We show the existence of infinitely many Bethe expansions for general four dimensional superconformal theories. We then propose an analytic method to systematically obtain all the Bethe solutions, both isolated and continuous, for general superconformal theories. In particular, we show that the contribution from the continuous manifold of solutions to the index comes from isolated points on this manifold. We check our proposals on $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM. For $U(3)$ or $SU(3)$, which are the first examples with continuous solutions, we demonstrate the non-trivial cancellation between the tachyon contributions from the previously known isolated solutions and those from the continuous solutions., Comment: 56pp

The Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP) modifies the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle (HUP) between position and momentum by introducing a nonzero minimum uncertainty in position. In a previous study, we demonstrated the emergence of GUP from non-extensive entropies, particularly for $S_\pm$ dependent only on the probability. In this new research, we derive a generalized energy-time uncertainty relation from these entropies. Consequently, we observe that the dispersion relation undergoes modification due to the non-extensivity introduced by the entropies $S_{+}$ and $S_{-}$. These modifications play a significant role at the Planck scale, but are negligible in the classical regime of large distances and low energies. Moreover, the modified uncertainty relation results in a maximum uncertainty in energy, attributed to the negative deformation parameter associated with entropy $S_{+}$. Conversely, the deformation parameter linked with $S_{-}$ leads to the emergence of a minimum time interval. In the Planck regime, the minimum time interval is on the order of the Planck time, while the maximum uncertainty in energy reaches the Planck energy. These findings imply that quantum gravity effects can be connected with non-extensive statistics.

We study the axio-dilaton and complex structure stabilization for a generic one-parameter Calabi-Yau (CY) compactification. We focus on near the conifold regions and consider a strongly warped metric. We analyze numerically the case of the mirror of the quintic CY. The axio-dilaton $\tau$ and complex structure $z$ moduli are stabilized simultaneously comparing with previous results, showing that generically $z$ is heavier than $\tau$, and the axio-dilaton can not be fixed first. This is also the case when we add the warping correction to the potential; and in general this inclusion does not destabilize the moduli. We point out why in this setup non-supersymmetric vacua are much more dense than supersymmetric vacua. We study the dependence of the vacua stabilization by addition of an $\overline{D3}$-brane, for a fixed volume. The vacuum state masses have divergent eigenvalues near the conifold singularity that gets softened by the warping correction. Generically the considered contributions allow to find stable vacua in this setup. We describe non-Abelian T-dualities for $\mathcal{N} = 2$ two dimensional gauged linear sigma model (GLSM). We start with the case of left and right $(2, 2)$ supersymmetry (SUSY), $U(1)$ gauge group, and global non-Abelian symmetries. Our analysis applies to the specialization of the GLSM with the global group $SU(2)\times SU(2)$, whose original model is the resolved conifold. We analyze the dual model and compute the periods on the dual geometry, matching the effective potential for the $U(1)$ gauge field, and discuss the coincident singularity at the conifold point. We further present the non-Abelian T-dualization of models with $(0,2)$ SUSY, analyzing the case of global symmetry $SU(2)$. In this case the full non-Abelian duality can be solved. The dual geometries with and without non-perturbative corrections to the superpotential coincide. The structure of the dual non-perturbative corrections employed are determined based on symmetry arguments. The non-Abelian T-dualities reviewed here lead to potential new symmetries between physical theories., Comment: 22 pages

The continuum of holographic dual gravitational charges is recovered out of the discrete spectrum of $U(N)$ $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM on $\mathbb{R}\times S^3\,$. In such a limit, the free energy of the free gauge theory is computed up to logarithmic contributions and exponentially suppressed contributions. Assuming the supergravity dual prediction to correctly capture strong-coupling results in field theory, the answer is bound to encode a complete low-temperature expansion of the Gibbons-Hawking gravitational on-shell action, valid well beyond the vicinity of supersymmetric black hole solutions. The formula recovers the long awaited Schwarzian contribution at low enough temperatures for certain choices of flows to the continuum. One such choice identifies the chemical potentials and thermodynamic charges in field theory with the chemical potentials and thermodynamic charges of the dual black holes. For such a flow the computed mass-gap kinematically matches the conjectured strong-coupling result obtained by Boruch, Heydeman, Iliesiu and Turiaci in supergravity, including small $1/\lambda$-corrections. The {emergent} reparameterizations, broken by the selection of the Schwarzian, correspond to redefinitions of the relevant cutoff scale. Observations are made regarding the existence of $\frac{1}{8}$-BPS black holes and how this is in tension with BPS inequalities. The flavored superconformal Schur index of $\mathcal N=4$ $U(N)$ SYM has finite $N$ corrections encoded in its giant graviton expansion in terms of D3 branes wrapped in $AdS_{5}\times S^{5}$. The key element of this decomposition is the non-trivial index of the theory living on the wrapped brane system. A remarkable feature of the Schur limit is that the brane index is an analytic continuation of the flavored index of $\mathcal N=4$ $U(n)$ SYM, where $n$ is the total brane wrapping number. We exploit recent exact results about the Schur index of $\mathcal N=4$ $U(N)$ SYM to evaluate the closed form of the the brane indices appearing in the giant graviton expansion. Away from the unflavored limit, they are characterized by quasimodular forms providing exact information at all orders in the index universal fugacity. As an application of these results, we present novel exact expressions for the giant graviton expansion of the unflavored Schur index in a class of four dimensional $\mathcal N=2$ theories with equal central charges $a=c$, i.e. the non-Lagrangian theories $\widehat{\Gamma}(SU(N))$ with $\Gamma = E_{6}, E_{7}, E_{8}$., Comment: 34 pages. v2: minor changes

