1. STEM Teacher Workforce in High-Need Schools Resilient Despite Shrinking Supply and Increasing Demand. EdWorkingPaper No. 24-1024

Abstract: The teacher workforce in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) has been a perpetual weak spot in public schools' teaching rosters. Prior reports show the pipeline of new STEM teachers into the profession is weak while demand for instruction in STEM fields continues to grow. This paper seeks to document whether and how the STEM teacher workforce in high-need settings has been impacted by these pressures. It analyzes successive waves of nationally representative teacher survey data to explore demographics and qualifications among the secondary STEM teacher workforce in high-need settings has fared over time. Results show the STEM teacher workforce in high-need schools is consistently less likely to be experienced, less likely to hold any degree in a STEM field, less likely to hold a master's degree, and less likely to be fully certified than STEM teachers in more advantaged settings. Yet, surprisingly, the observed qualifications gaps across high- versus low-need settings are either stable or slightly narrowing over time. Certain STEM fields--namely, physical sciences and computer science--rely on a less qualified workforce than those in math or biology, with low levels of teacher qualifications observed across both high- and low-need settings. Though even when considering field-specific alignment between teachers' background qualifications and their teaching assignments, the qualifications gap between high- and low-need settings has been slowly shrinking in three of four STEM fields analyzed here. In addition to high-need schools, small schools (based on enrollment size) rely more heavily on underqualified STEM teachers.

Abstract: The performance differential of large language models (LLM) between languages hinders their effective deployment in many regions, inhibiting the potential economic and societal value of generative AI tools in many communities. However, the development of functional LLMs in many languages (\ie, multilingual LLMs) is bottlenecked by the lack of high-quality evaluation resources in languages other than English. Moreover, current practices in multilingual benchmark construction often translate English resources, ignoring the regional and cultural knowledge of the environments in which multilingual systems would be used. In this work, we construct an evaluation suite of 197,243 QA pairs from local exam sources to measure the capabilities of multilingual LLMs in a variety of regional contexts. Our novel resource, INCLUDE, is a comprehensive knowledge- and reasoning-centric benchmark across 44 written languages that evaluates multilingual LLMs for performance in the actual language environments where they would be deployed.

3. Adaptive dynamics of Ising spins in one dimension leveraging Reinforcement Learning

Abstract: A one-dimensional flocking model using active Ising spins is studied, where the system evolves through the reinforcement learning approach \textit{via} defining state, action, and cost function for each spin. The orientation of spin with respect to its neighbouring spins defines its state. The state of spin is updated by altering its spin orientation in accordance with the $\varepsilon$-greedy algorithm (action) and selecting a finite step from a uniform distribution to update position. The $\varepsilon$ parameter is analogous to the thermal noise in the system. The cost function addresses cohesion among the spins. By exploring the system in the plane of the self-propulsion speed and $\varepsilon$ parameter, four distinct phases are found: disorder, flocking, flipping, and oscillatory. In the flipping phase, a condensed flock reverses its direction of motion stochastically. The mean reversal time $\langle T \rangle $ exponentially decays with $\varepsilon$. A new phase, an oscillatory phase, is also found, which is a chaotic phase with a positive Lyapunov exponent. The findings obtained from the reinforcement learning approach for the active Ising model system exhibit similarities with the outcomes of other conventional techniques, even without defining any explicit interaction among the spins.

4. Designing an Optimal Scoop for Holloman High-Speed Test Track Water Braking Mechanism using Computational Fluid Dynamics

Abstract: Specializing in high-speed testing, Holloman High-Speed Test Track (HHSTT) uses water braking to stop vehicles on the test track. This method takes advantage of the higher density of water, compared to air, to increase braking capability through momentum exchange by increasing the water content in that section at the end of the track. By studying water braking using computational fluid dynamics (CFD), the forces acting on tracked vehicles can be approximated and prepared before actual testing through numerical simulations. In this study, emphasis will be placed on the brake component of the tracked sled, which is responsible for interacting with water to brake. By discretizing a volume space around our brake, we accelerate the water and air to simulate the brake coupling relatively. The multiphase flow model uses the governing equations of the gas and liquid phases with the finite volume method to perform 3D simulations. By adjusting the air and water inlet velocity, it is possible to simulate HHSTT sled tests at various operating speeds., Comment: 35 pages

5. Finite volume convergence analysis and error estimation for non-linear collisional induced breakage equation

Abstract: This article focuses on the finite volume method (FVM) as an instrument tool to deal with the non-linear collisional-induced breakage equation (CBE) that arises in the particulate process. Notably, we consider the non-conservative approximation of the CBE. The analysis of weak convergence of the approximated solutions under a feasible stability condition on the time step is investigated for locally bounded breakage and collision kernels. Subsequently, explicit error estimation of the FVM solutions in uniform mesh having the kernels in the class of $W_{loc}^{1,\infty}$ space. It is also shown numerically for the first-order convergent scheme by taking numerical examples.

6. On the Existence of Long-Period Decayless Oscillations in Short Active Region Loops

Abstract: Decayless kink oscillations, characterized by their lack of decay in amplitude, have been detected in coronal loops of varying scales in active regions, quiet Sun and coronal holes. Short-period (< 50 s) decayless oscillations have been detected in short loops (< 50 Mm) within active regions. Nevertheless, long-period decayless oscillations in these loops remain relatively unexplored and crucial for understanding the wave modes and excitation mechanisms of decayless oscillations. We present the statistical analysis of decayless oscillations from two active regions observed by the Extreme Ultraviolet Imager (EUI) onboard Solar Orbiter. The average loop length and period of the detected oscillations are 19 Mm and 151 seconds, respectively. We find 82 long-period and 23 short-period oscillations in these loops. We do not obtain a significant correlation between loop length and period. We discuss the possibility of different wave modes in short loops, although standing waves can not be excluded from possible wave modes. Furthermore, a different branch exists for active region short loops in the loop length vs period relation, similar to decayless waves in short loops in quiet Sun and coronal holes. The magnetic fields derived from MHD seismology, based on standing kink modes, show lower values for multiple oscillations compared to previous estimates for long loops in active regions. Additionally, the comparison of period distributions in short loops across different coronal regions indicates that different excitation mechanisms may trigger short-period kink oscillations in active regions compared to the quiet Sun and coronal holes., Comment: 17 Pages, 12 Figures, Accepted for publication in the APJ

