The chirality induced spin selectivity (CISS) effect is a fascinating phenomena correlating molecular structure with electron spin-polarisation in excited state measurements. Experimental procedures to quantify the spin-filtering magnitude relies generally on averaging data sets, especially those from magnetic field dependent conductive-AFM. We investigate the underlying observed disorder in the IV spectra and the origin of spikes superimposed. We demonstrate and explain that a dynamic, voltage sweep rate dependent, phenomena can give rise to complex IV curves for chiral crystals of coronene bisimide. The redox group, able to capture localized charge states, acts as an impurity state interfering with a continuum, giving rise to Fano resonances. We introduce a novel mechanism for the dynamic transport which might also provide insight into the role of spin-polarization. Crucially, interference between charge localisation and delocalisation during transport may be important properties into understanding the CISS phenomena.

We investigate the photocatalytic performance of nanocomposites prepared in a one-step process by liquid-phase exfoliation of graphite in the presence of TiO$_2$ nanoparticles (NPs) at atmospheric pressure and in water, without heating or adding any surfactant, and starting from low-cost commercial reagents. The nanocomposites show enhanced photocatalytic activity, degrading up to 40$\%$ more pollutants with respect to the starting TiO$_2$-NPs. In order to understand the photo-physical mechanisms underlying this enhancement, we investigate the photo-generation of reactive species (trapped holes and electrons) by ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy. We observe an electron transfer process from TiO$_2$ to the graphite flakes within the first picoseconds of the relaxation dynamics, which causes the decrease of the charge recombination rate, and increases the efficiency of the reactive species photo-production., Comment: 13 pages, 12 figures, 1 table

This letter presents the design, manufacturing and operational performance of a graphene-flakes based screenprinted wideband elliptical dipole antenna operating from 2 GHz up to 5 GHz for low cost wireless communications applications. To investigate radio frequency (RF) conductivity of the printed graphene, a coplanar waveguide (CPW) test structure was designed, fabricated and tested in the frequency range from 1 GHz to 20 GHz. Antenna and CPW were screen-printed on Kapton substrates using a graphene paste formulated with a graphene to binder ratio of 1:2. A combination of thermal treatment and subsequent compression rolling is utilized to further decrease the sheet resistance for printed graphene structures, ultimately reaching 4 Ohm/sq. at 10 {\mu}m thicknesses. For the graphene-flakes printed antenna an antenna efficiency of 60% is obtained. The measured maximum antenna gain is 2.3 dBi at 4.8 GHz. Thus the graphene-flakes printed antenna adds a total loss of only 3.1 dB to an RF link when compared to the same structure screen-printed for reference with a commercial silver ink. This shows that the electrical performance of screen-printed graphene flakes, which also does not degrade after repeated bending, is suitable for realizing low-cost wearable RF wireless communication devices., Comment: Accepted, in press (online preview available)

Nanoparticles are ubiquitous in nature. Their large surface areas and consequent chemical reactivity typically result in their aggregation into clusters. Their chemical and physical properties depend on cluster shapes, which are commonly complex and unknown. This is the first application of electron tomography with a transmission electron microscope to quantitatively determine the three-dimensional (3D) shapes, volumes, and surface areas of nanoparticle clusters. We use soot (black carbon, BC) nanoparticles as an example because it is a major contributor to environmental degradation and global climate change. To the extent that our samples are representative, we find that quantitative measurements of soot surface areas and volumes derived from electron tomograms differ from geometrically derived values by, respectively, almost one and two orders of magnitude. Global sensitivity studies suggest that the global burden and direct radiative forcing of fractal BC are only about 60% of the value if it is assumed that BC has a spherical shape.