We consider the refined Schur superconformal index of 4d $\mathcal N=4$ $U(N)$ SYM and the first term of its giant-graviton expansion, first predicted in arXiv:2001.11667 using indirect superconformal algebra considerations and analytic continuation of fugacities. This correction is the leading non-perturbative correction to the index at large $N$ and we reproduce it from the semiclassical partition function of quantum D3 brane wrapped on $S^{1}\times S^{3}$ in a twisted modification of the $AdS_{5}\times S^{5}$ string background, depending on the index R-symmetry fugacity. Our calculation does not exploit directly supersymmetry. It is based on the determination of the partition function of the various bosonic and fermionic fluctuations on the wrapped brane whose action is conformal with specific constant holonomies along thermal cycle. We show how those partition functions may be obtained by adapting the operator counting method of Cardy to the twisted background., Comment: 31 pages

Understanding how the thermodynamic properties of a black hole are modified when probed by D-branes is an important problem in AdS/CFT. This work focuses on a recently proposed black hole/D3-brane system in AdS$_5\times$S$^5$, which is dual to four-dimensional N=4 SYM in the presence of a two-dimensional surface defect. The Laplace transform that extracts the asymptotic growth of states in this defect CFT naturally defines a thermodynamic approach in the gravitational side of the duality for which charges and entropy are real. Studying the superconformal defect index in a large-charge expansion for all values of~$N$, we compute the leading correction to the entropy of the combined system, which matches precisely with its gravity counterpart., Comment: 24 pages, 3 figures

Two dimensional gauged linear sigma models(GLSMs) with $(0,2)$ supersymmetry and $U(1)$ gauge group possesing global symmetries are considered. For the case obtained as a reduction from the $(2,2)$ supersymmetric GLSM, we find the Abelian T-dual, comparing with previous studies. Then, the Abelian T-dual model of the pure $(0,2)$ theory is found. Instanton corrections are also discussed in both situations. In the cases under study we explore the vacua for the scalar potential and we analyse the target space geometry of the dual model. A model with gauge symmetry $U(1)\times U(1)$ is also discussed as precursor of an interesting example with non-Abelian global symmetry. Non-Abelian T-dualization of $U(1)$ $(0,2)$ $2d$ GLSMs is implemented for models which arise as a reduction from $(2,2)$ supersymmetry; we study a concrete model with $U(1)$ gauge symmetry and $SU(2)$ global symmetry. It is shown that for a positive definite scalar potential, the dual vacua to $\mathbb{P}^1$ constitutes a disk. Instanton corrections to the superpotential are obtained and shown to be encoded in a shifting of the holomorphic function ${E}$. We conclude by analyzing an example with $SU(2)\times SU(2)$ global symmetry and we obtain that the space of dual vacua to $\mathbb{P}^1\times \mathbb{P}^1$ consists of two copies of the disk, also for the case of positive definite potential. We show that the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of large supersymmetric black holes in AdS$_5\times S^5$ emerges from remarkable cancellations in the giant graviton expansions recently proposed by Imamura, and Gaiotto and Lee, independently. A similar cancellation mechanism is shown to happen in the exact expansion in terms of free fermions recently put-forward by Murthy. These two representations can be understood as sums over independent systems of giant D3-branes and free fermions, respectively. At large charges, the free energy of each independent system localizes to its asymptotic expansion near the leading singularity. The sum over the independent systems maps their localized free energy to the localized free energy of the superconformal index of $U(N)$ $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM. This result constitutes a non-perturbative test of the giant graviton expansion valid at any value of $N$. We consider the Schur index of $\mathcal N=4$ $U(N)$ SYM theory in 4d and its holographic giant graviton-type expansion at finite $N$. We compute the world-volume brane superconformal index by a recently proposed definition of the gauge holonomy integral as a multivariate residue. This is evaluated by a novel deformation algorithm that avoids Gr\"obner basis methods. Various terms of the brane expansion are computed and shown to be free of wall-crossing singularities to the order we explored. We exhibit an infinite family of supersymmetric phases in the three-dimensional ABJM superconformal field theory and the dual asymptotically AdS$_4$ gravity. They are interpreted as partially deconfined phases which generalize the confined/pure AdS phase and deconfined/supersymmetric black hole phase. Our analysis involves finding a family of saddle-points of the superconformal index labelled by rational points (equivalently, roots of unity), separately in the bulk and boundary theories. In the ABJM theory we calculate the free energy of each saddle by the large-$N$ asymptotic expansion of the superconformal index to all orders in perturbation theory near the saddle-point. We find that this expansion terminates at finite order. In the gravitational theory we show that there is a corresponding family of solutions, constructed by orbifolding the eleven-dimensional uplift of the supersymmetric black hole. The on-shell gravitational action of each orbifold agrees with the free energy of the corresponding saddle in the SCFT. We find that there are two saddles in the ABJM theory with the same entropy as the supersymmetric black hole, corresponding to the two primitive fourth-roots of unity, which causes macroscopic oscillations in the microcanonical index., Comment: 52 pages plus appendices; v2: updated references and added comments on holographic renormalization