7. Dynamics of electron-electron correlated to electron-phonon coupled phase progression in trilayer nickelate La4Ni3O10

Abstract: Trilayer nickelates are a rich class of materials exhibiting diverse correlated phenomena, including superconductivity, density wave transitions, non-Fermi liquid behavior along with an unusual metal-to-metal transition around T* ~ 150 K. Understanding the electronic correlations, lattice and charge dynamics are crucial to unreveal the origin of superconductivity and other instabilities in nickelates. Our in-depth Raman measurements shows that trilayer nickelate, La4Ni3O10, shows transition from electron-phonon coupled phase to the electron-electron correlated one below charge density wave transition around T* with an estimated energy gap of ~ 18-20 meV. The transition around T* is also accompanied by the emergence of zone folded phonon modes reflecting the transition into the charge density wave phase. Phonon modes self-energy parameters show anomalous changes around T* attributed to the electron-electron correlations, and renormalization rate of the phonon modes is much slower in the charge-ordered phase compared to the phase above T*. The transition around T* are marked by the suppression of electron-phonon coupling parameter by ~ 70 %, a change of the quasiparticle dynamics from non-Fermi liquid to the Landau-Fermi liquid type behaviour estimated using the low frequency Raman response.

8. Evidence of potential thermospheric overcooling during the May 2024 geomagnetic superstorm

Abstract: During intense geomagnetic storms, the rapid and significant production of NO followed by its associated infrared radiative emission in lower thermosphere contributes crucially to the energetics of the upper atmosphere. This makes NO infrared radiative cooling a very important phenomenon which needs to be considered for accurate density forecasting in thermosphere. This study reports the investigation of variations in thermospheric density, and NO radiative cooling during the recent geomagnetic superstorm of May 2024. A very rare post-storm thermospheric density depletion of about -23% on May 12 was observed by Swarm-C in northern hemisphere in comparison to the prestorm condition on May 9. This overcooling was observed despite the continuous enhancement in solar EUV (24-36 nm) flux throughout the event. The thermospheric NO infrared radiative emission in the recovery phase of the storm seems to be the plausible cause for this observed post-storm density depletion. The TIMED/SABER observed thermospheric density between 105 and 110 km altitude shows an enhancement during this thermospheric overcooling. Our analysis also suggests an all time high thermospheric NO radiative cooling flux up to 11.84 ergs/cm2/sec during May 2024 geomagnetic superstorm, which has also been compared with famous Halloween storms of October 2003., Comment: 16 pages, 8 figures

Abstract: We report measurements of the absolute branching fractions $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \to D_s^{\pm} X)$, $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \to D^0/\bar{D}^0 X)$, and $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \to D^{\pm} X)$, where the latter is measured for the first time. The results are based on a 121.4\,fb$^{-1}$ data sample collected at the $\Upsilon(10860)$ resonance by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. We reconstruct one $B_s^0$ meson in $e^+e^- \to \Upsilon(10860) \to B_s^{*} \bar{B}_s^{*}$ events and measure yields of $D_s^+$, $D^0$, and $D^+$ mesons in the rest of the event. We obtain $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \to D_s^{\pm} X) = (68.6 \pm 7.2 \pm 4.0)\%$, $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \to D^0/\bar{D}^0 X) = (21.5 \pm 6.1 \pm 1.8)\%$, and $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \to D^{\pm} X) = (12.6 \pm 4.6 \pm 1.3)\%$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Averaging with previous Belle measurements gives $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \to D_s^{\pm} X) = (63.4 \pm 4.5 \pm 2.2)\%$ and $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \to D^0/\bar{D}^0 X) = (23.9 \pm 4.1 \pm 1.8)\%$. For the $B_s^0$ production fraction at the $\Upsilon(10860)$, we find $f_s = (21.4^{+1.5}_{-1.7})\%$., Comment: 23 pages, 9 figures, submitted to JHEP

