The state-of-the-art proposes Life Care Annuities, that have been recently designed as variable annuity contracts with Long-Term Care payouts and Guaranteed Lifelong Withdrawal Benefits. In this paper, we propose more general features for these insurance products and refine their pricing methods. We name our proposed product ``GLWB-LTC''. In particular, as to the product features, we allow dynamic withdrawal strategies, including the surrender option. Furthermore, we consider stochastic interest rates, described by a Cox-Ingersoll-Ross process. As to the numerical methods, we solve the stochastic control problem involved by the selection of the optimal withdrawal strategy through a robust tree method, which outperforms the Monte Carlo approach. We name this method ``Tree-LTC'', and we use it to estimate the fair price of the product, as some relevant parameters vary, such as, for instance, the entry age of the policyholder. Furthermore, our numerical results show how the optimal withdrawal strategy varies over time with the health status of the policyholder. Our findings stress the important advantage of flexible withdrawal strategies in relation to insurance policies offering protection from health risks. Indeed, the policyholder is given more choice about how much to save for protection from the possible disability states at future times.

The newest generation of radio telescopes are able to survey large areas with high sensitivity and cadence, producing data volumes that require new methods to better understand the transient sky. Here we describe the results from the first citizen science project dedicated to commensal radio transients, using data from the MeerKAT telescope with weekly cadence. Bursts from Space: MeerKAT was launched late in 2021 and received ~89000 classifications from over 1000 volunteers in 3 months. Our volunteers discovered 142 new variable sources which, along with the known transients in our fields, allowed us to estimate that at least 2.1 per cent of radio sources are varying at 1.28 GHz at the sampled cadence and sensitivity, in line with previous work. We provide the full catalogue of these sources, the largest of candidate radio variables to date. Transient sources found with archival counterparts include a pulsar (B1845-01) and an OH maser star (OH 30.1-0.7), in addition to the recovery of known stellar flares and X-ray binary jets in our observations. Data from the MeerLICHT optical telescope, along with estimates of long time-scale variability induced by scintillation, imply that the majority of the new variables are active galactic nuclei. This tells us that citizen scientists can discover phenomena varying on time-scales from weeks to several years. Effective integration of terrestrial and non-terrestrial segments is one of the key research avenues in the design of current and future wireless communication networks. To this aim, modern communication-satellite constellations intend to attain sufficiently high throughput in terms of bit rate per unit area on the ground by rather aggressive patterns of spatial frequency reuse. This goal calls for on-board narrow-beam antennas, whose size turns out to be in many cases incompatible with the size/mass and accommodation constraints of the hosting satellite. This paper investigates the attainable performance of large distributed arrays of antennas implemented as the ensemble of a few to many simpler sub-antennas of smaller sizes, carried by one (small) satellite each. The sub-antennas can in their turn be implemented like (regular) 2D arrays of simple radiating elements, realizing an overall (distributed) antenna architecture that we call "Formation of Arrays" (FoA). The satellites that implement this radiating architecture need to be relatively close to each other and constitute a formation of flying objects, to be coordinated and controlled as a whole. In this paper, we develop a theoretical analysis of an FoA antenna, and we show how to take advantage of this new technology to improve network throughput in a multi-beam S-band mobile communication network with low-earth or geostationary orbiting satellites directly providing 5G-like communication services to hand-held user terminals., Comment: to appear on IEEE Trans. The aim of the present work is analysing and understanding the dynamics of the prices of companies, depending on whether they are included or excluded from the STOXX Europe 600 Index. For this reason, data regarding the companies of the Index in question was collected and analysed also through the use of logit models and neural networks in order to find the independent variables that affect the changes in prices and thus determine the dynamics over time.

