We provide optimal pinching results on closed Einstein manifolds with positive Yamabe invariant in any dimension, extending the optimal bound for the scalar curvature due to Gursky and LeBrun in dimension four. We also improve the known bounds of the Yamabe invariant \emph{via} the $L^{\frac{n}{2}}$-norm of the Weyl tensor for low-dimensional Einstein manifolds. Finally, we discuss some advances on an algebraic inequality involving the Weyl tensor for dimensions $5$ and $6$.

In this paper we classify positive solutions to the critical semilinear elliptic equation in $\mathbb{H}^n$. We prove that they are the Jerison-Lee's bubbles, provided $n=1$ or $n\geq 2$ and a suitable control at infinity holds. The proofs are based on a classical Jerison-Lee's differential identity and on pointwise/integral estimates recently obtained for critical semilinear and quasilinear elliptic equations in $\mathbb{R}^n$. In particular, the result in $\mathbb{H}^1$ can be seen as the analogue of the celebrated Caffarelli-Gidas-Spruck classification theorem.

We prove that any set-theoretic solution of the Yang-Baxter equation associated to a dual weak brace is a strong semilattice of non-degenerate bijective solutions. This fact makes use of the description of any dual weak brace $S$ we provide in terms of strong semilattice $Y$ of skew braces $B_\alpha$, with $\alpha \in Y$. Additionally, we describe the ideals of $S$ and study its nilpotency by correlating it to that of each skew brace $B_\alpha$.

In this paper we prove new rigidity results for complete, possibly non-compact, critical metrics of the quadratic curvature functionals $\mathfrak{S}^2 = \int R_g^{2} dV_g$. We show that critical metrics $(M^n, g)$ with finite energy are always scalar flat, i.e. a global minimum, provided $n\geq 10$ or $7\leq n \leq 9$ and $M^n$ has at least two ends.

The aim of this paper is to prove two results concerning the rigidity of complete, immersed, orientable, stable minimal hypersurfaces: we show that they are hyperplane in $\mathbb{R}^4$, while they do not exist in positively curved closed Riemannian $(n+1)$-manifold when $n\leq 5$; in particular, there are no stable minimal hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{S}^{n+1}$ when $n\leq 5$. The first result was recently proved also by Chodosh and Li, and the second is a consequence of a more general result concerning minimal surfaces with finite index. In this paper we provide new rigidity results for four-dimensional Riemannian manifolds and their twistor spaces.In particular, using the moving frame method, we prove that $\mathbb{CP}^3$ is the only twistor space whose Bochner tensor is parallel; moreover, we classify Hermitian Ricci-parallel and locally symmetric twistor spaces and we show the nonexistence of conformally flat twistor spaces. We also generalize a result due to Atiyah, Hitchin and Singer concerning the self-duality of a Riemannian four-manifold.

In this paper, using special metric deformations introduced by Aubin, we construct Riemannian metrics satisfying non-vanishing conditions concerning the Weyl tensor, on every compact manifold. In particular, in dimension four, we show that there are no topological obstructions for the existence of metrics with non-vanishing Bach tensor.

In this paper, we introduce the theory of Rota-Baxter operators on Clifford semigroups, useful tools for obtaining dual weak braces, i.e., triples $\left(S,+,\circ\right)$ where $\left(S,+\right)$ and $\left(S,\circ\right)$ are Clifford semigroups such that $a\circ\left(b+c\right) = a\circ b - a +a\circ c$ and $a\circ a^- = -a+a$, for all $a,b,c\in S$. To each algebraic structure is associated a set-theoretic solution of the Yang-Baxter equation that has a behaviour near to the bijectivity and non-degeneracy. In this paper we prove classification results for solutions to subcritical and critical semilinear elliptic equations with a nonnegative potential on noncompact manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. We show in the subcritical case that all nonnegative solutions vanish identically. Moreover, under some natural assumptions, in the critical case we prove a strong rigidity result, namely we classify all nontrivial solutions showing that they exist only if the potential is constant and the manifold is isometric to the Euclidean space.

We derive an adaptation of Li & Yau estimates for positive solutions of semilinear heat equations on Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative Ricci tensor. We then apply these estimates to obtain a Harnack inequality and to discuss monotonicity, convexity, decay estimates and triviality of ancient and eternal solutions.

