Search

Numerical simulation serves as a cornerstone in scientific modeling, yet the process of fine-tuning simulation parameters poses significant challenges. Conventionally, parameter adjustment relies on extensive numerical simulations, data analysis, and expert insights, resulting in substantial computational costs and low efficiency. The emergence of deep learning in recent years has provided promising avenues for more efficient exploration of parameter spaces. However, existing approaches often lack intuitive methods for precise parameter adjustment and optimization. To tackle these challenges, we introduce ParamsDrag, a model that facilitates parameter space exploration through direct interaction with visualizations. Inspired by DragGAN, our ParamsDrag model operates in three steps. First, the generative component of ParamsDrag generates visualizations based on the input simulation parameters. Second, by directly dragging structure-related features in the visualizations, users can intuitively understand the controlling effect of different parameters. Third, with the understanding from the earlier step, users can steer ParamsDrag to produce dynamic visual outcomes. Through experiments conducted on real-world simulations and comparisons with state-of-the-art deep learning-based approaches, we demonstrate the efficacy of our solution., Comment: To be published in Proc. The P\"ochl-Teller effective potential mimics an asymptotically de Sitter black hole bounded by an event horizon and a cosmological one. Owing to the benefit of being analytically soluble, the asymptotic quasinormal modes in the modified P\"oschl-Teller potential have been extensively explored in the literature by various authors, and the results bear distinct features. Specifically, for small discontinuities placed at the potential's peak, Skakala and Visser showed that the resulting modes lie primarily along the imaginary frequency axis, in line with the numerical results encountered for most black hole metrics. However, it was also suggested that under ultraviolet perturbations, asymptotic modes are expected to lie parallel to the real axis, closely intervening with recent developments on spectral instability. In this work, by numerical and semi-analytical approaches, we aim to resolve the above apparent ambiguity. The numerical scheme is based on an improved version of the matrix method, which is implemented in compactified hyperboloidal coordinates on the Chebyshev grid. It is demonstrated that both asymptotic behaviors indeed agree with the numerical findings, which is somewhat to one's surprise. Specifically, we report the emergence of a novel branch of purely imaginary modes originating from a bifurcation in the asymptotic quasinormal mode spectrum. Moreover, we demonstrate how the bifurcation and asymptotic modes evolve as the discontinuity moves away from the potential's peak, furnishing a dynamic picture as the spectral instability unfolds. It is further argued that they can be partly attributed to the observed parity-dependent deviations occurring for the low-lying perturbed modes of the original P\"oschl-Teller effective potential., Comment: 41 pages, 7 figures, and 2 tables

Considering that under the framework of the massive gravity theory, the interaction between the mass gravitons and Schwarzschild black hole (BH) could make it carry a scalar charge, the phase transition process caused by this scalar charge is investigated in this analysis. The phase transition grade and microstructure of those BHs are investigated from both macroscopic and microscopic points of view. From the macroscopic point of view, it is found that Ehrenfest equations are satisfied at the phase transition critical point, which implies that the phase transition grade of those BHs is second-order. Based on the BH molecules model and Landau continuous phase transition theory, the phase transition of those BHs from the microcosmic point of view is analyzed. The critical exponents obtained from the two perspectives are consistent. By investigating the Ruppeiner geometry, the microstructure feature of those BHs is revealed. These results suggest that the phase transition of BH in massive gravity is a standard second-order phase transition at the critical point, and the microscopic details of those BHs are different from the RN-AdS BH in standard Einstein gravity., Comment: 17 pages, 3 figures

The optical properties of a thin-shell wormhole (TSW) with a Hayward profile is investigated. Adopting the ray-tracing method, we demonstrate that the TSW's contralateral spacetime is capable of reflecting a significant portion of light back to the observer spacetime. We analyze the effective potential, light deflection, and azimuthal angle of the TSW and find that these quantities are affected by the mass ratio of the black holes (BHs). Specifically, if the mass of the contralateral spacetime BH is greater than that of the original spacetime BH, and the impact parameter satisfies the condition $Hb_{\rm c2}

The observable characteristics of the charged black hole (BH) surrounded by a thin disk accretion are investigated in the Rastall gravity. We found that the radii of the direct emission, lensing ring, and photon ring dramatically increased as the radiation field parameter increases, but they only weakly depend on the BH charge. Three positions of the radiation accretion disk relative to the BH are considered, i.e., the innermost accretion disk is closed to the radii of the innermost stable circular orbit, the photon ring of the BH, and the event horizon of the BH. The observed images in three cases respectively are obtained. It is found that the total observed flux is dominated by the direct emission, the lensing ring provides a small contribution, and the photon ring is negligible. The lensing and photon rings could not be observed in the blurred image with the EHT resolution. Our results suggest that the observable characteristics of the charged BH surrounded by the thin disk accretion in the Rastall gravity depend on both the BH space-time structure and the position of the radiating accretion disk with respect to the BH. The research of these BH images may serve as a probe for the BH-disk structure in M87$^{*}$ like nearby active galactic nuclei.