10. DLBacktrace: A Model Agnostic Explainability for any Deep Learning Models

Abstract: The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence has led to increasingly sophisticated deep learning models, which frequently operate as opaque 'black boxes' with limited transparency in their decision-making processes. This lack of interpretability presents considerable challenges, especially in high-stakes applications where understanding the rationale behind a model's outputs is as essential as the outputs themselves. This study addresses the pressing need for interpretability in AI systems, emphasizing its role in fostering trust, ensuring accountability, and promoting responsible deployment in mission-critical fields. To address the interpretability challenge in deep learning, we introduce DLBacktrace, an innovative technique developed by the AryaXAI team to illuminate model decisions across a wide array of domains, including simple Multi Layer Perceptron (MLPs), Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), Large Language Models (LLMs), Computer Vision Models, and more. We provide a comprehensive overview of the DLBacktrace algorithm and present benchmarking results, comparing its performance against established interpretability methods, such as SHAP, LIME, GradCAM, Integrated Gradients, SmoothGrad, and Attention Rollout, using diverse task-based metrics. The proposed DLBacktrace technique is compatible with various model architectures built in PyTorch and TensorFlow, supporting models like Llama 3.2, other NLP architectures such as BERT and LSTMs, computer vision models like ResNet and U-Net, as well as custom deep neural network (DNN) models for tabular data. This flexibility underscores DLBacktrace's adaptability and effectiveness in enhancing model transparency across a broad spectrum of applications. Abstract: Facial Emotion Recognition (FER) plays a crucial role in computer vision, with significant applications in human-computer interaction, affective computing, and areas such as mental health monitoring and personalized learning environments. However, a major challenge in FER task is the class imbalance commonly found in available datasets, which can hinder both model performance and generalization. In this paper, we tackle the issue of data imbalance by incorporating synthetic data augmentation and leveraging the ResEmoteNet model to enhance the overall performance on facial emotion recognition task. We employed Stable Diffusion 2 and Stable Diffusion 3 Medium models to generate synthetic facial emotion data, augmenting the training sets of the FER2013 and RAF-DB benchmark datasets. Training ResEmoteNet with these augmented datasets resulted in substantial performance improvements, achieving accuracies of 96.47% on FER2013 and 99.23% on RAF-DB. These findings shows an absolute improvement of 16.68% in FER2013, 4.47% in RAF-DB and highlight the efficacy of synthetic data augmentation in strengthening FER models and underscore the potential of advanced generative models in FER research and applications. Abstract: We present measurements of $B \to K{}^{*}(892)\gamma$ decays using $365\,{\rm fb}^{-1}$ of data collected from 2019 to 2022 by the Belle~II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. The data sample contains $(387 \pm 6) \times 10^6$ $B\overline{B}$ events. We measure branching fractions ($\mathcal{B}$) and $C\!P$ asymmetries ($\mathcal{A}_{C\!P}$) for both $B^{0}\to K{}^{*0}\gamma$ and $B^{+}\to K{}^{*+}\gamma$ decays. The difference in $C\!P$ asymmetries ($\Delta \mathcal{A}_{C\!P}$) and the isospin asymmetry ($\Delta_{0+}$) between these neutral and charged channels are also measured. We obtain the following branching fractions and $C\!P$ asymmetries: $\mathcal{B} (B^{0} \to K{}^{*0}\gamma) = (4.14 \pm 0.10 \pm 0.11 ) \times 10^{-5}$, $\mathcal{B} (B^{+} \to K{}^{*+}\gamma) = (4.02 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.13 )\times 10^{-5}$, $\mathcal{A}_{C\!P} (B^{0} \to K{}^{*0}\gamma) = (-3.3 \pm 2.3 \pm 0.4 )\%$, and $\mathcal{A}_{C\!P} (B^{+} \to K{}^{*+}\gamma) = (-0.7 \pm 2.9 \pm 0.6 )\%$. The measured difference in $C\!P$ asymmetries is $\Delta \mathcal{A}_{C\!P} = (+2.6 \pm 3.8 \pm 0.7 )\%$, and the measured isospin asymmetry is $\Delta_{0+} = (+5.0 \pm 2.0 \pm 1.5 )\%$. The first uncertainties listed are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are consistent with world-average values and theory predictions.

13. LAuReL: Learned Augmented Residual Layer

Abstract: One of the core pillars of efficient deep learning methods is architectural improvements such as the residual/skip connection, which has led to significantly better model convergence and quality. Since then the residual connection has become ubiquitous in not just convolutional neural networks but also transformer-based architectures, the backbone of LLMs. In this paper we introduce \emph{Learned Augmented Residual Layer} (LAuReL) -- a novel generalization of the canonical residual connection -- with the goal to be an in-situ replacement of the latter while outperforming on both model quality and footprint metrics. Our experiments show that using \laurel can help boost performance for both vision and language models. 14. Focused ion beam polishing based optimization of high-Q silica microdisk resonators

Abstract: Whispering gallery mode (WGM) microdisk resonators are promising optical devices that confine light efficiently and enable enhanced nonlinear optical effects. This work presents a novel approach to reduce sidewall roughness in SiO\textsubscript{2} microdisk resonators using focused ion beam (FIB) polishing. The microdisks, with varying diameter ranging from 5 to 20 $\mu$m are fabricated using a multi-step fabrication scheme. However, the etching process introduces significant sidewall roughness, which increases with decreasing microdisk radius, degrading the resonators' quality. To address this issue, a FIB system is employed to polish the sidewalls, using optimized process parameters to minimize Ga ion implantation. White light interferometry measurements reveal a significant reduction in surface roughness from 7 nm to 20 nm for a 5 $\mu$m diameter microdisk, leading to a substantial enhancement in the scattering quality factor (Qss) from $3\times 10^2$ to $2\times 10^6$. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of FIB polishing in improving the quality of microdisk resonators and open up new possibilities for the fabrication of advanced photonic devices.

15. External Control over Magnon-Magnon Coupling in a Two-Dimensional Array of Square Shaped Nanomagnets

Abstract: The field of hybrid magnonics has gained significant momentum in recent years, driven by its potential to enable coherent information transfer and quantum transduction. This study delves into the tunable magnon-magnon coupling within a two-dimensional array of Ni80Fe20 (Permalloy) square nanomagnets by modulating its internal magnetic field configuration. Using a broadband ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) spectroscopy, we systematically investigate the influence of the orientation of external magnetic field and microwave power on the coupling properties. Our findings reveal a pronounced anticrossing behavior, indicative of robust magnon-magnon coupling, whose strength can be tuned through both static and dynamic external parameters. The ability to modulate coupling strengths in this system highlights its potential for developing flexible and adaptive magnonic devices, crucial for future applications in quantum information processing and spintronic technologies. This work not only broadens the understanding of magnon-magnon interactions in complex geometries but also opens new avenues for the design of next-generation quantum magnonic systems.

Abstract: Glucose monitoring plays a critical role in managing diabetes, one of the most prevalent diseases globally. The development of fast-responsive, cost-effective, and biocompatible glucose sensors is essential for improving patient care. In this study, a comparative analysis is conducted between pristine and Co-doped hematite samples, synthesized via the hydrothermal method, to evaluate their structural, morphological, and optical properties. The glucose sensing performance of both samples is assessed using a fiber-optic evanescent wave (FOEW) setup. While the sensitivity remains comparable for both pristine and Co-doped hematite, a reduction in the Limit of Detection (LoD) is observed in the Co-doped sample, suggesting enhanced interactions with glucose molecules at the surface. To gain further insights into the glucose adsorption mechanisms, Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations are performed, revealing key details regarding charge transfer, electronic delocalization, and glucose binding on the hematite surfaces. These findings highlight the potential of Co-doped hematite for advanced glucose sensing applications, offering a valuable synergy between experimental and theoretical approaches for further exploration in biosensing technologies.