In this paper we prove new rigidity results for complete, possibly non-compact, critical metrics of the quadratic curvature functionals $\mathfrak{F}^{2}_t = \int |\operatorname{Ric}_g|^{2} dV_g + t \int R^{2}_g dV_g$, $t\in\mathbb{R}$, and $\mathfrak{S}^2 = \int R_g^{2} dV_g$. We show that (i) flat surfaces are the only critical points of $\mathfrak{S}^2$, (ii) flat three-dimensional manifolds are the only critical points of $\mathfrak{F}^{2}_t$ for every $t>-\frac{1}{3}$, (iii) three-dimensional scalar flat manifolds are the only critical points of $\mathfrak{S}^2$ with finite energy and (iv) $n$-dimensional, $n>4$, scalar flat manifolds are the only critical points of $\mathfrak{S}^2$ with finite energy and scalar curvature bounded below. In case (i), our proof relies on rigidity results for conformal vector fields and an ODE argument; in case (ii) we draw upon some ideas of M. T. Anderson concerning regularity, convergence and rigidity of critical metrics; in cases (iii) and (iv) the proofs are self-contained and depend on new pointwise and integral estimates.

We derive a matrix version of Li \& Yau--type estimates for positive solutions of semilinear heat equations on Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative sectional curvatures and parallel Ricci tensor, similarly to what R.~Hamilton did in~\cite{hamilton7} for the standard heat equation. We then apply these estimates to obtain some Harnack--type inequalities, which give local bounds on the solutions in terms of the geometric quantities involved.

We investigate a new algebraic structure which always gives rise to a set-theoretic solution of the Yang-Baxter equation. Extending Aubin's construction of metrics with constant negative scalar curvature, we prove that every $n$-dimensional closed manifold admits a Riemannian metric with constant negative scalar-Weyl curvature, that is $R+t|W|, t\in\mathbb{R}$. In particular, there are no topological obstructions for metrics with $\varepsilon$-pinched Weyl curvature and negative scalar curvature.

Employing the algebraic structure of the left brace and the dynamical extensions of cycle sets, we investigate a class of indecomposable involutive set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation having specific imprimitivity blocks. Moreover, we study one-generator left braces of multipermutation level 2.

We introduce left and right series of left semi-braces. This allows to define left and right nilpotent left semi-braces. We study the structure of such semi-braces and generalize some results, known for skew left braces, to left semi-braces. We study the structure of left semi-braces $B$ such that the set of additive idempotents $E$ is an ideal of $B$. Finally we introduce the concept of a nilpotent left semi-brace and we show that the multiplicative group of such semi-braces is nilpotent.

In this paper we study the twistor space $Z$ of an oriented Riemannian four-manifold $M$ using the moving frame approach, focusing, in particular, on the Einstein, non-self-dual setting. We prove that any general first-order linear condition on the almost complex structures of $Z$ forces the underlying manifold $M$ to be self-dual, also recovering most of the known related rigidity results. Thus, we are naturally lead to consider first-order quadratic conditions, showing that the Atiyah-Hitchin-Singer almost Hermitian twistor space of an Einstein four-manifold bears a resemblance, in a suitable sense, to a nearly K\"ahler manifold.

We show a triviality result for "pointwise" monotone in time, bounded "eternal" solutions of the semilinear heat equation \begin{equation*} u_{t}=\Delta u + |u|^{p} \end{equation*} on complete Riemannian manifolds of dimension $n \geq 5$ with nonnegative Ricci tensor, when $p$ is smaller than the critical Sobolev exponent $\frac{n+2}{n-2}$.

The main aim of this paper is to provide set-theoretical solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation that are not necessarily bijective, among these new idempotent ones. In the specific, we draw on both to the classical theory of inverse semigroups and to that of the most recently studied braces, to give a new research perspective to the open problem of finding solutions. Namely, we have recourse to a new structure, the inverse semi-brace, that is a triple $(S,+, \cdot)$ with $(S,+)$ a semigroup and $(S, \cdot)$ an inverse semigroup satisfying the relation $a \left(b + c\right) = a b + a\left(a^{-1} + c\right)$, for all $a,b,c \in S$, where $a^{-1}$ is the inverse of $a$ in $(S, \cdot)$. We focus on the Penrose's Weyl Curvature Hypothesis in a general framework encompassing many specific models discussed in literature. We introduce a candidate density for the Weyl entropy in pure spacetime perfect fluid regions and show that it is monotonically increasing in time under very general assumptions. Then we consider the behavior of the Weyl entropy of compact regions, which is shown to be monotone in time as well under suitable hypotheses, and also maximal in correspondence with vacuum static metrics. The minimal entropy case is discussed too.