We consider four dimensional $U(N)$ $\mathcal N=4$ SYM theory interacting with a 3d $\mathcal N=4$ theory living on a codimension-one interface and holographically dual to the D3-D5 system without flux. Localization captures several observables in this dCFT, including its free energy, related to the defect expectation value, and single trace $\frac{1}{2}$-BPS composite scalars. These quantities may be computed in a hermitian one-matrix model with non-polynomial single-trace potential. We exploit the integrable Volterra hierarchy underlying the matrix model and systematically study its $1/N$ expansion at any value of the 't Hooft coupling. In particular, the strong coupling regime is determined -- up to non-perturbative exponentially suppressed corrections -- by differential relations that constrain higher order terms in the $1/N$ expansion. In this work, we discuss the SIR epidemiological model and different variations of it applied to the propagation of the COVID-19 pandemia; we employ the data of the state of Guanajuato and of Mexico. We present some considerations that can improve the predictions made by those models. We consider a time-dependent infection rate, which we adjust to the data. Starting from a linear regime where the populations are much smaller that the country or state population and the population of susceptible (S) can be approximated in convenient units to S approximately 1, we make fits of the parameters. We also consider the case when the susceptible starts departing from 1, for this case we adjust an effective contagion rate. We also explore the ratio of detected populations and the real ones, obtaining that -for the analyzed case it is of approximately 10%. We estimate the number of deaths by making a fit versus the recovered cases, this fit is in first approximation linear, but other powers can give a good agreement. By predictions to past data, we conclude that adaptations of the SIR model can be of great use in describing pandemia's propagation, specially in limited time periods., Comment: 10 pages, 28 figures

Electric currents circulating between charged clouds and the earth surface during lightning discharges are responsible for considerable damages and casualties. It is therefore important to develop better protection methods in addition to the traditional Franklin rod. Here we present the first demonstration that filaments formed by short and intense laser pulses can guide lightning discharges over considerable distances. We believe that this experimental breakthrough will lead to progress in lightning protection and lightning physics. An experimental campaign was carried out on the S\"antis Mountain in Northeastern Switzerland during the Summer of 2021 with a high repetition rate terawatt laser. The guiding of an upward negative lightning leader over a distance of 50 m was recorded by two separate high-speed cameras. The guiding of negative lightning leaders by laser filaments was corroborated in three other instances by VHF interferometric measurements, and the number of X-ray bursts detected during guided lightning events was significantly increased. While this research field has been very active for more than 20 years with many research groups around the world working to achieve this goal, this result demonstrates lightning guiding by lasers, which may lead to the development of a laser lightning rod. This work paves the way for new atmospheric applications of ultrashort lasers and represents a significant step forward in the development of a laser based lightning protection for airports, launchpads or large infrastructures., Comment: Laser-guided lightning. The Heisenberg uncertainty principle is known to be connected to the entropic uncertainty principle. This correspondence is obtained employing a Gaussian probability distribution for wave functions associated to the Shannon entropy. Independently, due to quantum gravity effects the Heisenberg uncertainty principle has been extended to a Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP). In this work, we show that GUP has been derived from considering non-extensive entropies, proposed by one of us. We found that the deformation parameters associated with $S_{+}$ and $S_-$ entropies are negative and positive respectively. This allows us to explore various possibilities in the search of physical implications. We consider a U(1) Gauged Linear Sigma Model (GLSM) with (2,2) supersymmetry, leading to a susy vacua of the resolved conifold. It possesses the non-Abelian global symmetry SU(2)xSU(2). A non-Abelian T-duality can be constructed which can be described by gauging the global non-Abelian symmetry. This leads to a dual action, in terms of the dual model Kaehler and superpotential terms, which include twisted chiral superfields dependence. Comparing the effective potentials for the U(1) fields on the original and the dual models we determine the instanton corrections to the dual action. We obtain the supersymmetry vacua solution of the dual model, in three cases: first in an Abelian direction inside SU(2)xSU(2), then for an Abelian direction considering instanton corrections and finally for a semi-chiral non Abelian vector superfield. The dual geometry for all of these cases (SUSY vacua space) is given by T5xR. However the instanton corrections restrict the Fayet-Iliopoulos term to be zero and fix the theta-term, which implies that the duality is established for the case of the singular conifold. It is argued that $4d$ $SU(N)$ $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM has an accumulation line of zero-temperature topologically ordered phases. Each of these phases corresponds to $N$ bound states charged under electromagnetic $\mathbb{Z}^{(1)}_N$ one-form symmetries. Each of the $N$ bound states is made of two Dyonic flux components each of them extended over a two dimensional surface. We study the expansion near roots of unity of the superconformal index of 4d $SU(N)$ $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM. In such an expansion, middle-dimensional walls of non-analyticity are shown to emerge in the complex analytic extension of the integrand. These walls intersect the integration contour at infinitesimal vicinities and come from both, the vector and chiral multiplet contributions, and combinations thereof. We will call these intersections vector and chiral bits, and the complementary region bulk, and show that, in the corresponding limit, the integrals along the infinitesimal bits include, among other contributions, factorized products of either Chern-Simons and 3d topologically twisted partition functions. In particular, we find that the leading asymptotic contribution to the index, which comes from collecting all contributions coming from vector bits, reduces to an average over a set of $N$ copies of three-dimensional $SU(N)$ Chern-Simons partition functions in Lens spaces $L(m,1)$ with $m>1\,$, in the presence of background $\mathbb{Z}^{N-1}_m$ flat connections. The average is taken over the background connections, which are the positions of individual vector bits along the contour. We also find there are other subleading contributions, a finite number of them at finite $N$, which include averages over products of Chern-Simons and/or topologically $A$-twisted Chern-Simons-matter partition functions in three-dimensional manifolds. This shows how in certain limits the index of 4d $SU(N)$ $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM organizes, via an unambiguously defined coarse graining procedure, into averages over a finite number of lower dimensional theories., Comment: 62pp. Details on the contour decomposition added in Section 1 and Appendices

