Chalcogenide material-based integrated photonic devices have garnered widespread attention due to their unique wideband transparency. Despite their recognized CMOS compatibility, the fabrication of these devices relies predominantly on lithography techniques. However, chalcogenide thin films are highly susceptible to oxidation, necessitating customized process flows and complex protective measures during lithography. These requirements are hardly compatible with current commercial CMOS manufacturing platforms designed for silicon photonics, significantly limiting the practical applications of chalcogenide photonic devices. In this work, we ingeniously exploit the ease of oxidation of chalcogenide materials, presenting a novel laser-induced localized oxidation technique for spatial patterning on chalcogenide thin films, enabling concise lithography-free fabrication of chalcogenide integrated photonic devices. Using Sb2S3 as an example, we experimentally demonstrate localized multi-level oxidation with a sizable overall refractive index contrast of 0.7 at near-infrared, featuring a high spatial resolution of 0.6 um. Based on this technique, multiple integrated photonic devices are demonstrated, showing versatile functionalities, including color printing at visible and metasurface-based spatial light modulation at near-infrared regions. Leveraging the inherent phase-change property of Sb2S3, an active Fresnel zone plate, enabling switchable beam focusing, is further demonstrated, indicating the feasibility of concise fabrication of active photonic devices. Our work offers a brand-new modulation dimension for chalcogenide materials and provides a significantly simplified approach for realizing chalcogenide-integrated photonic devices.

This paper presents the first results of the study of high-energy electron and muon neutrino charged-current interactions in the FASER$\nu$ emulsion/tungsten detector of the FASER experiment at the LHC. A subset of the FASER$\nu$ volume, which corresponds to a target mass of 128.6~kg, was exposed to neutrinos from the LHC $pp$ collisions with a centre-of-mass energy of 13.6~TeV and an integrated luminosity of 9.5 fb$^{-1}$. Applying stringent selections requiring electrons with reconstructed energy above 200~GeV, four electron neutrino interaction candidate events are observed with an expected background of $0.025^{+0.015}_{-0.010}$, leading to a statistical significance of 5.2$\sigma$. This is the first direct observation of electron neutrino interactions at a particle collider. Eight muon neutrino interaction candidate events are also detected, with an expected background of $0.22^{+0.09}_{-0.07}$, leading to a statistical significance of 5.7$\sigma$. The signal events include neutrinos with energies in the TeV range, the highest-energy electron and muon neutrinos ever detected from an artificial source. The energy-independent part of the interaction cross section per nucleon is measured over an energy range of 560--1740 GeV (520--1760 GeV) for $\nu_e$ ($\nu_{\mu}$) to be $(1.2_{-0.7}^{+0.8}) \times 10^{-38}~\mathrm{cm}^{2}\,\mathrm{GeV}^{-1}$ ($(0.5\pm0.2) \times 10^{-38}~\mathrm{cm}^{2}\,\mathrm{GeV}^{-1}$), consistent with Standard Model predictions. These are the first measurements of neutrino interaction cross sections in those energy ranges.

The Forward Search Experiment (FASER) at CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has recently directly detected the first collider neutrinos. Neutrinos play an important role in all FASER analyses, either as signal or background, and it is therefore essential to understand the neutrino event rates. In this study, we update previous simulations and present prescriptions for theoretical predictions of neutrino fluxes and cross sections, together with their associated uncertainties. With these results, we discuss the potential for possible measurements that could be carried out in the coming years with the FASER neutrino data to be collected in LHC Run 3 and Run 4., Comment: 19 pages, 10 figures

We propose to use slow muons facilities combined with cyclotron radiation detection for precision test of the weak interaction in the muon decays. Slow positive muon bunches are first injected into a cylindrical superconducting vacuum chamber with uniform strong axial magnetic fields to radially confine the muons. The positrons resulting from muon decays can be detected by their cyclotron radiation, which can be transported to low-noise electronic devices through waveguides coupled to the chamber. The decay positron's energy can be precisely measured down to eV level in the low energy region, which is sensitive to new physics effects such as Majorana neutrinos and new structures of weak interactions.

