In 2016, an exposure meter was installed on the Lijiang Fiber-fed High-Resolution Spectrograph to monitor the coupling of starlight to the science fiber during observations. Based on it, we investigated a method to estimate the exposure flux of the CCD in real time by using the counts of the photomultiplier tubes (PMT) of the exposure meter, and developed a piece of software to optimize the control of the exposure time. First, by using flat-field lamp observations, we determined that there is a linear and proportional relationship between the total counts of the PMT and the exposure flux of the CCD. Second, using historical observations of different spectral types, the corresponding relational conversion factors were determined and obtained separately. Third, the method was validated using actual observation data, which showed that all values of the coefficient of determination were greater than 0.92. Finally, software was developed to display the counts of the PMT and the estimated exposure flux of the CCD in real-time during the observation, providing a visual reference for optimizing the exposure time control., Comment: Published in Research in Astronomy and Astrophysics

We investigate the effects of $p$-wave interactions on Efimov trimers in systems comprising two identical heavy fermions and a light particle, with mass ratios larger than $13.6$. Our focus lies on the borromean regime where the ground-state trimer exists in the absence of dimers. Using pair-wise Lennard-Jones potentials and concentrating on the $L^{\pi} = 1^{-}$ symmetry, we explore the critical value of the interspecies $s$-wave scattering length $a_{c}$ at which the borromean state appears in several two-component particle systems. We study the universal properties of $a_{c}$ and the influence of $p$-wave fermion-fermion interactions on its value. Our findings show that, in the absence of $p$-wave fermion-fermion interactions, $a_{c}$ is universally determined by the van der Waals radius and mass ratio. However, when attractive interactions between the two fermions are introduced, the formation of the borromean state becomes favored over the absence of $p$-wave fermion-fermion interaction. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the $p$-wave Efimov effects persist even when the fermion-fermion interaction is taken to the $p$-wave unitary limit.

Non-Negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) is a widely used dimension reduction method that factorizes a non-negative data matrix into two lower dimensional non-negative matrices: One is the basis or feature matrix which consists of the variables and the other is the coefficients matrix which is the projections of data points to the new basis. The features can be interpreted as sub-structures of the data. The number of sub-structures in the feature matrix is also called the rank which is the only tuning parameter in NMF. An appropriate rank will extract the key latent features while minimizing the noise from the original data. In this paper, we develop a novel rank selection method based on hypothesis testing, using a deconvolved bootstrap distribution to assess the significance level accurately despite the large amount of optimization error. In the simulation section, we compare our method with a rank selection method based on hypothesis testing using bootstrap distribution without deconvolution, and with a cross-validated imputation method1. Through simulations, we demonstrate that our method is not only accurate at estimating the true ranks for NMF especially when the features are hard to distinguish but also efficient at computation. When applied to real microbiome data (e.g. OTU data and functional metagenomic data), our method also shows the ability to extract interpretable sub-communities in the data.

In particular, we give a necessary and sufficient condition on $\mu$ so that $\pi^{\bf a}_*\mu$ is exact dimensional for $\mathcal L^{md}$-a.e.~${\bf a}\in \Bbb R^{md}$. Moreover, for every analytic set $E\subset \Sigma$, each of the Hausdorff, packing, lower and upper box-counting dimensions of $\pi^{{\bf a}}(E)$ is constant for $\mathcal L^{md}$-a.e.~${\bf a}\in \Bbb R^{md}$. In this study, we investigate atom--dimer scattering within the framework of the hyperspherical method. The coupled channel Schr\"odinger equation is solved using the R-matrix propagation technique combined with the smooth variable discretization method. In the matching procedure, the asymptotic wave functions are expressed in the rotated Jacobi coordinates. We apply this approach to the elastic scattering $^{3}$He(T$\uparrow$) + $^{4}$He$_{2}$ and H$\uparrow$ + H$\uparrow$Li processes. The convergence of the scattering length as a function of the propagation distance is studied. We find that the method is reliable and can provide considerable savings over previous propagators.

The New Vacuum Solar Telescope (NVST) has been releasing its novel winged Ha data (WHD) since April 2021, namely the Ha imaging spectroscopic data. Compared with the prior released version, the new data are further co-aligned among the off-band images and packaged into a standard solar physics community format. In this study, we illustrate the alignment algorithm used by the novel WHD, which is mainly based on the optical flow method to obtain the translation offset between the winged images. To quantitatively evaluate the alignment results of two images with different similarities, we calculate the alignment accuracies between the images of different off-band and line center, respectively. The result shows that our alignment algorithm could reach up to the accuracy of about 0.1 "when the off-band of winged image is lower than 0.6 \.A. In addition, we introduce the final product of the WHD in detail, which can provide convenience for the solar physicists to use high-resolution H{\alpha} imaging spectroscopic data of NVST., Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures

We prove that for all $s\in(0,d)$ and $c\in (0,1)$ there exists a self-similar set $E\subset \mathbb{R}^d$ with Hausdorff dimension $s$ such that $\mathcal{H}^s(E)=c|E|^s$. This answers a question raised by Zhiying Wen[16].