The infection dynamics of a population under stationary isolation conditions is modeled. It is underlined that the stationary character of the isolation measures can be expected to imply that an effective SIR model with constant parameters should describe the infection process. Then, a derivation of this property is presented, assuming that the statistical fluctuations in the number of infection and recovered cases are disregarded. This effective SIR model shows a reduced population number and a constant $\beta$ parameter. The effects of also including the retardation between recovery and infection process is also considered. Next, it is shown that any solution of the effective SIR also solves the linear problem to which the SIR equations reduce when the total population is much larger than the number of the infected cases. Then, it is also argued that this equivalence follows for a specific contagious parameter $\beta(t)$ which time dependence is analytically derived here. Then, two equivalent predictive calculational methods for the infection dynamics under stationary isolation measures are proposed. The results represent a solutions for the known and challenging problem of defining the time dependence of the contagion parameter, when the SIR parameter $N$ is assumed to be the whole population number. Finally, the model is applied to describe the known infection curves for countries that already had passed the epidemic process under strict stationary isolation measures. The cases of Iceland, New Zealand, Korea and Cuba were considered. Although, non subject to stationary isolation measures the cases of U.S.A. and Mexico are also examined due to their interest. By applying the Atiyah-Bott-Berline-Vergne equivariant integration formula upon double dimensional integrals, we find a way to compute the matrix integral representations of $4d$ $\mathcal{N}=1$ superconformal indices. The final formula allows us to easily extract analytic results in the large-rank expansion of certain theories. As an example, we compute the leading one-loop corrections to the effective action of the known complex saddles in those theories. For a superconformal index of $SU(N)$ $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM, we use the equivariant integration formula and the Picard-Lefschetz method to show that at large enough values of $N$, only two, among the known complex saddles, dominate the counting of large operators i.e. of operators with charges of order $N^2$. Contributions from other known complex saddles are present, but we show they are exponentially suppressed in that range of charges; the smaller the charges the less suppressed they are, and eventually, to count small operators i.e. operators with charges smaller than $N^{2/3}$, like multi-gravitons, they can not be neglected., Comment: 42 pp + appendices

We consider the SIR epidemiological model applied to the evolution of COVID-19 with two approaches. In the first place we fit a global SIR model, with time delay, and constant parameters throughout the outbreak, including the contagion rate. The contention measures are reflected on an effective reduced susceptible population $N_{eff}$. In the second approach we consider a time-dependent contagion rate that reflects the contention measures either through a step by step fitting process or by following an exponential decay. In this last model the population is considered the one of the country $N$. In the linear region of the differential equations, when the total population $N$ is large the predictions are independent of $N$. We apply these methodologies to study the spread of the pandemic in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and South Africa for which the infection peaks are yet to be reached. In all of these cases we provide estimates for the reproduction and recovery rates. The scenario for a time varying contagion rate is optimistic, considering that reasonable measures are taken such that the reproduction factor $R_0$ decreases exponentially. The measured values for the recovery rate $\gamma$ are reported finding a universality of this parameter over various countries. We consider Type IIB compactifications on an isotropic torus $T^6$ threaded by geometric and non geometric fluxes. For this particular setup we apply supervised machine learning techniques, namely an artificial neural network coupled to a genetic algorithm, in order to obtain more than sixty thousand flux configurations yielding to a scalar potential with at least one critical point. We observe that both stable AdS vacua with large moduli masses and small vacuum energy as well as unstable dS vacua with small tachyonic mass and large energy are absent, in accordance to the Refined de Sitter Conjecture. Moreover, by considering a hierarchy among fluxes, we observe that perturbative solutions with small values for the vacuum energy and moduli masses are favored, as well as scenarios in which the lightest modulus mass is much greater than the corresponding AdS vacuum scale. Finally we apply some results on Random Matrix Theory to conclude that the most probable mass spectrum derived from this string setup is that satisfying the Refined de Sitter and AdS scale conjectures., Comment: 30 pages, 14 Figures. We systematically analyze the large-$N$ limit of the superconformal index of $\mathcal{N}=1$ superconformal theories having a quiver description. The index of these theories is known in terms of unitary matrix integrals, which we calculate using the recently-developed technique of elliptic extension. This technique allows us to easily evaluate the integral as a sum over saddle points of an effective action in the limit where the rank of the gauge group is infinite. For a generic quiver theory under consideration, we find a special family of saddles whose effective action takes a universal form controlled by the anomaly coefficients of the theory. This family includes the known supersymmetric black hole solution in the holographically dual AdS$_5$ theories. We then analyze the index refined by turning on flavor chemical potentials. We show that, for a certain range of chemical potentials, the effective action again takes a universal cubic form that is controlled by the anomaly coefficients of the theory. We investigate the causes of the curious property of neutrino oscillations of looking as an interference between fully distinguishable particles. The sources of this effect are identified as to be determined by the many particle nature of space of states of the quantum field theory. It is firstly underlined that in order to explain the observed oscillations, the neutrino subspace of states should not be interpreted as the direct product of the three neutrinos Fock spaces, which is equivalent to imposing a superselection rule. Further, it is argued that the linear completion of such a direct product space of states permits to describe the measured oscillations. Thus, the space of states of te Standard Model (SM) should be interpreted as the linear completion of the direct product of all the Fock spaces (boson or fermions ones) associated to the distinguishable particles. Then, it follows that the neutrino oscillations are determined as interference between independent particles, which are generated by states being outside the direct product of the neutrino Fock spaces. This interpretation seems to imply a large amount of interference observations between distinguishable particles in Particle as well as in Condensed Matter Physics. We study the SIR epidemiological model, with a variable contagion rate, applied to the evolution of COVID19 in Cuba. It is highlighted that an increase in the predictive character depends on understanding the dynamics for the temporal evolution of the rate of contagion $\beta^*$. A semi-empirical model for this dynamics is formulated, where reaching $\beta^*\approx0$ due to isolation is achieved after the mean duration of the disease $\tau=1/\gamma$, in which the number of infected in the confined families has decreased. It is considered that $\beta^*(t)$ should have an abrupt decrease on the day of initiation of confinement and decrease until canceling at the end of the interval $\tau$. The analysis describes appropriately the infection curve for Germany. The model is applied to predict an infection curve for Cuba, which estimates a maximum number of infected as less than 2000 in the middle of May, depending on the rigor of the isolation. This is suggested by the ratio between the daily detected cases and the total. We consider the ratio between the observed and real infected cases (k) less than unity. The low value of k decreases the maximum obtained when $\beta^*-\gamma>0$. The observed evolution is independent of k in the linear region. The value of $\beta^*$ is also studied by time intervals, adjusting to the data of Cuba, Germany and South Korea. We compare the extrapolation of the evolution of Cuba with the contagion rate until 16.04.20 with that obtained by a strict quarantine at the end of April. This model with variable $\beta^*$ correctly describes the observed infected evolution curves. We emphasize that the desired maximum of the SIR infected curve is not the maximum standard with constant $\beta^*$, but one achieved due to quarantine when $\tilde R_0=\beta^*/\gamma<1$. The accurate springback prediction of dual phase (DP) steels has been reported as a major challenge. It was demonstrated that this was due to the lack of understanding of their nonlinear unloading behavior and especially the dependency of their unloading moduli on the plastic prestrain. A so-called compartmentalized finite element model was developed. In this model, each element was assigned a unique linear elastic J2 plastic behavior without hardening. The model's specificity lied in the fact that: (i) a statistical distribution was discretized in a deterministic way and used to assign yield stresses to structures called compartments; (ii) those compartments were randomly associated with the elements through a random compartment element mapping (CEM). Multiple CEM were simulated in parallel to investigate the intrinsic randomness of the model. The model was confronted with experimental data extracted from the literature and it was demonstrated that the model was able to reproduce the dependence of the apparent moduli on the tensile prestrain. It was also observed that the evolution of the apparent moduli was predicted even if it was not an explicit input of the experimental dataset used to identify the input parameters of the model. It was then deduced that the shape of the hardening and the dependancy of moduli on the prestrain were two manifestations of a single cause: the heterogeneous yield stress in DP steels., Comment: Accepted in Materials Today Communications