Considering a charged black hole (BH) surrounded by a perfect fluid radiation field (PFRF) in Rastall gravity, we investigate this BH shadow and photon sphere on different spherical accretions backgrounds. The effect of the PFRF parameter/BH charge on the critical impact parameter is studied by investigating the light deflection near this BH. The luminosity of these BH shadows in different spherical accretions is obtained, respectively. It is found that the shadow of this BH with infalling spherical accretion is darker than static spherical accretion, and the photon sphere with infalling spherical accretion is brighter than a static one. We creatively investigate the effects of the BH charge/PFRF parameter on the luminosity of BH shadow and photon sphere. The results implying that the BH shadow is a signature of space-time geometry, and the photon sphere luminosity is affected by accretion materials and BH itself.

The dependence of the black hole (BH) shadow and thermodynamics may be structured in the regular spacetime. Taking the regular Bardeen-AdS BH as an example, the relationship between the shadow radius and the event horizon radius is derived. It is found that these two radii display a positive correlation, implying that the BH temperature can be rewritten as a function of shadow radius in the regular spacetime. By analyzing the phase transition curves under the shadow context, we found that the shadow radius can replace the event horizon radius to present the BH phase transition process, and the phase transition grade can also be revealed by the shadow radius, indicating that the shadow radius may serve as a probe for the phase structure in the regular spacetime. Utilizing the temperature-shadow radius function, the thermal profile of the Bardeen-AdS BH is established. We obtained that the temperature shows an N-type change trend in P

The feature of the observed shadows and rings of an astrophysical black hole (BH) may depend on its accretion flows and magnetic charge. We find that the shadow radii and critical impact parameters of the Hayward BH are decreased with the increase of the magnetic charge. Comparing the Schwarzschild BH with the Hayward BH using the ray-tracing method, we show that the density and deflection of lights increase with the magnetic charge, and the BH singularity does not affect the generation of the shadow. Based on three optically thin accretion flow models, the two-dimensional shadows in celestial coordinates are derived. It is found that the shadow and photon ring luminosities of a Hayward BH surrounded by infalling spherical accretion flow are dimmer than that of a static spherical accretion flow. Taking three kinds of inner radii at which the accretion flow stops radiating, we find that the observed luminosity of a Hayward BH surrounded by a thin disk accretion flow is dominated by the direct emission, and the photon ring emission has a weak influence on it. These results suggest that the size of the observed shadow is related to the space-time geometry, and the luminosities of both the shadows and rings are affected by the accretion flow property and the BH magnetic charge., Comment: 13 pages, 12 figures

Two-phase transition branches of the Euler-Heisenberg (EH) anti-de Sitter (AdS) black hole (BH) were derived from its phase transition critical behavior by Magos et al. [Phys. Rev. D. 102, 084011 (2020)]. We found that the phase transition is unstable. Considering the high-order quantum electrodynamics (QED) correction, we re-derive the EHAdS BH solution and investigate its critical thermodynamic quantities. It is found that the corrected EHAdS BH has only one stable phase transition branch, and its critical exponents are equivalent to that of the vdW system. From the microscopic point of view, we also derive its normalized scalar curvature based on the Ruppeiner geometry. Different from two concave surfaces of the scalar curvature without considering the high-order QED correction, we show that the corrected Ruppeiner geometry has only one concave surface. Our results indicate that the phase transition instability derived by Magos $et~al.$ is due to without considering the high-order QED correction., Comment: 10 pages, 11 figures

