The article discusses some cases of aircraft accidents caused by a runaway nose-down elevator trim problem in the U.S. It is noted that the Cessna 550 that crashed into Lake Michigan on June 4, 2007 would seem to have had the same problem. In a similar incident, the crew of an Embraer EMB110-P2 aircraft experienced excessive nose-down pitch control forces. It found that the elevator electric trim servo mechanical clutch would not release at the specified setting due to a lack of maintenance.