Deconvolution is the important problem of estimating the distribution of a quantity of interest from a sample with additive measurement error. Nearly all methods in the literature are based on Fourier transformation because it is mathematically a very neat solution. However, in practice these methods are unstable, and produce bad estimates when signal-noise ratio or sample size are low. In this paper, we develop a new deconvolution method based on maximum likelihood with a smoothness penalty. We have studied the three-body recombination rates on both sides of the interspecies d-wave Feshbach resonance in the $^{85}$Rb\,-$^{87}$Rb-$^{87}$Rb system using the $R$-matrix propagation method in the hyperspherical coordinate frame. Two different mechanisms of recombination rate enhancement for positive and negative $^{85}$Rb\,-$^{87}$Rb d-wave scattering lengths are analyzed. On the positive scattering length side, the recombination rate enhancement occurs due to the existence of three-body shape resonance, while on the negative scattering length side, the coupling between the lowest entrance channel and the highest recombination channel is crucial to the appearance of the enhancement. In addition, our study shows that the intraspecies interaction plays a significant role in determining the emergence of recombination rate enhancements. Compared to the case in which the three pairwise interactions are all in d-wave resonance, when the $^{87}$Rb-$^{87}$Rb interaction is near the d-wave resonance, the values of the interspecies scattering length that produce the recombination enhancement shift. In particular, when the $^{87}$Rb-$^{87}$Rb interaction is away from the d-wave resonance, the enhancement disappears on the negative interspecies scattering length side.

Traditional indoor scene synthesis methods often take a two-step approach: object selection and object arrangement. Current state-of-the-art object selection approaches are based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and can produce realistic scenes for a single room. However, they cannot be directly extended to synthesize style-compatible scenes for multiple rooms with different functions. To address this issue, we treat the object selection problem as combinatorial optimization based on a Labeled LDA (L-LDA) model. We first calculate occurrence probability distribution of object categories according to a topic model, and then sample objects from each category considering their function diversity along with style compatibility, while regarding not only separate rooms, but also associations among rooms. User study shows that our method outperforms the baselines by incorporating multi-function and multi-room settings with style constraints, and sometimes even produces plausible scenes comparable to those produced by professional designers., Comment: 11 pages, 18 figures

In this paper we illustrate the technique used by the New Vacuum Solar Telescope to increase the spatial resolution of two-dimensional (2D) solar spectroscopy observation involving two dimensions of space and one of wavelength. Without an image stabilizer at the NVST, a large scale wobble motion is present during the spatial scanning, whose instantaneous amplitude could reach up to 1.3" due to the earth's atmosphere and the precision of the telescope guiding system, and seriously decreases the spatial resolution of 2D spatial maps composed with the scanning spectra. We make the following effort to resolve this problem: the imaging system (e.g., the TiO-band) is used to record and detect the displacement vectors of solar image motion during the raster scan, in both the slit and scanning directions. The spectral data (e.g., the Ha line) which are originally obtained in time sequence are corrected and re-arranged in space according to those displacement vectors. Raster scans are carried out in several active regions with different seeing conditions (two rasters are illustrated in this paper). Given a certain spatial sample and temporal resolution, the spatial resolution of the composed 2D map could be close to that of the slit-jaw image. The resulting quality after correction is quantitatively evaluated with two methods. Two-dimensional physical quantity, such as the line-of-sight velocities in multi-layer of the solar atmosphere, is also inferred demonstrating the effect of this technique., Comment: 12 pages, 9 figures

Trilayer graphene (TLG) exhibits rich novel electronic properties and extraordinary quantum Hall phenomena owning to enhanced electronic interactions and tunable chirality of its quasiparticles. Here, we report direct observation of chirality transition of quasiparticles at stacking solitons of TLG via spatial-resolved Landau level spectroscopy. The one-dimensional stacking solitons with width of the order of 10 nm separate adjacent Bernal-stacked TLG and rhombohedral-stacked TLG. By using high field tunneling spectra of scanning tunneling microscopy, we measured Landau quantization in both the Bernal-stacked TLG and the rhombohedral-stacked TLG and, importantly, we observed evolution of quasiparticles between the chiral degree l = 1&2 and l = 3 across the stacking domain wall solitons. Our experiment indicates that such a chirality transition occurs smoothly, accompanying the transition of the stacking orders of TLG, around the domain wall solitons. This result demonstrates the important and hitherto neglected relationship between the crystallographic stacking order and the chirality of quasiparticles in graphene systems., Comment: 4 Figures

Schur-type methods in \cite{Chu2} and \cite{GCQX} solve the robust pole assignment problem by employing the departure from normality of the closed-loop system matrix as the measure of robustness. They work well generally when all poles to be assigned are simple. However, when some poles are close or even repeated, the eigenvalues of the computed closed-loop system matrix might be inaccurate. In this paper, we present a refined Schur method, which is able to deal with the case when some or all of the poles to be assigned are repeated. More importantly, the refined Schur method can still be applied when \verb|place| \cite{KNV} and \verb|robpole| \cite{Tits} fail to output a solution when the multiplicity of some repeated poles is greater than the input freedom.