17. Quintessence phase of the late-time Universe in $f(Q,T)$ gravity

Abstract: In this paper, we have studied the late-time accelerating expansion of the Universe using the matter-geometry coupled $ f(Q, T) $ gravity model, where $ Q $ is the non-metricity scalar and $ T $ represents the trace of the energy-momentum tensor. We constrain the best-fit values of cosmological parameters $\Omega_{m0}, H_0, \alpha_0~\mbox{and}~ \beta_0$ through the Monte Carlo Markov Chain (MCMC) simulation {using 31 Hubble parameter data points from cosmic chronometers (CC) and 26 data points from baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO), making a total of 57 datasets (labeled \texttt{CC+BAO}), as well as SNIa distance moduli measurements from the Pantheon+ sample, which consists of 1701 light curves of 1550 distinct supernovae (labeled \texttt{Pantheon +SHOES}), and their combination (labeled \texttt{CC+BAO+Pantheon +SHOES)}}. {We compare our constrained Hubble constant $H_0$ value with different late-time and early-time cosmological measurements.} Deceleration {parameter} $q(z)$, effective equation of state parameters $w_{eff}(z)$, Hubble parameter $H(z)$, and distance modulus $\mu(z)$ are numerical results of dynamical quantities that show that the $f(Q, T)$ gravity model is compatible with a transition towards a quintessence-like phase in the late-time. Abstract: The radio galaxy NGC 1275, located at the central region of Perseus cluster, is a well-known very high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray emitter. The Major Atmospheric Cherenkov Experiment Telescope has detected two distinct episodes of VHE (E > 80 GeV) gamma-ray emission from NGC 1275 during 2022 December and 2023 January. The second outburst, observed on 2023 January 10, was the more intense of the two, with flux reaching 58$\%$ of the Crab Nebula flux above 80 GeV. The differential energy spectrum measured between 80 GeV and 1.5 TeV can be described by a power law with a spectral index of $\Gamma = - 2.90 \pm 0.16_{stat}$ for both flaring events. The broadband spectral energy distribution derived from these flares, along with quasisimultaneous low-energy counterparts, suggests that the observed gamma-ray emission can be explained using a homogeneous single-zone synchrotron self-Compton model. The physical parameters derived from this model for both flaring states are similar. The intermediate state observed between two flaring episodes is explained by a lower Doppler factor or magnetic field, which subsequently returned to its previous value during the high-activity state observed on 2023 January 10., Comment: 7 Pages, 5 Figures, and 1 Table

21. Impact of scalar NSI with off-diagonal parameters at DUNE and P2SO

Abstract: In this paper, we studied the impact of the off-diagonal SNSI parameters in the future long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments DUNE and P2SO. In our analysis, we found that the sensitivities of these experiments altered in a very non-trivial way due to the presence of these parameters. Depending on the values of these parameters, they can either completely mimic the standard scenario or can wash out their CP sensitivity. For large values of parameters $\eta_{e\mu}$ and $\eta_{e\tau}$, we obtained larger mass ordering and octant sensitivities as compared to the standard three flavour scenario. For the parameter $\eta_{\mu\tau}$, the mass ordering sensitivity and the precision of $\Delta m^2_{31}$ deteriorated compared to the standard scenario. Here, the intricate process involved in the generation and conversion of spin and orbital to charge currents in Zr(t=2, 3, 4.5, 6, &10nm)/Co60Fe20B20(CFB), Zr/Pt/CFB, and Zr/Pt/CFB/Pt heterostructures are investigated using spin-orbital pumping ferromagnetic resonance and longitudinal spin-orbital Seebeck effect measurements. The moderate spin-orbit coupling (SOC) in the CFB layer facilitates the simultaneous generation of spin and orbital currents, which are transferred into adjacent Zr and Pt layers. Different spin-orbital to charge current contributions, namely, Inverse spin Hall effect (ISHE), Inverse orbital Hall effect (IOHE), and Inverse orbital Rashba-Edelstein effect (IOREE) are analyzed. Notably, introducing a single Pt layer increases the spin-orbital to charge current conversion via combined effects: ISHE in Pt, IOREE in Zr/Pt interface. An enhanced effective spin-orbital Hall angle ({\theta}_eff) of 0.120 {\pm} 0.004 is observed for Zr/Pt/CFB, compared to that of 0.065 {\pm} 0.002 for the Zr/CFB, and 0.077 {\pm} 0.003 for the Zr/Pt/CFB/Pt heterostructures. 23. Micromotors Driven by Spin-Orbit Interaction of Light: Mimicking Planetary Motion at the Microscale

