This book shows teachers how to reclaim their students' attention and, in the process, help them absorb information and stay on task. There are over 30 tips that are practical, not always obvious, and well tested. Three parts focus on: (1) "HotTips for Opening the Lesson" (e.g., fill the room with I.D. posters, ask opening questions, get visual, create infomercials, and preview coming attractions); (2) "HotTips for Conducting the Lesson" (e.g., speak to the best self, pick up the pace, promote intelligent student engagement, dramatize one's point, put the content in motion, engage one's heart, elicit thinking, draw on guided peer teaching, and celebrate success); and (3) "HotTips for Closing the Lesson or Unit" (interview the expert, pop quizzes, collect a ticket out the door, and go walkabout).
