We investigate collisions of polar molecules in quasi-2D traps in the presence of an external electric field perpendicular to the collision plane. We use the quantum-defect model characterized by two dimensionless parameters: $y$ and $s$. The first of them is related to the probability of the reaction at short distances, whereas the latter one defines the wave function phase at short distances. For $y$ close to unity we obtain universal collision rates determined by the quantum reflection process from the long-range part of the interaction potential that depends only on the van der Waals coefficient, dipole-dipole interaction and the trap frequency. For small short-range reaction probabilities collision rates are highly nonuniversal and trap induced shape resonances are visible. For high dipole moments we observe the damping of reactive collisions, which can stabilize the ultracold gas of polar molecules. We use the dressed potentials obtained in the adiabatic representation of two coupled channels to calculate s-wave Feshbach resonances in a 3D spherically symmetric potential with an open channel interacting with a closed channel. Analytic expressions for the s-wave scattering length $a$ and number of resonances are obtained for a piecewise constant model with a piecewise constant interaction of the open and closed channels near the origin. We show analytically and numerically that, for strong enough coupling strength, Feshbach resonances can exist even when the closed channel does {\em not} have a bound state., Comment: 9 pages, 8 figures

We investigate the static and dynamic properties of a Tonks-Girardeau gas in a harmonic trap with an eccentric $\delta$-perturbation of variable strength. For this we first find the analytic eigensolution of the single particle problem and use this solution to calculate the spatial density and energy profiles of the many particle gas as a function of the strength and position of the perturbation. We find that the crystal nature of the Tonks state is reflected in both the lowest occupation number and momentum distribution of the gas. As a novel application of our model, we study the time evolution of the the spatial density after a sudden removal of the perturbation. The dynamics exhibits collapses and revivals of the original density distribution which occur in units of the trap frequency.