ESA's INTErnational Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory (INTEGRAL) was launched on 17 Oct 2002 at 06:41 CEST. Since then, it has been providing long, uninterrupted observations (up to about 47 hr, or 170 ksec, per satellite orbit of 2.7 days) with a large field-of-view (fully coded: 100 deg^2), msec time resolution, keV energy resolution, polarization measurements, as well as additional coverage in the optical. This is realized by two main instruments in the 15 keV to 10 MeV range, the spectrometer SPI (spectral resolution 3 keV at 1.8 MeV) and the imager IBIS (angular resolution 12 arcmin FWHM), complemented by X-ray (JEM-X; 3-35 keV) and optical (OMC; Johnson V-band) monitors. All instruments are co-aligned to simultaneously observe the target region. A particle radiation monitor (IREM) measures charged particle fluxes near the spacecraft. The Anti-coincidence subsystems of the main instruments are also efficient all-sky gamma-ray detectors, which provide omni-directional monitoring above ~75 keV. INTEGRAL can also rapidly (within a couple of hours) re-point and conduct Target of Opportunity observations. INTEGRAL has build an impressive legacy: e.g. discovery of >600 new high-energy sources; first-ever direct detection of 56Ni and 56Co radio-active decay lines from a Type Ia supernova; new insights on positron annihilation in the Galactic bulge and disk; pioneering gamma-ray polarization studies. INTEGRAL is also a successful in multi-messenger astronomy: INTEGRAL found the first prompt electromagnetic radiation in coincidence with a binary neutron star merger. More than 1750 papers based on INTEGRAL data have been published in refereed journals. SrIrO3, the three-dimensional member of the Ruddlesden-Popper iridates, is a paramagnetic semimetal characterised by a the delicate interplay between spin-orbit coupling and Coulomb repulsion. In this work, we study the anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR) of SrIrO3 thin films, which is closely linked to spin-orbit coupling and probes correlations between electronic transport, magnetic order and orbital states. We show that the low-temperature negative magnetoresistance is anisotropic with respect to the magnetic field orientation, and its angular dependence reveals the appearance of a fourfold symmetric component above a critical magnetic field. We show that this AMR component is of magnetocrystalline origin, and attribute the observed transition to a field-induced magnetic state in SrIrO3., Comment: 4 pges, 4 figures, and supplemental material

We investigate theoretically and experimentally the singlet-triplet Kondo effect induced by a magnetic field in a molecular junction. Temperature dependent conductance, $G(T)$, is calculated by the numerical renormalization group, showing a strong imprint of the relevant low energy scales, such as the Kondo temperature, exchange and singlet-triplet splitting. We demonstrate the stability of the singlet-triplet Kondo effect against weak spin anisotropy, modeled by an anisotropic exchange. Moderate spin anisotropy manifests itself by lowering the Kondo plateaus, causing the $G(T)$ to deviate from a standard temperature dependence, expected for a spin-half Kondo effect. We propose this scenario as an explanation for anomalous $G(T)$, measured in an organic diradical molecule coupled to gold contacts. We propose an algorithm to calculate the exact solution for utility optimization problems on finite state spaces under a class of non-differentiable preferences. We prove that optimal strategies must lie on a discrete grid in the plane, and this allows us to reduce the dimension of the problem and define a very efficient method to obtain those strategies. We also show how fast approximations for the value function can be obtained with an a priori specified error bound and we use these to replicate results for investment problems with a known closed-form solution. These results show the efficiency of our approach, which can then be used to obtain numerical solutions for problems for which no explicit formulas are known.

We report the spectroscopic and photometric monitoring of a sample of 530 candidate AGB stars in a 5 degrees field, selected from the IPHAS catalog: historic light curves were derived from Asiago IR plates taken in the years 1965 -1984. We found 10 Miras, 5 stars with long term trends, 3 semiregular and 3 irregular. Spectral types from CCD slit spectra gave 8 M-type, 7 C-type and 6 S-type stars. In the color-color plots made from IPHAS and 2MASS catalogs, the S-type and M-type stars occupy the same regions, while C-type stars are well separated. All C-type stars with IR excess showed long term trends in their light curve. Distances of the Mira stars, estimated from their periods and K magnitudes, gave a median value of 4.9 kpc with a large spread. Embedding a magnetic electroactive molecule in a three-terminal junction allows for the fast and local electric field control of magnetic properties desirable in spintronic devices and quantum gates. Here, we provide an example of this control through the reversible and stable charging of a single all-organic neutral diradical molecule. By means of inelastic electron tunnel spectroscopy (IETS) we show that the added electron occupies a molecular orbital distinct from those containing the two radical electrons, forming a spin system with three antiferromagnetically-coupled spins. Changing the redox state of the molecule therefore switches on and off a parallel exchange path between the two radical spins through the added electron. This electrically-controlled gating of the intramolecular magnetic interactions constitutes an essential ingredient of a single-molecule $\sqrt{\text{SWAP}}$ quantum gate.