In High-Energy Physics experiments it is often necessary to evaluate the global statistical significance of apparent resonances observed in invariant mass spectra. One approach to determining significance is to use simulated events to find the probability of a random fluctuation in the background mimicking a real signal. As a high school summer project, we demonstrate a method with Monte Carlo simulated events to evaluate the global significance of a potential resonance with some assumptions. Among different phases of the life cycle of a building or facility, design is of the utmost importance to ensure safety, efficiency and sustainability of the building or facility. How to control and improve design quality and efficiency has been explored for years, and more studies emerged with the popularization of Building Information Modelling (BIM). However, most of them focused on the extraction of design behaviors, while paying less attention to how a design is formed. Therefore, this study proposes an approach to tracking and replaying the BIM-based design process by integrating data logging and 4D visualization techniques. First of all, potential design behaviors and procedures are analyzed and extracted by observing how a designer designs a BIM model. Meanwhile, the required data for logging design process is defined and a relevant method to collect these data is developed based on the APIs of BIM software. Then, strategies on how to visualize different design procedures are designed and implemented via 4D visualization. Finally, a prototype system is developed based on Autodesk Revit and validated through a case study. Result shows that the proposed approach enables intuitively and interactively review of the design process, and makes it easier to understand design behaviors and even identify potential pitfalls, thus improving the design efficiency and quality.

On top of machine learning models, uncertainty quantification (UQ) functions as an essential layer of safety assurance that could lead to more principled decision making by enabling sound risk assessment and management. The safety and reliability improvement of ML models empowered by UQ has the potential to significantly facilitate the broad adoption of ML solutions in high-stakes decision settings, such as healthcare, manufacturing, and aviation, to name a few. In this tutorial, we aim to provide a holistic lens on emerging UQ methods for ML models with a particular focus on neural networks and the applications of these UQ methods in tackling engineering design as well as prognostics and health management problems. Toward this goal, we start with a comprehensive classification of uncertainty types, sources, and causes pertaining to UQ of ML models. Next, we provide a tutorial-style description of several state-of-the-art UQ methods: Gaussian process regression, Bayesian neural network, neural network ensemble, and deterministic UQ methods focusing on spectral-normalized neural Gaussian process. Established upon the mathematical formulations, we subsequently examine the soundness of these UQ methods quantitatively and qualitatively (by a toy regression example) to examine their strengths and shortcomings from different dimensions. Then, we review quantitative metrics commonly used to assess the quality of predictive uncertainty in classification and regression problems. Afterward, we discuss the increasingly important role of UQ of ML models in solving challenging problems in engineering design and health prognostics. Two case studies with source codes available on GitHub are used to demonstrate these UQ methods and compare their performance in the life prediction of lithium-ion batteries at the early stage and the remaining useful life prediction of turbofan engines.

We report the first direct observation of neutrino interactions at a particle collider experiment. Neutrino candidate events are identified in a 13.6 TeV center-of-mass energy $pp$ collision data set of 35.4 fb${}^{-1}$ using the active electronic components of the FASER detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The candidates are required to have a track propagating through the entire length of the FASER detector and be consistent with a muon neutrino charged-current interaction. We infer $153^{+12}_{-13}$ neutrino interactions with a significance of 16 standard deviations above the background-only hypothesis. These events are consistent with the characteristics expected from neutrino interactions in terms of secondary particle production and spatial distribution, and they imply the observation of both neutrinos and anti-neutrinos with an incident neutrino energy of significantly above 200 GeV., Comment: Submitted to PRL on March 24 2023

