Gramian-based model order reduction methods, like balanced truncation, and interpolation-based methods, such as H2-optimal reduction, are two important types of model reduction algorithms. Although both are known for their accuracy, they are often seen as two different approaches. This paper shows that these two methods are closely related, with Gramian-based reduction being roughly an interpolation problem, and vice versa. For Galerkin projection, we find that when the reduced model has enough order to capture the significant eigenvalues of the controllability or observability Gramian, preserving these eigenvalues becomes an interpolation problem. In this case, both Gramian-based and interpolation-based model reduction methods produce the same transfer function but with different state-space realizations. When the reduced model's order is too small to capture all significant eigenvalues, the methods begin to differ, and the difference depends on the eigenvalues that were left out. In the case of Petrov-Galerkin projection, if the reduced model's order is large enough to capture the significant Hankel singular values, balanced truncation becomes the same as H2-optimal model order reduction. Again, both methods give the same transfer function but with different state-space realizations. When the order is smaller, the methods diverge, with the difference depending on the truncated Hankel singular values. Numerical examples are provided to support these findings, showing that Gramian-based and interpolation-based model reduction methods are more connected than previously thought and can be viewed as approximations of each other.

Linear quadratic output systems constitute an important class of dynamical systems with numerous practical applications. When the order of these models is exceptionally high, simulating and analyzing these systems becomes computationally prohibitive. In such instances, model order reduction offers an effective solution by approximating the original high-order system with a reduced-order model while preserving the system's essential characteristics. In frequency-limited model order reduction, the objective is to maintain the frequency response of the original system within a specified frequency range in the reduced-order model. In this paper, a mathematical expression for the frequency-limited $\mathcal{H}_2$ norm is derived, which quantifies the error within the desired frequency interval. Subsequently, the necessary conditions for a local optimum of the frequency-limited $\mathcal{H}_2$ norm of the error are derived. The inherent difficulty in satisfying these conditions within a Petrov-Galerkin projection framework is also discussed. Based on the optimality conditions and Petrov-Galerkin projection, a stationary point iteration algorithm is proposed that enforces three of the four optimality conditions upon convergence. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the algorithm's effectiveness in accurately approximating the original high-order model within the specified frequency interval.

An important class of dynamical systems with several practical applications is linear systems with quadratic outputs. These models have the same state equation as standard linear time-invariant systems but differ in their output equations, which are nonlinear quadratic functions of the system states. When dealing with models of exceptionally high order, the computational demands for simulation and analysis can become overwhelming. In such cases, model order reduction proves to be a useful technique, as it allows for constructing a reduced-order model that accurately represents the essential characteristics of the original high-order system while significantly simplifying its complexity. In time-limited model order reduction, the main goal is to maintain the output response of the original system within a specific time range in the reduced-order model. To assess the error within this time interval, a mathematical expression for the time-limited $\mathcal{H}_2$-norm is derived in this paper. This norm acts as a measure of the accuracy of the reduced-order model within the specified time range. Subsequently, the necessary conditions for achieving a local optimum of the time-limited $\mathcal{H}_2$ norm error are derived. The inherent inability to satisfy these optimality conditions within the Petrov-Galerkin projection framework is also discussed. After that, a stationary point iteration algorithm based on the optimality conditions and Petrov-Galerkin projection is proposed. Upon convergence, this algorithm fulfills three of the four optimality conditions. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, a numerical example is provided that showcases its ability to effectively approximate the original high-order model within the desired time interval.

Model order reduction involves constructing a reduced-order approximation of a high-order model while retaining its essential characteristics. This reduced-order model serves as a substitute for the original one in various applications such as simulation, analysis, and design. Often, there's a need to maintain high accuracy within a specific time or frequency interval, while errors beyond this limit can be tolerated. This paper addresses time-limited and frequency-limited model order reduction scenarios for linear systems with quadratic outputs, by generalizing the recently introduced structure-preserving balanced truncation algorithm. To that end, limited interval system Gramians are defined, and the corresponding generalized Lyapunov equations governing their computation are derived. Additionally, low-rank solutions for these equations are investigated. Next, balanced truncation algorithms are proposed for time-limited and frequency-limited scenarios, each utilizing its corresponding limited-interval system Gramians. The proposed algorithms ensure accurate results within specified time and frequency intervals while preserving the quadratic-output structure. Two benchmark numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the algorithms, showcasing their ability to achieve superior accuracy within the desired time or frequency interval.

In this paper, we first study in detail the relationship between minimal linear codes and cutting blocking sets, which were recently introduced by Bonini and Borello, and then completely characterize minimal linear codes as cutting blocking sets. As a direct result, minimal projective codes of dimension $3$ and $t$-fold blocking sets with $t\ge 2$ in projective planes are identical objects. Some bounds on the parameters of minimal codes are derived from this characterization. This confirms a recent conjecture by Alfarano, Borello and Neri in [a geometric characterization of minimal codes and their asymptotic performance, arXiv:1911.11738, 2019] about a lower bound of the minimum distance of a minimal code. Using this new link between minimal codes and blocking sets, we also present new general primary and secondary constructions of minimal linear codes. As a result, infinite families of minimal linear codes not satisfying the Aschikhmin-Barg's condition are obtained. In addition to this, the weight distributions of two subfamilies of the proposed minimal linear codes are established. We study properties of stationary determinantal point processes $\X$ on $\Z$ from different points of views. It is proved that $\X\cap \N$ is almost surely Bohr-dense and good universal for almost everywhere convergence in $L^1$, and that $\X$ is not syndetic but $\X +\X = \mathbb{Z}$. For the associated centered random field, we obtain a sub-Gaussian property, a Salem-Littlewood inequality and a Khintchine-Kahane inequality. Results can be generalized to $\Z^d$.