We find a family of complex saddle-points at large N of the matrix model for the superconformal index of SU(N) N=4 super Yang-Mills theory on $S^3 \times S^1$ with one chemical potential $\tau$. The saddle-point configurations are labelled by points $(m,n)$ on the lattice $\Lambda_\tau= \mathbb{Z} \tau +\mathbb{Z}$ with $\text{gcd}(m,n)=1$. The eigenvalues at a given saddle are uniformly distributed along a string winding $(m,n)$ times along the $(A,B)$ cycles of the torus $\mathbb{C}/\Lambda_\tau$. The action of the matrix model extended to the torus is closely related to the Bloch-Wigner elliptic dilogarithm, and the related Bloch formula allows us to calculate the action at the saddle-points in terms of real-analytic Eisenstein series. The actions of $(0,1)$ and $(1,0)$ agree with that of pure AdS$_5$ and the supersymmetric AdS$_5$ black hole, respectively. The black hole saddle dominates the canonical ensemble when $\tau$ is close to the origin, and there are new saddles that dominate when $\tau$ approaches rational points. We calculate the most general terms for arbitrary Lagrangians of twisted chiral superfields in 2D (2,2) supersymmetric theories [1]. The scalar and fermion kinetic terms and interactions are given explicitly. We define a set of twisted superspace coordinates, which allows to obtain Lagrangian terms for generic K\"ahler potential and generic twisted superpotential; this is done in analogy to the corresponding chiral superfields calculations [2]. As examples we obtain the Lagrangian of a single twisted superfield, i.e. the Abelian-dual of the gauged linear sigma model (GLSM) of a single chiral superfield, and the Lagrangian for the non-Abelian SU(2) dual of the $\mathbb{CP}^1$ GLSM model. Generic Lagrangians contain both twisted-chiral and chiral superfields, with distinct representations. We write down the kinetic terms for all bosons and fermions as well as their interactions for these generic cases. As twisted superfields play a central role for T-dualities and Mirror Symmetry in GLSMs, we expect the pedagogical exposition of this techniques to be useful in those studies., Comment: 24 pages, 2 appendices

Exploring the analogy between quantum mechanics and statistical mechanics we formulate an integrated version of the Quantropy functional [1]. With this prescription we compute the propagator associated to Boltzmann-Gibbs statistics in the semiclassical approximation as $K=F(T) \exp\left(i S_{cl}/\hbar\right)$. We determine also propagators associated to different non-additive statistics; those are the entropies depending only on the probability $S_{\pm}$ [2] and Tsallis entropy $S_q$ [3]. For $S_{\pm}$ we obtain a power series solution for the probability vs. the energy, which can be analytically continued to the complex plane, and employed to obtain the propagators. Our work is motivated by [4] where a modified q-Schr\"odinger equation is obtained; that provides the wave function for the free particle as a q-exponential. The modified q-propagator obtained with our method, leads to the same q-wave function for that case. The procedure presented in this work allows to calculate q-wave functions in problems with interactions; determining non-linear quantum implications of non-additive statistics. In a similar manner the corresponding generalized wave functions associated to $S_{\pm}$ can also be constructed. The corrections to the original propagator are explicitly determined in the case of a free particle and the harmonic oscillator for which the semi-classical approximation is exact., Comment: 9 pages, 9 figures, 1 appendix