In this paper, we review the key figures of merit to assess the performance of advanced random access (RA) schemes exploiting physical layer coding, repetitions and collision resolution techniques. We then investigate RA modeling aspects and their impact on the figures of merit for the exemplary advanced RA schemes: Contention Resolution Diversity Slotted ALOHA (CRDSA), Irregular Repetition Slotted ALOHA (IRSA), Coded Slotted ALOHA (CSA) and Enhanced Spread-Spectrum ALOHA (E-SSA). We show that typical simplifications of the reception model when used to optimize RA schemes lead to inaccurate findings, both in terms of parameter optimization and figures of merit, such as the packet loss ratio (PLR) and throughput. We also derive a generic RA energy efficiency model able to compare the schemes in terms of the energy required to transmit a packet. The combination of achievable RA throughput at the target PLR and energy efficiency, for the same average user power investment per frame and occupied bandwidth, shows that E-SSA, which is an unslotted scheme, provides the best overall performance, while, in terms of the slotted schemes, CRDSA outperforms the more elaborated IRSA and CSA. This surprising results is due to the fact that the IRSA and CSA optimization has so far been performed using RA channel models that are not accurately reflecting the physical layer receiver behavior. When the underlying asset displays oscillations, spikes or heavy-tailed distributions, the lognormal diffusion process (for which Black and Scholes developed their momentous option pricing formula) is inadequate: in order to overcome these real world difficulties many models have been developed. Merton proposed a jump-diffusion model, where the dynamics of the price of the underlying are subject to variations due to a Brownian process and also to possible jumps, driven by a compound Poisson process. Merton's model admits a series solution for the European option price, and there have been a lot of attempts to obtain a discretisation of the Merton model with tree methods in order to price American or more complex options, e. g. Amin, the $O(n^3)$ procedure by Hilliard and Schwartz and the $O(n^{2.5})$ procedure by Dai et al. Here, starting from the implementation of the seven-nodes procedure by Hilliard and Schwartz, we prove theoretically that it is possible to reduce the complexity to $O(n \ln n)$ in the European case and $O(n^2 \ln n)$ in the American put case. These theoretical results can be obtained through suitable truncation of the lattice structure and the proofs provide closed formulas for the truncation limitations.

We have studied several color-color infrared diagrams of the 276 late type stars of the BIS catalog. For 95 of these stars we derived spectral classification from our slit spectroscopy. From the 2MASS color diagram we derive that none of the sample stars is a dwarf. The WISE 3.4-12 vs 12-22 plot is the best to discriminate the variability type (Mira, irregular and not-variable), as well as Carbon stars: IRAS colors are less useful due to the poor quality of the data for most of the BIS stars. Mixed plots involving 2MASS, AKARI and WISE were also explored: the 2MASS-AKARI J-[S09] vs [S09]-[L18] plot is efficient to discriminate Carbon and Mira stars. From the color plots and our spectroscopy we can statistically predict that in whole BIS catalog no other dusty Carbon star is present, while a few Miras and CH or R Carbon stars could be discovered. Through the analysis and interpretation of newly obtained and of literature data we have clarified the nature of poorly investigated IRAS point sources classified as late type stars, belonging to the Byurakan IRAS ~Stars catalog. From medium resolution spectroscopyof 95 stars we have strongly revised 47 spectral types and newly classified 31 sources. Nine stars are of G or K types, four are N carbon stars in the Asymptotic Giant Branch, the others being M type stars. From literature and new photometric observations we have studied their variability behaviour. For the regular variables we determined distances, absolute magnitudes and mass loss rates. For the other stars we estimated the distances, ranging between 1.3 and 10~kpc with a median of 2.8~kpc from the galactic plane, indicating that BIS stars mostly belong to the halo population., Comment: 28 pages, 3 figures, accepted by Revista Mexicana de Astronomia y Astrofisica

The erasure of a bit of information encoded in a physical system is an irreversible operation bound to dissipate an amount of energy $Q = k_\text{B} T\ln 2$. As a result, work $W \geq Q$ has to be applied to the physical system to restore the erased information content. This limit, called Landauer limit, sets a minimal energy dissipation inherent to any classical computation. In the pursuit of the fastest and most efficient means of computation, the ultimate challenge is to produce a memory device executing an operation as close to this limit in the shortest time possible. Here, we use a crystal of molecular nanomagnets as a spin-memory device and measure the work needed to carry out a storage operation. Exploiting a form of quantum annealing, we border the Landauer limit while preserving fast operation. Owing to the tunable and fast dynamics of this process, the performance of our device in terms of energy-time cost is orders of magnitude better than existing memory devices to date. This result suggests a way to enhance classical computations by using quantum processes.