We present a flexible and scalable approach to address the challenges of charged particle track reconstruction in real-time event filters (Level-1 triggers) in collider physics experiments. The method described here is based on a full-mesh architecture for data distribution and relies on the Associative Memory approach to implement a pattern recognition algorithm that quickly identifies and organizes hits associated to trajectories of particles originating from particle collisions. We describe a successful implementation of a demonstration system composed of several innovative hardware and algorithmic elements. The implementation of a full-size system relies on the assumption that an Associative Memory device with the sufficient pattern density becomes available in the future, either through a dedicated ASIC or a modern FPGA. We demonstrate excellent performance in terms of track reconstruction efficiency, purity, momentum resolution, and processing time measured with data from a simulated LHC-like tracking detector.

As an emerging technology in the era of Industry 4.0, digital twin is gaining unprecedented attention because of its promise to further optimize process design, quality control, health monitoring, decision and policy making, and more, by comprehensively modeling the physical world as a group of interconnected digital models. In a two-part series of papers, we examine the fundamental role of different modeling techniques, twinning enabling technologies, and uncertainty quantification and optimization methods commonly used in digital twins. This second paper presents a literature review of key enabling technologies of digital twins, with an emphasis on uncertainty quantification, optimization methods, open source datasets and tools, major findings, challenges, and future directions. Discussions focus on current methods of uncertainty quantification and optimization and how they are applied in different dimensions of a digital twin. Additionally, this paper presents a case study where a battery digital twin is constructed and tested to illustrate some of the modeling and twinning methods reviewed in this two-part review. This first paper presents a thorough literature review of digital twin trends across many disciplines currently pursuing this area of research. Then, digital twin modeling and twinning enabling technologies are further analyzed by classifying them into two main categories: physical-to-virtual, and virtual-to-physical, based on the direction in which data flows. Finally, this paper provides perspectives on the trajectory of digital twin technology over the next decade, and introduces a few emerging areas of research which will likely be of great use in future digital twin research. In part two of this review, the role of uncertainty quantification and optimization are discussed, a battery digital twin is demonstrated, and more perspectives on the future of digital twin are shared.

A sp2-sp3 hybrid carbon allotrope named HSH-carbon is proposed by the first-principles calculations. The structure of HSH-carbon can be regarded as a template polymerization of [1.1.1]propellane molecules in a hexagonal lattice, as well as, an AA stacking of recently reported HSH-C10 consisting of carbon trigonal bipyramids. Based on calculations, the stability of this structure is demonstrated in terms of the cohesive energy, phonon dispersion, Born-Huang stability criteria, and ab initio molecular dynamics. HSH-carbon is predicted to be a semiconductor with an indirect energy gap of 3.56 eV at the PBE level or 4.80 eV at the HSE06 level. It is larger than the gap of Si and close to the gap of c-diamond, which indicates HSH-carbon is potentially an ultrawide bandgap semiconductor. The effective masses of carriers in the VB and CB edge are comparable with wide bandgap semiconductors such as GaN and ZnO. The elastic behavior of HSH-carbon such as bulk modulus, Young's modulus and shear modulus is comparable with that of T-carbon and much smaller than that of c-diamond, which suggests that HSH-carbon would be much easier to be processed than c-diamond in practice.

FASER, the ForwArd Search ExpeRiment, is an experiment dedicated to searching for light, extremely weakly-interacting particles at CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Such particles may be produced in the very forward direction of the LHC's high-energy collisions and then decay to visible particles inside the FASER detector, which is placed 480 m downstream of the ATLAS interaction point, aligned with the beam collisions axis. FASER also includes a sub-detector, FASER$\nu$, designed to detect neutrinos produced in the LHC collisions and to study their properties. In this paper, each component of the FASER detector is described in detail, as well as the installation of the experiment system and its commissioning using cosmic-rays collected in September 2021 and during the LHC pilot beam test carried out in October 2021. FASER is a new experiment designed to search for new light weakly-interacting long-lived particles (LLPs) and study high-energy neutrino interactions in the very forward region of the LHC collisions at CERN. The experimental apparatus is situated 480 m downstream of the ATLAS interaction-point aligned with the beam collision axis. The FASER detector includes four identical tracker stations constructed from silicon microstrip detectors. Three of the tracker stations form a tracking spectrometer, and enable FASER to detect the decay products of LLPs decaying inside the apparatus, whereas the fourth station is used for the neutrino analysis. The spectrometer has been installed in the LHC complex since March 2021, while the fourth station is not yet installed. FASER will start physics data taking when the LHC resumes operation in early 2022. This paper describes the design, construction and testing of the tracking spectrometer, including the associated components such as the mechanics, readout electronics, power supplies and cooling system.