Properties of semi-convection and core convective overshooting of stars with 15 $M_{\odot}$ and 30 $M_{\odot}$ are calculated in the present paper. New methods are used to deal with semi-convection. Different entropy gradient is used when adopting the Schwarzschild method and the Ledoux method which are used to confine the convective boundary and to calculate the turbulent quantities: $\frac{\partial \overline{s}}{\partial r}=-\frac{c_{p}}{H_P}(\nabla-\nabla_{\rm ad})$ when the Schwarzschild method is adopted and $\frac{\partial \overline{s}}{\partial r}=-\frac{c_{p}}{H_P}(\nabla-\nabla_{\rm ad}-\nabla_{\mu})$ when the Ledoux method is adopted. Core convective overshooting and semi-convection are treated as a whole part and the development of them are found to present nearly opposite tendency, more intensive core convective overshooting lead to weaker semi-convection. The influences of different parameters and the convection processing methods on the turbulent quantities are analyzed in this paper. Increasing the mixing-length parameter $\alpha$ leads to more turbulent dynamic energy in the convective core and prolonging the overshooting distance but depressing the development of semi-convection. The Ledoux method adopted leads to overshooting extending further and semi-convection developing suppressed.

We investigate the time evolution of quantum discord and entanglement for two-qubit coupled to a spin chain with three-site interaction in the weak-coupling region. If the quantum system evolves from a Bell state, quantum correlations decay to zero in a very short time at the critical point of the environment. We found there exist some special interval of the three-site coupling strength in which the decay of quantum discord and entanglement can be delayed. When the qubits are initially prepared in a Bell diagonal state, the decay of entanglement is also delayed in the special interval, but the decay of quantum discord is enhanced. Besides, the sudden transition between classical and quantum decoherence is observed. we found the transition time can be lengthened at the special range of three-site interaction and shorten by degree of anisotropy.

We study the effects of mobility on the evolution of cooperation among mobile players, which imitate collective motion of biological flocks and interact with neighbors within a prescribed radius $R$. Adopting the prisoner's dilemma game and the snowdrift game as metaphors, we find that cooperation can be maintained and even enhanced for low velocities and small payoff parameters, when compared with the case that all agents do not move. But such enhancement of cooperation is largely determined by the value of $R$, and for modest values of $R$, there is an optimal value of velocity to induce the maximum cooperation level. Besides, we find that intermediate values of $R$ or initial population densities are most favorable for cooperation, when the velocity is fixed. Depending on the payoff parameters, the system can reach an absorbing state of cooperation when the snowdrift game is played. We investigate an evolutionary prisoner's dilemma game among self-driven agents, where collective motion of biological flocks is imitated through averaging directions of neighbors. Depending on the temptation to defect and the velocity at which agents move, we find that cooperation can not only be maintained in such a system but there exists an optimal size of interaction neighborhood, which can induce the maximum cooperation level. When compared with the case that all agents do not move, cooperation can even be enhanced by the mobility of individuals, provided that the velocity and the size of neighborhood are not too large. Besides, we find that the system exhibits aggregation behavior, and cooperators may coexist with defectors at equilibrium., Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures, to be published in Physica A

The objective of this study is to investigate the yarn geometry of multiaxial preforms. The importance of multiaxial preforms for structural composites is well recognized by the industry but, to exploit their full potential, engineering design rules must be established. This study is a step in that direction. In this work the preform geometry for knitted and braided preforms was studied by making a range of well designed samples and studying them by photo microscopy. The structural geometry of the preforms is related to the processing parameters. Based on solid modeling and B-spline methodology a software package is developed. This computer code enables real time structural representations of complex fiber architecture based on the rule of preform manufacturing. The code has the capability of zooming and section plotting. These capabilities provide a powerful means to study the effect of processing variables on the preform geometry. the code also can be extended to an auto mesh generator for downstream structural analysis using finite element method. This report is organized into six sections. In the first section the scope and background of this work is elaborated. In section two the unit cell geometries of braided and multi-axial warp knitted preforms is discussed. The theoretical frame work of yarn path modeling and solid modeling is presented in section three. The thin section microscopy carried out to observe the structural geometry of the preforms is the subject in section four. The structural geometry is related to the processing parameters in section five. Section six documents the implementation of the modeling techniques into the computer code MP-CAD. A user manual for the software is also presented here. The source codes and published papers are listed in the Appendices.