Abstract: We introduce a new class of optical micromotors driven by the spin-orbit interaction of light and spin-driven fluid flows leading to simultaneous rotation and revolution of the micromotors. The micromotors are essentially birefringent liquid crystal particles (LC) that can efficiently convert the angular momentum of light into high-frequency rotational motion. By tightly focusing circularly polarized Gaussian beams through a high numerical aperture objective into a refractive index stratified medium, we create a spherically aberrated intensity profile where the spinning motion of a micromotor optically trapped at the centre of the profile induces fluid flows that causes orbiting motion of the off-axially trapped surrounding particles (secondary micromotors). In addition, the interaction between the helicity of light and the anisotropic properties of the LC medium leads to the breaking of the input helicity and drives the conversion of right to left-circular polarization and vice-versa. This spin-to-spin conversion, causes the orbiting secondary micromotors to spin in certain cases as well so that the entire system of spinning primary micromotor and revolving and spinning secondary micromotors is reminiscent of planetary motion at mesoscopic scales. Abstract: This Paper presents an advanced approach for fine-tuning BiomedCLIP PubMedBERT, a multimodal model, to classify abnormalities in Video Capsule Endoscopy (VCE) frames, aiming to enhance diagnostic efficiency in gastrointestinal healthcare. By integrating the PubMedBERT language model with a Vision Transformer (ViT) to process endoscopic images, our method categorizes images into ten specific classes: angioectasia, bleeding, erosion, erythema, foreign body, lymphangiectasia, polyp, ulcer, worms, and normal. Our workflow incorporates image preprocessing and fine-tunes the BiomedCLIP model to generate high-quality embeddings for both visual and textual inputs, aligning them through similarity scoring for classification. Abstract: Let $k \ge 2$ be an even integer, $ \ell \ge \max\{5, k-1\} $ be a prime, and $N$ be a squarefree positive integer. It is known that if the $\rm{mod}\,\ell$ Galois representation $\overline{\rho}_f$ associated with a newform $f$ of weight $k$, level $N$, and trivial nebentypus is reducible, then $\overline{\rho}_f \simeq 1 \oplus \overline{\chi}_\ell^{k-1}$, up to semisimplification, where $\overline{\chi}_\ell^{}$ is the $\rm{mod}\,\ell$ cyclotomic character. In this paper, we determine the necessary and sufficient conditions under which the $\rm{mod}\,\ell$ representation $1 \oplus \overline{\chi}_\ell^{k-1}$ arises from a newform of weight $k$, level $N$ with exactly two prime factors with specified Atkin-Lehner eigenvalues. Specifically, this proves a conjecture of Billerey and Menares when $N$ is a product of two primes under some mild assumption. As an application, we show that for any $\ell\ge 5$ and $k=2$ or $\ell+1$, there exist a large class of distinct primes $p$ and $q$ such that the $\rm{mod}\,\ell$ representation $1 \oplus \overline{\chi}_\ell^{k-1}$ arises from a newform of weight $k$ and level $pq$ with explicit Atkin-Lehner eigenvalues., Comment: Comments are welcome

Abstract: We present the results of a search for gravitational-wave transients associated with core-collapse supernova SN 2023ixf, which was observed in the galaxy Messier 101 via optical emission on 2023 May 19th, during the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA 15th Engineering Run. We define a five-day on-source window during which an accompanying gravitational-wave signal may have occurred. No gravitational waves have been identified in data when at least two gravitational-wave observatories were operating, which covered $\sim 14\%$ of this five-day window. We report the search detection efficiency for various possible gravitational-wave emission models. Considering the distance to M101 (6.7 Mpc), we derive constraints on the gravitational-wave emission mechanism of core-collapse supernovae across a broad frequency spectrum, ranging from 50 Hz to 2 kHz where we assume the GW emission occurred when coincident data are available in the on-source window. Considering an ellipsoid model for a rotating proto-neutron star, our search is sensitive to gravitational-wave energy $1 \times 10^{-5} M_{\odot} c^2$ and luminosity $4 \times 10^{-5} M_{\odot} c^2/\text{s}$ for a source emitting at 50 Hz. These constraints are around an order of magnitude more stringent than those obtained so far with gravitational-wave data. Abstract: Open-vocabulary audio language models (ALMs), like Contrastive Language Audio Pretraining (CLAP), represent a promising new paradigm for audio-text retrieval using natural language queries. In this paper, for the first time, we perform controlled experiments on various benchmarks to show that existing ALMs struggle to generalize to linguistic variations in textual queries. To address this issue, we propose RobustCLAP, a novel and compute-efficient technique to learn audio-language representations agnostic to linguistic variations. Specifically, we reformulate the contrastive loss used in CLAP architectures by introducing a multi-view contrastive learning objective, where paraphrases are treated as different views of the same audio scene and use this for training. Our proposed approach improves the text-to-audio retrieval performance of CLAP by 0.8%-13% across benchmarks and enhances robustness to linguistic variation., Comment: 15 pages

Abstract: We use phase space distributions specifically, the Wigner distribution (WD) and Husimi distribution (HD) to investigate certain information-theoretic measures as descriptors for a given system. We extensively investigate and analyze Shannon, Wehrl and Renyi entropies, its divergences, mutual information and other correlation measures within the context of these phase space distributions. The analysis is illustrated with an anharmonic oscillator and is studied with respect to perturbation parameter ($\lambda$) and states ($n$). The entropies associated with the Wigner distribution are observed to be lower than those of the Husimi distribution, which aligns with the findings regarding the marginals. Moreover, the real components of the entropies associated with the Wigner distribution tend to approach the entropic uncertainty bound more closely compared to those of the corresponding Husimi distribution. Moreover, we quantify the precise amount of information lost when opting for the Husimi distribution over the Wigner distribution for characterizing the specified system. Since it is not always positive definite, the entropies cannot always be defined.

29. The Interplay Between Physical Activity, Protein Consumption, and Sleep Quality in Muscle Protein Synthesis

Abstract: This systematic review examines the synergistic and individual influences of resistance exercise, dietary protein supplementation, and sleep/recovery on muscle protein synthesis (MPS). Electronic databases such as Scopus, Google Scholar, and Web of Science were extensively used. Studies were selected based on relevance to the criteria and were ensured to be directly applicable to the objectives. Research indicates that a protein dose of 20 to 25 grams maximally stimulates MPS post-resistance training. It is observed that physically frail individuals aged 76 to 92 and middle-aged adults aged 62 to 74 have lower mixed muscle protein synthetic rates than individuals aged 20 to 32. High-whey protein and leucine-enriched supplements enhance MPS more efficiently than standard dairy products in older adults engaged in resistance programs. Similarly, protein intake before sleep boosts overnight MPS rates, which helps prevent muscle loss associated with sleep debt, exercise-induced damage, and muscle-wasting conditions like sarcopenia and cachexia. Resistance exercise is a functional intervention to achieve muscular adaptation and improve function. Future research should focus on variables such as fluctuating fitness levels, age groups, genetics, and lifestyle factors to generate more accurate and beneficial results.