This paper aims to introduce a construction technique of set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation, called strong semilattice of solutions. This technique, inspired by the strong semilattice of semigroups, allows one to obtain new solutions. In particular, this method turns out to be useful to provide non-bijective solutions of finite order. It is well-known braces, skew braces and semi-braces are closely linked with solutions. Hence, we introduce a generalization of the algebraic structure of semi-braces based on this new construction technique of solutions.

A first aim of this paper is to give sufficient conditions on left non-degenerate bijective set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation so that they are non-degenerate. In particular, we extend the results on involutive solutions obtained by Rump in [36] and answer in a positive way to a question posed by Ced\'o, Jespers, and Verwimp [19, Question 4.2]. Moreover, we develop a theory of extensions for left non-degenerate set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation that allows one to construct new families of set-theoretic solutions.

The Yang-Baxter and pentagon equations are two well-known equations of Mathematical Physic. If $S$ is a set, a map $s:S\times S\to S\times S$ is said to be a set theoretical solution of the Yang-Baxter equation if $$ s_{23}\, s_{13}\, s_{12} = s_{12}\, s_{13}\, s_{23}, $$ where $s_{12}=s\times id_S$, $s_{23}=id_S\times s$, and $s_{13}=(id_S\times \tau)\,s_{12}\,(id_S\times \tau)$ and $\tau$ is the flip map, i.e., the map on $S\times S$ given by $\tau(x,y)=(y,x)$. Instead, $s$ is called a set-theoretical solution of the pentagon equation if $$ s_{23}\, s_{13}\, s_{12}=s_{12}\, s_{23}. $$ The main aim of this work is to display how solutions of the pentagon equation turn out to be a useful tool to obtain new solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation. Specifically, we present a new construction of solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation involving two specific solutions of the pentagon equation. To this end, we provide a method to obtain solutions of the pentagon equation on the matched product of two semigroups, that is a semigroup including the classical Zappa product.

We investigate the matched product of solutions associated with right and left shelves. First, we prove that the requirements to provide the matched product of solutions that come from shelves can be simplified. Then we give conditions for left non-degeneracy of the matched product. Later, we compute the structure shelf of the matched product of solutions. Finally, we prove that the structure shelf of the matched product does not depend on the choice of the actions.

We consider, in the Euclidean setting, a conformal Yamabe-type equation related to a potential generalization of the classical constant scalar curvature problem and which naturally arises in the study of Ricci solitons structures. We prove existence and nonexistence results, focusing on the radial case, under some general hypothesis on the potential.

We prove an existence result for the Poisson equation on non-compact Riemannian manifolds satisfying weighted Poincar\'e inequalities outside compact sets. Our result applies to a large class of manifolds including, for instance, all non-parabolic manifolds with minimal positive Green's function vanishing at infinity. On the source function we assume a sharp pointwise decay depending on the weight appearing in the Poincar\'e inequality and on the behavior of the Ricci curvature at infinity. We prove that under some assumptions on the mean curvature the set of umbilical points of an immersed surface in a $3$-dimensional space form has positive measure. In case of an immersed sphere our result can be seen as a generalization of the celebrated Hopf theorem.

In this paper, we introduce a new sequence $\bar{N}_m$ to find a new estimation of the cardinality $N_m$ of the minimal involutive square-free solution of level $m$. As an application, using the first values of $\bar{N}_m$, we improve the estimations of $N_m$ obtained by Gateva-Ivanova and Cameron and by Lebed and Vendramin. Following the approach of the first part, in the last section we construct several new counterexamples to the Gateva-Ivanova's Conjecture.