We report on the discovery and transport study of the superconducting ground state present at the (111)LaAlO$_3$/SrTiO$_3$ interface. The superconducting transition is consistent with a Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition and its 2D nature is further corroborated by the anisotropy of the critical magnetic field, as calculated by Tinkham. The estimated superconducting layer thickness and coherence length are 10 nm and 60 nm, respectively. The results of this work provide a new platform to clarify the microscopic details of superconductivity at LaAlO$_3$/SrTiO$_3$ interfaces, in particular in what concerns the link with orbital symmetry., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures

Molecular systems can exhibit a complex, chemically tailorable inner structure which allows for targeting of specific mechanical, electronic and optical properties. At the single-molecule level, two major complementary ways to explore these properties are molecular quantum-dot structures and scanning probes. This article outlines comprehensive principles of electron-transport spectroscopy relevant to both these approaches and presents a new, high-resolution experiment on a high-spin single-molecule junction exemplifying these principles. Such spectroscopy plays a key role in further advancing our understanding of molecular and atomic systems, in particular the relaxation of their spin. In this joint experimental and theoretical analysis, particular focus is put on the crossover between resonant regime [single-electron tunneling (SET)] and the off-resonant regime [inelastic electron (co)tunneling (IETS)]. We show that the interplay of these two processes leads to unexpected mirages of resonances not captured by either of the two pictures alone. Although this turns out to be important in a large fraction of the possible regimes of level positions and bias voltages, it has been given little attention in molecular transport studies. Combined with nonequilibrium IETS -- four-electron pump-probe excitations -- these mirages provide crucial information on the relaxation of spin excitations. Our encompassing physical picture is supported by a master-equation approach that goes beyond weak coupling. Superconductors containing magnetic impurities exhibit intriguing phenomena derived from the competition between Cooper pairing and Kondo screening. At the heart of this competition are the Yu-Shiba-Rusinov (Shiba) states which arise from the pair breaking effects a magnetic impurity has on a superconducting host. Hybrid superconductor-molecular junctions offer unique access to these states but the added complexity in fabricating such devices has kept their exploration to a minimum. Here, we report on the successful integration of a model spin 1/2 impurity, in the form of a neutral and stable all organic radical molecule, in proximity-induced superconducting break-junctions. Our measurements reveal excitations which are characteristic of a spin-induced Shiba state due to the radical's unpaired spin strongly coupled to a superconductor. By virtue of a variable molecule-electrode coupling, we access both the singlet and doublet ground states of the hybrid system which give rise to the doublet and singlet Shiba excited states, respectively. Our results show that Shiba states are a robust feature of the interaction between a paramagnetic impurity and a proximity-induced superconductor where the excited state is mediated by correlated electron-hole (Andreev) pairs instead of Cooper pairs., Comment: 29 pages including supporting information

We review different electron transport methods to probe the magnetic properties, such as the magnetic anisotropy, of an individual Fe4 SMM. The different approaches comprise first and higher order transport through the molecule. Gate spectroscopy, focusing on the charge degeneracy-point, is presented as a robust technique to quantify the longitudinal magnetic anisotropy of the SMM in different redox states. We provide statistics showing the robustness and reproducibility of the different methods. In addition, conductance measurements typically show high-energy excited states well beyond the ground spin multiplet of SMM. Some of these excitations have their origin in excited spin multiplets, others in vibrational modes of the molecule. The interplay between vibrations, charge and spin may yield a new approach for spin control.

The magnetic properties of a nanoscale system are inextricably linked to its local environment. In ad-atoms on surfaces and inorganic layered structures the exchange interactions result from the relative lattice positions, layer thicknesses and other environmental parameters. Here, we report on a sample-dependent sign inversion of the magnetic exchange coupling between the three unpaired spins of an organic triradical molecule embedded in a three-terminal device. This ferro-to-antiferromagnetic transition is due to structural distortions and results in a high-to-low spin ground state change in a molecule traditionally considered to be a robust high-spin quartet. Moreover, the flexibility of the molecule yields an in-situ electric tunability of the exchange coupling via the gate electrode. These findings open a route to the controlled reversal of the magnetic states in organic molecule-based nanodevices by mechanical means, electrical gating or chemical tailoring.