30. Predicting Fractionalized Multi-Spin Excitations in Resonant Inelastic X-ray Spectra of Frustrated Spin-1/2 Trimer Chains

Abstract: We theoretically investigate the resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) spectra in a quasi-1D chain of weakly coupled frustrated spin-1/2 trimers, as realized in Na$_{2}$Cu$_{3}$Ge$_{4}$O$_{12}$, with Cu $d^{9}$ 1/2 spins. We compute multi-spin correlations contributing to spin-conserving (SC) and spin non-conserving (NSC) RIXS cross-sections using ultra-short core-hole lifetime expansion within the Kramer-Heisenberg formalism. These excitations involve flipping spins of up to three spin-1/2 trimers and include the inelastic neutron scattering (INS) single spin-flip excitations in the lowest order of the NSC channel. We identify the fractionalization of two coupled frustrated trimers in terms of spinons, doublons, and quartons in the spectra evaluated using exact diagonalization, complementing prior studies single spin-spin flip excitation in inelastic neutron scattering. Specifically, we uncover two new high-energy modes at $\omega \approx 2.4J_1$ and $3.0 J_1$ in the NSC and SC channels that are accessible at the Cu $K$-edge and $L$-edge RIXS spectra, which were missing in the INS study. This, therefore, provides pathways to uncover all the possible excitations in coupled trimers. Our work opens new opportunities for understanding the nature of fractionalization and RIXS spectra of frustrated, low-dimensional spin chains.

31. European Option Pricing in Regime Switching Framework via Physics-Informed Residual Learning

Abstract: In this article, we employ physics-informed residual learning (PIRL) and propose a pricing method for European options under a regime-switching framework, where closed-form solutions are not available. We demonstrate that the proposed approach serves an efficient alternative to competing pricing techniques for regime-switching models in the literature. Specifically, we demonstrate that PIRLs eliminate the need for retraining and become nearly instantaneous once trained, thus, offering an efficient and flexible tool for pricing options across a broad range of specifications and parameters.

32. Charged Lepton Flavour Violating Meson Decays in Seesaw Models

Abstract: The occurrence of neutrino oscillations demands the existence of flavour violation in charged lepton sector. The relation between the branching ratios of different charged lepton flavour violating (CLFV) decay modes depends on the details of the neutrino mass model. In this work, we consider the three types of simple seesaw mechanisms of neutrino masses and study the correlation between the radiative CLFV decays and the meson CLFV decays. We find that the meson CLFV decay branching ratios are negligibly small in type-II seesaw mechanism whereas they are constrained to be at least three (two) orders of magnitude smaller than the radiative CLFV decay branching ratios in the case of type-I (type-III) seesaw mechanism. Thus the relationship between these two modes of CLFV decays helps in distinguishing between different types of seesaw mechanism. If, the branching ratios of CLFV decays of mesons are larger than those of radiative CLFV decays, it provides a strong hint that the neutrino mass generating mechanism is more complicated than simple seesaw., Comment: new references added

Abstract: The magnetar SGR 1935+2154 is the only known Galactic source of fast radio bursts (FRBs). FRBs from SGR 1935+2154 were first detected by CHIME/FRB and STARE2 in 2020 April, after the conclusion of the LIGO, Virgo, and KAGRA Collaborations' O3 observing run. Here we analyze four periods of gravitational wave (GW) data from the GEO600 detector coincident with four periods of FRB activity detected by CHIME/FRB, as well as X-ray glitches and X-ray bursts detected by NICER and NuSTAR close to the time of one of the FRBs. We do not detect any significant GW emission from any of the events. Instead, using a short-duration GW search (for bursts $\leq$ 1 s) we derive 50\% (90\%) upper limits of $10^{48}$ ($10^{49}$) erg for GWs at 300 Hz and $10^{49}$ ($10^{50}$) erg at 2 kHz, and constrain the GW-to-radio energy ratio to $\leq 10^{14} - 10^{16}$. We also derive upper limits from a long-duration search for bursts with durations between 1 and 10 s. Abstract: We present a measurement of the branching fraction and time-dependent charge-parity ($CP$) decay-rate asymmetries in $B^0 \to J/\psi \pi^0$ decays. The data sample was collected with the Belle~II detector at the SuperKEKB asymmetric $e^+e^-$ collider in 2019-2022 and contains $(387\pm 6)\times 10^6$ $B\overline{B}$ meson pairs from $\Upsilon(4S)$ decays. We reconstruct $392\pm 24$ signal decays and fit the $CP$ parameters from the distribution of the proper-decay-time difference of the two $B$ mesons. We measure the branching fraction to be $B(B^0 \to J/\psi \pi^0)=(2.02 \pm 0.12 \pm 0.10)\times 10^{-5}$ and the direct and mixing-induced $CP$ asymmetries to be $C_{CP}=0.13 \pm 0.12 \pm 0.03$ and $S_{CP}=-0.88 \pm 0.17 \pm 0.03$, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. We observe mixing-induced $CP$ violation with a significance of $5.0$ standard deviations for the first time in this mode.

35. Towards Effective Deep Neural Network Approach for Multi-Trial P300-based Character Recognition in Brain-Computer Interfaces

Abstract: Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) enable direct interaction between users and computers by decoding brain signals. This study addresses the challenges of detecting P300 event-related potentials in electroencephalograms (EEGs) and integrating these P300 responses for character spelling, particularly within oddball paradigms characterized by uneven P300 distribution, low target probability, and poor signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). This work proposes a weighted ensemble spatio-sequential convolutional neural network (WE-SPSQ-CNN) to improve classification accuracy and SNR by mitigating signal variability for character identification. We evaluated the proposed WE-SPSQ-CNN on dataset II from the BCI Competition III, achieving P300 classification accuracies of 69.7\% for subject A and 79.9\% for subject B across fifteen epochs. For character recognition, the model achieved average accuracies of 76.5\%, 87.5\%, and 94.5\% with five, ten, and fifteen repetitions, respectively. Our proposed model outperformed state-of-the-art models in the five-repetition and delivered comparable performance in the ten and fifteen repetitions.

