Organizations across various industries are still exploring the potential of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) to enhance knowledge work. While innovation is often viewed as a product of individual creativity, it more commonly unfolds through a highly structured, collaborative process where creativity intertwines with knowledge work. However, the extent and effectiveness of GenAI in supporting this process remain open questions. Our study investigates this issue using a collaborative practice research approach focused on three GenAI-enabled innovation projects conducted over a year within three different organizations. We explored how, why, and when GenAI could be integrated into design sprints, a highly structured, collaborative, and human-centered innovation method. Our research identified challenges and opportunities in synchronizing AI capabilities with human intelligence and creativity. To translate these insights into practical strategies, we propose four recommendations for organizations eager to leverage GenAI to both streamline and bring more value to their innovation processes: (1) establish a collaborative intelligence value loop with GenAI; (2) build trust in GenAI, (3) develop robust data collection and curation workflows, and (4) cultivate a craftsmanship mindset., Comment: 46 pages, 4 figures

The presence of topography influences the seismic ground motion and may result in strong amplifications, generally at the top of hills and reliefs. The increasing urbanization of hills requires an accurate estimation of these effects even in areas of moderate seismicity. The simplified coefficients provided by the Eurocodes8 do not depend on the frequency and underestimate the amplification in many situations, which justifies the development of new methods based on easily accessible data. The city of Menton, located in the southeast of France, between the Alps and the Ligurian basin, is one of the most exposed metropolitan cities. We propose a study of topographic effects applied to the Menton area. Topographic amplification is calculated, on a wide frequency band, using the Frequency-Scaled Curvature method, from a DEM and an average value of the shear wave velocity. We then propose to apply an automatic clustering approach to classify the amplification curves into five groups with similar properties. We then deduce a first microzonation map of the topographic effects in the Menton area.

Continually learning new classes from a few training examples without forgetting previous old classes demands a flexible architecture with an inevitably growing portion of storage, in which new examples and classes can be incrementally stored and efficiently retrieved. One viable architectural solution is to tightly couple a stationary deep neural network to a dynamically evolving explicit memory (EM). As the centerpiece of this architecture, we propose an EM unit that leverages energy-efficient in-memory compute (IMC) cores during the course of continual learning operations. We demonstrate for the first time how the EM unit can physically superpose multiple training examples, expand to accommodate unseen classes, and perform similarity search during inference, using operations on an IMC core based on phase-change memory (PCM). Specifically, the physical superposition of a few encoded training examples is realized via in-situ progressive crystallization of PCM devices. The classification accuracy achieved on the IMC core remains within a range of 1.28%--2.5% compared to that of the state-of-the-art full-precision baseline software model on both the CIFAR-100 and miniImageNet datasets when continually learning 40 novel classes (from only five examples per class) on top of 60 old classes., Comment: Accepted at the European Solid-state Devices and Circuits Conference (ESSDERC), September 2022

In this paper, we present a semantic web approach for modelling the process of creating new technical and regulatory documents related to the Building sector. This industry, among other industries, is currently experiencing a phenomenal growth in its technical and regulatory texts. Therefore, it is urgent and crucial to improve the process of creating regulations by automating it as much as possible. We focus on the creation of particular technical documents issued by the French Scientific and Technical Centre for Building (CSTB), called Technical Assessments, and we propose services based on Semantic Web models and techniques for modelling the process of their creation., Comment: In the International Council for Building Conference, CIB 2011 (2011)

This paper presents a model of collaborative telelearning and describes how coordination theory has provided a framework for the analysis of actor (inter)dependencies in this scenario. The model is intended to inform the instructional design of learning scenarios, the technological design of the telelearning environment, and the design of intelligent agents to mediate or to support the mediation of collaborative telelearning. The first section introduces the challenges of telelearning, focusing on the fluid mediation of collaborative learning activity. Computer supported collaborative learning (CSCL) and coordination theory are discussed in the second section. The third section presents the model and its use in distance learning in a strategic management course at Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales in Montreal (Canada); the part of the course that the learning scenarios document utilizes Netstrat, an Internet-based strategic management simulation. Reading the model is explained in the next section. The fifth section discusses the analysis of dependencies between actors in distance learning scenarios and describes the concept of collaborative shared interdependence through a shared activity. Students, teachers, and authors need to access multimedia documents over heterogeneous networks. The efficient handling of time-dependent multimedia information such as audio and video in distributed systems requires considerable network and computing resources. The term Quality of Service (QoS) refers collectively to the specifications of these resources for a given type of service, and to the mechanisms through which these resources can be allocated. QoS is a major consideration for instructional use. A Distributed Multimedia Database (DMD) (a distributed multimedia file system augmented by some search capabilities) was developed to answer these needs. Two sites at the University of Montreal and Teleuniversity (Quebec, Canada) campuses were interconnected, each site having a number of workstations. The network configuration consists of a low-speed line between the two campuses (modems at 14.4Kbaud/sec, yielding speeds up to 32Kbits/sec), connection two LANS (local area networks) (ethernet), one on each campus. DMD is built upon two components: Apple Remote Access (ARA), and the Alias mechanism of OS 7.1. The file system is implemented on Macintoshes in HyperCard, and the user interface consists of the following: a global catalog named GC, showing the list of all files available in the DMD; file display showing retrieved files; and audio and video control panel. The DMD has been connected to an integrated learning environment, HYPERGUIDE, which provides distance education students with the structure and objectives of a course, course contents, document base, and guidance throughout the learning activities. A scenario has been designed for computer supported collaborative learning activities using the DMD. The Distributed Jigsaw scenario was implemented and tested. Accessing multimedia documents over heterogeneous networks can benefit students and authors. Facilities for QoS negotiation is critical for instructional use. (MAS)