Rectification and diffusion of non-interacting self-propelled particles is numerically investigated in a two-dimensional corrugated channel. From numerical simulations, we obtain the average velocity and the effective diffusion coefficient. It is found that the self-propelled particles can be rectified by the self-propelled velocity. There exist optimal values of the parameters (the self-propelled velocity, the translational diffusion constant, and the height of the potential) at which the average velocity takes its maximal value. There exists an optimal translational diffusion at which the effective diffusion constant is maximal. The self-propelled velocity can strongly increase the effective diffusion, while the large rotational diffusion rate can strongly suppress the effective diffusion., Comment: 16pages, 11figures

We present the current controlled motion of dynamic soliton embedded in spin wave background in ferromagnetic nanowire. With the stronger breather character we get the novel magnetic rogue wave and clarify its formation mechanism. The generation of magnetic rogue wave is mainly arose from the accumulation of energy and magnons toward to its central part. We also observe that the spin-polarized current can control the exchange rate of magnons between envelope soliton and background, and the critical current condition is obtained analytically. Even more interesting is that the spin-transfer torque plays the completely opposite role for the cases of below and above the critical value., Comment: 5 figures

We investigate the dynamics of domain wall in ferromagnetic nanowire with spin-transfer torque. The critical current condition is obtained analytically. Below the critical current, we get the static domain wall solution which shows that the spin-polarized current can't drive domain wall moving continuously. In this case, the spin-transfer torque plays both the anti-precession and anti-damping roles, which counteracts not only the spin-precession driven by the effective field but also Gilbert damping to the moment. Above the critical value, the dynamics of domain wall exhibits the novel screw-pitch effect characterized by the temporal oscillation of domain wall velocity and width, respectively. Both the theoretical analysis and numerical simulation demonstrate that this novel phenomenon arise from the conjunctive action of Gilbert-damping and spin-transfer torque. We also find that the roles of spin-transfer torque are entirely contrary for the cases of below and above the critical current.

We studied the static and dynamic domain wall solutions of spinor Bose-Einstein condensates trapped in an optical lattice. The single and double domain wall solutions are constructed analytically. Our results show that the magnetic field and light-induced dipolar interactions play an important role for both the formation of different domain walls and the adjusting of domain wall width and velocity. Moreover, these interactions can drive the motion of domain wall of Bose ferromagnet systems similar to that driven by the external magnetic field or the spin-polarized current in fermion ferromagnet., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures

In the presence of a linear potential with an arbitrary time-dependence, Hirota method is developed carefully for applying into the effective mean-field model of quasi-one-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensation with repulsive interaction. We obtain the exact nonautonomous soliton solution (NSS) analytically. These solutions show that the time-dependent potential can affect the velocity of NSS. In some special cases the velocity has the character of both increase and oscillation with time. A detail analysis for the asymptotic behaviour of solutions shows that the collision of two NSSs is elastic., Comment: 6 pages

We study the magnetic soliton dynamics of spinor Bose-Einstein condensates in an optical lattice which results in an effective Hamiltonian of anisotropic pseudospin chain. An equation of nonlinear Schr\"odinger type is derived and exact magnetic soliton solutions are obtained analytically by means of Hirota method. Our results show that the critical external field is needed for creating the magnetic soliton in spinor Bose-Einstein condensates. The soliton size, velocity and shape frequency can be controlled in practical experiment by adjusting the magnetic field. Moreover, the elastic collision of two solitons is investigated in detail.

We study the interaction of a nonlinear spin-wave and magnetic soliton in a uniaxial anisotropic ferromagnet. By means of a reasonable assumption and a straightforward Darboux transformation one- and two-soliton solutions in a nonlinear spin-wave background are obtained analytically, and their properties are discussed in detail. In the background of a nonlinear spin wave the amplitude of the envelope soliton has the spatial and temporal period, and soliton can be trapped only in space. The amplitude and wave number of spin wave have the different contribution to the width, velocity, and the amplitude of soliton solutions, respectively. The envelope of solution hold the shape of soliton, and the amplitude of each envelope soliton keeps invariability before and after collision which shows the elastic collision of two envelope soliton in the background of a nonlinear spin wave.

We present a family of nonautonomous bright and dark soliton solutions of Bose-Einstein condensates with the time-dependent scattering length in an expulsive parabolic potential. These solutions show that the amplitude, width, and velocity of soliton can be manipulated by adjusting the atomic scattering length via Feshbach resonance. For the cases of both attractive and repulsive interaction, the total particles number is a conservation quantity, but the peak (dip) density can be controlled by the Feshbach resonance parameter. Especially, we investigate the modulation instability process in uniform Bose-Einstein condensates with attractive interaction and nonvanishing background, and clarify that the procedure of pattern formation is in fact the superposition of the perturbed dark and bright solitary wave. At last, we give the analytical expressions of nonautonomous dark one- and two-soliton solutions for repulsive interaction, and investigate their properties analytically., Comment: 6 pages

We investigate the interaction of a periodic solution and one-soliton solution for the spin-polarized current in a uniaxial ferromagnetic nanowire. The amplitude and wave number of the periodic solution for the spin current have the different contribution to the width, velocity, and the amplitude of soliton solution, respectively. Moreover, we found that the soliton can be trapped only in space with a proper condition. At last we analyze the modulation instability and discuss dark solitary wave propagation for the spin current on the background of a periodic solution. Employing a simple, straightforward Darboux transformation we construct exact N-soliton solution for anisotropic spin chain driven by a external magnetic field in linear wave background. As a special case the explicit one- and two-soliton solution dressed by the linear wave corresponding to magnon in quantum theory is obtained analytically and its property is discussed in detail. The dispersion law, effective soliton mass, and the energy of each soliton are investigated as well.