The FASER experiment is a new small and inexpensive experiment that is placed 480 meters downstream of the ATLAS experiment at the CERN LHC. FASER is designed to capture decays of new long-lived particles, produced outside of the ATLAS detector acceptance. These rare particles can decay in the FASER detector together with about 500-1000 Hz of other particles originating from the ATLAS interaction point. A very high efficiency trigger and data acquisition system is required to ensure that the physics events of interest will be recorded. This paper describes the trigger and data acquisition system of the FASER experiment and presents performance results of the system acquired during initial commissioning.

A cluster of soft displaced tracks corresponds to the dark matter co-annihilation regime. The long-lived regime is, in particular, motivated by the unexplored top partner physics. The background in this regime is extremely challenging to model using a traditional simulation method. We demonstrate the feasibility of handling the formidable background using the CMS Open Data. We perform this analysis to search for compressed and long-lived top partners in the 8 TeV CMS Open Data events with the integrated luminosity of 11.6 fb$^{-1}$ and obtain new limits. With 15-30 GeV mass splitting between the top partner and the DM candidate, we exclude the top partner mass below 350 GeV, which is more stringent than the ATLAS and CMS results using 8 TeV data with 20 fb$^{-1}$ luminosity. Our study also shows that the CMS Open Data can be a powerful tool to help physicists explore non-conventional new physics and even enable deriving new limits on exotic signals from data directly., Comment: 18 pages, 12 figures

FASER$\nu$ at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is designed to directly detect collider neutrinos for the first time and study their cross sections at TeV energies, where no such measurements currently exist. In 2018, a pilot detector employing emulsion films was installed in the far-forward region of ATLAS, 480 m from the interaction point, and collected 12.2 fb$^{-1}$ of proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. We describe the analysis of this pilot run data and the observation of the first neutrino interaction candidates at the LHC. The search for a dark photon produced at $e^{+}e^{-}$ colliders which subsequently decays into inelastic dark matter particles, is discussed. The heavier dark matter decays into a pair of visible charged particles and a lighter dark matter particle after traveling some distance. The visible decay products can be recorded by a dark matter detector made of emulsions and gas detectors, placed near the main $e^{+}e^{-}$ detector. This setup can not only explore new parameter regions not reached before, but also re-open some regions thought to be excluded by previous experimental data. The physics potential for such a detector around BESIII and Belle II is presented.