We study a Type IIB isotropic toroidal compactification with non-geometric fluxes. Under the assumption of a hierarchy on the moduli, an effective scalar potential is constructed showing a runaway direction on the real part of the K\"ahler modulus while the rest of the moduli are stabilized. For the effective model to be consistent it is required that displacements in the field space are finite. Infinite distances in field space would imply a breakdown in the hierarchy assumption on the moduli. In this context, the Swampland Distance Conjecture is satisfied suggesting the possibility of leaving or entering the Swampland by a parametric control of the fluxes. This is achieved upon allowing the non-geometric fluxes to take fractional values. In the process we are able to compute the cut-off scale below which the theory is valid, completely depending on the flux configuration. We extend the Hanel and Thurner asymptotic analysis to both extensive and non-extensive entropies on the basis of a wide class of entropic forms. The procedure is known to be capable to classify multiple entropy measures in terms of their defining equivalence classes. Those are determined by a pair of scaling exponents taking into account a large number of microstates as for the thermodynamical limit. Yet, a generalisation to this formulation makes it possible to establish an entropic connection between Markovian and non-Markovian statistical systems through a set of fundamental entropies $S_{\pm}$, which have been studied in other contexts and exhibit, among their attributes, two interesting aspects: They behave as additive for a large number of degrees of freedom while they are substantially non-additive for a small number of them. Furthermore, an ample amount of special entropy measures, either additive or non-additive, are contained in such asymptotic classification. Under this scheme we analyse the equivalence classes of Tsallis, Sharma-Mittal and R\'enyi entropies and study their features in the thermodynamic limit as well as the correspondences among them., Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures

We show that the superconformal index of N=1 superconformal field theories in four dimensions has an asymptotic growth of states which is exponential in the charges. Our analysis holds in a Cardy-like limit of large charges, for which the index is dominated by small values of chemical potentials. In this limit we find the saddle points of the integral that defines the superconformal index using two different methods. One method, valid for finite N, is to first take the Cardy-like limit and then find the saddle points. The other method is to analyze the saddle points at large N and then take the Cardy-like limit. The result of both analyses is that the asymptotic growth of states of the superconformal index exactly agrees with the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of supersymmetric black holes in the dual AdS$_5$ theory.

We present a holographic derivation of the entropy of supersymmetric asymptotically AdS$_5$ black holes. We define a BPS limit of black hole thermodynamics by first focussing on a supersymmetric family of complexified solutions and then reaching extremality. We show that in this limit the black hole entropy is the Legendre transform of the on-shell gravitational action with respect to three chemical potentials subject to a constraint. This constraint follows from supersymmetry and regularity in the Euclidean bulk geometry. Further, we calculate, using localization, the exact partition function of the dual $\mathcal{N}=1$ SCFT on a twisted $S^1\times S^3$ with complexified chemical potentials obeying this constraint. This defines a generalization of the supersymmetric Casimir energy, whose Legendre transform at large $N$ exactly reproduces the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of the black hole., Comment: v4: minor changes, version published in JHEP

We provide a field theory interpretation of the attractor mechanism for asymptotically AdS$_4$ dyonic BPS black holes whose entropy is captured by the supersymmetric index of the twisted ABJM theory at Chern-Simons level one. We holographically compute the renormalized off-shell quantum effective action in the twisted ABJM theory as a function of the supersymmetric fermion masses and the arbitrary vacuum expectation values of the dimension one scalar bilinear operators and show that extremizing the effective action with respect to the vacuum expectation values of the dimension one scalar bilinears is equivalent to the attractor mechanism in the bulk. In fact, we show that the holographic quantum effective action coincides with the entropy functional and, therefore, its value at the extremum reproduces the black hole entropy., Comment: 34 pages; v2 minor corrections, references added; v3 acknowledgments added

Abelian T-duality in Gauged Linear Sigma Models (GLSM) forms the basis of the physical understanding of Mirror Symmetry as presented by Hori and Vafa. We consider an alternative formulation of Abelian T-duality on GLSM's as a gauging of a global $U(1)$ symmetry with the addition of appropriate Lagrange multipliers. For GLSMs with Abelian gauge groups and without superpotential we reproduce the dual models introduced by Hori and Vafa. We extend the construction to formulate non-Abelian T-duality on GLSMs with global non-Abelian symmetries. The equations of motion that lead to the dual model are obtained for a general group, they depend in general on semi-chiral superfields; for cases such as $SU(2)$ they depend on twisted chiral superfields. We solve the equations of motion for an $SU(2)$ gauged group with a choice of a particular Lie algebra direction of the vector superfield. This direction covers a non-Abelian sector that can be described by a family of Abelian dualities. The dual model Lagrangian depends on twisted chiral superfields and a twisted superpotential is generated. We explore some non-perturbative aspects by making an Ansatz for the instanton corrections in the dual theories. We verify that the effective potential for the $U(1)$ field strength in a fixed configuration on the original theory matches the one of the dual theory. Imposing restrictions on the vector superfield, more general non-Abelian dual models are obtained. The detection of gravity plays a fundamental role during the growth and evolution of plants. Although progress has been made in our understanding of the molecular, cellular and physical mechanisms involved in the gravity detection, a coherent scenario consistent with all the observations is still lacking. In this perspective paper we discuss recent experiments showing that the response to inclination of shoots is independent of the gravity intensity, meaning that the gravity sensor detects an inclination and not a force. This result questions some of the commonly accepted hypotheses and leads to propose a new "position sensor hypothesis". The implications of this new scenario are discussed in the light of different observations available in the literature.

