Context: From redshift 6 to redshift $\approx$ 4 galaxies grow rapidly from low mass galaxies towards the more mature massive galaxies we see at the cosmic noon. Growth via gas accretion and mergers undoubtedly shape this evolution - however, there currently exists much uncertainty over the contribution of each of these processes to the overall evolution of galaxies. Furthermore, previous characterisations of the morphology of galaxies in the molecular gas phase has been limited by the coarse resolution of previous observations. Aims: The goal of this paper is to derive the morpho-kinematic properties of 3 main-sequence systems at $z\sim4.5$, drawn from the ALPINE survey, using brand new high-resolution ALMA data in band 7. The objects were previously characterised as one merger with three components, and and two dispersion-dominated galaxies. Methods: We use intensity and velocity maps, position-velocity diagrams and radial profiles of [CII], in combination with dust continuum maps, to analyse the morphology and kinematics of the 3 systems.} Results: In general, we find that the high-resolution ALMA data reveal more complex morpho-kinematic properties. We identify in one galaxy interaction-induced clumps, showing the profound effect that mergers have on the molecular gas in galaxies, consistent with what is suggested in recent simulations. A galaxy that was previously classified as dispersion dominated turned out to show two bright [CII] emission regions, that could either be merging galaxies or massive star-forming regions within the galaxy itself. The high resolution data for the other dispersion dominated object also revealed clumps of [CII] that were not previously identified. Within the sample, we might also detect star-formation powered outflows (or outflows from Active Galactic Nuclei) which appear to be fuelling diffuse gas regions and enriching the circumgalactic medium., Comment: Submitted to A&A, 13 pages

The Kennicutt-Schmidt (KS) relation between the gas and the star formation rate (SFR) surface density ($\Sigma_{\rm gas}$-$\Sigma_{\rm SFR}$) is essential to understand star formation processes in galaxies. So far, it has been measured up to z~2.5 in main-sequence galaxies. In this letter, we aim to put constraints at z~4.5 using a sample of four massive main-sequence galaxies observed by ALMA at high resolution. We obtained ~0.3"-resolution [CII] and continuum maps of our objects, which we then converted into gas and obscured SFR surface density maps. In addition, we produced unobscured SFR surface density maps by convolving Hubble ancillary data in the rest-frame UV. We then derived the average $\Sigma_{\rm SFR}$ in various $\Sigma_{\rm gas}$ bins, and estimated the uncertainties using a Monte Carlo sampling. Our galaxy sample follows the KS relation measured in main-sequence galaxies at lower redshift and is slightly lower than predictions from simulations. Our data points probe the high end both in terms of $\Sigma_{\rm gas}$ and $\Sigma_{\rm gas}$, and gas depletion timescales (285-843 Myr) remain similar to z~2 objects. However, three of our objects are clearly morphologically disturbed, and we could have expected shorter gas depletion timescales (~100 Myr) similar to merger-driven starbursts at lower redshifts. Context. The performance of interferometers has largely been increased over the last ten years. But the number of observable objects is still limited due to the low sensitivity and imaging capability of the current facilities. Studies have been done to propose a new generation of interferometers. Aims. The Carlina concept studied at the Haute-Provence Observatory consists in an optical interferometer configured as a diluted version of the Arecibo radio telescope: above the diluted primary mirror made of fixed co-spherical segments, a helium balloon or cables suspended between two mountains and/or pylons, carries a gondola containing the focal optics. This concept does not require delay lines. Methods. Since 2003, we have been building a technical demonstrator of this diluted telescope. The main goals of this project were to find the opto-mechanical solutions to stabilize the optics attached under cables at several tens of meters above the ground, and to characterize this diluted telescope under real conditions. In 2012, we have obtained metrology fringes, and co-spherized the primary mirrors within one micron accuracy. In 2013, we have tested the whole optical train: servo loop, metrology, and the focal gondola. Results. We obtained stellar fringes on Deneb in September 2013. In this paper, we present the characteristics of these observations: quality of the guiding, S /N reached, and possible improvements for a future system. Conclusions. It is an important step that demonstrates the feasibility of building a diluted telescope using cables strained between cliffs or pylons. Carlina, like the MMT or LBT, could be one of the first members of a new class of telescopes named Large Diluted Telescopes. Studies are under way to propose a new generation of post-VLTI interferometers. The Carlina concept studied at the Haute- Provence Observatory is one of the proposed solutions. It consists in an optical interferometer configured like a diluted version of the Arecibo radio telescope: above the diluted primary mirror made of fixed cospherical segments, a helium balloon (or cables suspended between two mountains), carries a gondola containing the focal optics. Since 2003, we have been building a technical demonstrator of this diluted telescope. First fringes were obtained in May 2004 with two closely-spaced primary segments and a CCD on the focal gondola. We have been testing the whole optical train with three primary mirrors. The main aim of this article is to describe the metrology that we have conceived, and tested under the helium balloon to align the primary mirrors separate by 5-10 m on the ground with an accuracy of a few microns. The servo loop stabilizes the mirror of metrology under the helium balloon with an accuracy better than 5 mm while it moves horizontally by 30 cm in open loop by 10-20 km/h of wind. We have obtained the white fringes of metrology; i.e., the three mirrors are aligned (cospherized) with an accuracy of {\approx} 1 micron. We show data proving the stability of fringes over 15 minutes, therefore providing evidence that the mechanical parts are stabilized within a few microns. This is an important step that demonstrates the feasibility of building a diluted telescope using cables strained between cliffs or under a balloon. A novel, unobtrusive and wearable, multiparameter ambulatory physiologic monitoring system for space and terrestrial applications, termed LifeGuard, is presented. The core element is a wearable monitor, the crew physiologic observation device (CPOD), that provides the capability to continuously record two standard electrocardiogram leads, respiration rate via impedance plethysmography, heart rate, hemoglobin oxygen saturation, ambient or body temperature, three axes of acceleration, and blood pressure. These parameters can be digitally recorded with high fidelity over a 9-h period with precise time stamps and user-defined event markers. Data can be continuously streamed to a base station using a built-in Bluetooth RF link or stored in 32 MB of on-board flash memory and downloaded to a personal computer using a serial port. The device is powered by two AAA batteries. The design, laboratory, and field testing of the wearable monitors are described.