FASERnu is a proposed small and inexpensive emulsion detector designed to detect collider neutrinos for the first time and study their properties. FASERnu will be located directly in front of FASER, 480 m from the ATLAS interaction point along the beam collision axis in the unused service tunnel TI12. From 2021-23 during Run 3 of the 14 TeV LHC, roughly 1,300 electron neutrinos, 20,000 muon neutrinos, and 20 tau neutrinos will interact in FASERnu with TeV-scale energies. With the ability to observe these interactions, reconstruct their energies, and distinguish flavors, FASERnu will probe the production, propagation, and interactions of neutrinos at the highest human-made energies ever recorded. The FASERnu detector will be composed of 1000 emulsion layers interleaved with tungsten plates. The total volume of the emulsion and tungsten is 25cm x 25cm x 1.35m, and the tungsten target mass is 1.2 tonnes. From 2021-23, 7 sets of emulsion layers will be installed, with replacement roughly every 20-50 1/fb in planned Technical Stops. In this document, we summarize FASERnu's physics goals and discuss the estimates of neutrino flux and interaction rates. We then describe the FASERnu detector in detail, including plans for assembly, transport, installation, and emulsion replacement, and procedures for emulsion readout and analyzing the data. We present a Chinese judicial reading comprehension (CJRC) dataset which contains approximately 10K documents and almost 50K questions with answers. The documents come from judgment documents and the questions are annotated by law experts. The CJRC dataset can help researchers extract elements by reading comprehension technology. Element extraction is an important task in the legal field. However, it is difficult to predefine the element types completely due to the diversity of document types and causes of action. By contrast, machine reading comprehension technology can quickly extract elements by answering various questions from the long document. We build two strong baseline models based on BERT and BiDAF. The experimental results show that there is enough space for improvement compared to human annotators.

On periodic structures sandwiched between two homogeneous media, a bound state in the continuum (BIC) is a guided Bloch mode with a frequency within the radiation continuum. BICs are useful, since they give rise to high quality-factor ($Q$-factor) resonances that enhance local fields for diffraction problems with given incident waves. For any BIC on a periodic structure, there is always a surrounding family of resonant modes with $Q$-factors approaching infinity. We analyze field enhancement around BICs using analytic and numerical methods. Based on a perturbation method, we show that field enhancement is proportional to the square-root of the $Q$-factor, and it depends on the adjoint resonant mode and its coupling efficiency with incident waves. Numerical results are presented to show different asymptotic relations between the field enhancement and the Bloch wavevector for different BICs. Our study provides a useful guideline for applications relying on resonant enhancement of local fields.

In this paper, we introduce CAIL2019-SCM, Chinese AI and Law 2019 Similar Case Matching dataset. CAIL2019-SCM contains 8,964 triplets of cases published by the Supreme People's Court of China. CAIL2019-SCM focuses on detecting similar cases, and the participants are required to check which two cases are more similar in the triplets. There are 711 teams who participated in this year's competition, and the best team has reached a score of 71.88. We have also implemented several baselines to help researchers better understand this task. On a lossless periodic dielectric structure sandwiched between two homogeneous media, bound states in the continuum (BICs) with real frequencies and real Bloch wavevectors may exist, and they decay exponentially in the surrounding homogeneous media and do not couple with propagating plane waves with the same frequencies and wavevectors. The BICs are of significant current interest, because they give rise to high-$Q$ resonances when the structure or the Bloch wavevector is slightly perturbed. In this paper, the effect of a small material loss on the BICs is analyzed by a perturbation method and illustrated by numerical results. It is shown that bound states with complex frequencies near the continuum appear, but they behave differently depending on whether the BIC is symmetry-protected or not. The Bloch wavevector of a bound state with a complex frequency can be real if the original BIC is symmetry-protected, and it is usually complex if the original BIC is not symmetry-protected. Our study improves the theoretical understanding on BICs and provides useful insight for their practical applications.

Neutrinos are copiously produced at particle colliders, but no collider neutrino has ever been detected. Colliders, and particularly hadron colliders, produce both neutrinos and anti-neutrinos of all flavors at very high energies, and they are therefore highly complementary to those from other sources. FASER, the recently approved Forward Search Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, is ideally located to provide the first detection and study of collider neutrinos. We investigate the prospects for neutrino studies of a proposed component of FASER, FASER$\nu$, a 25cm x 25cm x 1.35m emulsion detector to be placed directly in front of the FASER spectrometer in tunnel TI12. FASER$\nu$ consists of 1000 layers of emulsion films interleaved with 1-mm-thick tungsten plates, with a total tungsten target mass of 1.2 tons. We estimate the neutrino fluxes and interaction rates at FASER$\nu$, describe the FASER$\nu$ detector, and analyze the characteristics of the signals and primary backgrounds. For an integrated luminosity of 150 fb$^{-1}$ to be collected during Run 3 of the 14 TeV Large Hadron Collider from 2021-23, and assuming standard model cross sections, approximately 1300 electron neutrinos, 20,000 muon neutrinos, and 20 tau neutrinos will interact in FASER$\nu$, with mean energies of 600 GeV to 1 TeV, depending on the flavor. With such rates and energies, FASER will measure neutrino cross sections at energies where they are currently unconstrained, will bound models of forward particle production, and could open a new window on physics beyond the standard model., Comment: Version published in EPJ C