The supernova remnant (SNR) B0532$-$67.5 in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) was first diagnosed by its nonthermal radio emission and its SNR nature was confirmed by diffuse X-ray emission; however, no optical SNR shell is detected. The OB association LH75, or NGC 2011, is projected within the boundary of this SNR. We have analyzed the massive star population in and around SNR B0532$-$67.5: using optical photometric data to construct color-magnitude diagrams (CMDs), using stellar evolutionary tracks to estimate stellar masses, and using isochrones to assess the stellar ages. From these analyses, we find a 20-25 Myr population in LH75 and a younger population less than 10 Myr old to the southwest of LH75. The center of SNR B0532$-$67.5 is located closer to the core of LH75 than the massive stars to its southwest. We conclude that the SN progenitor was probably a member of LH75 with an initial mass $\sim$15 $M_\odot$. The SN exploded in an H I cavity excavated by the energy feedback of LH75. The low density of the ambient medium prohibits the formation of a visible nebular shell. Despite the low density in the ambient medium, physical properties of the hot gas within the SNR interior do not differ from SNRs with a visible shell by more than a factor of 2-3. The large-scale H I map shows that SNR B0532$-$67.5 is projected in a cavity that appears to be connected with the much larger cavity of the supergiant shell LMC-4., Comment: 14 pages, 2 tables, 9 figures, accepted for publication in The Astronomical Journal (AJ)