In this work, we focus on the set-theoretical solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation which are of finite order and not necessarily bijective. We use the matched product of solutions as a unifying tool for treating these solutions of finite order, that also include involutive and idempotent solutions. In particular, we prove that the matched product of two solutions $r_S$ and $r_T$ is of finite order if and only if $r_S$ and $r_T$ are. Furthermore, we show that with sufficient information on $r_S$ and $r_T$ we can precisely establish the order of the matched product. Finally, we prove that if $B$ is a finite semi-brace, then the associated solution $r$ satisfies $r^n=r$, for an integer $n$ closely linked with $B$.

On four-dimensional closed manifolds we introduce a class of canonical Riemannian metrics, that we call weak harmonic Weyl metrics, defined as critical points in the conformal class of a quadratic functional involving the norm of the divergence of the Weyl tensor. This class includes Einstein and, more in general, harmonic Weyl manifolds. We prove that every closed four-manifold admits a weak harmonic Weyl metric, which is the unique (up to dilations) minimizer of the functional in a suitable conformal class. In general the problem is degenerate elliptic due to possible vanishing of the Weyl tensor. In order to overcome this issue, we minimize the functional in the conformal class determined by a reference metric, constructed by Aubin, with nowhere vanishing Weyl tensor. Moreover, we show that anti-self-dual metrics with positive Yamabe invariant can be characterized by pinching conditions involving suitable quadratic Riemannian functionals.

We classify four-dimensional shrinking Ricci solitons satisfying $Sec \geq \frac{1}{24} R$, where $Sec$ and $R$ denote the sectional and the scalar curvature, respectively. They are isometric to either $\mathbb{R}^{4}$ (and quotients), $\mathbb{S}^{4}$, $\mathbb{RP}^{4}$ or $\mathbb{CP}^{2}$ with their standard metrics.

We investigate the triviality of compact Ricci solitons under general scalar conditions involving the Weyl tensor. More precisely, we show that a compact Ricci soliton is Einstein if a generic linear combination of divergences of the Weyl tensor contracted with suitable covariant derivatives of the potential function vanishes. In particular we recover and improve all known related results. This paper can be thought as a first, preliminary step in a general program which aims at showing that Ricci solitons can be classified finding a "generic" $[k, s]$-vanishing condition on the Weyl tensor, for every $k, s\in\mathbb{N}$, where $k$ is the order of the covariant derivatives of Weyl and $s$ is the type of the (covariant) tensor involved.

We show existence of solutions to the Poisson equation on Riemannian manifolds with positive essential spectrum, assuming a sharp pointwise decay on the source function. In particular we can allow the Ricci curvature to be unbounded from below. In comparison with previous works, we can deal with a more general setting both on the spectrum and on the curvature bounds.

The aim of this paper is to study new classes of Riemannian manifolds endowed with a smooth potential function, including in a general framework classical canonical structures such as Einstein, harmonic curvature and Yamabe metrics, and, above all, gradient Ricci solitons. For the most rigid cases we give a complete classification, while for the others we provide rigidity and obstruction results, characterizations and nontrivial examples. In the final part of the paper we also describe the "nongradient" version of this construction.

The very definition of an Einstein metric implies that all its geometry is encoded in the Weyl tensor. With this in mind, in this paper we derive higher-order Bochner type formulas for the Weyl tensor on a four dimensional Einstein manifold. In particular, we prove a second Bochner type formula which, formally, extends to the covariant derivative level the classical one for the Weyl tensor obtained by Derdzinski in 1983. As a consequence, we deduce some integral identities involving the Weyl tensor and its derivatives on a compact four dimensional Einstein manifold.

We classify complete gradient Ricci solitons satisfying a fourth-order vanishing condition on the Weyl tensor, improving previously known results. More precisely, we show that any $n$-dimensional ($n\geq 4$) gradient shrinking Ricci soliton with fourth order divergence-free Weyl tensor is either Einstein, or a finite quotient of $N^{n-k}\times \mathbb{R}^k$, $(k > 0)$, the product of a Einstein manifold $N^{n-k}$ with the Gaussian shrinking soliton $\mathbb{R}^k$. The technique applies also to the steady and expanding cases in all dimensions. In particular, we prove that a three dimensional gradient steady soliton with third order divergence-free Cotton tensor, i.e. with vanishing double divergence of the Bach tensor, is either flat or isometric to the Bryant soliton., Comment: Minor typos

We prove that a $n$-dimensional, $4 \leq n \leq 6$, compact gradient shrinking Ricci soliton satisfying a $L^{n/2}$-pinching condition is isometric to a quotient of the round $\mathbb{S}^{n}$. The proof relies mainly on sharp algebraic curvature estimates, the Yamabe-Sobolev inequality and an improved rigidity result for integral pinched Einstein metrics.