A generic heavy Higgs has both dim-4 and effective dim-6 interactions with the Standard Model (SM) particles. The former has been the focus of LHC searches in all major Higgs production channels, just as the SM one, but with negative results so far. If the heavy Higgs is connected with Beyond Standard Model (BSM) physics at a few TeV scale, its dim-6 operators will play a very important role - they significantly enhance the Higgs momentum, and reduce the SM background in a special phase space corner to a level such that a heavy Higgs emerges, which is not possible with dim-4 operators only. We focus on the associated VH production channel, where the effect of dim-6 operators is the largest and the SM background is the lowest. Main search regions for this type of signal are identified, and substructure variables of boosted jets are employed to enhance the signal from backgrounds. The parameter space of these operators are scanned over, and expected exclusion regions with 300 fb$^{-1}$ and 3 ab$^{-1}$ LHC data are shown, if no BSM is present. The strategy given in this paper will shed light on a heavy Higgs which may be otherwise hiding in the present and future LHC data.

In this paper, we give an overview of the Legal Judgment Prediction (LJP) competition at Chinese AI and Law challenge (CAIL2018). This competition focuses on LJP which aims to predict the judgment results according to the given facts. Specifically, in CAIL2018 , we proposed three subtasks of LJP for the contestants, i.e., predicting relevant law articles, charges and prison terms given the fact descriptions. CAIL2018 has attracted several hundreds participants (601 teams, 1, 144 contestants from 269 organizations). In this paper, we introduce the \textbf{C}hinese \textbf{AI} and \textbf{L}aw challenge dataset (CAIL2018), the first large-scale Chinese legal dataset for judgment prediction. \dataset contains more than $2.6$ million criminal cases published by the Supreme People's Court of China, which are several times larger than other datasets in existing works on judgment prediction. Moreover, the annotations of judgment results are more detailed and rich. It consists of applicable law articles, charges, and prison terms, which are expected to be inferred according to the fact descriptions of cases. For comparison, we implement several conventional text classification baselines for judgment prediction and experimental results show that it is still a challenge for current models to predict the judgment results of legal cases, especially on prison terms. The synthesis of antimonene, which is a promising group-V 2D material for both fundamental studies and technological applications, remains highly challenging. Thus far, it has been synthesized only by exfoliation or growth on a few substrates. In this study, we show that thin layers of antimonene can be grown on Ag (111) by molecular beam epitaxy. High-resolution scanning tunneling microscopy combined with theoretical calculations revealed that the submonolayer Sb deposited on a Ag (111) surface forms a layer of AgSb2 surface alloy upon annealing. Further deposition of Sb on the AgSb2 surface alloy causes an epitaxial layer of Sb to form, which is identified as antimonene with a buckled honeycomb structure. More interestingly, the lattice constant of the epitaxial antimonene (5 {\AA}) is much larger than that of freestanding antimonene, indicating a high tensile strain of more than 20%. We review the results on the bottomonium system from the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Measurements have been carried out at different center-of-mass energies in proton collisions and in collisions involving heavy ions. These include precision measurements of cross sections and polarizations, shedding light on hadroproduction mechanisms, and the observation of quarkonium sequential suppression, a notable indication of quark-gluon plasma formation. Pretraining is widely used in deep neutral network and one of the most famous pretraining models is Deep Belief Network (DBN). The optimization formulas are different during the pretraining process for different pretraining models. In this paper, we pretrained deep neutral network by different pretraining models and hence investigated the difference between DBN and Stacked Denoising Autoencoder (SDA) when used as pretraining model. The experimental results show that DBN get a better initial model. However the model converges to a relatively worse model after the finetuning process. Yet after pretrained by SDA for the second time the model converges to a better model if finetuned.