Significant experimental progress has been made recently for observing long-sought supersolid-like states in Bose-Einstein condensates, where spatial translational symmetry is spontaneously broken by anisotropic interactions to form a stripe order. Meanwhile, the superfluid stripe ground state was also observed by applying a weak optical lattice that forces the symmetry breaking. Despite of the similarity of the ground states, here we show that these two symmetry breaking mechanisms can be distinguished by their collective excitation spectra. In contrast to gapless Goldstone modes of the \textit{spontaneous} stripe state, we propose that the excitation spectra of the \textit{forced} stripe phase can provide direct experimental evidence for the long-sought gapped pseudo-Goldstone modes. We characterize the pseudo-Goldstone mode of such lattice-induced stripe phase through its excitation spectrum and static structure factor. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have demonstrated extraordinarily good performance in many computer vision tasks. The increasing size of CNN models, however, prevents them from being widely deployed to devices with limited computational resources, e.g., mobile/embedded devices. The emerging topic of model pruning strives to address this problem by removing less important neurons and fine-tuning the pruned networks to minimize the accuracy loss. Nevertheless, existing automated pruning solutions often rely on a numerical threshold of the pruning criteria, lacking the flexibility to optimally balance the trade-off between model size and accuracy. Moreover, the complicated interplay between the stages of neuron pruning and model fine-tuning makes this process opaque, and therefore becomes difficult to optimize. In this paper, we address these challenges through a visual analytics approach, named CNNPruner. It considers the importance of convolutional filters through both instability and sensitivity, and allows users to interactively create pruning plans according to a desired goal on model size or accuracy. Also, CNNPruner integrates state-of-the-art filter visualization techniques to help users understand the roles that different filters played and refine their pruning plans. We have studied the $\gamma p\to \eta \phi p$ reaction within the effective Lagrangian approach, by considering the contribution of the intermediate state $\phi(2170)$ production, and the background contributions of $t$-channel $\pi^0$ and $\eta$ mesons exchanges with the intermediate states $N$ and $N(1535)$. Our calculations show that there may be a peak, at least a bump structure around 2180 MeV associated to the resonance $\phi(2170)$ in the $\eta\phi$ mass distribution. The strong decays of the $5^1S_0$ $q\bar{q}$ states are evaluated in the $^3P_0$ model with two types of space wave functions. Comparing the model expectations with the experimental data for the $\pi(2360)$, $\eta(2320)$, $X(2370)$, and $X(2500)$, we suggest that the $\pi(2360)$, $\eta(2320)$, and $X(2500)$ can be assigned as the members of the $5^1S_0$ meson nonet, while the $5^1S_0$ assignment for the $X(2370)$ is not favored by its width. Under the assignment of $a_0(1450)$ as the ground isovector scalar meson, the strong decays of $a_0(1950)$ and $a_0(2020)$ are evaluated in the $^3P_0$ model. Our calculations suggest that $a_0(1950)$ and $a_0(2020)$ can be regarded as the same resonance referring to $a_0(3^3P_0)$. The LHCb has discovered two new states with preferred $J^P$ quantum numbers $3/2^-$ and $5/2^+$ from $\Lambda_b$ decays. These new states can be interpreted as hidden charm pentaquarks. It has been argued that the main features of these pentaquarks can be described by diquark model. The diquark model predicts that the $3/2^-$ and $5/2^+$ are in two separate octet multiplets of flavor $SU(3)$ and there is also an additional decuplet pentaquark multiplet. Finding the states in these multiplets can provide crucial evidence for this model. The weak decays of b-baryon to a light meson and a pentaquark can have Cabibbo allowed and suppressed decay channels. We find that in the $SU(3)$ limit, for $U$-spin related decay modes the ratio of the decay rates of Cabibbo suppressed to Cabibbo allowed decay channels is given by $|V_{cd}|^2/|V_{cs}|^2$. There are also other testable relations for b-baryon weak decays into a pentaquark and a light pseudoscalar. Several baryons containing a heavy b-quark, the b-baryons, have been discovered. The charmless two-body decays of b-baryons can provide a new platform for CP violating studies in a similar way as charmless two-body decays of B-meson. In b-baryon decays there are new CP violating observable related to baryon polarization. We show that in the flavor $SU(3)$ limit there exist relations involve different combinations of the decay amplitudes compared with those in CP violating rate asymmetry. These new relations therefore provide interesting tests for the mechanism of CP in the standard model (SM) and flavor $SU(3)$ symmetry. We study a class of models for neutrino mass matrix in Type-II seesaw with $A_4$ family symmetry. The resulting neutrino mass matrix can be naturally made to respect a $\mu-\tau$ exchange plus CP conjugate symmetry (GLS) with the CP violating phase $\delta$ and the mixing angle $\theta_{23}$ predicted to be $\pm\pi/2$ and $\pi/4$, respectively. When GLS is explicitly broken by complex Yukawa couplings, the model predictions for $\delta$ and $\theta_{23}$ can be significantly modified. Should future experiments will indeed determine $\theta_{23}$ and $\delta_{CP}$ away from the GLS limit values, one then had to consider models with broken GLS. Several baryons containing a heavy b-quark have been discovered. The decays of these states provide new platform for testing the standard model (SM). We study $CP$ violation in SM for charmless two-body decays of the flavor $SU(3)$ anti-triplet beauty baryon (b-baryon) ${\cal B} = (\Xi^-_b,\;\Xi^0_b,\;\Lambda_b^0)$ in a model independent way. We found, in the flavor $SU(3)$ symmetry limit, a set of new predictive relations among the branching ratio $Br$ and $CP$ asymmetry $A_{CP}$ for $\cal B$ decays, such as $A_{CP}(\Xi_b^-\to K^0 \Xi^-)/A_{CP}(\Xi_b^-\to \bar K^0 \Sigma^-) = - Br(\Xi_b^- \to \bar K^0 \Sigma^-)/Br(\Xi_b^- \to K^0 \Sigma^-)$, $A_{CP}(\Lambda_b^0 \to \pi^- p)/A_{CP} (\Xi^0_b \to K^- \Sigma^+) = -Br(\Xi^0_b \to K^- \Sigma^+)\tau_{\Lambda_b^0}/Br(\Lambda_b^0 \to \pi^- p)\tau_{\Xi^0_b}$,and $A_{CP}(\Lambda_b^0 \to K^- p)/ A_{CP} (\Xi^0_b \to \pi^- \Sigma^+) = -Br(\Xi^0_b \to \pi^- \Sigma^+)\tau_{\Lambda_b^0}/ Br(\Lambda_b^0 \to K^- p)\tau_{\Xi^0_b}$. The Higgs boson $H$ has the largest coupling to the top quark $t$ among the standard model (SM) fermions. This is one of the ideal places to investigate new physics beyond SM. In this work, we study the potential of determining Higgs boson $CP$ properties at the LHC and future 33 TeV and 100 TeV $pp$ colliders by analysing various operators formed from final states variables in $t\bar{t}H$ production. The discrimination power from SM coupling is obtained with Higgs boson reconstructed from $ H\to \gamma \gamma$ and $ H\to b \bar{b}$. We find that $t\bar{t}b\bar{b}$ process can provide more than 3$\sigma$ discrimination power with 300 $fb^{-1}$ integrated luminosity in a wide range of allowed Higgs to top couplings for the LHC, the 33 TeV and 100 TeV colliders. For $t\bar{t}\gamma\gamma$ the discrimination power will be below 3$\sigma$ at the LHC, while for 33 TeV and 100 TeV colliders, more than 3$\sigma$ sensitivity can be reached., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures. v2: typos corrected and references added