Abstract: This paper presents advancements in the functionalities of the Recupera-Reha lower extremity exoskeleton robot. The exoskeleton features a series-parallel hybrid design characterized by multiple kinematic loops resulting in 148 degrees of freedom in its spanning tree and 102 independent loop closure constraints, which poses significant challenges for modeling and control. To address these challenges, we applied an optimal control approach to generate feasible trajectories such as sitting, standing, and static walking, and tested these trajectories on the exoskeleton robot. Our method efficiently solves the optimal control problem using a serial abstraction of the model to generate trajectories. It then utilizes the full series-parallel hybrid model, which takes all the kinematic loop constraints into account to generate the final actuator commands. Abstract: The striped patterns in rocks, characterized by thin dark bands and thick light bands, are a result of the natural processes that have shaped the rocks through in situ metamorphism. Notably, the dark and light bands are composed of similar minerals, with the dark bands containing additional trapped materials such as fluid pockets or extra mineral grains. Here we employed the Gray-Scott Reaction Diffusion model to investigate the interaction between two sets of virtual chemicals, denoted as 'u' and 'v'. The differing diffusion and reaction rates of 'u' and 'v' chemical orders lead to the formation of 180 degree out-of-phase chemical domains, resulting in striped patterns. Abstract: The aim of this manuscript is to address non-linear differential equations of the Lane Emden equation of second order using the shifted Legendre neural network (SLNN) method. Here all the equations are classified as singular initial value problems. To manage the singularity challenge, we employ an artificial neural network method. The approach utilizes a neural network of a single layer, where the hidden layer is omitted by enlarge the input using shifted Legendre polynomials. We apply a feed forward neural network model along with the principle of error back propagation. The effectiveness of the Legendre Neural Network model is demonstrated through LaneEmden equations.

40. Boosting the transparency of metallic SrNbO3 through Ti doping

Abstract: In recent years, various materials have been developed to reduce the reliance of industries on Indium, a primary component of transparent conducting oxides (TCOs) used in the current generation of devices. The leading candidates for indium free TCOs are strontium vanadates, niobates and molybdates -- strongly correlated perovskite systems that exhibit high intrinsic electrical conductivity and optimal transparency. In this work, we focus on the strontium niobate thin films and manipulate its optical conductivity by Ti doping, which shifts the plasma frequency and reduces electronic correlations. This allows us to achieve a low resistance for Ti doped SNO thin films, while maintaining a high transparency in the visible spectrum. We obtain the optimal figure-of-merit (FOM) of 10.3 ($10^{-3}\Omega^{-1}$) for $x = 0.3$. This FOM significantly outperforms the optoelectronic capabilities of Tin-doped Indium oxide (ITO) and several other proposed transparent conductor materials. Abstract: Digital healthcare is essential to facilitate consumers to access and disseminate their medical data easily for enhanced medical care services. However, the significant concern with digitalization across healthcare systems necessitates for a prompt, productive, and secure storage facility along with a vigorous communication strategy, to stimulate sensitive digital healthcare data sharing and proactive estimation of malicious entities. In this context, this paper introduces a comprehensive quantum-based framework to overwhelm the potential security and privacy issues for secure healthcare data management. It equips quantum encryption for the secured storage and dispersal of healthcare data over the shared cloud platform by employing quantum encryption. Also, the framework furnishes a quantum feed-forward neural network unit to examine the intention behind the data request before granting access, for proactive estimation of potential data breach. In this way, the proposed framework delivers overall healthcare data management by coupling the advanced and more competent quantum approach with machine learning to safeguard the data storage, access, and prediction of malicious entities in an automated manner. Thus, the proposed IQ-HDM leads to more cooperative and effective healthcare delivery and empowers individuals with adequate custody of their health data. The experimental evaluation and comparison of the proposed IQ-HDM framework with state-of-the-art methods outline a considerable improvement up to 67.6%, in tackling cyber threats related to healthcare data security.

42. GCM-Net: Graph-enhanced Cross-Modal Infusion with a Metaheuristic-Driven Network for Video Sentiment and Emotion Analysis

Abstract: Sentiment analysis and emotion recognition in videos are challenging tasks, given the diversity and complexity of the information conveyed in different modalities. Developing a highly competent framework that effectively addresses the distinct characteristics across various modalities is a primary concern in this domain. Previous studies on combined multimodal sentiment and emotion analysis often overlooked effective fusion for modality integration, intermodal contextual congruity, optimizing concatenated feature spaces, leading to suboptimal architecture. This paper presents a novel framework that leverages the multi-modal contextual information from utterances and applies metaheuristic algorithms to learn the contributing features for utterance-level sentiment and emotion prediction. Our Graph-enhanced Cross-Modal Infusion with a Metaheuristic-Driven Network (GCM-Net) integrates graph sampling and aggregation to recalibrate the modality features for video sentiment and emotion prediction. GCM-Net includes a cross-modal attention module determining intermodal interactions and utterance relevance. A harmonic optimization module employing a metaheuristic algorithm combines attended features, allowing for handling both single and multi-utterance inputs. To show the effectiveness of our approach, we have conducted extensive evaluations on three prominent multi-modal benchmark datasets, CMU MOSI, CMU MOSEI, and IEMOCAP. The experimental results demonstrate the efficacy of our proposed approach, showcasing accuracies of 91.56% and 86.95% for sentiment analysis on MOSI and MOSEI datasets. We have performed emotion analysis for the IEMOCAP dataset procuring an accuracy of 85.66% which signifies substantial performance enhancements over existing methods.