We present moderate resolution CCD spectra and R photometry for seven KP2001 stars. We revised the spectral classification of the stars in the range 3900 - 8500 A. On the bases of light curves of the NSVS (Northern Sky Variability Survey) database we classify KP2001-18 as a semi regular and KP2001-176 as Mira type variables. For all observed objects NSVS phase - dependence light curve analysis and variability type classification was performed with the VStar Software. We demonstrate that electronic transport through single molecules or molecular ensembles, commonly based on gold (Au) electrodes, can be extended to superconducting electrodes by combining gold with molybdenum-rhenium (MoRe). This combination induces proximity-effect superconductivity in the gold to temperatures of at least 4.6 Kelvin and magnetic fields of 6 Tesla, improving on previously reported aluminum based superconducting nanojunctions. In this paper we present the elementary assumptions of our research on the role of the magnetic field in modelling the quiescence-outbursts cycle in Cataclysmic Variables (CVs). The behaviour of the magnetic field is crucial not only to integrate the disk instability model (Osaki 1974), but also to determine the cause and effect nexus among parameters affecting the behavior of complex systems. On the ground of our interpretation of the results emerging from the literature, we suggest that in models describing DNe outbursts, such as the disk instability model, the secondary instability model (Bath 1973) and the thermonuclear runaway model (Mitrofanov 1978), the role of the magnetic field is at least twofold. On the one hand, it activates a specific dynamic pathway for the accreting matter by channelling it. On the other hand, it could be indirectly responsible for switching a particular outburst modality. In order to represent these two roles of the magnetic field, we need to integrate the disk instability model by looking at the global behaviour of the system under analysis. Stochastic resonance in dynamo models, we believe, is a suitable candidate for accomplishing this task. By means of electronic transport, we study the transverse magnetic anisotropy of an individual Fe$_4$ single-molecule magnet (SMM) embedded in a three-terminal junction. In particular, we determine in situ the transverse anisotropy of the molecule from the pronounced intensity modulations of the linear conductance, which are observed as a function of applied magnetic field. The proposed technique works at temperatures exceeding the energy scale of the tunnel splittings of the SMM. We report on the characterization of a number of AGB candidate stars identified with objective-prism plates of the Byurakan Observatory. Digitized photographic sky survey plates and recent CCD photometry have been used to improve the selection and distinguish variable and non-variable stars. Some comparisons among published catalog magnitudes are also made. Slit spectroscopy from the Asiago and Loiano Observatories allowed a firm spectral classification, separating C-Type, N-Type and normal M giants. Carbon rich stars of Population II, such as CH giants, can provide direct information on the role of low to intermediate mass stars of the Halo in early Galactic evolution. Moreover, accurate knowledge of the CH stellar population is a critical requirement for building up scenarios for early Galactic chemical evolution. The first list of the faint high latitude C stars (FHLCs), found in the Digitized First Byurakan Survey {http://byurakan.phys.uniroma1.it and http://www.aras.am/Dfbs/dfbs.html} (DFBS) is given in a paper recently submitted for publication in Astronomy ad Astrophysics. In the present work, we report the recent discovery of two additional CH type stars (not previously catalogued), namely DFBS J075331.98+190344.3 and DFBS J111422.94+091442.7, detected on the DFBS plates with help of the image analysis softwares (FITSView and SAOImage DS9). Medium resolution spectra confirm the C rich nature for both of them. We have made a preliminary analysis of the results about the eVects on tumoral cell line (lymphoid T cell line Jurkat) induced by UVB radiation (dose of 310 mJ/cm^2) with and without a vegetable mixture. In the present study, we have used two techniques: Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and flow cytometry. FTIR spectroscopy has the potential to provide the identiWcation of the vibrational modes of some of the major compounds (lipid, proteins and nucleic acids) without being invasive in the biomaterials. The second technique has allowed us to perform measurements of cytotoxicity and to assess the percentage of apoptosis. We already studied the induction of apoptotic process in the same cell line by UVB radiation; in particular, we looked for correspondences and correlations between FTIR spetroscopy and flow cytometry data finding three highly probable spectroscopic markers of apoptosis (Pozzi et al. in Radiat Res 168:698-705, 2007). In the present work, the results have shown significant changes in the absorbance and spectral pattern in the wavenumber protein and nucleic acids regions after the treatments.