Several modes of $B$ decays into three pseudoscalar octet mesons PPP have been measured. These decays have provided useful information for B decays in the standard model (SM). Some of powerful tools in analyzing B decays are flavor $SU(3)$ and isospin symmetries. Such analyses are usually hampered by $SU(3)$ breaking effects due to a relatively large strange quark mass which breaks SU(3) symmetry down to isospin symmetry. The isospin symmetry also breaks down when up and down quark mass difference is non-zero. It is therefore interesting to find relations which are not sensitive to $SU(3)$ and isospin breaking effects. We find that the relations among several fully-symmetric $B \to PPP$ decay amplitudes are not affected by first order $SU(3)$ breaking effects due to a non-zero strange quark mass, and also some of them are not affected by first isospin breaking effects. These relations, therefore, hold to good precisions. We carry out a $U$-spin symmetry analysis for CP violation in $B^- $ decays into three light $\pi^-\pi^-\pi^+$, $\pi^- K^-K^+$, $K^-K^-K^+$ and $K^- \pi^-\pi^+$ mesons. We clarify some subtle points in constructing decay amplitudes with $U=0$ formed by the two negatively charged light mesons in the final states. $U$-spin conserving momentum independent and momentum dependent decay amplitudes, and $U$-spin violating decay amplitudes due to quark mass difference are constructed., Comment: RevTex 12 pages wit no figure