We show that a large class of supersymmetric solutions to the low-energy effective field theory of heterotic string theory compactified on a seven torus can have finite energy, which we compute. The mechanism by which these solutions are turned into finite energy solutions is similar to the one occurring in the context of four-dimensional stringy cosmic string solutions. We consider the low-energy effective field theory of heterotic string theory compactified on a seven-torus, and we construct electrically charged as well as more general solitonic solutions. These solutions preserve 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 of N=8, D=3 supersymmetry and have Killing spinors which exist due to cancellation of holonomies. In this letter we study supersymmetric sigma models on toric varieties. These manifolds are generalizations of CP^n manifolds. We examine here sigma models, viewed as gauged linear sigma models, on one of the simplest such manifold, the blow-up of P^2_(2,1,1), and determine their properties using the techniques of topological- antitopological fusion. We find that the model contains solitons which become massless at the singular point of the theory where a gauge symmetry remains unbroken., Comment: 16 pages, LaTeX

N=2 supersymmetric field theories in two dimensions have been extensively studied in the last few years. Many of their properties can be determined along the whole renormalization group flow, like their coupling dependence and soliton spectra. We discuss here several models which can be solved completely, when the number of superfields is taken to be large, by studying their topological-antitopological fusion equations. We study the topological-antitopological fusion equations for supersymmetric sigma models on Grassmannian manifolds G(k,N). We find a basis in which the metric becomes diagonal and the $tt^*$ equations become tractable. The solution for the metric of G(k,N) can then be described in terms of the metric for the $CP^{N-1}$ models. The IR expansion helps clarify the picture of the vacua and gives the soliton numbers and masses. We discuss the large $N$ limit of the supersymmetric $CP^N$ models as an illustration of Cecotti and Vafa's $tt^*$ formalism. In this limit the `$tt^*$ equation' becomes the long wavelength limit of the $2D$ Toda lattice, an equation first studied in the context of self-dual gravity. We find and analyze the Landau-Ginzburg potentials whose critical points determine chiral rings which are exactly the fusion rings of Sp(N)_{K} WZW models. The quasi-homogeneous part of the potential associated with Sp(N)_{K} is the same as the quasi-homogeneous part of that associated with SU(N+1)_{K}, showing that these potentials are different perturbations of the same Grassmannian potential. Twisted N=2 topological Landau-Ginzburg theories are derived from these superpotentials. The correlation functions, which are just the Sp(N)_{K} Verlinde dimensions, are expressed as fusion residues. We note that the Sp(N)_{K} and Sp(K)_{N} topological Landau-Ginzburg theories are identical, and that while the SU(N)_{K} and SU(K)_{N} topological Landau-Ginzburg models are not, they are simply related., Comment: 13 pages

A multiple case study was conducted, using constant comparison of interview transcripts with three counselors and three families who had recently completed counseling using a postmodern approach. The distortion of the electron cascade development under LPM effects is now admitted; it consists of an increase of depth of showers origin, of shower maximum T sum max, a decrease of the number of particles at maximum N sub max and results in a flattening and a widening of the cascade transition curve. Connected with the influence of multiple Coulomb scattering on basic electromagnetic processes (bremsstrahlung, pair production), this effect appears at high energy with a threshold dependent on the density of the medium (more than 10 TeV for lead, more than 10 sup 6 TeV in air). Consequently, the electromagnetic components of hadron induced showers in lead and EAS in air calculated for the same hadronic cascades in the different alternative, including or not the LPM effect are examined here.
