- Abstract
Activities for a field experience program involving 50-60 methods students and as many sixth graders is described; the program explores the cemetery as a place to pull together skills and concepts from subjects like reading, mathematics, language arts, science, and social studies. Activities involve tombstone rubbings, family trees, writing poetry and epitaphs, treasure hunts, exploring causes of death in the last century, investigation graveside ecology, and graphing demographic data. The future teachers benefit from this program through exposure to teaching and learning in an alternative setting. The children benefit through the improved quality of their project work and indications of a high level of positive cognitive change as well as affective change. (DS)