TThe LHCb collaboration has recently reported evidence for non-zero CP asymmetries in $B^+$ decays into $\pi^+ K^+ K^-,\; \pi^+\pi^+\pi^-,\; K^+ K^+ K^- $ and $K^+\pi^+\pi^-$. The branching ratios for these decays have also been measured with different values ranging from $5\times 10^{-6}$ to $51\times 10^{-6}$. If flavor $SU(3)$ symmetry is a good symmetry for $B$ decays, in the case that the dominant amplitude is momentum independent it is expected that branching ratios $Br$ and CP violating rate differences $\Delta_{CP} = \Gamma - \overline{\Gamma}$ satisfy, $Br(\pi^+\pi^+\pi^-) = 2Br(\pi^+ K^+ K^-)$, $Br(K^+K^+K^-) = 2 Br(K^+\pi^+\pi^-)$, and $\Delta_{CP}(\pi^+\pi^+\pi^-) = 2\Delta_{CP}(\pi^+ K^+K^-) = - \Delta_{CP}(K^+K^+K^-) = -2\Delta_{CP}(K^+\pi^+\pi^-)$. The experimental data do not exhibit the expected pattern for the branching ratios. The rate differences for $B^+\to \pi^+\pi^+\pi^-$ and $B^+\to K^+ K^+ K^-$ satisfy the relation between $\Delta S =0$ and $\Delta S=1$ well, but the other two do not, with the CP asymmetries having different signs than expected. In this work we study how to including momentum dependent and also $SU(3)$ breaking effects on these decays to explain experimental data. We find that only including lowest order derivative terms, in the $SU(3)$ limit, the decay patterns cannot be explained. The CKM matrix describing quark mixing with three generations can be parameterized by three Euler mixing angles and one CP violating phase. In most of the parameterizations, the CP violating phase chosen is not a directly measurable quantity and is parametrization dependent. In this work, we propose to use the most accurately measured CP violating angle $\beta$ in the unitarity triangleas the phase in the CKM matrix, and construct an explicit $\beta$ parameterization. We study phenomenological implications of a radiative inverse seesaw dark matter model. In this model, because neutrino masses are generated at two loop level with inverse seesaw, the new physics mass scale can be as low as a few hundred GeV and the model also naturally contain dark matter candidate. The Yukawa couplings linking the SM leptons and new particles can be large. This can lead to large lepton flavor violating effects. We find that future experimental data on $\mu \to e \gamma$ and $\mu - e$ conversion can further test the model. Long-range corrected (LC) hybrid functionals and asymptotically corrected (AC) model potentials are two distinct density functional methods with correct asymptotic behavior. They are known to be accurate for properties that are sensitive to the asymptote of the exchange-correlation potential, such as the highest occupied molecular orbital energies and Rydberg excitation energies of molecules. To provide a comprehensive comparison, we investigate the performance of the two schemes and others on a very wide range of applications, including the asymptote problems, self-interaction-error problems, energy-gap problems, charge-transfer problems, and many others. The LC hybrid scheme is shown to consistently outperform the AC model potential scheme. In addition, to be consistent with the molecules collected in the IP131 database [Y.-S. Lin, C.-W. Tsai, G.-D. Li, and J.-D. Chai, J. Chem. Phys., 2012, 136, 154109], we expand the EA115 and FG115 databases to include, respectively, the vertical electron affinities and fundamental gaps of the additional 16 molecules, and develop a new database AE113 (113 atomization energies), consisting of accurate reference values for the atomization energies of the 113 molecules in IP131. By incorporating the improved empirical atom-atom dispersion corrections from DFT-D3 [Grimme, S.; Antony, J.; Ehrlich, S.; Krieg, H. J. Chem. Phys. 2010, 132, 154104], two long-range corrected (LC) hybrid density functionals are proposed. Our resulting LC hybrid functionals, omegaM06-D3 and omegaB97X-D3, are shown to be accurate for a very wide range of applications, such as thermochemistry, kinetics, noncovalent interactions, frontier orbital energies, fundamental gaps, and long-range charge-transfer excitations, when compared with common global and LC hybrid functionals. Relative to omegaB97X-D [Chai, J.-D.; Head-Gordon, M. Phys. Chem. Chem. Seesaw mechanism provides a natural explanation of light neutrino masses through suppression of heavy seesaw scale. In inverse seesaw models the seesaw scale can be much lower than that in the usual seesaw models. If terms inducing seesaw masses are further induced by loop corrections, the seesaw scale can be lowered to be in the range probed by experiments at the LHC without fine tuning. In this paper we construct models in which inverse seesaw neutrino masses are generated at two loop level. These models also naturally have dark matter candidates. Although the recent data from Xenon100 put stringent constraint on the models, they can be consistent with data on neutrino masses, mixing, dark matter relic density and direct detection. The CKM matrix describing quark mixing with three generations can be parameterized by three mixing angles and one CP violating phase. In most of the parameterizations, the CP violating phase chosen is not a directly measurable quantity and is parametrization dependent. In this work, we propose to use experimentally measurable CP violating quantities, $\alpha$, $\beta$ or $\gamma$ in the unitarity triangle as the phase in the CKM matrix, and construct explicit $\alpha$, $\beta$ and $\gamma$ parameterizations. We propose a long-range corrected hybrid meta-GGA functional, based on a global hybrid meta-GGA functional, M05 [Y. Zhao, N. E. Schultz, and D. G. Truhlar, J. Chem. We study the complementarity between quark and lepton mixing angles (QLC), the sum of an angle in quark mixing and the corresponding angle in lepton mixing is $\pi/4$. Experimentally in the standard PDG parametrization, two such relations exist approximately. These QLC relations are accidental which only manifest themselves in the PDG parametrization. We propose reparametrization invariant expressions for the complementarity relations in terms of the magnitude of the elements in the quark and lepton mixing matrices. In the exact QLC limit, it is found that $|V_{us}/V_{ud}| + |V_{e2}/V_{e1}| + |V_{us}/V_{ud}| |V_{e2}/V_{e1}| =1$ and $|V_{cb}/V_{tb}| + |V_{\mu 3}/V_{\tau 3}| +|V_{cb}/V_{tb}|| {V_{\mu 3}}/V_{\tau 3}| =1$. We investigate the collective excitations of a one-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) with repulsive interaction between atoms in a quadratic plus quartic trap. By using the variational approach, the coupled equations of motion for the center-of-mass coordinate of the condensate and its width are derived. Then, two low-energy excitation modes are obtained analytically. The frequency shift induced by the anharmonic distortion, and the collapse and revival of the collective excitations, which originate from the nonlinear coupling between the two modes, are discussed., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

Seventy-five orbits of Leonid meteors obtained during the 1998 outburst are presented. Thirty-eight are precise enough to recognize significant dispersion in orbital elements. Results from the nights of 1998 November 16/17 and 17/18 differ, in agreement with the dominant presence of different dust components. The shower rate profile of 1998 November 16/17 was dominated by a broad component, rich in bright meteors. The radiant distribution is compact. The semimajor axis is confined to values close to that of the parent comet, whereas the distribution of inclination has a central condensation in a narrow range. On the other hand, 1998 November 17/18 was dominated by dust responsible for a more narrow secondary peak in the flux curve. The declination of the radiant and the inclination of the orbit are more widely dispersed. The argument of perihelion, inclination, and the perihelion distance are displaced. These data substantiate the hypothesis that trapping in orbital resonances is important for the dynamical evolution of the broad component.