We studied the induction of apoptosis in Jurkat cells by UVB radiation (wavelength 290-320 nm) at a dose of 310 mJ/cm^2. We combined Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy with flow cytometry to determine whether the combination of both techniques could provide new and improved information about cell modifications. To do this, we looked for correspondences and correlations between spectroscopy and flow cytometry data and found three highly probable spectroscopic markers of apoptosis. The behavior of the wave number shift of both the Amide I beta-sheet component and the area of the 1083 cm^-1 band reproduced, with a high correlation, the behavior of the early apoptotic cell population, while the behavior of the Amide I area showed a high correlation with the early plus late apoptotic cell population.

We present the historic light curve of 1WGA J0447.9-0322, spanning the time interval from 1962 to 1991, built using the Asiago archive plates. The source shows small fluctuations of about 0.3 mag around B=16 until 1986 and a fast dimming of its average level by about 0.5 mag after that date, again with small short term variations. The variability pattern is within the values shown by other QSOs with long term monitoring, notwithstanding its high X-ray/optical ratio. The European Space Agency’s INTErnational Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory (ESA/INTEGRAL) was launched aboard a Proton-DM2 rocket on 17 October 2002 at 06:41 CEST, from Baikonur in Kazakhstan. Since then, INTEGRAL has been providing long, uninterrupted observations (up to about 47 h, or 170 ksec, per satellite orbit of 2.7 days) with a large field-of-view (FOV, fully coded: 100 deg), millisecond time resolution, keV energy resolution, polarization measurements, as well as additional wavelength coverage at optical wavelengths. This is realized by two main instruments in the 15 keV to 10 MeV energy range, the spectrometer SPI (spectral resolution 3 keV at 1.8 MeV) and the imager IBIS (angular resolution: 12 arcmin FWHM), complemented by X-ray (JEM-X; 3–35 keV) and optical (OMC; Johnson V-band) monitor instruments. All instruments are co-aligned to simultaneously observe the target region. A particle radiation monitor (IREM) measures charged particle fluxes near the spacecraft. The Anti-coincidence subsystems of the main instruments, built to reduce the background, are also very efficient all-sky γ-ray detectors, which provide virtually omni-directional monitoring above ~75 keV. Besides the long, scheduled observations, INTEGRAL can rapidly (within a couple of hours) re-point and conduct Target of Opportunity (ToO) observations on a large variety of sources. INTEGRAL observations and their scientific results have been building an impressive legacy: The discovery of currently more than 600 new high-energy sources; the first-ever direct detection of (56)Ni and (56)Co radio-active decay lines from a Type Ia supernova; spectroscopy of isotopes from galactic nucleo-synthesis sources; new insights on enigmatic positron annihilation in the Galactic bulge and disk; and pioneering gamma-ray polarization studies. INTEGRAL is also a successful actor in the new multi-messenger astronomy introduced by non-electromagnetic signals from gravitational waves and from neutrinos: INTEGRAL found the first prompt electromagnetic radiation in coincidence with a binary neutron star merger. Up to now more than 1750 scientific papers based on INTEGRAL data have been published in refereed journals. In this paper, we will give a comprehensive update of the satellite status after more than 18 years of operations in a harsh space environment, and an account of the successful Ground Segment.

The effects of gravity on the actuators, sensors and structural plant of a controlled flexible structure are investigated. These influences include gravity stiffening, gravity induced deformations, gravity influence on inertial sensors and actuators, and the interaction with the suspension system. For each of the four influences, a simplified model is derived, from which the appropriate non-dimensional parameter can be identified, and the magnitude of the influence estimated. The construction of a detailed numerical model, which includes the four gravity influences, is outlined. This modeling procedure is then applied to a simplified model of the Middeck Active Control Eperiment (MACE). The influence on the poles and input-output transfer function is examined for several variations in the plant. The modeling procedure is also applied to the MACE experimental hardware. Experimental and model-based transfer functions are compared to demonstrate the significant improvement by incorporating gravity effects.