We compute the topologically twisted index for general $\mathcal{N} = 2$ supersymmetric field theories on $\mathbb{H}_2\times S^1$. We also discuss asymptotically $AdS_4$ magnetically charged black holes with hyperbolic horizon, in four-dimensional $\mathcal{N} = 2$ gauged supergravity. With certain assumptions, put forward by Benini, Hristov and Zaffaroni, we find precise agreement between the black hole entropy and the topologically twisted index, for $ABJM$ theories., Comment: 39 pp + appendices, v2: references added, typos corrected

We revisit the issue of uplifting the potential to de Sitter (dS) vacua in type IIB flux compactifications of Kachru, Kallosh, Linde and Trivedi (KKLT). We shed light on some tension between two constraints on dS vacua in type IIB string theory. One is the well-known and much-discussed constraint which leads to the no-go theorem that can in principle be evaded. The other follows from 4-dimensional Einstein's equations, which has, however, been much less discussed in connection with the former constraint. In addition to the challenges previously posed, it is suggested that the uplifting scenarios, in particular, obstruct the evasion of the no-go theorem more strongly than one might have assumed., Comment: 15 pages

We explore the path integration -- upon the contour of hermitian (non-auxliary) field configurations -- of topologically twisted $\mathcal{N}=2$ Chern-Simons-matter theory (TTCSM) on $\mathbb{S}_2$ times a segment. In this way, we obtain the formula for the 3D topologically twisted index, first as a convolution of TTCSM on $\mathbb{S}_2$ times halves of $\mathbb{S}_1$, second as TTCSM on $\mathbb{S}_2$ times $\mathbb{S}_1$ -- with a puncture --, and third as TTCSM on $\mathbb{S}_2 \times \mathbb{S}_1$. We study the moduli space of type IIB string theory flux compactifications on the mirror of the CY quintic 3-fold in P4. We focus on the dynamics of the four dimensional moduli space, defined by the axio-dilaton {\tau} and the complex structure modulus z. The z-plane has critical points, the conifold, the orbifold and the large complex structure with non trivial monodromies. We find the solutions to the Picard-Fuchs equations obeyed by the periods of the CY in the full z-plane as a series expansion in z around the critical points to arbitrary order. This allows us to discard fake vacua, which appear as a result of keeping only the leading order term in the series expansions. Due to monodromies vacua are located at a given sheet in the z-plane. A dS vacuum appears for a set of fluxes. We revisit vacua with hierarchies among the 4D and 6D physical scales close to the conifold point and compare them with those found at leading order in [1, 2]. We explore slow-roll inflationary directions of the scalar potential by looking at regions where the multi-field slow-roll parameters {\epsilon} and {\eta} are smaller than one. The value of {\epsilon} depends strongly on the approximation of the periods and to achieve a stable value, several orders in the expansion are needed. We do not find realisations of single field axion monodromy inflation. Instead, we find that inflationary regions appear along linear combinations of the four real field directions and for certain configurations of fluxes., Comment: 50 pages, 14 figures

In this work, we first introduce a generalized von Neumann entropy that depends only on the density matrix. This is based on a previous proposal by one of us modifying the Shannon entropy by considering non-equilibrium systems on stationary states, and an entropy functional depending only on the probability. We propose a generalization of the replica trick and find that the resulting modified von Neumann entropy is precisely the previous mentioned entropy that was obtained by other assumptions. Then, we address the question whether alternative entanglement entropies can play a role in the gauge/gravity duality. Our focus are 2d CFT and their gravity duals. Our results show corrections to the von Neumann entropy $S_0$ that are larger than the usual $UV$ ones and also than the corrections to the length dependent $AdS_3$ entropy which result comparable to the $UV$ ones. The correction terms due to the new entropy would modify the Ryu-Takayanagi identification between the CFT and the gravitational $AdS_3$ entropies., Comment: 13 pages

A modified version of PQCD considered in previous works is investigated here in the case of retaining only the quark condensate. The Green functions generating functional is expressed in a form in which Dirac's delta functions are now absent from the free propagators. The new expansion implements the dimensional transmutation effect through a single interaction vertex in addition to the standard ones in mass less QCD. The new vertex suggests a way for constructing an alternative to the SM in which the mass and CKM matrices could be generated by the instability of masslesss QCD under the production of the top quark and other fermions condensates, in a kind of generalized Nambu Jona Lasinio mechanism. The results of a two loop evaluation of the vacuum energy indicate that the quark condensate is dynamically generated. However, the energy as a function of the condensate parameter is again unbounded from below in this approximation. Assuming the existence of a minimum of the vacuum energy at the experimental value of the top quark mass mq=173 GeV, we evaluate the two particle propagator in the quark anti-quark channel in zero order in the coupling and a ladder approximation in the condensate vertex. We study $N=2$ supersymmetric gauge theories on a large family of squashed 4-spheres preserving $SU(2)\times U(1)\subset SO(4)$ isometry and determine the conditions under which this background is supersymmetric. We then compute the partition function of the theories by using localization technique. The results indicate that for $N=2$ SUSY, including both vector-multiplets and hypermultiplets, the partition function is independent of the arbitrary squashing functions as well as of the other supergravity background fields., Comment: version to appear in Nuclear Physics B

