electron recoil events between 1 and 7 keV. We explore the possibility to explain such an anomaly by the MeV-scale dark matter (DM) heated by the interior of the Sun due to the same DM-electron interaction as in the detector. The kinetic energies of heated DM particles can reach a few keV, and can potentially account for the excess signals detected by XENON1T. We study different form factors of the DM-electron interactions, $F(q)\propto q^i$ with $i=0,1,2$ and $q$ being the momentum exchange, and find that for all these cases the inclusion of the Sun-heated DM component improves the fit to the XENON1T data. The inferred DM-electron scattering cross section (at $q=\alpha m_e$ where $\alpha$ is the fine structure constant and $m_e$ is electron mass) is from $\sim 10^{-38}$~cm$^2$ (for $i=0$) to $\sim 10^{-42}$~cm$^2$ (for $i=2$). We also derive constraints on the DM-electron cross sections for different form factors, which are stronger than previous results with similar assumptions. We emphasize that the Sun-heated DM scenario relies on the minimum assumption on DM models, which serves as a general explanation of the XENON1T anomaly via DM-electron interaction. The spectrum of the Sun-heated DM is typically soft comparing to other boosted DM, so the small recoil events are expected to be abundant in this scenario. We propose boosted dark matter (BDM) as a possible explanation for the excess of keV electron recoil events observed by XENON1T. BDM particles have velocities much larger than those typical of virialized dark matter, and, as such, BDM-electron scattering can naturally produce keV electron recoils. We show that the required BDM-electron scattering cross sections can be easily realized in a simple model with a heavy vector mediator. Though these cross sections are too large for BDM to escape from the Sun, the BDM flux can originate from the Galactic Center or from halo dark matter annihilations. We propose a new type of search for a pseudoscalar particle $\eta$ pair produced via an off-shell Higgs, $pp\to h^*\to \eta\eta$. The search is motivated by a composite Higgs model in which the $\eta$ is extremely narrow and decays almost exclusively into $Z\gamma$ in the mass range $65$ GeV$\lesssim m_\eta \lesssim 160$ GeV. We devise an analysis strategy to observe the novel $Z\gamma Z\gamma$ channel and estimate potential bounds on the Higgs-$\eta$ coupling. The experimental sensitivity to the signatures depends on the power to identify fake photons and on the ability to predict large photon multiplicities. We describe the on-shell method to deriving the Renormalization Group (RG) evolution of Wilson coefficients of high dimensional operators at one loop, which is a necessary part in the on-shell construction of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT), and exceptionally efficient based on the amplitude basis in hand. The UV divergence is obtained by firstly calculating the coefficients of scalar bubble integrals by unitary cuts, then subtracting the IR divergence in the massless bubbles, which can be easily read from the collinear factors we obtained for the Standard Model fields. Examples of deriving the anomalous dimensions at dimension six are presented in a pedagogical manner. We present a complete list of the dimension 8 operator basis in the standard model effective field theory using group theoretic techniques in a systematic and automated way. We adopt a new form of operators in terms of the irreducible representations of the Lorentz group, and identify the Lorentz structures as states in a $SU(N)$ group. In this way, redundancy from equations of motion is absent and that from integration-by-part is treated using the fact that the independent Lorentz basis forms an invariant subspace of the $SU(N)$ group. We also decompose operators into the ones with definite permutation symmetries among flavor indices to deal with subtlety from repeated fields. For the first time, we provide the explicit form of independent flavor-specified operators in a systematic way. We derive the generalized partial wave expansion for $M \rightarrow N$ scattering amplitude in terms of spinor helicity variables. The basis amplitudes of the expansion with definite angular momentum $j$ consist of the Poincare Clebsch-Gordan coefficients, while $j$ constrains the UV physics that could generate the corresponding operators at tree level. Moreover, we obtain a series of selection rules that restrict the anomalous dimension matrix of effective operators and the way how effective operators contribute to some $2 \rightarrow N$ amplitudes at the loop level., Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures, 3 tables

We find the exchange symmetry between left and right handed top quark in composite Higgs model with partial compositeness is efficient to soften the Higgs potential and reduce fine tuning. This symmetry can keep the Higgs potential in top sector invariant under trigonometric parity $\sin (h/f) \leftrightarrow \cos (h/f)$ and thus the Higgs quadratic divergences can be completely cancelled, resulting a UV insensitive Higgs potential. We explicitly construct the minimal left-right symmetric model based on coset space $SO(6)/SO(5)$ which is locally isomorphic to $SU(4)/Sp(4)$ and thus has well defined fermionic UV completion. This UV completion can automatically keep Higgs potential in gauge sector finite even the gauge sector breaks this discrete symmetry. We find that the vector mesons can be very heavy while the colored top partners are relatively light ($>1.5$ TeV) to obtain a light Higgs., Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures

We present a novel mechanism for realistic electroweak symmetry breaking in Twin Higgs/neutral naturalness models where the $Z_2$ exchange symmetry can remain exactly unbroken. The exchange symmetry in the Yukawa sector will be implemented as an "N-trigonometric parity" $\sin N \frac{h}{f} \leftrightarrow \cos N \frac{h}{f}$. The Yukawa couplings will be suppressed leading to an N-suppressed Higgs quadratic term, without significantly affecting the quartic. We present a concrete implementation of this idea for general (odd) values of N using maximal symmetry, and a realistic benchmark model for $N=3$. We find that the tuning in the resulting Higgs potential is negligible, and also show that two-loop N-suppression violating gauge contributions can be sufficiently small. The Higgs potential and its couplings in top sector are different from other neutral naturalness models, which are the main predictions of our model and can be tested in colliders., Comment: 10 pages, 2 appendices