In this paper we present some results on a family of geometric flows introduced by Bourguignon that generalize the Ricci flow. For suitable values of the scalar parameter involved in these flows, we prove short time existence and provide curvature estimates. In this paper we prove new classification results for nonnegatively curved gradient expanding and steady Ricci solitons in dimension three and above, under suitable integral assumptions on the scalar curvature of the underlying Riemannian manifold. In particular we show that the only complete expanding solitons with nonnegative sectional curvature and integrable scalar curvature are quotients of the Gaussian soliton, while in the steady case we prove rigidity results under sharp integral scalar curvature decay. As a corollary, we obtain that the only three dimensional steady solitons with less than quadratic volume growth are quotients of $\mathbb{R}\times\Sigma^{2}$, where $\Sigma^{2}$ is Hamilton's cigar.

In this note we characterize compact hypersurfaces of dimension $n\geq 2$ with constant mean curvature $H$ immersed in space forms of constant curvature and satisfying an optimal integral pinching condition: they are either totally umbilical or, when $n\geq 3$ and $H\neq 0$, they are locally contained in a rotational hypersurface. In dimension two, the integral pinching condition reduces to a topological assumption and we recover the classical Hopf-Chern result.

We classify compact conformally flat $n$-dimensional manifolds with constant positive scalar curvature and satisfying an optimal integral pinching condition: they are covered isometrically by either $\mathbb{S}^{n}$ with the round metric, $\mathbb{S}^{1}\times \mathbb{S}^{n-1}$ with the product metric or $\mathbb{S}^{1}\times \mathbb{S}^{n-1}$ with a rotationally symmetric Derdzi\'nski metric.

In this short note we prove that, in dimension three, flat metrics are the only complete metrics with non-negative scalar curvature which are critical for the $\sigma_{2}$-curvature functional.

In this paper we introduce, in the Riemannian setting, the notion of conformal Ricci soliton, which includes as particular cases Einstein manifolds, conformal Einstein manifolds and (generic and gradient) Ricci solitons. We provide here some necessary integrability conditions for the existence of these structures that also recover, in the corresponding contexts, those already known in the literature for conformally Einstein manifolds and for gradient Ricci solitons. A crucial tool in our analysis is the construction of some appropriate and highly nontrivial $(0,3)$-tensors related to the geometric structures, that in the special case of gradient Ricci solitons become the celebrated tensor $D$ recently introduced by Cao and Chen. A significant part of our investigation, which has independent interest, is the derivation of a number of commutation rules for covariant derivatives (of functions and tensors) and of transformation laws of some geometric objects under a conformal change of the underlying metric.

In this paper we prove rigidity results on critical metrics for quadratic curvature functionals, involving the Ricci and the scalar curvature, on the space of Riemannian metrics with unit volume. It is well-known that Einstein metrics are always critical points. The purpose of this article is to show that, under some curvature conditions, a partial converse is true. In particular, for a class of quadratic curvature functionals, we prove that every critical metric with non-negative sectional curvature must be Einstein.

The aim of this paper is to prove some classification results for generic shrinking Ricci solitons. In particular, we show that every three dimensional generic shrinking Ricci soliton is given by quotients of either $\mathds{S}^3$, $\erre\times\mathds{S}^2$ or $\erre^3$, under some very weak conditions on the vector field $X$ generating the soliton structure. In doing so we introduce analytical tools that could be useful in other settings; for instance we prove that the Omori-Yau maximum principle holds for the $X$-Laplacian on every generic Ricci soliton, without any assumption on $X$., Comment: Weakened assumptions in main theorems

In this paper we introduce the notion of Einstein-type structure on a Riemannian manifold $\varrg$, unifying various particular cases recently studied in the literature, such as gradient Ricci solitons, Yamabe solitons and quasi-Einstein manifolds. We show that these general structures can be locally classified when the Bach tensor is null. In particular, we extend a recent result of Cao and Chen.