43. Beamsplitter-free, high bit-rate, quantum random number generator based on temporal and spatial correlations of heralded single-photons

Abstract: The spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC), an inherently random quantum process, produces a non-deterministic photon-pair with strong temporal and spatial correlations owing to both energy and momentum conservation. Therefore, the SPDC-based photon pairs are used for quantum random number generation (QRNG). Typically, temporal correlation in association with an ideal unbiased beam splitter is used for QRNG without fully exploring the spatial correction. As a result, SPDC-based QRNG has a low bit rate. On the other hand, due to the spatial correlation, the photon pairs in non-collinear phase-matched geometry are generated randomly in diametrically opposite points over an annular ring spatial distribution. Therefore, exploring the temporal correlation between photon pairs from different sections of the annual ring can lead to multi-bit QRNG at a high rate, avoiding the need for a beam splitter. As a proof-of-concept, we report on high-bit-rate QRNG by using spatial correlation of photon-pairs by sectioning the SPDC ring of a non-collinear, degenerate, high-brightness source and temporal correlation between the diametrically opposite sections. Dividing the annular ring of the high-brightness photon-pair source based on a 20 mm long, type-0 phase-matched, periodically-poled KTP crystal into four sections, recording the timestamp of the coincidences (widow of 1 ns) between photons from diametrically opposite sections and assigning bits (0 and 1), we extracted 90 million raw bits over 27.7 s at a pump power of 17 mW. We determined the extraction ratio using the minimum entropy evaluation of more than 95% in our case. Using Toeplitz matrix-based post-processing, we achieved a QRNG with a bit-rate of 3 Mbps, passing all NIST 800-22 and TestU01 test suites. The generic scheme shows the possibility of further enhancement of the bit rate through more sectioning of the SPDC ring.

Abstract: This paper investigates how teachers learn about race in the school context, with a particular focus on teachers' development of racial competency. Using in-depth, semi-structured interviews we find that teachers learn through three sources: from their peers, from years of experience, and from teacher preparation and in-service experiences. Furthermore, we find that learning occurs both informally and formally and that these sources of learning are moderated by three contextual factors: career status, school culture, and out-of-school factors We find that teachers rely most on informal avenues and encounters to develop racial competency.

Abstract: In the fair division of items among interested agents, envy-freeness is possibly the most favoured and widely studied formalisation of fairness. For indivisible items, envy-free allocations may not exist in trivial cases, and hence research and practice focus on relaxations, particularly envy-freeness up to one item (EF1). A significant reason for the popularity of EF1 allocations is its simple fact of existence. It is known that EF1 allocations exist for two agents with arbitrary valuations; agents with doubly-monotone valuations; agents with Boolean valuations; and identical agents with negative Boolean valuations. We consider two new but natural classes of valuations, and partly extend results on the existence of EF1 allocations to these valuations. Firstly, we consider trilean valuations - an extension of Boolean valuations - when the value of any subset is 0, $a$, or $b$ for any integers $a$ and $b$. Secondly, we define separable single-peaked valuations, when the set of items is partitioned into types. For each type, an agent's value is a single-peaked function of the number of items of the type. The value for a set of items is the sum of values for the different types. We prove EF1 existence for identical trilean valuations for any number of agents, and for separable single-peaked valuations for three agents. For both classes of valuations, we also show that EFX allocations do not exist.

48. Memristive Nanowire Network for Energy Efficient Audio Classification: Pre-Processing-Free Reservoir Computing with Reduced Latency

Abstract: Speech recognition is a key challenge in natural language processing, requiring low latency, efficient computation, and strong generalization for real-time applications. While software-based artificial neural networks (ANNs) excel at this task, they are computationally intensive and depend heavily on data pre-processing. Neuromorphic computing, with its low-latency and energy-efficient advantages, holds promise for audio classification. Memristive nanowire networks, combined with pre-processing techniques like Mel-Frequency Cepstrum Coefficient extraction, have been widely used for associative learning, but such pre-processing can be power-intensive, undermining latency benefits. This study pioneers the use of memristive and spatio-temporal properties of nanowire networks for audio signal classification without pre-processing. A nanowire network simulation is paired with three linear classifiers for 10-class MNIST audio classification and binary speaker generalization tests. The hybrid system achieves significant benefits: excellent data compression with only 3% of nanowire output utilized, a 10-fold reduction in computational latency, and up to 28.5% improved classification accuracy (using a logistic regression classifier). Precision and recall improve by 10% and 17% for multispeaker datasets, and by 24% and 17% for individual speaker datasets, compared to raw data classifiers.This work provides a foundational proof of concept for utilizing memristive nanowire networks (NWN) in edge-computing devices, showcasing their potential for efficient, real-time audio signal processing with reduced computational overhead and power consumption, and enabling the development of advanced neuromorphic computing solutions., Comment: 17 pages, 6 Figures

Abstract: Synchronization forms the basis of many coordination phenomena in natural systems, enabling them to function cohesively and support their fundamental operations. However, there are scenarios where synchronization disrupts a system's proper functioning, necessitating mechanisms to control or suppress it. While several methods exist for controlling synchronization in non-spatially embedded oscillators, to the best of our knowledge no such strategies have been developed for swarmalators (oscillators that simultaneously move in space and synchronize in time). In this work, we address this gap by introducing a novel control strategy based on Hamiltonian control theory to suppress synchronization in a system of swarmalators confined to a one-dimensional space. The numerical investigations we performed, demonstrate that the proposed control strategy effectively suppresses synchronized dynamics within the swarmalator population. We studied the impact of the number of controlled swarmalators as well as the strength of the control term, in its original form and in a simplified one.

50. Beyond Logit Lens: Contextual Embeddings for Robust Hallucination Detection & Grounding in VLMs

Abstract: The rapid development of Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) has significantly advanced multimodal understanding by harnessing the language abilities of Large Language Models (LLMs) and integrating modality-specific encoders. However, LMMs are plagued by hallucinations that limit their reliability and adoption. While traditional methods to detect and mitigate these hallucinations often involve costly training or rely heavily on external models, recent approaches utilizing internal model features present a promising alternative. In this paper, we critically assess the limitations of the state-of-the-art training-free technique, the logit lens, in handling generalized visual hallucinations. We introduce a refined method that leverages contextual token embeddings from middle layers of LMMs. This approach significantly improves hallucination detection and grounding across diverse categories, including actions and OCR, while also excelling in tasks requiring contextual understanding, such as spatial relations and attribute comparison. Our novel grounding technique yields highly precise bounding boxes, facilitating a transition from Zero-Shot Object Segmentation to Grounded Visual Question Answering. Our contributions pave the way for more reliable and interpretable multimodal models.