In this note we address some issues of recent interest, related to the asymptotic symmetry algebra of higher spin black holes in $sl(3,\mathbb{R})\times sl(3,\mathbb{R})$ Chern Simons (CS) formulation. We compute the fixed time Dirac bracket algebra that acts on two different phase spaces. Both of these spaces contain black holes as zero modes. The result for one of these phase spaces is explicitly shown to be isomorphic to $W^{(2)}_3\times W^{(2)}_3$ in first order perturbations., Comment: improved presentation

We present a class of 3D Black Holes based on flat connections which are polynomials in the BTZ $hs(\lambda) \times hs(\lambda)$-valued connection. We solve analytically the fluctuation equations of matter in their background and find the spectrum of their Quasi Normal Modes. We analyze the bulk to boundary two-point functions. Integrality in the Hodge theory of Calabi-Yau fourfolds is essential to find the vacuum structure and the anomaly cancellation mechanism of four dimensional F-theory compactifications. We use the Griffiths-Frobenius geometry and homological mirror symmetry to fix the integral monodromy basis in the primitive horizontal subspace of Calabi-Yau fourfolds. The Gamma class and supersymmetric localization calculations in the 2d gauged linear sigma model on the hemisphere are used to check and extend this method. The result allows us to study the superpotential and the Weil-Petersson metric and an associated tt* structure over the full complex moduli space of compact fourfolds for the first time. We show that integral fluxes can drive the theory to N=1 supersymmetric vacua at orbifold points and argue that fluxes can be chosen that fix the complex moduli of F-theory compactifications at gauge enhancements including such with U(1) factors. Given the mechanism it is natural to start with the most generic complex structure families of elliptic Calabi-Yau 4-fold fibrations over a given base. We classify these families in toric ambient spaces and among them the ones with heterotic duals. The method also applies to the creating of matter and Yukawa structures in F-theory. We construct two SU(5) models in F-theory with a Yukawa point that have a point on the base with an $E_8$-type singularity on the fiber and explore their embeddings in the global models. The explicit resolution of the singularity introduce a higher dimensional fiber and leads to novel features., Comment: 150 pages

Second order Newton equations of motion for a radiating particle are presented. It is argued that the trajectories obeying them also satisfy the Abraham-Lorentz-Dirac (ALD) equations for general 3D motions in the non-relativistic and relativistic limits. The case of forces only depending of the proper time is here considered. For these properties to hold, it is sufficient that the external force to be infinitely smooth and that a series formed with its time derivatives converges. This series define in a special local way the effective forces entering the Newton equations. When the external force vanishes in an open vicinity of a given time, the effective one also becomes null. Thus, the proper solutions of the effective equations can not show runaway or pre-acceleration effects. The Newton equations are numerically solved for a pulsed force given by an analytic function along the proper time axis. The simultaneous satisfaction of the ALD equations is numerically checked. Further, a set of modified ALD equations for almost everywhere infinitely smooth forces, but including step like discontinuities in some points is also presented for the case of collinear motions. The form of the equations supports the statement argued in a previous work, about that the causal Lienard-Wiechert field solution surrounding a radiating particle, implies that the effective force on the particle should instantaneously vanish when the external force is retired. The modified ALD equations proposed in the previous work are here derived in a generalized way including the same effect also when a the force is instantly connected., Comment: 18 pages, 7 figures

Former results for a Tight-Binding (TB) model of CuO planes in La2CuO4 are reinterpreted here to underline their wider implications. It is noted that physical systems being appropriately described by the TB model can exhibit the main strongly correlated electron system (SCES) properties, when they are solved in the HF approximation, by also allowing crystal symmetry breaking effects and non-collinear spin orientations of the HF orbitals. It is argued how a simple 2D square lattice system of Coulomb interacting electrons can exhibit insulator gaps and pseudogap states, and quantum phase transitions as illustrated by the mentioned former works. A discussion is also presented here indicating the possibility of attaining room temperature superconductivity, by means of a surface coating with water molecules of cleaved planes of graphite, being orthogonal to its c-axis. The possibility that 2D arrays of quantum dots can give rise to the same effect is also proposed to consideration. The analysis also furnishes theoretical insight to solve the Mott-Slater debate, at least for the La2CuO4 and TMO band structures. The idea is to apply a properly non-collinear GW scheme to the electronic structure calculation of these materials. The fact is that the GW approach can be viewed as a HF procedure in which the screening polarization is also determined. This directly indicates the possibility of predicting the assumed dielectric constant in the previous works. Thus, the results seem to identify that the main correlation properties in these materials are determined by screening. Finally, the conclusions also seem to be of help for the description of the experimental observations of metal-insulator transitions and Mott properties in atoms trapped in planar photonic lattices., Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures

We study discrete R-symmetries, which appear in 4D low energy effective field theory derived from hetetoric orbifold models. We derive the R-symmetries directly from geometrical symmetries of orbifolds. In particular, we obtain the corresponding R-charges by requiring that the couplings be invariant under these symmetries. This allows for a more general treatment than the explicit computations of correlation functions made previously by the authors, including models with discrete Wilson lines, and orbifold symmetries beyond plane-by-plane rotational invariance. Surprisingly, for the cases covered by earlier explicit computations, the R-charges differ from the previous result.