A multiple input multiple output ultra-wideband cognitive radar based on compressive sensing is presented in this letter. For traditional UWB radar, high sampling rate analog to digital converter at the receiver is required to meet Shannon theorem, which increases hardware complexity. In order to bypass the bottleneck of ADC or further increase the radar bandwidth using the latest wideband ADC, we propose to exploit CS for signal reconstruction at the receiver of UWB radar for the sparse targets in the surveillance area. Besides, the function of narrowband interference cancellation is integrated into the proposed MIMO UWB radar. In traditional multiple instance learning (MIL), both positive and negative bags are required to learn a prediction function. However, a high human cost is needed to know the label of each bag---positive or negative. Only positive bags contain our focus (positive instances) while negative bags consist of noise or background (negative instances). So we do not expect to spend too much to label the negative bags. Contrary to our expectation, nearly all existing MIL methods require enough negative bags besides positive ones. In this paper we propose an algorithm called "Positive Multiple Instance" (PMI), which learns a classifier given only a set of positive bags. So the annotation of negative bags becomes unnecessary in our method. PMI is constructed based on the assumption that the unknown positive instances in positive bags be similar each other and constitute one compact cluster in feature space and the negative instances locate outside this cluster. The experimental results demonstrate that PMI achieves the performances close to or a little worse than those of the traditional MIL algorithms on benchmark and real data sets. However, the number of training bags in PMI is reduced significantly compared with traditional MIL algorithms.

Audio Classical Composer Identification (ACC) is an important problem in Music Information Retrieval (MIR) which aims at identifying the composer for audio classical music clips. The famous annual competition, Music Information Retrieval Evaluation eXchange (MIREX), also takes it as one of the four training&testing tasks. We built a hybrid model based on Deep Belief Network (DBN) and Stacked Denoising Autoencoder (SDA) to identify the composer from audio signal. As a matter of copyright, sponsors of MIREX cannot publish their data set. We built a comparable data set to test our model. We got an accuracy of 76.26% in our data set which is better than some pure models and shallow models. We think our method is promising even though we test it in a different data set, since our data set is comparable to that in MIREX by size. We also found that samples from different classes become farther away from each other when transformed by more layers in our model., Comment: I will update it

Spectrum sensing is a fundamental problem in cognitive radio. We propose a function of covariance matrix based detection algorithm for spectrum sensing in cognitive radio network. Monotonically increasing property of function of matrix involving trace operation is utilized as the cornerstone for this algorithm. The advantage of proposed algorithm is it works under extremely low signal-to-noise ratio, like lower than -30 dB with limited sample data. Theoretical analysis of threshold setting for the algorithm is discussed. There is a trend of applying machine learning algorithms to cognitive radio. One fundamental open problem is to determine how and where these algorithms are useful in a cognitive radio network. In radar and sensing signal processing, the control of degrees of freedom (DOF)---or dimensionality---is the first step, called pre-processing. In this paper, the combination of dimensionality reduction with SVM is proposed apart from only applying SVM for classification in cognitive radio. Measured Wi-Fi signals with high signal to noise ratio (SNR) are employed to the experiments. The DOF of Wi-Fi signals is extracted by dimensionality reduction techniques. Experimental results show that with dimensionality reduction, the performance of classification is much better with fewer features than that of without dimensionality reduction. The error rates of classification with only one feature of the proposed algorithm can match the error rates of 13 features of the original data. The proposed method will be further tested in our cognitive radio network testbed.
